I had been putting off getting our ceilings fixed, until suddenly it was a week away from a planned trip out of town, an ideal time to have the house torn up. Kurt was able to come out the day after I called him for an estimate, and start the following week, as I was hoping he could. His estimate came in about the same as a plaster company I had give me an estimate, but also included painting, which was important to us. He was friendly and professional in our initial meeting, as well as phone conversations we had during the process. During the project, he called with questions about my preference on how to handle an issue that arose, which I appreciated. The finished work looks beautiful! He was able to match the look of the spray texture in the adjoining room perfectly. The smooth surfaces look brand new. When it comes to clean up, I found a teeny tiny pile of plaster dust in one little corner, which, to me, is a pretty great job of cleaning up, considering the amount of dust that was created. I am considering hiring out more painting work and will definitely work with NewDay LLC again if I decide to.

Kurt did the initial estimate. I got three estimates and Kurt's estimate was the one in the middle. During the estimate he walked through the townhouse with me and we discussed each room. Kurt described how he works, approximately how long the total job would take, and what the estimate would include. We discussed different options for the accent wall color and also the colors in the closets. One closet was between the accent wall and the main color -- so that closet has one side to match the accent wall and the other side to match the main color and it really looks great. Rather than give me an estimate on-the-spot, Kurt took notes and later that day sent me an email detailing the work that would be done and the associated costs. The estimate included an antimicrobial additive to the paint for the kitchen and bathrooms and 2 coats in all rooms. The estimate was broken down by room. Most of the townhouse was one main color and there was one accent wall up the stairwell. Two colors were used for the bathrooms and the closets and shelves were painted to match the rooms or adjacent wall except for one closet that was white. The repairs included some minor ceiling repairs, but not repainting the ceilings. I got regular emails as the work progressed and Kurt responded quickly to emails or phone calls from me. Great job!

It has been very good experience. He is on time and very thorough. He is very careful and does an excellent job. He does little extras that you don't even ask for, such as small wall repairs that he comes across. He is also very reasonably priced.

I can't really say enough good things about Kurt. We had just bought a house in Minneapolis and were still living in DC and we wanted some work done to it before we moved in since we were moving with a baby. I hired Kurt for a huge job and he ended up doing that and so much more and mostly by himself. I hired him to do two things, first was to paint the entire interior of the house (about 2000 square feet) which included painting all of the walls, windows, trim, doors, ceilings, etc. The second was to do something with the ridiculous texture that was on the walls in the stairwell going up stairs (including the very high ceiling), two bedrooms and the entire hallway upstairs. There was a thick plastered texture with a high gloss paint on it. No one had ever seen walls like this (I had other painters walk in and walk out of the house saying that they would not deal with this), and even Kurt thought that the best thing to do would be to sand it down a little bit and then apply a knockdown texture. However, knowing that we would accept that but really wanted smooth walls, Kurt did a lot of research and found sandpaper designed for sanding floors and creatively used that with a sander he bought for this job and managed to find a way to smooth the walls. It took a few days of holding the sander up to the walls an ceilings and just sanding for days and even hired one other person to assist. It was a tremendous job and I don't anyone else could have done it. It was only because of Kurt's determination, patience and strength that he was able to accomplish it (and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out). In addition to the painting and sanding, he fixing numerous problems with walls, fixed trim, removed wallpaper and panels, re-plastered, added sheetrock and drywall, and repaired some problems with the cement board on the exterior. Not only did he do this, but he did this without supervision. I was out in DC while most of this happeniing so we had most of our communication through the phone, email and text. He would call me with updates, send pictures over SMS, and call with any questions. In addition, he facilitated all of the other work that had to be done (coordinating with a handyman, flooring company and window company) and really acted as our unofficial contractor. To sum it up, Kurt is detail-oriented, an extremely hard and diligent worker, a great and precise painter, and most of all an honest person who sincerely wants to do an amazing job and satisfy every customer. He worked evenings and weekends to get the job done for us so it would be ready by the time we moved in. I have already hired him to paint some offices in my office suite and plan on hiring with every painting need I have in the future. I would recommend him without reservation.

