Due to the very wet April/May weather, the project started a couple weeks late but they quickly got the demolition done and new slab poured between rain storms. Other than delays with the city inspectors, the project moved quickly with as much of my involvement as I wanted. I made several small changes to the scope of work during the progress and received very prompt updates to cost and schedule. I was very pleased by the clear understanding they provided me on all planned and change costs (no surprises).

They were very good. In fact, we really liked them. They were very knowledge. They are obviously specialized in building the garage, so they know what they are talking about. Their pricing was a bit high.

Overall everything went fabulously. It was clear from our initial consultation that we were dealing with a company that knows their business, was honest, forthcoming, and great to deal with. We highly recommend!

Joe provided excellent communication, in person as well as follow up via email afterwards. Timely and professional throughout.

I used Angie's List to chose Minneapolis Garage. Joe came out and listened to what I wanted, explained what they would do and gave me an estimate. The project was completed in a very professional manor with a few rain days delaying the start, but no major glitches. Minor issues; I needed to adjust the dead bolt (it wasn't lined up to lock) and caulk the service door where water came in. Both of these problems took about 15 minutes to fix, and I thought it would be quicker if I took care of them myself. Joe takes great pride in the quality of workmanship and would have sent someone out to fix these had I asked. Many neighbors have commented how good the garage looks and how well the siding and roof match the house. Overall, an excellent experience and I would not hesitate to use them again.

They are fabulous and we love them. We talked to them a couple of times and they are great. They didn't charge us anything because they put the garage up. They are really personable and they are very good about getting back to us anytime we call. They do a nice job and they get things done quickly. They do a great job and they are reasonably priced. They have done a bunch of garages in our neighborhood and everybody is happy. We had several people come and give us estimates and they were the cheapest. We have been very happy. They are very responsive; anybody that comes out in a February snowstorm is great.

My husband and I originally contacted Joe regarding rebuilding our garage. Since the housing economy fell right around that time we didn't have the home equity needed to get the loan to do the work. In the meantime, we've been doing other small jobs around the house. Every year though Joe and I touch base to let him know where we are at as a new garage would greatly improve our house! And, we are impressed with Joe and his company. Sadly, our house price continues to fall. In anticipation of a new child, we needed to move my husband out of his office to make way for the kid! On our yearly touching base this year, I happened to mention this to Joe and about wanting to add a window dormer to one of our other bedroom upstairs that is like a cave with one small side window (The room is good for drying laundry and dry storage. It would be inhumane to have anyone use this room!). This would give my husband his office back which he needs! Joe offered to come out and give an estimate. We didn't have a budget or a clue what it would cost. This room also has wood panelling which we want removed and to have drywall installed. After talking to Joe, I did talk to another contractor - another Angie's list award winner. Their bids were dead even. At this point, the estimate is a good number but one we still have to save for. Once we do, we will go forward with the project. We really appreciate Joe taking the time to come give us a estimate eventhough he knew we weren't going to be doing the work right away.

My garage had deteriorated over time. I thought I would need to build a new garage but Joe was able to come and give it a full face lift. I had a great experience working with him. He completed everything to above my expectations. I'm thrilled with my new garage.

Generally, very well. everyone did great quality work. The only reason I gave a "B" to responsiveness, was that I had to call the company to get a few small things completed to my satisfaction

Joe was always punctual and good for his word. I appreciated very much his proactive communication style which help prevent possible mistakes and such. Joe gave us a good estimate and stayed within it as the project evolved. He also had our best interest in mind and was genuine in his kindness. The project all in all took what seemed to be a long time but in all truth the rain stalled the progress for a good week or so. We were kept up to date on progress and didn't feel that any of the staff was "pushy" with us. All in all they really did a good job and kept the site clean after their work.

They were absolutely outstanding. He was wonderful and great to work with. The price was very competitive. The quality of the work was great. People have commented on how great the garage is. He was very, very responsive. He was always available by phone and would make special trips out. They were great dealing with problems with a neighbor attempting to sue. He was very professional.

The whole experience was excellent. Great workmanship, professionalism, and efficiency. Couldn't be happier that we chose Minneapolis Garage to do the job. Each part of the experience was done timely, and we had certain time constraints they held to. Always courteous, receptive to our changes and requests, and upfront about costs. I would recommend this company whole-heartedly.

I interviewed three companies for this job. Joe was very knowledgable of building codes and realistic of limitations. He obtained a variance from the city for this project. The project started early and finished earlier than hoped. From the concrete guys to the builders everyone was friendly and curtious. We even hired the guys doing the sofits and facia to do work on our house at the same time. We were well informed of what was going on and Joe always returned calls quickly. I asked for something to be changed in the design after it had been finished and it was done without a problem. It was a great experience after dealing with so many lousy people in the construction trades. After a major rain, the water drained as it should. This was a concern of mine. I would definitely recomend mnpls garage to a friend or family member.

He was extremely professional, gave us a line-item estimate so that we could customize and change what we wanted after receiving the estimate, and was extremely responsive. He was timely, helpful, and kept the bottom line in mind while still offering a quality product. We ultimately chose not to rebuild our garage but to spend our money on other projects that needed to be done around the house. Had we built our garage, we would definitely have used Minneapolis Garage. We had an excellent experience, and when we decide to rebuild our garage in the future, we will be giving them a call back!

