Description of Work: They patched stucco on my house where the electrical mast had been pulled from my house as a result of a storm. They had the lowest estimate. I believe the guy who provided the estimate and did the work was the manager or owner. He was very responsive, they were able to come out and fix it very soon after I called and I was really happy with the work.

Description of Work: I needed an estimate for some damage that a landscaper had done. Modern Exterior's came right out and wrote up an estimate for me. I am also planning on using them to repair some work a previous stucco company would not stand by.

I thought the price was excellent. It was $1300 less than the next estimate I got. I thought it was a good price. They came and did the work over probably a 3 week period, because stucco needs some time to cure and for it to cement. They did everything they said they were going to do, which included some masonry repair with bricks on top of the retaining wall, as well as the stucco.

Scott arrived promptly to look at the job and provide an estimate. We had had new windows installed and patching around the new windows was needed. We hired him & he did the best possible to match the existing color and it looks good. He recommended a specific brand and color of caulk, which we could do ourselves to save a bit of money. We will absolutely hire Scott again should we have more stucco needs.
Description of Work: patched stucco - Scott was the only one we contacted willing to do a very small job whereas most of the 6 Angie's List companies we contacted were not even willing to come out and give us an estimate. The two companies that would come out suggested removing the stucco on the ENTIRE house rather than just patching, which was not logical to us.

I felt confident of Scott's integrity from the first time I met him in the bidding process. He was friendly, professional and seemed knowledgeable about stucco. I was shocked when his bid was about 4K less than the next competing bid. I asked him why that was, and he said that he honestly didn't know. It took us a while to actually get the job started since I was paying for it with a loan from the city (a ton of bureaucracy), but Scott was incredible in communicating with me throughout... he never lost his patience, despite the fact that I am guessing I was a bit high-maintenance. When it came time to actually start the project, Scott and three other people did the sandblasting themselves and did an amazing job in sealing up the house, knocking down a couple wasp nests, calming the fears of my nervous neighbor, and then cleaning up afterwards. To be honest, we came home and I could hardly tell that anyone had been sandblasting that day because they did such a great job cleaning up. My plants that were right next to the house likely won't recover from the experience since they had a tarp on them and got trampled a bit, but this is not Scott's fault; he warned me to transplant them if possible for the duration of the project, but I just never got around to it The patching also went off without a hitch. The redash day also went smoothly. They mixed up the color we had (finally) chosen and painted it on the house so we could approve it. Then they went about a very very thorough prep job. I can't go into the ins and outs of the actual work they did, but it looks good today (the day after) and they again were very thorough in cleaning up and putting back gutters, awnings, mailboxes, etc. The only disappointments I have is more with myself and my lack of knowledge about stucco. Perhaps Scott could have prompted us more during the bidding process to talk about our vision because then we would have found out that it just wasn't possible to do what we wanted within our price range. But perhaps that's unrealistic to expect them to do that? I'm not sure. The details: at the beginning of the project, we had envisioned a darker colored house with a very flat surface -- more modern than what it was. Instead, we didn't find out till sandblasting day that we really should only do a light color -- it has to do with the fact that a darker color would reveal the patches underneath and look blotchy when using regular Portland cement. We could only get the darker color with a synthetic final coat, which is more expensive. We also found out on the day of the redash that we couldn't get the flat surface we envisioned because again, with Portland cement, there isn't a lot they can do to make something flatter than it already is. I spoke with some other stucco people to get a second opinion on this and they agreed that I would have had to have gone with something called "soft coat" in order to get the flatter surface. I wish I'd known that in advance as well. But despite the fact that the house looks different than the dream house we'd imagined (sigh), we are happy with how it looks. And you couldn't get a friendlier and more conscientious bunch of people to do the work. I just wish that I'd had my reality check at the outset.

Modern Exteriors had a great team and they worked seamlessly with our other contractor to replace the rotting wood to remove the stucco, have then fix the house and then they came back and re-applied the stucco. It looks like they did a good job of matching the color to our existing stucco as well. Very easy to work with and they did a great job.
Description of Work: We had to have a corner of our house replaced due to water damage and needed the stucco removed and then replaced after the work had finished.

I was terrified of this whole process. I've never owned an older home before and needed some MAJOR and complicated stucco repair. Modern Exteriors aced the project. They first undertook a chimney stack that had endured years of water damage. The stucco popped off like egg-shell and Scott and his team did a really beautiful job matching the existing knock-down pattern of stucco to the rest of the home. They worked pretty quick and cleaned and were very mindful not to be sloppy around the decorative stone of my old tudor. Then they got up and into my stucco at the roofline to either add flashing where there was none, or repair what was already there. They trimmed off a narrow piece of stucco, flashed the bejesus out of my pitch-lines and mended the stucco for a clean line (no flashing showing). While all that was wonderful, nothing compares to what they were able to do with the rear of my house (see pictures). I have a 1.5 story tudor that had an old, single car garage attached. That garage was rotted from the ground up and had to come down. In its wake, it left a pretty significant mess to be dealt with. Exposed now to the elements, the formerly interior wall was comprised of 4 separate types of masonry (old cinderblock, new cinderblock, some weird, 1932 square clay block and old brick). In addition, the wall was on two separate planes, the one requiring stucco sticking out further than the plane that already had it. Add to this the fact that I had installed a new bay window and French door in the same area and you've got yourself one helluva complicated mess. The best case scenario was to minimize the plane change in the wall to reduce a "bubble" or "belly" effect. The crew, mercifully, accommodated my schedule (after many, many shifts in my timeline) and came to work on a Saturday to squeeze me in and finish the work before it was too cold so I could have my house painted in time for winter. They were flexible and gracious about that and never gave me any trouble over how many times I had to reschedule. They prepped the entire area and made sure to thoroughly protect my new window and door. They then spent a lot of time making sure to get the mesh up and mudded a void where a steel header had to be put in. Next, they put up the flat coat to try and contend with all the plane changes and janky masonry. When that round was completed, they applied the knock-down coat. You would NEVER know it was such a nightmare. The end result is just beautiful. These guys are professional and fun to work with. Scott's whole team is really nice and easy to work with. Scott returns calls and is very accommodating if your schedule is giving you a headache. I would definitely recommend using these guys. They are thorough, great to work with and the price was really fair (had multiple bids). Use them, for sure, if you need stucco help.
Description of Work: Scott Nicko and his team at Modern Exteriors removed old stucco from a water-damaged chimney stack, meshed and repaired/replaced with new stucco to match existing. He also repaired and replaced a large section of stucco at the rear of my house, which had previously been on the interior of an attached, single-car garage that had to come down (the structure was unsafe). Finally, he replaced and repaired flashing where the roof met the house and tidied up little odds and ends over the whole home.

Scott's service was exceptional. He came out to do the bid the day after I called, and knowing our time constraints for completing the work before the close of our house at the end of the month, was willing to squeeze us into his schedule the next week. To my surprise two days later (ahead of schedule) his team had already cut out the damaged area and completed the initial patch on the garage. After allowing that to cure they were back within days to finish the texture and color match on the stucco. Great job and great service. I would highly recommend this company.