We orginally obtained "New Day's" information from Angie's List and called for an estimate. Kurt came out within 48 hours and we chose him because he was able to fit us in his already busy schedule during the 2011 Holiday season and his thoroughness convinced us he was particular about the outcome of his work. He finished the painting of our remodeled kitchen and hearth room in the agreed upon time. He had to repair two door going to the outside that looked like they should be replaced. The final outcome was awesome; the doors look new! He is a good listen for our needs and offered useful advise which we followed, such as not replacing the doors. The experience was seamless, no glitches whatsoever, and we plan on calling him for our entryway in the next few months.

I was quite pleased with Kurt's professionalism and cheerful attitude. The project went great and I was very pleased with the final results and comprehensive cleanup.

I called Kurt after seeing so many great reviews on Angie's list, especially regarding great plaster work. We have a 1935 home that just had all the plumbing replaced, resulting in many large holes cut in several walls and ceilings; we wanted someone who could restore the walls to their original condition. Kurt was a good listener and seemed very knowledgeable so we had him do an estimate. The price was fair for the work to be done so we decided to go with New Day. Chris Thompson did the plaster work. He spent about a week working, being careful, considerate and cleaning up each day before he left. Chris' work is meticulous, beautiful and seamless. It's now impossible to see where the holes were, even when you are looking for them. Both Kurt and Chris painted and working together, they were able to do all the painting in one day. We had our living room painted a medium grey and we have white trim. Kurt did a wonderful job of edging and painting and the room looks great! I would definitely recommend working with New Day, Kurt and Chris! We are very happy with our finished home.

We were going to sell our house & we hoped to do this work as inexpensively as possible. We explained this to Kurt. He came to give us an estimate the following day. He presented us with his estimate on the spot. He explained that he thought that he could do the repairs without spraying the whole ceiling. That resulted in saving us about half of the other estimates. He also said that he need not paint all of the walls, just some of them, and that it would look fine. He did a wonderful job on the ceiling. One would never know that there had been cracks. The walls that were painted matched the other walls perfectly. He ended up painting a few more places than were in our contract because he thought it would look nicer. He wouldn't take extra money for this. The whole house looked and felt so new and fresh. He and his associate were very prompt each day. They cleaned up at the end of each day, and put everything back in place. It was a pleasure to have them in our home. I trusted him completely and felt free to give him a key so I could go to work early. He was very kind to our little dog and even put her out when she needed to go without me asking him to do so. I appreciated all the extras that he did. The job was completed ahead of schedule. The house looked beautiful and sold in 5 days. I definitely will recommend him to all my friends.

I found NEWDAY on Angie’s List and I called for an estimate. Kurt and his associate arrived on time and thoroughly assessed what was needed to be done. The job included removing a large area of textured ceiling due to water damage, putting in a new textured ceiling, painting two large rooms, and painting a metal front door and interior railing. I received an email with his estimate within a few days and also was thanked for my interest. Both Kurt and his associate were extremely nice and very professional. Of the three quotes I had gotten, I was the most impressed with Kurt. After making my decision to have Kurt do the work, I shared my color choices, agreed on a start date, signed a contract, and paid my down payment. Again, Kurt was professional and I continued to be very happy I had selected him to do my painting. When that date arrived, Kurt and his associate were at my house on time and were prepared to begin their work. They sealed off the rooms that were to have new texture on the ceilings by encasing them in plastic to minimize debris going to other parts of the house. They were very neat and respectful of the large furniture that could not be removed from their work space. Kurt and his associate had all the proper tools to do the texturing and the end result was a new, once again perfectly textured ceiling. After removing the plastic bubble encasing the rooms, they vacuumed and dusted any small amounts of remaining debris. Kurt and his associate then began preparing the walls in the two rooms to be painted. They spackled nail holes, smoothed out areas where there had been a wallcovering border, and filled in any other imperfections. They professionally taped off the areas to be painted. The walls turned out beautifully. They were very neat and precise in their work leaving clean edges all around. They replaced all the outlet covers and vent covers when they were done. The metal railing around my stairs and my front door needed to be repainted in oil based paint which is very challenging. Kurt and his associate tackled the work head on. They had to remove the oak hand rail and the front door hardware. The front door was painted two different colors front and back which ended up being amazing. The door took more coats of paint then what was expected but Kurt and his associate were very patient while trying to get the best results. In the end, there were many small details they did, like writing on all the paint cans indicating which rooms they were used in, saving me the time of doing that later. I was extremely happy with the end results of all Kurt and his associate’s work. They were always upbeat, cheerful, and willing to do what it took to make the job their best. They did everything they could to make sure that I was very happy with their work. They were very neat with all aspects of the job and I felt comfortable leaving them in my house when I could not be there. They were punctual, professional, and went beyond the expected!