Our experience with Minneapolis Garage was excellent. Joe Slavek worked with us to realize a very nice garage within our budget requirements. The project went smoothly and was completed within one month. We were always kept apprised of the state of the project and what would be happening within the next few days. The various crews were always courteous and professional. Not only did they provide fine service, but they also respected our six-year old son - who was full of questions for them! Without reservation, I would recommend Minneapolis Garage to anyone looking for a garage builder.

I started working with them about a month ago, however there have been many delays due to the weather. They removed a tree and poured the concrete. Joe has been great to work with. The quote for the work has been reasonable. They have been both punctual and professional throughout the project.

He wasn't able to commit to completing the job within our specified time, which is why we did not go with him.

We contacted Joe in February and had him come out to bid on our project. He arrived on-time for the appointment, was very well prepared for the meeting, and was willing to answer all the questions that I had. He took lots of measurements during the visit and sent me a bid within just a couple of days. My initial impression was that Joe is a hands-on business owner who could be counted on to answer my calls if problems arose on the job site and someone who would make sure that the project was done correctly. These impressions turned out to be true. Joe really came through for us with regard to our time line. We had a vacation planned for the 2nd week in June and we didn't want to have the house-sitter dealing with a construction zone. Joe told us to plan for a May 1st start, as long as the weather held. He called on the morning of April 27 to say that they could start the next day; he stopped by that evening to do some of the prep-work for the tear-down. The old garage was gone by noon on the 28th; Joe stopped by later in the day to make sure everything was okay; he took the time to pick up nails and other small bits of construction debris, and then put up a wire fence to make sure our daughter and dog were kept away from the area. The new garage went up very quickly; within 10 days of starting the project, we were able to park in the garage! There was a delay in getting the overhead door and the electrical installed due to the fact that we had to wait for the inspectors to sign off on the framing, but even so, the project was complete by the end of May. The workers were on the site early each day and stayed until about 4:30. Joe's concrete guys and his framing team were all very courteous and cleaned up the site well each night. I, as well as my neighbors, really appreciated the fact that the workers were quiet; they didn't blast music or yell to each other across the yard. There were a couple small issues that we had to have addressed during the project: there were some chips in the slab after the framers were done, one small piece of siding had slipped, and the framing for the window was slightly larger than the vinyl insert. In each case, I contacted Joe via e-mail around 5pm; by noon the following day, Joe had come out and taken care of all of them. Joe and his framing foreman went out of their way to help us try to reinstall the vinyl gate that had to be moved as the result of the bigger garage. Unfortunately, we couldn't reuse the old posts, so it didn't work out in the end, but I sure did appreciate them trying to save us the hassle of hiring a separate contractor to do that job. Overall, I was very happy with Mpls Garage; from the start of the process to the end, it was painless. Joe is very quick to return calls and e-mails, and can be depended upon to follow-through. We are very happy with our decision to hire Joe and his team for the job, and would definitely recommend him to friends and neighbors.

From December of '07-January of '08, I was stuck at home because of a work-related injury. I had plenty of time to interview contractors and in many ways it wasn't even close as to who we would pick to build our new garage. Joe was the easiest to work with on price (especially important since we were also doing a basement remodel), and we were able to skim off what we didn't really need (but could add later) to ease the crunch. Because it was winter, they wouldn't be able to start until June or so, which was fine. Here's where the first of only two hitches came -- rain, rain, rain. That delayed things for a couple of weeks. Then when they came to do the tear-down, Joe discovered that because of the way the old garage was built it would be potentially dangerous to tear it down by hand, so we waited a few more days for an excavator to come in and take it down. Other than these two glitches, construction went rapidly. The concrete slab was poured, and after it was "cured," things zipped along. In fact, we went away on vacation for a week, and when we came back, it was all done except for a couple of details. Our neighbors told us how impressed they were with the speed and quality of the work, too. Through it all, Joe was easily accessible via phone or email if we had questions. Clean up was nicely done as well. The only reason it took so long to post this is because my wife and I each thought the other had already done it!

Joe was excellent to work with. He did very little of the physical work himself but he contracted with top notch professionals! He coordinated everything and we didn't have to worry about a thing. New cement, electrical, framing...it was all taken care of. We couldn't be happier! BTW - he was about 2K cheaper than the next lowest bid, too!

We heard about Joe Slavec (owner) through a friend. Joe was prompt with scheduling a meeting with us, very friendly and full of advice based on his experience. He was always willing to answer email and phone questions about ideas we had, and continually revised his bid based on these changes. His crew was very nice and respectful of our neighbors and property. They maintained the schedule perfectly, and were always responsive to changes and questions. In addition to the quality of work and their friendliness, Joe was great about providing cell and email updates and schedule adjustments, routinely keeping us informed of the plans over the upcoming 3-5 days. Coordination with subs and city inspectors was smooth. Our garage was completed on time and under budget (imagine that!), and we are very happy with the finished product. Joe and his crew were very responsive to 2 touch-up issues we had and fixed them quickly. We will continue to recommend Minneapolis Garage Builders to anyone in need.

First of all, I've hired many people over the last year for various projects as I've remodeled an old house and Joe was by far one of the most responsive contractors I've worked with. He always answered his phone or called back within a very short time. I ended up making some changes as the project progress, like changing the door height to a taller door the day they were framing and he not only called me back immediately, but his crew was able to make the changes and continue working without a hitch. His framing crew worked fast and efficiently. His concrete crew did a good job of grading the slope, pouring the slab and finishing the driveway. I was also able to hire them to do some extra bobcat work in my backyard while they were there. Overall I think Joe did a great job and I'd hire him again.

We can't wait to have the work done.
