Put a request on Angie’s list on Saturday morning. Dave called & came out Saturday afternoon (in the rain). He gave me a quote. By Thursday morning, railings were installed. His work is beautiful & perfect. Very happy to have Dave do this job.

Had a vertical metal mirror that I ordered from Amazon that I wanted to mount horizontal. Sent out some requests for a welders through Angie's list and by the next morning Dave reached out. That night I had the mirror in his shop and the mounts perfectly re-positioned. Quality of service was great and price was very reasonable. I was anxious to get my new mirror up so I appreciate the prompt followup and immediate service. Recommended!

Dave and I played a bit of phone tag to get to the time when we could meet and quote. There were many designs I liked from his collection but I finally narrowed it down to one. He broke out the bit of fancy-ness so I could compare with a more bare bones look. I chose the fancier one. I had a written quote from another firm who didn't meet with me personally but the reviews of Shegstad sold me on this firm. He had them installed within a week and they are beautiful.

Dave never oversold or interferred with my initial idea. When we ran onto a unusual design issue he asked me to come to his shop and showed me options to resolve what could have been a problem. His patience and understanding was remarkable. He was always concerned that from initial design to final installation it looked exactly as I had imagined. I would recommend him to the most fastidious customer. He won't disappoint.

They made a design in the gate using a piece of ironwork that I had. The pattern was not exact, but similar, and blended very well. The gate was made and installed with great skill. It fits in the doorway perfectly, along with it's latch, and has held up with no problems for the 5 years since it was made. I ordered it in November, and it was made and installed within a couple of weeks. Dave was very friendly and easy to work with. I highly recommend this company.

Project went very well. Dave responded quickly, and was determined to do install by requested date, but bad weather prevented that. That was not a problem for us. He provided solid recommendations for our requirements. Was very responsive, letting us know what his plans were. Project was completed quickly and professionally. Based on our one time experience with this provider, we definitely would use Dave again and recommend him to others.

It could not have gone better. It seems now days so many things become complicated. Not so with Dave Shegstad, we did everything over the phone and did not meet Dave until he came to install the railing. He asked what we were looking for in the railing and I told him to use his best judgment and he hit a homerun. The railing looks great and all went so well. Dave contacted me after I had submitted a job via Angie's List SnapFix. He e-mailed me in the evening saying that he was going to call me the next morning on a Saturday. Promptly around 8 a.m., he called me. He came right out within a half hour to come look and give an estimate for the job. I took a couple days to decide. While another contractor had given me a ballpark estimate which was a little less than his, they hadn't returned my calls, so I decided to go with Dave. I called him on Monday to let him know. The other contractor called me that afternoon to schedule an estimate, but I told him that I already went with someone else earlier that morning. I think it was like 2-3 days later, Dave called to say that the hand railings were ready and he'd come by within the hour to install them. I really think it was like only 2 days. I was so surprised as his speediness. He hit a snafu while installing the railings, but he was able to work through it. He also helped me with painting some metal flashing that I had in front of my door. Overall, I was very pleased and it was such a relief to work with somebody who was eager to do the work and did it well and promptly. I really appreciate the ease, and multiple people have complimented on how beautiful the hand railings look!

Dave came out right away to measure the steps and provide a bid. I had selected a design from among the handrails shown on their web site. He built the handrails and installed them in less than two weeks. He was pleasant and responsive. Several people have told us how beautiful they look. More importantly, they allow me to come in and out of the house safely. We asked Dave to make them consistent with ADA and he did a great job. Beautiful and safe! We could not be more pleased.

It went well. We were concerned about getting the railings replaced before the first frost since family and friends coming by to visit needed those railings. They were able to schedule with us within a week of the break and had the railings replaced in a few hours. The new railings have gotten through the winter and look like they'll be with us for years to come.

I took the pieces that I needed to be attached together to Shegstad & Sons shop in Southeast Minneapolis. After describing what I needed, Dave designed a method for making exactly the custom lamp post base I needed. He was able to do this while I waited, was very accommodating and explained what he was doing during the process. I would definitely recommend him for any kind of custom metal work.

We had wanted to add a patio gate for years, after buying a house with a fully enclosed patio. I had had difficulty finding a contractor willing to do a small project, but Mr. Shegstad promptly responded to my email contact and said that he could do it. He and his colleague were punctual when they arrived to do the work and did the work in a fairly short period of time. The new gate looks as if it's always been there and we now have access to our back yard from the patio - no more climbing over the railing. They did a great job and we would hire them again for any fence or gate needs.

Twice in about 12 months, in spite of our security system, had two attempted burglaries. Each time it has been a rear window broken with an object, causing damage, expense, and time to clean up. We also know our house has been "cased" quite often so we finally decided to get bars on our windows. Dave came out the same day we called, and provided an extensive portfolio of his work. There were so many options to make the bars decorative...he does some lovely stuff! He was very patient with me and my husband, showing us different ideas along the vein of what we each liked, and giving us an idea of prices. We at first chose only 5 windows to be done, three on the first floor and two on the second, but we changed our mind a couple days later and decided to do 6 lower level windows. Dave came out the next day and measured those windows, and was again very patient with us having changed our minds. He and his son came out the day they promised, at the time they gave, and installed the bars quickly and efficiently. Also, I spoke with Cindy to put the purchase on our credit card, and she was just lovely. Bonus is that is is a small, local business right in our neighborhood. Dave does all kinds of iron work, and I'd defintely contact him again if I wanted anything ornamental like flower boxes, etc.

I like NC Shegstad & Sons' work. he was very nice and pretty much did exactly what they said they were going to do. They did a great job. I liked the design but I think they actually ordered it. I like that they were on time. I wasn't thrilled with the price.

Explained the challenges in installing railings in stone (vs cement), i.e., possibility of cracking the stone. I had seen this in neighbor's railings, also on stone steps. Work was very carefully done and came out just fine. Price was right. Work was done one day faster than originally estimated.

WoW! Dave came over immediately-and waited, as I was late from a Doctor's visit. He took time to explain his product, costs, time, and upkeep.He brought picture-books so I could visualize the end result. He called a week later to report he was ready to install. We arranged a time, and he installed everything in a matter of hours. He drilled 5 holes for each post-these stairs are going no where ever. He made such everyone knew the drying time (only an hour!) He cleaned up immaculately. The result: Unique, hand-crafted Master Artisan Art Nouveau railings that are of the highest quality installed quickly with the barest minimum of fuss. Seriously minimum upkeep. Utter gentleman and Professional. Clearly he needs an advertizing agent to get the word out to the Historic Restorer Community. He has perfect examples of Victorian, Craftman, Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired, Art Deco, and Standard cost conscious styles that will fit in everywhere. Come see my house and see if you're not impressed. I'm going to see if he'll do an arched, gated, garden entry to match in the spring-he says no problem! This is the guy you've been looking for. Angie needs to do a special yearly book on True Local Master Artisan Craftmen, No chains need apply.

Dave and his daughters did the work in amazing time - they were friendly but all business and really seemed to enjoy their work. The finished product was an elegant Spanish look. The arbor was SPECTACULAR! It now shelters a large hosta, English rose bush, rhododendron, and an astilbe plant along with a metal fountain. It is the focal point of the back yard. Dave took pictures of it for his "brag book". I am so glad I called them; I had wanted to do this improvement for years and I sure picked the right people to do the job. It's not cheap, but well worth the price. They have my absolute endorsement. Merrilee Hagberg
