We were very excited to begin work on remodeling our master bath. Andrew was very easy to work with and very good at returning our calls. We were very disappointed when he backed out of the project at the last minute. We had originally contacted him over a month ago and were ready to begin. Now we need to find someone new.

We noticed that when Andrew completed the floor in the guest bathroom that some of the tiles were sticking up and that the treshhold was uneven. We requested those be corrected and Andrew's helper took care of the problem. When Andrew was doing the demolition of the fiberglass shower in the Master Bathroom he hit a waterline which resulted in water running for approximately 4 minutes. The water damage resulted to $5,600.00 damage to our Kitchen ceiling and walls. We were thankful that Andrew had insurance that covered the damage, but it resulted in more than an six week delay in our bathroom remodel and the added hassle and mess of hiring someone to repair the damage to our kitchen. Update 4/18/2014: The response from Andrew to my review is disappointing. He indicated that he thought I had shut off the water, but he had not asked me if I had turned it off, so I am not sure how he could have thought it was turned off. Andrew also indicated that the plumbing was unusual and not up to code, which is not the case. The plumbing was original to the home and it was inspected when it was done during the construction of the home. The most frustrating part of this ordeal to me was that when Andrew cut the water line, he had already removed half of the shower stall and the water line was visible that he cut. After this ordeal, we did not have Andrew do the tiling of our master bathroom. I hired another tile contractor to do the actual tile work.
Description of Work: We hired Andrew to tile the floor in our Guest bathroom and to remove a fiberglass shower and tile around our whirlpool bath, then install a tile shower, plus wainscoting of tile behind the toilet and around the whirlpool in our Mater bathroom

Yes, we were completely at fault for accidentally rupturing the waterline. I thought the home owner left the water off after he finished plumbing in some connections moments before I started my work. The water line in question was not visible behind the fiberglass wall and as it turned out was placed outside the stud cavity which would never would have passed a plumbing inspection. After the incident occurred we took immediate steps making a claim with our insurance company, staying in close contact our insurance rep to make sure things were processed quickly to ensure the home owner was paid for the damages within 8 days of occurrence. We apologized profusely at the time of the incident and don’t feel very fairly treated by the client after 5 months of the event occurring. Should people take further interest in this accident we will have documented pictures on our website at http://www.nordictile.com/disputes

Andrew did an awsome job! The floor looks fantastic and it completely changes the look of the house. The job took about a week to complete. I was unable to be at home while the work was being done so Andrew called me each day with updates. He offered great suggestions from whrere to shop for tile to how to arrange it on the floor. My wife and I were so happy we found him.

We are very pleased to hear this clients response to our work. This client made things very easy for us to work in their house by allowing us to setup our tools close to the work, and by keeping the family dog at bay for most of the work days. My helper and I installed a porcelain tile at an offset 45 degree angle that completely transformed the look of the first floor from the previous "new home" tile. Thanks for the nice review, look forward to the next one!

We were very happy with Andrew's work. The pattern chosen for the tile work looks great. Andrew suggested using a metallic finish on the edges of the tile to save money on the special bullnose tile pieces, and that also looks great, complementing the modern style of our home. Both he and his partner Lou (a semi-retired gentleman who supervised the tile work on the new Twins stadium) were very knowledgeable and paid attention to detail, carefully tilting the shelves on the shower caddies, on the capstones immediately under the frameless shower doors, and in the showers themselves so that water would run toward the new Kohler drains like its supposed to.
Description of Work: We had Andrew remodel two baths for us. He ripped out a shower/tub combination in one bathroom to make a new big shower stall with porcelain, glass, and travertine tile and large, frameless glass doors. He also redid the upstairs shower using similar materials and installed travertine tile throughout both bathrooms. His plumber installed new Toto toilets and Hansgrohe raindance shower pipes.

Andrew is 100% professional, and the work he did looks wonderful! The tile is arranged so that it flows beautifully, like a piece of art. Andrew explained that is why it is so critical to NOT buy tile at a mass-market, big box store. When all the tiling was done, I completely understood what he was talking about; each and every tile is unique and therefore, the placement of the tile is critical. That's why a professional is important. I very much appreciated the outstanding communication. He kept me informed every step of the way with phone calls and emails. I felt like my job was important to him even though I knew he was also busy with other jobs. I also appreciated his patience while it took me so long to choose the tile! It was also great that I was able to tell him what I wanted, for example I didn't want any decorative accents, and he didn't add in his two cents like other contractors that I interviewed. He respected what I wanted, and didn't try to change my mind. This was my first remodel job, and I was anxious that the final amount would be higher than the bid, however, it wasn't! What a relief. And last but not least, I was comfortable with Andrew in my home. As a single female living alone, this was a concern for me that maybe most other customers don't have. I interviewed others who weren't as professional, and it was a pleasure to work with Andrew.

