We were extremely pleased with professionalism and craftsmanship of Joe. He arrived at the scheduled hour, was meticulous in his work and very congenial. I have no qualms in recommending him and Minnesota Window Restoration to others. Summer is apparently a busy time in the window repair trade and our project was scheduled six weeks out. It was worth the wait.

It went great. I don't have to prop open my windows anymore with candlesticks or books. Jason did a great job. They really know how to fix old windows. I am very grateful that they were able to fit me into their schedule.

Description of Work: Our house is just over 100 years old. Minnesota Window Restoration just performed phase 2 of our 3 phase storm window replacement (they did phase 1 last year). They are extremely knowledgeable and provide great looking, great working storm windows for the specialty, original, leaded and stained glass windows in our home. We will definitely have them complete phase 3 next year.

Description of Work: Mike and Joe showed up on time and did a very nice job in a timely fashion. The century-old windows at the house we were renovating now work great. I've been dealing with a lot of contractors lately (good and bad) and these guys were the best.

Description of Work: I live in a 1925 classic mechanics bungalow. We have the original windows of the house which are extremely drafty. I thought my only option was window replacement until I found MN Window Restoration. I spoke with Mike who came to look at my windows and suggested their high efficiency storm windows as a reasonable fix. We could do more later if that was not enough. Unfortunately (old home curse) there was a fair amount of rot along the trim of our windows. Eight storm windows were approximately $2000 and fixing the wood trim around the windows was another $2000. Gary did this work and he was nothing short of amazing and explained everything to me. Both he and Mike have answered multiple questions from me about how I should paint the trim, where is the best store to get paint and how to keep my windows healthy for years. We are currently only at the stage of trim replacement, but I will write again once the storm windows are in. I would recommend and use them again to anyone who wants to maintain and restore the beauty of their old home.

Description of Work: Mike repaired the sashcords on six windows in my 1911 bungalow. He did all of the work in one day. Several of the windows were very tricky. I am thrilled to be able to use all the windows again without putting a stick in it to hold it up. Mike is an expert on old windows and dedicated to preserving them.

Michael cares and knows about windows. The only glitch was on the manufacturers end, which resulted in a small delay. He kept me informed all through the process. Gary installed the windows in bitterly cold weather for which I am grateful. There has always been drafts from the windows. Since installation it is comfortable and warm. Highly recommended.

It went very well. Mike is very knowledgeable and informative and he is flexible with his schedule. He goes the extra mile and has a lot of pride in his workmanship, which is very nice to see nowadays. He is truly a craftsman, probably much like the men who built the windows originally in 1932. I've had a few guests over since Mike finished and I had my windows open with the nice weather. Everyone's very impressed that I have an old house where the windows actually work, especially the upper sashes! Most people don't seem to realize that "double hung" means both sashes are supposed to move.
Description of Work: Restored 10 double hung windows and 2 casement windows to original condition and functionality in my 1932 house.

Mike and Gary were professional and prompt in responding to our questions and requests. The work was split between two seasons, starting in the very late fall of 2012 and just wrapped up this summer. Storms on the main house were completed first, with the front porch being completed most recently. Mike was able to respond to change requests promptly, and Gary was flexible on scheduling installation times. We were able to arrange to do some of our own painting of the existing interior windows and frames in between removal of the old storms and installation of the new ones. They also took care of recycling the old storms. I would definitely recommend working with them, especially if you are at all concerned about maintaining the historic integrity of your old home and its original windows. We'll likely be working with Mike on a future project to repair and restore the existing original windows on the home as well.
Description of Work: Ordered and installed new custom made Allied Aluminum storm windows (http://alliedaluminumwindows.com) on 2.5 story home built in 1905. Some carpentry work was also needed on the front porch to accommodate the new windows.

The project went smoothly and all the work was done in a professional way. We are delighted with our new windows!
Description of Work: MWR restored all the windows in our 1920’s-era house and installed new combination storm/screen windows. The job involved removing all the windows, reglazing them, replacing glass if needed, preparing the exterior sides for painting, reinstalling the windows and making sure they all work smoothly. Michael also did carpentry to replace water-damaged window frames in bathrooms. He did a great job with the entire project. The project went smoothly, we knew what to expect all along the way, got helpful tips on painting (which we elected to do ourselves), and the job was on time and on budget. Michael’s workmanship was meticulous (as was the every day cleanup) and he was a pleasure to work with. We strongly recommend MWR.

