Nordic did a great job overall from the demolition and installation to project management and coordination. They emphasized their willingness to comeback at any time to address any issues or concerns we have. In addition, they followed-up on plumbing issues, inspection, and through the tub restoration process (we had existing, original tub re-glazed as part of the bathroom update). In fact, when a problem arose with the plumbing hardware (not the plumber's fault), Nordic was attentive and assisted in coordinating with the plumber and resolving the issue. We will use Nordic in the future and recommend them without reservation.
Description of Work: Nordic Tile removed our old, existing tile and rotting plaster wall area. After removal, Nordic Tile, at its suggestion, installed insulation around the shower and tub area. This proved to be an excellent suggestion (and one we had not considered) because we have a 1926 house, which has virtually no insulation. Nordic Tile then installed new cement board, which it waterproofed. And then Nordic Tile installed our new tile, and made helpful suggestions regarding finishing edges. These suggestions took into account the lack of straight edges and borders of our existing plaster walls. Nordic also coordinated with the plumber in preparing and installing the updated bath and shower fixtures and associated hardware.

These were some very, very nice people to work for. I have learned over the years that when problems arise (and they always do), its best to immediately bring it to the clients attention with a variety of solutions for them to choose from. Having the wrong plumbing valve put in is certainly a big snafu that wasn't my fault or the plumbers, but it was my job and I was happy to accept responsibility to get the job completed within the promised time frame. Its a good lesson for everybody to just stay cool and collected when problems arise, these people did and their demeanor should carry them very far in their professional and personal lives... Hey thanks for the nice review!

Andrew was very responsive via phone and email. The reason we chose him was the fact that he had worked with the tile we selected before. When he came and gave us our estimate he gave us confidence that he could get the job done in 2 sessions. One to set the tile, one to grout it. We also appreciated that he was willing to come on a Saturday. The first session went well, we laid out the deco strip were happy with the design. However, there was a lot more variability in the installation than we would have thought there would be.I realize that I am very detail oriented and small things bug me, but what I was told upfront and what I got were not the same. We can live with it, but I wish I had been more prepared for it. Unfortunately, this disconnect continued at the next session when I was disappointed in the amount of grout still on the tile and the fact that some of the more hidden work that was up against our cabinets was not done with the same amount of attention to detail as the other work. I understand that it isn't as obvious to everybody who stops by, but I see it and do think it's important to have everything done well. To Andrew's credit, he did come back for a third time then to take care of everything and ultimately we got good results.

I am kind of shocked to receive the grades that I did on this one. On my website is pictures of the clients backslash (within the view latest projects section) its the large white tile with the metallic stripe in between it. This job turned out really nice. The imperfections had to occur becuase the client installed things in the wrong order; the plumbing was installed prior to the backslash and the under cabinet lighting. This is understandable from a clients perspective because this is the first time this client went through the remodeling process. I did point out there were going to be places that I couldn't get perfect and she accepted that (in person and within my bid in writing). I think this client would of been happier had she delegated the entire project to a professional instead of saving money by acting as her own general contractor. The variations and imperfections that are very minor and not visible to most people occurred due to poor planning and poor material choice for the level of detail the client was trying to achieve. People need to realize that things within construction are done in a certain order. If you deviate from that your job won't turn out as nice and take longer. I made the most out of a difficult client to work for and mismanaged working conditions. I certainly don't want to work for these people again after reading their distorted review.

Project went well. Initially meet with Nordic tile for estimate and received counsel as well; i.e. types of tile, types of grout and vendors to contact for tiles. We had a fair idea of what we wanted, but Andrew suggested we visit a tile showroom. Good advice. Tile selection was more difficult than first thought. Once tile arrived Andrew came over, prepped the area, and adhered the tiles. He returned the next day to grout. We are very pleased. Our kitchen looks renewed. The work excellent. Our adult children love it. It has passed the critical test. We would use Nordic Tile in the future

These clients have been using me on and off for the last 5 years now. They're latest project was to tile a kitchen back splash with varying sized tile and decorative lineal pencil accent tile of a contrasting color. Because of detailed and numerous correspondence in the tile selection phase; the job really turned out nice (view the latest projects section of my website). The clients said the work "looked like it had been there forever" which I was pleased to hear because of the houses age of almost a century. I used a special type of grout which holds up to mold and mildew so that the work won't deteriorate over the next hundred years... Thank you for the work and great review!