Andrew is very skilled, and is a joy to work with. Here are his strengths; communicates well, often and on time. He is heads-and-shoulders better on client communication than other contractors with whom we have worked; helped a lot with preliminary shower design as we made decisions about what we wanted; He offered sound advice, and honored our decisions once made; and managed other contractors well, including the plumbers for the shower piping, drain and fixtures. He also is a genuine character, comfortable in his own skin. And was very friendly to the occasional neighbor who wandered in to see his work. We have hired and managed many contractors. We recommend Andrew whole-heartedly.
Description of Work: Andrew Forsmark of Nordic Tile helped design build and tile a walk-in shower for us in our condo in a totally new unfinished shower space. Andrew was great to deal with from first contact. During the process, he was excellent at giving us daily calls to let us know how the process was going. When minor things came up, Andrew was great at giving us options on various directions that we could go. Overall, the remodel took about 3 weeks. I would highly recommend Andrew and Nordic Tile to anyone who needs tile work.
Description of Work: Andrew completed a total remodel of our main floor bathroom, including the demolition, installation of all new tile (including floor tile), installing a new shower caddy in the shower wall, and the installation of various hooks, a shelf, and the medicine cabinet. He helped tremendously in coordinating all other necessary parties, such as the plumber, electrician for the new ceiling vent/light fixture , and tub re-finisher. I've attached pictures of the before, one of the demo, and the after.

We were attempting to do this project ourselves, and found that our basement floor was very uneven and after THREE attempts of self-leveling cement to get the floor ready to tile, we decided to call in the professionals. And thankfully we did! Andrew came over the same day I called to look at our space, and then within a day or 2 provided us with a reasonable estimate for both the floor tiling/leveling and tub surround. He truly saved our bathroom -- we were afraid that our floor was beyond repair from what we did to it! when Andrew came out to provide an estimate, our main focus was the floor -- but we asked him to estimate the tub surround at the same time, in hopes we could afford to have him do that too. His estimate was very reasonable, and he worked with us on sourcing the tile and grout. So we had him do that too ? and then last minute we also asked him to tile a small closet. Both my husband and I try to be a good judge of character when using contractors, they need to be personable and friendly ? in addition to fair and reasonable with their estimate. Andrew were all those things. We would recommend him, and plan to use him again for our next tiling project.

I would not use him again. I'm sure he is a good field tile installer, just not a craftsman.
Description of Work: Andrew installed a submarine tile backsplash and mosaic glass tile in the wall behind our stove. For the glass mosaic tile he used quick-setting thinset which set immediately so that he was unable to adjust the tile on the wall. This resulted in an amateurish-looking job where you can see where the sheets start and stop. The submarine tile could have used a little finesse with regard to getting everything to at least look level. When asked about it he got belligerent and made excuse after excuse finally offering to pack up and move on because we the type of people who would never be happy with it. In the end we got the tile in, but it is a job where you hope no one looks to closely at it.

We are sorry to hear of this client mediocre experience with us. This review does serve as a good example as to why it's important to consult with us before purchasing tile. This client and her husband are penny wise, pound foolish. They decided they wanted to save a few bucks by buying clearance tile and hobbled together a bunch of different stuff to come up with a backsplash. I didn't know that this was 2nd hand stuff until starting the job. We always finish what we start and tried to make things look as decent as they could get. If pointing out that a glass mosiac sheet is missing half the tile it was supposed to have adhered to it is an excuse, then I was making excuse after excuse. I took pictures of this job and will post them within my dispute section http://www.nordictile.com/disputes On my website you will also find backsplash after backsplash of some stunning work.