I had a great experience with "Minnesota Window Restoration". I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I found Michael on the Internet and called for an estimate. I began the work a year later. Michael was very informative. he had to replace wood on 3 windows and a storm door frame because of wood rot. They did a beautiful job matching the rest of the woodwork on my 1928 home. Michael also recommended a painter to repair and paint my window trim. I am so happy with my new storms. I will most surely be calling Michael next spring to refurbish the inside of my double hung windows.

He was great. He did an excellent job and gave us quick workmanship. The price was fairly reasonable. He was very clean and friendly. He was punctual. He was busy when I called him since it was fall and everybody was getting projects done. So he took a couple of days to get the work started but he was quick and on time and true to his words. I did not any problems there. I wish I could work with him again. I contacted him for a smaller job which he could not help me with but he recommended somebody who could and that was nice.
Description of Work: I used Minnesota Window Restoration in the fall of last year to replace the sash cords for five double hung windows. All the windows had broken sash cords. He came in pulled the windows apart and replaced the cords.

We had several windows with one or more broken sash cords that needed to be propped up. Mike replaced both cords on each window, regardless of whether they were both broken, which means the window is less likely to have a problem for many years to come. Our windows are constructed in a way that Mike needed to fish in the new cord, something that can be difficult to do, but he was up to the challenge. He was very through, tidy, and professional. We have wanted to preserve the windows in our old home because they are well-constructed. I know we would hire Mike in the future!

Working with Michael was great. He came to the house to assess our windows and was patient with my questions and never tried to push any extra work. He provided options for storms and explained the work he would do. He was accommodating of our schedule and worked efficiently when he was here. He worked in the house alone and everything was cleaned when he was done. The new storms went in first so we would have a tight seal while the sashes were out being repaired. He sanded the face of the sashes to allow for an easier paining job. Since the storms and window work was done, we got through the summer with the ability to open the windows wide to let air through, and open them from the top so our small children and dogs wouldn't lean on the screens, and we got through a long winter with noticeably fewer drafts, far less condensation, and no damage to the windows. We are so happy with the results we will hire Michael to come back this spring to finish the remaining 5 windows on the upper level of the house.

na - estimate only
Description of Work: I received an estimate on refinishing my double hung windows from 1939. Mark was extremely knowledgeable about the process and was not a high pressure salesperson, instead working with me to try to prioritize the plan. The bid was about half of the price of completely replacing the windows and would have resulted in much more authentic and beautiful windows. In the end I decided not to do the project as I will probably only be in the house for a year or two.

Michael was great. He was very professional. He came out to do an estimate promptly. He was able to do the work the following week. He replaced broken glass and sash cords on 2 LR windows as replaced 2 sash cords in 2 kitchen windows. He replaced the broken glass and put on new glazing. He also "unstuck" another window. He did all the windows in 1 day. When he was done all the windows went on and down easily ( for the 1st time) and looked very nice. He left the area neat and clean. He clearly appreciates older homes like mine built in 1921 which has almost all original windows. He also gave info about replacement storms.

Michael returned my call promptly and showed up when he said he would. He looked at the windows and suggested an entire window frame rebuild as he felt more was rotted than just the sills. Unfortunately, I didn't have the money to spend--considerably more to do as he suggested--and really just needed the sills addressed at this time. Michael was professional and clearly cares about his work and wouldn't suggest doing a half-job just to get hired. If I am ever able to do significant rebuilding/replacing of my woodwork, I'll call him, but as it was I had to go with someone who would replace just the sills.

Michael was part of Gary Oberg's window sill replacement team that I hired to repair/replace the rotten sills on my windows. Michael mentioned that he could take my windows and give them some TLC. He provided me with one estimate that included spot glazing but then suggested what the price would be if I were to have all of the windows reglazed, which was really the right way to go about it. Michael needed to coordinate the glazing portion of the project with another person specializing in that area, so when they were both ready, Michael took out the windows (took about 20 minutes) and them brought them back four days later to reinstall them and to finish the work (took about 2 hours).
Description of Work: Repaired French windows by securing bottom rail with insertion of wooden dowels, attached wooden bottoms to replace missing pieces, provided new brass vintage style hardware for the locks at the top and bottom of the windows, replaced four glass panes, reglazed each pane, removal and reinstallation of windows.