We hired Andrew to complete a complete bath remodel. Andrew coordinated all aspects of the remodel from demolition of the old bath down to the studs, foundational repairs, ordering of supplies, coordinating of painting, plumbing and electrical. During the demolition, Andrew identified structural issues and recommended remediation to ensure that the floors and walls were level and structurally sound. We had a design in mind for the bathroom that we reviewed with Andrew prior to starting any of the tile work. Andrew had great suggestions that we had not thought of. Andrew called nightly to recap the progress made during that day, discuss the work he would be doing the following day and suggestions on how to improve upon our design. Andrews has a great sense of design and his suggestions really helped pull the multiple tiles and stones in our design together. His tile work throughout the bath was perfect; clean, level, straight lines and excellent transitions. We really appreciated Andrew’s daily calls, his attention to detail, openness, candor, sense of humor and flexibility in his schedule to accommodate delays in receiving supplies and working around plumbers, electricians and painters. We highly recommend Andrew.

We hired Andrew (Nordic Tile) based on our satisfaction with him on previous projects he has done for us. Andrew was very straightforward about costs. Demo was bid hourly, so we ended up getting half of our demo budget back because it took him less time. Work was completed on/under budget and on schedule. Andrew was able to work around the schedule of our countertop installation so that demo (of the old back splash) was completed immediately before countertop installation and tile was installed shortly afterward so we didn't have to live in a 'construction zone' for any longer than necessary. Andrew also spent most of his labor day holiday working on this project so we could have it finished as soon as possible. The new back splash is a huge improvement over what we had, so I am very happy with the results of this project.

These clients give me a job every couple of years. Each successive job gets higher in design from the last. This latest one involved a metallic and glass mosaic blend which worked really well with their absolute black granite counter top. Under my "view latest projects" section off my website you can see the results for yourself. Thanks for the great review! Can't wait to see what these client comes up with for the next project.

Working with Nordic Tile has been an all-around disastrous experience. We chose Andrew based on his seemingly good tiling knowledge and experience, as well as his great ratings on Angies List. Because he?s a multiple-time Super Service Award winner, we never, ever imagined how truly awful his workmanship would be. We now have to tear it all out and start over ? after spending nearly $5000 with Andrew. He set tiles on crooked walls without giving us the option to straighten the walls first; he set tiles crookedly all around the bathroom; he left piles of messy grout in corners and elsewhere and put so much grout around a river-rock shower floor that you can hardly see the rocks. Walls he constructed are bowed and not level and of course, the tile on them now looks awful. In the end, he left us with an embarrassment for a master bathroom that now needs to be gutted. We've had four different tile companies and an architect out to see the work and all agree it is substandard and that not much, if anything, is salvageable. There are photos that show examples of the poor-quality work (including ones where we have placed a level against his work, clearly pointing out unevenness and shoddy craftsmanship) in case anyone wants to see them, or in case Andrew cares to dispute our claims.

It is unfortunate when any client is not happy at the end of a job, but it is important to view the facts objectively. First, there are several photos of the member's bath project posted on the Nordic Tile website so that any interested person can look at the work for themselves (click on view latest projects tabs 1-3). They will see that it does not match the complaint description by the members. Secondly, it is true that a wall is out of square in their bath area, but this was specifically pointed out to them before tile was placed on the wall. The statement that they were not aware is false. The wall was an existing condition created by others before Nordic Tile’s work and the impact on the finished tile work is only visible on close inspection as Nordic tile was very careful not to accentuate the issue. Thirdly, Nordic Tile arranged for the client to actually watch and accept the grouting of the river rock in the shower in real time. Fourth, the tile is a natural cut stone product and the tiles are, therefore, not absolutely identical. All tiles were placed as level and evenly as the existing walls would permit and grouted evenly. I would again refer the reader to the photos on the Nordic Tile website. Finally, all tile is placed in real world conditions. The slightly out of square wall in the Palmer bath is a typical example. The construction industry, therefore, recognizes that small variations or “tolerances” are acceptable in finished work and are not considered to be defects requiring repair or replacement. I thought it might be difficult to get someone to do this project because it was a small job but Andrew came out quickly to price it and squeezed it in between larger projects a week or two after that. The floor looks great. I would highly recommend him.