The 2nd floor shower was leaking and it was sprinkling in the bedroom below. We love the vintage tile in our bathroom and it was in great shape and our main priority was finding someone who could remove and replace the shower without damaging the wall and step through tile. We had one person tell us they couldn't do the job and are two other bids were very close in price. Andrew seemed the most confident in his ability to to save the tile. The tile work was all done by Andrew and his assistant. Our plumber came in to do the plumbing and Andrew had a subcontractor do the door. The jackhammer they had to use to remove caused some grout to crack and a leaky radiator. Both of which were likely unavoidable and Andrew took full responsibility of repair. The new shower looks great and blends in seamlessly with the old tile in the rest of the bathroom, which was completely saved. I think they were there about 3 weeks. While doing the work they made it a priority to minimize the mess and inconvenience. They were good with the kids and we liked having them around. Honestly really nice guys and a fantastic job! Thank you!

Andrew and his helper did an outstanding job replacing our shower. They were both very professional, efficient, and gave great detail to their work. Andrew spent time with us discussing various tiling options. His experience really helped us decide what type of tile and how to tie in the color of the new shower with an existing tile floor (which we didn?t replace). He was always on time, and completed the work on schedule. The finished work is a beautiful new shower that will last for many years. I highly recommend Nordic Tile for anyone who needs tile work A+++++.

Andrew from Nordic Tile was fantastic to work with. He was incredibly flexible with scheduling - both my husband & I work full time so he was willing to pop over in the evenings or weekend to show us the progress he was making and make sure we were satisfied with the work. He was also great at keeping us informed on what he got done, what his plan was & when he thought he would be done with the job- which has not been my experience with all contractors... We recently bought a 100+ year old house, so needless to say, the floors/walls are nowhere near level. Andrew was up for the challenge. He leveled the floors by hand (amazing difference from what they were previously) and laid the tile in the mudroom/bathroom. He was a great consultant to us along the way in tile/grout & pattern selection. We liked him so much, we had him come back to install our backsplash in our kitchen. While he was a little higher priced than other contractors we bid out, you definitely pay for what you get - he was a true professional. We would call Andrew back in a heartbeat for our next job.

We had a great experience with Andrew from Nordic Tile. He is very professional and great to work with. This was our first time using Andrew and he did a wonderful job. We came in to tile a nice traditional 3 by 6 "subway" tile back splash using a grout color that blended nicely with the countertop. Did some repair work from previous installers while we were out. We really enjoyed getting to know the client and her family. The clients 7 year old daughter is way ahead of her time. We had some pretty good laughs when she asked me "is your Iphone a 5th generation?" Hey thanks for the great review!

Andrew first came over to the house to provide an estimate for tiling the kitchen backsplash. I still hadn't decide which tile I would use but Andrew was okay with that and provided some good suggestions about the options. He was able to fit me in his schedule quickly and spent 1 1/2 days to tile and then half day to finish with the grout. Backsplash looks great and Andrew was great to work with, providing attention to detail that makes all the difference.

This client had a great sense of design. We went back and forth a little bit with tile selection, but the wait was worth it. A contemporary sized tile with a stacked layout blends with all the colors of the cabinets, coutertop, and appliances. Metal edging was used to hide exposed areas of the tile. Client was very pleased with results. Looks for pictures off our website in the "kitchen" section. Thanks for the great review!

We knew working with these clients would be great from start to finish. They scheduled us to come in behind cabinet installers and were well versed in remodeling. We showed up exactly when scheduled, kept the job moving along ahead of pace. Our recommendations of installing a porcelain tile with a high wear grout were incorporated into a very functional mudroom, laundry, and half bath area. Andrew worked well with our schedule to come to our house on a Saturday in order to measure and provide a quote. During that visit, Andrew explained the potential work and answered all of our questions. When we were ready to begin the work, he was able to fit us onto his schedule quickly and provided a very detailed timeline to help us plan arrangements during the construction. Andrew and his helper planned out every detail along the way so that they were both on the same page during the work. Demo went smoothly and quickly, and the team did a nice job of cleaning up after demo. All prep work (floor repair and backerboard install) was exceptional. Andrew kept us updated on progress, and there were zero surprises along the way. Unfortunately, we didn't decide on a floor tile layout pattern until the work began. The pattern was very intricate, leaving us all questioning whether we had enough floor tile. The team did a great job resolving that unfortunate problem (made wider spaces between some tiles and changing the pattern in out-of-view areas (under the fridge and closets) so that we had enough floor tile to finish the job. The backsplash also looks fantastic- just a little uneven where it ends, but, it is only noticeable to a perfectionist's eye. The floor and backsplash look amazing! I would recommend Nordic Tile, and I would use them for future projects, too.

