Monarch Painting

A great experience start to finish. First bit of awesomeness - Got the bid in early spring in attempts to have them finish painting before the garden started growing. Unfortunately they were booked but were willing to provide a bid and put me on first priority late summer/early fall so minimal damage would be done to the plants. Other bidders were not willing to do that. Second bit of awesomeness -Shane, the person who provided the bid, gave an amount right on site. Other bidders looked at the house and emailed a bid a couple of days later. Third bit of awesomeness -Shane, who provided the bid and ensured minimal damage to the plants, was one of the guys who actually did the work. The group of four guys showed up on time, were courteous and kind, introduced themselves to my dogs (so they wouldn't be barked at all day), and, as a single woman, I felt safe with them being around. They also laughed a lot while working - they liked their job and enjoyed working together. Fourth bit of awesomeness -My handyman came to do some work for me this spring and it was the first time he saw my house after it was painted. He was so impressed with the job Monarch did he asked for their number in hopes of hiring them to paint his house.

Following the replacement of the bevel wood siding on part of our home Shane worked with us to have the existing siding scraped and the entire home (siding and trim) painted. Some of the existing paint contained lead and the team did a great job of covering the ground and cleaning up after the job of scraping was complete. Shane was very easy to work with and the final product looks great.

I am pleased with both jobs. They were great at moving things to get around them to paint, and then put things back when they were done. They were fine working around the two indoor cats. On both the inside and outside jobs, there were things I thought about needing to add to the job after Shane had given his estimate. The last minute additions caused Shane no problem, and he just added them in. After he painted the outside foundation rocks with the highlight paint color I chose, I realized the color was awful. Shane was able to make some paint suggestions that would work better, and came back and redid that part of the job. It looks much better with Shane's suggested color. I found Shane's prices to be very competitive and his group's work good, and the group easy to work with. I have recommended them to several friends.

I thought they did a wonderful job. They were kind and flexible. They kept hours that let me still have a life. They were clean and tidy. They were A-1 in my experience. The price quote was less than other company's price quotes. I would recommend them to others and I would use them again.

It went great. We found the company on Angie's List. After taking a few bids from other companies, I felt that Shane would be the easiest to work with. He isn't too pushy, nor did he try to oversell. He was able to start the job earlier because of some flexibility in his schedule. That worked well for us since we were trying to get the job done before winter. Shane and his crew began the work on time. Shane helped to get the paint colors matched to the ones we liked and had used previously. Then the work began. The crew scraped, cleaned, painted until the work was done. They cleaned after themselves each day. Shawn replaced many of the broken windows that we had before painting. He and his crew also helped me to adjust a few windows that were not sitting correctly in there slots. What can I say? Shane was very professional and even-tempered. The bid and actual cost were nearly identical. They finished the work when they said they would. Any questions or concerns were addressed. This is the crew you want! Personable and trustworthy. Now, the duplex looks fantastic.

I had first contacted Monarch Painting back in June 2011. We had a bit of miscommunication on the first appointment (it was on me- I had written a confusing email where I thought I had confirmed the time, but Shane was still waiting), but once we got that straightened out, the estimate was efficient yet thorough. We talked through everything we wanted done, and he made suggestions about our different options- helpful and not pushy. He was able to give our estimate on the spot, which was a pleasant surprise. We had taken one other bid a couple of years ago, and this bid was way more reasonable. Because of the weather (lots of rain in June), I knew their schedule was going to be backed up, so I told him that we were flexible as long as we were finished sometime this painting season. We checked in every couple of weeks, and he was able to fit us in before Labor Day, and a week earlier than planned after one of his previously scheduled jobs got delayed. The work that his crew did was meticulous- I was ready to deal with a lot of paint drip and scraped paint chips, but after they were done, I found only 2 drops of paint total (on leaves of a couple of plants)- pretty amazing considering all of the crazy angles of our old house. An added bonus was that they fixed a rotted siding board on our garage and painted our exterior stair railings with no delay (and charged us only nominally for it- outside of our original estimate). He called me once just to confirm that we had the right exterior color (we had experimented with a couple of shades on the side of the garage, and he was scared for a second that he had the wrong color- he was right all along). The workmanship was excellent- the edging between the trim and siding was clean, everything was well coated and even, and they didn't miss anything. Shane and his crew were unfailingly polite and so unobtrusive, we barely knew they were there. They always packed up their gear every night, and everything was stashed away to the point where we could still grill and eat on our back patio. As a former theater tech, I was very impressed at how well they managed their gear. Another plus was that they took great care with our landscaping and plants- none of them were visibly damaged, which is remarkable given how many perennials we have. They were able to power through our job in 5 business days, and we couldn't be happier with the results. I originally contacted them because of their high service rating on Angie's List, plus they were local and seemed to know how to paint old houses (ours was built in 1910). I highly recommend them, and especially if you have an older house in St. Paul or Minneapolis, I don't see how you could do better.