Ya, I have no problem doing these small repairs as long as the clients are close in proximity to me, and they are reasonable to work for. When you're putting new tile up against old stuff you have to remember that the grout will never match perfectly, which the client in this case did. Very happy to help, thanks for the review.

I highly recommend Andrew and Nordic Tile. I recently installed a new minimalist modern, basement bathroom in my near-100 year old house. This basically consisted of a small room, with a glass block wall divider for the shower enclosure, and clean, white tile. Tile on the floor, tile in the shower pan, tile on the curb dividing the two, four-foot-high tile on all the walls, floor-to-ceiling tile in the shower, ceiling tile in the shower. I went with Nordic Tile after receiving estimates from them and from another highly-rated Angie’s List company. The Nordic Tile estimate was slightly higher actually, but it was clear from meeting with the two individuals, that if my priority was the best tile-job, I wanted Nordic. I was not wrong. Andrew did an excellent job preparing the surfaces and installing the tile on the vintage, irregular surfaces. He did an excellent job of meticulously pouring the shower pan, not only to meet Minneapolis’ tough code specification, but to be as absolutely water-tight and durable as possible, as well as provide a perfect slope to the drain. Those are the things you would hope to get when engaging a person to enhance your living space - skill in their trade, but Andrew’s greatest strengths went beyond that; communication, providing creative and problem-solving ideas when necessary, project plan flexibility, and continuously seeking feedback. If something wasn’t exactly right, Andrew wanted to know so he could make modifications, provide options or explain limitations. He also had a good awareness of time and priorities – my time and priorities that is: he always gave me a long enough period to process the options or inspect the progress before getting back to him with the answer. He was always available and always ready to answer questions. If you are looking for excellent tile-work, while working with a skilled communicator, you want Nordic Tile. I would definitely hire him again and recommend him to anyone. I would hire him again if his cost was higher than the competition.

The key to this jobs success was maintaining good communication throughout. Client was very clear about expectations from the outset. I then alloted the appropriate amount of time to complete the project. We worked alongside a great glassblock contractor who also greatly contributed to the success of this project (his company should be dog eared under clients other reviews). Client also listened closely to some of my suggestions and used allot of them. When small change orders came up, I was very willing to adjust things and cut the client breaks along the way because of the way I was treated. I am glad to hear client is so satisfied with the results. They were a really nice family to work for, and am lucky to have been able to work for many good people this year. Thanks!

I absolutely love our new bathroom! I know my selection(s) was not the easiest to work with but Andrew made it work! We used tile and mosaic glass, so extra finishing was needed. I now have a brand new shower. I have more space and now have built in wall cubbies, which we didn't have before the renovation. Andrew made sure I was happy with the work every step of the way. Nordic Tile went above and beyond our expectations. The tile and mosaic glass is absolutely stunning. We are going to have him come back out and retile our fire place too!

These clients were very pleasant to work for. This was their first bath remodel project and didn't know what to expect. But because of the expertise of my tile vendor helping them select tile and plumbing fixtures and our tile installation, things went very smoothly. I particularly liked the clients tile selection which was a bit edgy, the bathroom feels like you're in a rain forest of sorts... Thanks for the work and nice review. Look forward to the next project.

All of this work was done for FAR less than many other contractors and in a span of a couple of weeks from start to finish. Andrew was in contact with me on a a constant basis making sure all the steps in the construction were to my approval, and that they passed the City of St. Louis Park's permitting process. The previous owners had done an incredibly sub-standard job re-modeling the bathroom, and extensive re-working was required. Andrew discovered this immediately and did a great job at keeping costs at a minimum and getting the job done in the estimated time-frame. The finished product looks fantastic and is about 100 times better than the condition of the shower beforehand.