Andrew was easy to work with throughout the process. He was punctual and responsive to all questions and concerns, and has a great sense of humor on top of it all. He did exactly what he said he was going to do in the time frame that we expected. He coordinated the work with the plumber, so that we didn't have to. All we had to do was pick out the tile and the fixtures! We had a minor plumbing issue after the work was completed, but Andrew worked with the plumber to get it resolved. Our overall experience with Andrew was great. We're happy with the end result- and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Nordic Tile.

The shower is currently all tile, but needs to be redone because the previous home owners apparently tried to repair certain parts (but did a pretty bad job) so we wanted to simply re-do the whole thing. Andrew arrived at the scheduled time and gave us some suggestions about what he could do regarding installing a new shower pan liner under the floor and matching the tile to the current tile. When we mentioned that we were concerned about our constantly leaking (but brand new) showerhead, he suggested that we perhaps should try another showerhead. When we said (again) that it was brand new, he said that maybe a pipe behind the wall had a leak that was causing the water to continually drip. We must have looked confused because then he said that he wasn't a plumber so he didn't know too much about it, but he does have a plumber that he works with that would probably be able to diagnose and/or repair it for us. We thought that would be great because then we would have a plumber and a remodeler that were used to working together. He left and said he'd send an estimate within a couple of days. That was nearly a month ago now. I don't mind if he didn't think he could do the job, but then please don't say an estimate will be forthcoming if there is no intention at all to send it or do the job. Edited to Add: We didn't expect him to spend hours there, far from it. The plumber never contacted me and the cost was never even discussed. This provider's response is completely not factual.

We are shocked and dismayed to have received this report after a month, maybe longer, of doing an initial free assessment. We got called in to give a quote for a leaking shower pan. We determined that more than just tile work may be the cause of their leak. We recommended that they contact a plumber to determine the exact source of the leak before proceeding. If tile wasn't the cause I wouldn't waste their time and money on an unnecessary fix. This client never contacted me beyond that point (this was more than a month ago). This is a very busy time of the year for me personally (in moving to a new house) and professionally as people get ready for the holidays. I lost track of this client (both mentally and physically by losing their bid notations in the move), and for that I am at fault. I do think their rating is harsh and very biased . They obviously feel wronged and for that I am sorry, but they could have simply called me after a week of not hearing from me I would of been glad to reconnect. I will post on my website www.nordictile.com/disputes to counteract any of their further claims of how I initially corresponded with them in this matter which contradicts this clients initial assertions.

Process went great overall. The project lasted a few days -- Andrew provided frequent status and gave me suggestions/ideas along the way. He was always aware of cost and would let me know if the price would fluctuate either way and left the decision to me (which I appreciated). Overall, a great experience and Andrew did very nice work.

We were approached by the client to come in and give a face lift to his aging classic south Minneapolis bathroom. The clients goals were to update the rental unit with a lasting, low maintenance product for successive renters. We came up with a solution of installing a ceramic product with a high tech grout. Other contractors wanted to redesign the kitchen sink, and lost out on the work. Thanks to the great communication with the client and having the right people in there for plumbing, the job came in on time and on budget. Renters moved in right behind us, and the clients were very happy. Thanks for the nice review!

The work was completed on time, and the clean up at the end of the job was great! I thought we would have to come through and wipe surfaces etc but he left it in "ready to go" condition. Thanks Andrew, you can be assured we will use you and highly recommend you to all who ask!

We had Nordic Tile owner Andrew Forsmark out to our house for to bid on an unfinished basement bathroom tile job. He was punctual and courteous, his bid was detailed, and he was able to accommodate our construction schedule, so we hired him to complete the work. As a fairly meticulous person who has some construction experience, I found Andrew had a good sense for tile layout lines, maintaining even tile gaps, and keeping everything level. He did a great job leveling the floor, building the shower pan and curb, and squaring up the shower surround with the adjacent walls. Andrew also had some good suggestions for using Granite as shower shelves, as a shower curb, and as the door threshold. The contrasting style to our marble made for a good accent. Overall, Andrew is a calm and personable fellow who seems to enjoy his work. I would definitely hire him again for our next tile project.
Description of Work: Basement bathroom tiling, including shower pan, shower surround, and wainscoting.