I first met Kurt a year ago, after purchasing a new home. We solicited multiple bids to paint the first two floors of the house, and Kurt was my top choice, but I went with another provider under pressure from the designer I had hired to pick paint colors; she felt her crew would be faster, but in fact they ran two weeks over schedule. I have regretted that decision ever since! When it came time to have the basement and guest room painted, Kurt at New Day was my first call. New Day also repainted our large living room where a bay window was replaced due to leaking. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Gone are the unpatched nail holes, wavy lines between rich wall color and white trim, and streaky paint on the walls and ceiling. Instead, I have a beautiful, crisp, smooth walls that look practically new, and trim that pops, with nary a wavy line in sight! Kurt and his crew were a delight to work with, providing a detailed estimate for my large job, willing to negotiate with me when I decided not to paint a wall of cupboard doors, and overall going above and beyond the call of duty at every turn. They were friendly with my children, willing to work around some other contractors that I had in the rooms they were painting, and most of all, quick to get the job done. They cleaned up their work area thoroughly every evening, and were clear about the timing and schedule of the job. We communicated via phone and email, and Kurt was patient with me when I wasn't able to get back to him right away. Finally, there was a small area of the basement ceiling where the coat of paint did not cover as well and a small bit of the old (also white) ceiling color was showing through the coat of paint. When I called, Kurt returned very promptly to redo that section, bringing it up to the high quality of the rest of the job. I should add that we had agreed to one coat of paint on the ceiling, and even though this section turned out to need two coats, Kurt did not charge me additional money. I am thrilled to find a quality painter who understands that the finished project looks best when the prep work is done right. Thank you, Kurt and New Day!

We received an estimate from Kurt on Wednesday and he was able to start the work on Thursday. He was very professional and thorough throughout the process. He even ran a drop-cloth from the front door to the room that was being painted. Kurt caulked, repaired the walls, primed, and painted the first coat on Thursday and finished the trim and second coat on Friday. The room looks great and I think is now better insulated as well. Highly recommended.

Kurt was wonderful to work with! He called and kept in touch prior to doing the work via phone and e-mail. Once a date wa set, he appeared on time and ready to work. Great care was taken in preparing the work areas to minimize sanding dust and protect surfaces. He is a master at plastering and repairing cracks and wall imperfections so spent a lot of time on those prior to painting. he works efficiently and professionally and completed the project over two days. When a particuallary difficult stairwell didn't turn out to his/our satisfaction, he returned and repainted those walls, insisting that we be toatally satidfied. Kurt has a winning personality, cares about his work and his customers, and is extremely skilled and experienced at what he does. I look forward to having him back again.

Kurt and Dave made a good team. They were both polite, nice and professional and did a wonderful job. We couldn't be happier. The wallpaper had extra glue making it harder to remove. They cleaned the walls, primed them with oil paint and applied two coats of my chosen color. It looks great now. They cleand up everything very well too.