Andrew was able to fit my job into his schedule very quickly, and got the job done within the schedule he said he would. When the job was finished, we asked him to come back for some last minute clean-up, which he willingly did right away, even after the bill had been paid in full. It's obvious he values his reputation, and is dedicated to customer service. We will consider him for our next tile job, a bathroom remodel.
Description of Work: Andrew did a very nice job on our front entry, half bath, and laundry room floor. This was a pattern installation with above average complexity, and it turned out great! He was very help full and even helped with a couple odd jobs that were not part of the original estimate. He charged a fair price for the "over and above" work, and coordinated the plumber needed to complete the job.

Everything clicked together pretty well on this one. Clients made it very easy for us to work for them. As things came up like the walls being out of square affecting tile layout, and leaving us with some undesirable cuts around the perimeter, the client was very willing to listen to my advice and respond. We came up with a solution together which involved me doing a little extra carpentry work at the end of the job. I was glad to help out. Thanks for the work and the great working environment!

He was very responsive to our needs and questions and offered several ideas that improved the project. Changes to the final price from the original bid were all clear to understand and mostly minor tweaks - the final cost was actually a little less than the original bid. The shower and floor wound up looking great and after observing the process throughout, I am confident that the tile job is very sound. There were some unusual features to the shower and he devised some approaches and executed them well. Andrew showed up when he said he would and focused on our project until it was done. There were no real glitches. Price was not cheap, but the quality of the prep. work (waterproofing, wall and floor leveling, etc), tile work, and overall service was in line with the price.

These members were great to work for. Great communication led to a spectacular result. I utilized some of the mosaic tiles used within the shower pan as a decorative accent within clients shower walls to spruce things up. Client's tile ceiling was a challenge to tile, a trapezoid in shape. but I used a variety of tile and edging materials to pull it off also tieing in with the rest of the bathroom aesthetics. Yes, prep work was extensive on this job, walls weren't plumb or flush, floor wasn't anywhere close to being level, but with slight added expense, client was very satisfied with the resulting work. Good lesson for home owners: if your prep work isn't done right, your tile will look goofy, and probably won't last because shortcuts can result in all kinds of water issues affecting the adhesion used on your tile. There's a huge difference in a guy giving you a $12 sq. ft. charge. to one coming in a half the price. Thanks for the work!

The leaking shower pan became apparent when doing work in an adjacent room and some water staining was found in the subfloor. When bidding the project, Andrew gave a clear description of the work required. He also gave allowances for what may be required depending how much damage had been done by the leak to wood supporting the shower. He cleaned up some of the moisture damaged wood underneath the shower before installing a proper masonry shower pan with membrane and tile that would tie in with the old walls of the shower. When he started the job he was very good about communicating what/when he was doing and kept me well informed of any changes that may need to be made. Because the original work on the shower had been done so poorly, there were a lot of work around needed to get shower pan completed to fit the rest of the existing shower and reassemble the shower walls/door. He made sure I was happy with how everything came back together and took extra time deal with some issues that came up.

This member originally had the most poorly constructed showerpan we have ran across in over a decade of doing business. We stripped 3 layers of tile off, and had to rework the framing underneath the showerpan which was entirely black from mold. Client was very nice to work for, we gave him a grout upgrade free of charge because of his disposition. A good lesson for members is to ask specific questions about your contractor to get a feel for their skill level. We have come across allot of handymen who claim proficient knowledge of tile. As I tell people "you spend a little bit more, and get a lot more." This member will never have to replace his showerpan again within our lifetimes...

Andrew met with us originally and gave us an estimate. It was nice to meet directly with the person that was doing the installation. I selected him because I had a strong sense that he knew what he was doing. Andrew was very professional. He arrived exactly when he said he would and kept on the schedule he predicted. His tile installation was very well done. We asked him to do a diagonal pinwheel pattern and he did it perfectly. The floor is level and the grout lines are even. Andrew was very respectful and nice to deal with. The mudroom and laundry turned out beautifully. I would strongly recommend Andrew. I will definitely give him a call for my next project.