We requested a bid from Shane having had used them several years ago for an interior project (our living room.) Because we were happy with how that turned out we felt confident they could do a good job with our house. They were responsive in getting us a bid and were prices were competitive. We had one other bid that was pretty close (and from another painter we had used in the past) so we made the decision on a gut feeling. Shane was positive, honest and easy going from start to finish. He kept in contact throughout the process and wisely encouraged us to paint the entire house. (we thought of skipping the garage). They were very neat and we hardly knew they were around since the painting mostly took place during the daytime when we weren't home. Shane and his crew were meticulous with taping and making sure every detail was taken care of. Our expectations were exceeded--especially, knowing the age and condition our duplex. The labor costs came in exactly where Shane said it would. The bid wasn't very detailed, but I trusted him and he kept to his word. In the end, he was able to complete the porches and garage all while staying within the original budget. The only thing that went over budget was the actual cost of the paint, but not by more than a few hundred dollars. The finished result looks fantastic! We loved working Shane/ Monarch Painting.

It looks wonderful! They kept me informed about the schedule, which was pushed back due to all the rain. They arrived when they said they would, painted and then cleaned up. Their bid was the lowest bid I received--great deal for such good work!

Shane was a delight to work with. his communication was terrific and the job he did on our home and our deck was outstanding. So much so that i have already scheduled him for 3 years from now to touch up the deck. Would highly recommend

I wanted to paint just 2 sides of my house - the 2 "bad" sides with the peeling paint - in preparation for possibly putting the house on the market. Shane didn't blink an eye at my unusual request. His bid was the lowest of the 3 I got. They started the work when they said they would, and finished in a really reasonable timeframe. My house is an unusual purpley color, which I had tried pretty unsuccessfully to match over the years for painting the garage and an addition on the house. As a result, I had a couple of different shades going on. Shane discussed this with me, and got my input on which of the shades I wanted. Even the desirable shade had been weathered with time, so I knew it wouldn't be an easy task to get it right. When I came home after the first day of painting, I saw that he had completely hit the mark: the color was perfect. When I saw how great it looked, I immediately knew I had to get the whole house painted. I talked to Shane, he gave me an estimate for the whole house, and was able to add that to his schedule and get the whole house painted without interruption. My house looks FANTASTIC! Shane and his crew are really friendly, down-to-earth, easy-going guys, and very professional, respectful and meticulous at the same time. I couldn't ask for better results. On this old house, and with 2 different trim colors, there is a lot of detail to pay attention to, and these guys got everything spot on. I'm really happy with such beautiful results for a very reasonable price. I also want to mention that the guys were really sweet about making sure my dog stayed in the yard while they were working (closing all the gates behind them), and taking care with the gardens. Shane and his crew are a very considerate and talented group of people that I will definitely hire again next time I have a painting job.

Shane was great to work with and his team did a wonderful job. We started getting bids back in December and he was very competitive. We told him that we were not in a rush and he was patient with us and when we finally decided to pull trigger he was very accommodating. His bid was right in the middle, but far lower than the high bid and the quality of work was great. Shane and his team were easy to work with, very laid back but very courteous and professional. All in all, the job that he did was great and we will certainly use them again for additional rooms if the need arises.