My people and I had a nice time working for this couple. Their house on the South side of Lake Harriet was really kept up nice and we knew they expected a high level of craftsmanship. We had great coordination receiving architectural print outs of exactly how the clients wanted the tile to turn out. The tile we installed was a Italian Marble in a beige tone called Fiorito. There was little margin for error tiling everything within a 1/16" of an inch grout joint. Everything timed out really nicely. We incorporated a solid granite slab for the curb top and integrated the same granite for some nice beefy shampoo shelves. The warm earthy hues of the stone complements the craftsman style used throughout the house. The finish product is something you'd see in a Minnesota Monthly article at significantly lower costs... Pictures of this project can be found in the 2012 project section off our main website. Thank you for the flattering review and we look forward to the next project!

I would not recommend this company to anybody. We received three estimates total and decided to go with Nordic. Andrew brought in his crew of electricians, painters, etc, and Andrew did the tiling himself. Because the first painting job was done so poorly, another painter had to come in to re-do the painting. Initially, the taping underneath the paint was done poorly. This had to be re-done, along with the painting, so there was a smooth appearance. They did this all on their own, and they didn't charge us any extra for this additional work. Also, the grouting on the tile was left very inconsistent. My husband had to scrape excess grout in both bathrooms. We did bring this up to Andrew, and he did come out to fix a small portion of it, but we had to take care of the rest ourselves. We even had to clean the tile too, since he didn’t even wipe off the tile once he did the work. There was a lot of work that was left incorrectly done. I wouldn’t use this company again.
Description of Work: We had two bathrooms remodeled, which included stripping them down to the studs. The floor, shower, tub, one stool, and both vanities were removed. Both bathrooms had a moisture problem that needed to be fixed.

When getting a bad report its important to assess the job objectively. We have documented pictures on our website at http://www.nordictile.com/disputes for everyone to see our work first hand. The description of our work certainly doesn't match the pictures. We got paid in full and the client parted with us on good terms at time of completion. We fully acknowledge that the first painter had craftsmanship issues that we addressed immediately and at great expense to our profit. The issues with the grout are unfounded. I personally addressed every "problem" grout area in real time with the client (refer to web pictures). All the professionals involved after hearing of this report had the same response, utter shock and disbelief. What I think prompted this misleading report is that throughout the job the client continually tried to get additional work outside of the scope of the agreed project. Hang this mirror, toilet paper holder, towel bar etc. etc. I am glad to help out with small things that don't take very long but they began to take advantage of my good will. I put an end to the "favors" and expressed to them that I felt taken advantage of. Clients attempt to take advantage of me and my people all the time and I just don't stand for it. If that means a bad review once every six months then fine. All the clients assertions of bad work just doesn't add up when compared to the pictures of the actual job and the consistency of all my reviews before and after this took place. Although we are not happy to receive this report we are thankful for all of the work generated from the before and after pictures of this clients job (on our website), and take comfort in knowing all the clients who do appreciate our craftsmanship. I think it is off, but he doesn’t think it is off. The pieces on the right and left don’t have the same size hypotenuse so it isn’t centered. I was disappointed that I picked him when he didn’t do the work. The assistant redid the work the owner did. It was okay but I just wasn’t thrilled.
Description of Work: I picked him because he said he did the work. The most important step about tile when it is on point is putting in the first few pieces of tile; he was not there for that.

We are baffled and shocked to receive this report especially after such a long period of time. We certainly remember doing this job last spring because the clients were extremely difficult to work with on a professional basis being indecisive and communicating poorly throughout the construction process. Much of the clients description of the work performed is inaccurate. The area we were asked to tile was a rectangular entrance way just inside her front door. She fails to disclose that prior to tile being installed she had new hard wood floors put in around the perimeter of this rectangular area. These hardwood floors matched her existing walls which were slightly out of square (thus the hardwood floor edge meeting tile is out of square). I know I was there the entire time with vivid memory because we found the center point of the rectangular space, walked the tile out to each of the four edges and discovered that indeed the wood floor guys mucked up their install affecting ours. She didn't want to believe my tape measure (her wood floors were installed out of square by a 1/4" within 8 feet) and I asked her if she wanted to hold off and let the wood floors guys fix their stuff. She declined in realization that her tile could only be cut to the out of square wood floors and thus the cuts would slightly vary. Just envision being asked to tile a trapezoid: no surface we were asked to tile off of was square so getting our cuts to within a 1/16" of an inch was a feat onto its self. We looked into her other reports on companies and you can decide for yourself if you would like to be in a position to please this client. We are always upfront, fair, and honest with people. Which is why she asked us to tile her first floor bathroom on the way out after completing the entrance way. She didn't disclose that either.