This member was great to work for. Great communication and interaction throughout created a very nice result. The space was a tricky dimension to work with. A U shaped mudroom and a walkthrough to a laundry room. No matter how I laid the tile in a straight pattern, I was left with undesirable cuts around the perimeter. My solution was to lay the tile in a 45 degree pinwheel pattern, the member agreed and the floor turned out great! Because of the clients proximity to a local lake, I recommended that she install a waterproofing/antifracture membrane on top of her concrete to seal off any water that could seep in. Thanks for the work, glad to help!

It went well. When I returned from vacation, the job was complete. They had to come back out to fix one thing, which they did in a timely fashion, and I'm quite pleased with the result.
Description of Work: I hired Nordic Tile I to repair a shower that had been leaking into the floor below since I had it installed by a different contractor years ago. Nordic came in, identified the problem, and fixed it. We arranged it so that they had a key to my house while I was out of the country for vacation, and they completed the job while I was away. They removed the lower 12" of wall tile, removed the shower pan and liner, then rebuilt it, retiled the lower 12" of wall tile, and fixed a couple other things.

The member was a great guy to work for. He was upfront and consistent with his craftsmanship expectations, decisive about tile selection and was very reasonable and even tempured when a small problem with the shower door arose. I was the highest bid for this job by a small amount, and the member expressed to me his gratitude in using me after we discovered the shotty craftsmanship found in the prior showerpan construction. People need to realize that although a showerpan may look good, its structure is what matters most. This was the member's 3rd attempt within 7 years. My work will last forever.

The member's job was pretty demanding when it came to quality expectactions. I think the reason the member was so happy with the result was because he was upfront with me in his craftsmanship demands, and we worked in conjunction on serveral aspects of choosing tile layout, the shade of the tile, grout color and sealer. When people listen to my advice and are honest with me all the way through the job, things turn out great! I expect the member and I will to have many more successful projects in the years to come. Andrew: Thank you for coming to our rescue! We had a started a bathroom remodeling project and experienced several problems with the poor workmanship and professionalism of our first contractor, JGF Remodeling. We were very impressed when you arrived with your level and immediately identified the issues that needed attention. You provided a fair estimate to complete the work and fix the problems, including: • removing and relaying wall tiles that were not flush • measuring and correcting wall tile height to be in sync with existing walls • removing and reinstalling decorative tiles to align the pattern properly • correcting crooked grout lines • fixing the drain opening We appreciate your perfectionism and professionalism. Andrew Forsmark, with Nordic Tile, did an outstanding job with my master bathroom tiling project! From the very beginning of the project, Andrew was very friendly and his communication was outstanding. He worked with me on establishing a unique custom tile pattern for my floor and other areas of my bathroom. Andrew is a tile setter and a designer all in one! Andrew did give a higher bid for my project, but after seeing how much work Andrew put into my creative tile install, it was well worth the added expense. Andrew was also very accommodating in regards to changing his tile schedule around my cabinets and windows being installed. At the end of the project, I called Andrew to come back out and touch up a few areas I felt were in need of more grout. Andrew responded immediately to my concern and made a trip out to my house to fill in these areas. Nordic Tile is an honest business that will give you a fair price and outstanding customer service. I would highly recommend Nordic Tile to anyone looking for an excellent tile setter.
Description of Work: I had a master bathroom completely re-tiled. This tiling included the following: Shower pan and shower walls with caddies, tub surround, flooring with heat, and partial walls. Decorative tile pieces were also precision cut and added within the tile project.

The job wasn't something that Nordic Tile does, but in spite of that, Andrew gave suggestions on ways to accomplish the job. He also emailed me later with further information. He really loves tile, I would use him in the future!

Generally did OK, but the more custom the work was the less well he did. For example, floor was not properly prepared resulting in a small bump in the finished floor, and the grout was not fully cleaned off even after being called back to get it done.
Description of Work: Did a variety of tile projects.