Shane did an excellent job with the work and we were very pleased with the outcome. We solicited bids from 3 people and his was the most competitive and we would definitely use him again.

Both my husband and I are busy people, Shane came to take a look at the job and gave bid while I was at work. His bid came very close to the actual final price and compared to 4 other companies, his was the most attractive overall. He also tried to work around our schedule knowing that we would like to have the job done pretty quickly. His crew was prompt and clean up well after each night when they finished. Most of our communication was done over the telephone or email since I mentioned that my husband and I are busy people. The final inspection day, there was an area missed and Shane took care of it. In the end everything worked out to our budget, timing and liking. We will consider hiring him again in the future if the bid competitive.

Both jobs were very professional. They show up and worked when expected. Great communication and finished quickly. Great work! I have recommended their services to many others who have been pleased as well.

Shane and his painters did a great job on my house. Communication was very good. In addition to painting the body and trim of the house, he replaced some cedar shingle siding,nailed loose clapboards, filled woodpecker holes, added special treatments to rust problem areas of nails and window box. He painted the screen door and insert window. He even came back shortly after finishing to cover a new carpenter repair. All this was done for his original estimate. The house looks great. I feel I got a lot of value for the money.

I called the week before to get a bid, and Shane gave me an approximate bid over the phone ($260). I called the following Monday to book him, and he said they were booking out over a month away but he would try to get us in sooner since it was a small job. He called back on Thursday and said they could come the following day. An assistant did most of the work, and Shane came later. Both were courteous and professional. They did a very nice job. There was quite a bit of taping around baseboards, crown moulding and cabinets, and they were very careful. It cost a little more than the bid because a third coat was required, since we were painting yellow with a no-VOC paint over a darker beige-green color. It looks beautiful, and the price was very reasonable. The employee showed up a little late in the morning - about 45 minutes late or so. But it was not a problem and they were still done in one day.

Shane was professional, punctual and did a fantastic job. Moreover, we were concerned about existing lead paint and using environmentally friendly (low VOC) new paints in the room. He is well versed in operating a "green" business and took great care to clean up after the job. He arrived on a Monday morning (on time...which is unusual for most painters/contractors) and did the patch work and trim painting. The next day, he did the walls with 3-4 coats of our chosen color. He kept me updated throughout the job and always answered the phone when I checked in like an annoying homeowner.

He was very responsive and very professional. He was helpful in that he told me what kind of paint to use even if I didn't go with him or if I decided to do it myself. He was great. I am considering using him for the work, but I just want to get some other estimates.

We were buying a new house, and we wanted it all painted before we moved in. He was very professional and gave me a thorough estimate room-by-room. It was a very itemized estimate. The only reason I didn't go with them was scheduling. They couldn't come when I needed them to come, and it would've delayed the move.

We had another estimate and thought that their estimate was high and our impression of this one was unreasonably low. They were less professional compared to the first company that came out, and they were maybe going to be less thorough about their preparation job. They were very concerned about the possibility of lead paint and how they were going to manage collecting paint tests and sending them off to the EPA. There were pluses and minuses, but we decided to get a third estimate and that bid hasn?t come in as yet, so we haven?t decided who we are going to go with. My husband met with them and I think he was satisfied and they were on time.

Shane is a good guy and does quality work. We had a large project that and Shane was flexible to work wtih the other contractors and their timelines.Will be using him to paint our basement after completing some remodeling work down there.

Shane gave me a very competitive bid. He was prompt and professional in all regards. He communicated with me on all major decisions but used good judgment on the little things. He did great work.

On schedule, and on budget, and the work appears to be of fine quality. Shane strikes me a serious and professional guy, with integrity.

Shane is a painting contractor who lives in the neighborhood... we always see his van around and we thought we'd ask him to bid our basement remode project (specifically doors, trim and "library-board" paneling). While the price was VERY reasonable for the amount of work we needed done, we decided to do the work ourselves being we had done some "sweat-equity" painting in the past. Shane was still very helpful in making our project successful through his advice. Because of his knowledge and service, we'll be using him to do some staining that we're not comfortable doing ourselves.