Kurt was punctual, and took time to understand what we were looking for. We left him a key and felt very safe that he would take care of things during the day. He is meticulous in his detail work and very clean. He got the job took 2 days which was very sooner than expected and at the end of each day we hardly knew he had been in the here except for the beautiful work he did. The power washing made the house look as if it was freshly painted. I would highly recommend Kurt.

Every detail of the work was discussed with this vendor. He was very articulate in explaining the process as the work was progressing. Questions were always answered and possible alternatives were discussed as the work was being done. His knowledgeable input was most helpful in making decisions. This vendor is honest as well as a great communicator. He takes pride in his work and we feel that he is most interested in his customer being pleased with the results of his work.

We had Kurt come over and give an estimate and he was very detailed about everything he saw on the walls and what exactly would need to be done. He was right on time and answered any questions I had as we talked. I decided to go with him and wanted him to paint when we were out of town. He came over and helped with colors before we left. He was very patient and made great suggestions as he has been in the business a long time so was very helpful. He used a lock box and were very diligent about using it when coming and going to make sure my house was safe. I liked the fact that there was not a big crew I did not know coming into my house. When we came home just about everything was done so it worked out perfectly...and everything looks great!

Kurt was referred to us by his brother, Allen. Allen is The Grout Doctor. We will use both again. Very good experience! and VERY fair price!

Kurt promptly visited to give us an estimate and was careful and thorough in analyzing the project. He provided us with a detailed and reasonable estimate and we were confident that he would have done quality work for us. We did go with another contractor, but it was a close decison and we would call Kurt again.

Super! In painting our kitchen Kurt first skim coated the walls, sanded/prepped backsplash area (it was not in great shape since we ripped the old backsplash off) and then painted our kitchen. We had some tricky areas to prep prior to painting (such as covering old outlets) which Kurt did flawlessly. He was very detailed and picky about his work and it shows in the final results. My husband and I are very busy so it was great to know we had someone with Kurt's expertise and professionalism to count on --- the job was done right, on time/budget! Thank you Kurt!

Miracle worker!! Our wall near our back entrance had quite a big crack in it due to my husband's tenacious attempt to insulate the area with "The Great Stuff". My husband stopped the cold air from coming in with the extra insulation; however, it expanded and caused the wall to crack. We definitely needed an expert to help us out. Kurt was certainly the answer to our situation --- he repaired the wall flawlessly and offered us expert advice regarding the pros/cons of different repair approaches, etc. After Kurt was done with the plaster repair, you couldn't even tell there was a crack there to begin with. He did an excellent job, was knowledgeable, polite & very neat/orderly in his work (our house was in tact even after the repair project). Kurt also gave us a couple of ideas regarding our kitchen remodel --- just offering some additional advice, which was completely unrelated to the plaster repair job but evidence of Kurt going above and beyond to help his customers. We would definitely consult with Kurt and use his services again!

Kurt and David did a fantastic job in our house. They did a wonderful job painting, trim looks great, repairs are perfect, deck looks great -- couldn't be happier with the work they provided. Their quality is second to none and they were great with our 2 year old daughter as well. I would recommend them to anyone looking to paint their home.

The project went very well. Kurt worked around our schedule and was able to come when it was convenient for us. The patched ceiling looks great - very seamless. He cleaned up well after the work was done.

Overall it went very well. Kurt is a perfectionist and holds himself to a high standard. He communicated well about when he would be here and about his timeline. He is polite and professional. We have used him before and will use him again.

Extremely well. Kurt and Dave were highly professional, pleasant to work with, prompt, courteous, and flexible (when it turned out that what was required was something different from the original plan). I wanted to have some old wallpaper removed from my dining room walls so that I could paint them. It turned out that what was underneath wasn't "paintable", and that new drywall needed to be laid over the old walls. Kurt and Dave were able to devise a new plan that turned out very well, and I am extremely pleased with the results. I felt confident trusting both of them to work without me there, and happily gave them my key code to get in the house. I would most definitely hire them again in the future.

Went very well. In fact, we were out of town for part of it and came home to a perfectly clean house, which means they did an excellent job in cleaning up after themselves. They did a great job!!
