I started my concrete and masonry career in 1998 working with a local Minneapolis concrete contractor. This was where I recognized my passion for the concrete and masonry trade. I started Mill City Concrete and Masonry Inc. in 2006 and since then we have become a leader in the concrete and masonry industry. Serving the twin cities metro area, we specialize in concrete driveways, steps, sidewalks, patios and masonry stone and brick inlays. I'm on every job site and do not sub out any projects from start to finish. I bring my knowledge, passion and drive for perfection to every project large or small. When you decide to employ Mill City Concrete and Masonry Inc. you are making a decision to hire and support a local business with it's roots in the Minneapolis community. We use only the best materials and techniques on all of our projects. My team and I are true artisans in the concrete and masonry craft. Tim Fountinelle
In summer 2015, we contracted Mill City Concrete & Masonry to replace our sidewalk from the front steps to street. Although we were very pleased with quality of the work we found that the bottom steps were not ideal for our aging situation. We talked to Tim about our concerns and he did not hesitate to agree to a do-over on those steps. The new steps not only met but exceeded our expectations. It?s great to work with a company that stands by its work. Also, the crew was great. We would not hesitate to call them again.

Cannot say enough for this company! They were creative, did a beautiful job, and worked very hard the whole time they were here! We had friends and neighbors commenting on their work ethic - it was amazing! They were very professional and friendly at the same time. Took a lot of pride in their work, and we love what they did because of it! Would highly recommend them (and have on many occasions already!).

Called for estimate, responded in two days. Accepted bid, it was lowest of three bids, and work started as scheduled a month latter. Had great ideas for water drainage problem with underground tank. Beautiful curves - aesthetically pleasing. Showed up when they said they would. Great eye for detail. Didn't know concrete could look this good. Nice work crew - always respectful. Good site clean up. Extremely pleased with their work. Would recommend them in a heart beat.

They explained that they would not be able to get to it this fall, due to weather and schedule but I would be first in line come the spring. It being late fall in Minnesota this seemed reasonable to me. I requested the estimates so that I could plan accordingly and have everything lined up for the spring. I heard nothing for 3 weeks so I reached out with an e-mail and phone call, leaving a message. I heard nothing for another 3 weeks so reached out once more. I still have gotten no response. I am not sure if they lost my info (although I left it several times) or they decided my job was not worth their time. Either way, complete silence from them and even after several attempts to contact them has made me question their professionalism and ethics.

The work done was excellent. Very happy with the walkway and the work that was done. Would have been happier with a bit more communication. I was going to break out the concrete myself and was timing it so that the old concrete was out before they got there. I got 1/2 of it out, but thought I had another week for the rest. Their other job ended early, so they came over (which was great) but come to find out I didn't need to break out all I broke out, as they just poured over the old. Would have been nice to know before hand. Otherwise the quality is very good and I am very happy with it. I will have them do the steps.

Tim responded very quickly to our request for a bid. Came to see the project and we had an estimate the next day. His bid was not the lowest, but his knowledge and attention to detail (everything in the bid was itemized) inspired confidence. The work was completed in the time frame Tim provided. The clean up was terrific with fresh dirt spread around the project. The work is first class and they were so pleasant. It is clear they take great pride in their work and it shows in the final result. I recommend them highly.

I did not like their bid. We haven't done any of the work yet, because things have been coming up. The estimate was on an attractive paper and it was very descriptive. They were very knowledgeable, and very professional. Their bid was higher than some of the other places, but they may have been right on target, and the other bids may have been undercharged over all.

We got estimates from several companies to do this project. Tim's bid was the middle bid. (The low bid did not use the quality of materials we wanted; the high bid used comparable materials but was inexplicably thousands of dollars more.) Tim's bid used very high quality materials for a very reasonable price. He helped me to figure out the best layout for the new steps (making them wider) and was very helpful in suggesting what would look best. The work went very quickly and smoothly. The work site was cleaned each night and was clean when they left the final night. The finish on the steps is particularly impressive. We just used regular concrete, but the attention that was paid to finishing the steps was great! They even spent time finishing the side which will likely be covered by landscaping. I would recommend using Mill City Concrete to anyone.

Excellent job. We are so happy with our new steps. The original steps were way too steep. Adding an extra step decreased the steepness greatly. Tim is so easy to work with. He communicates clearly and is patient, as was evidenced when my elderly neighbor became a little confused about the original scope of the job at her house. Will definitely use these guys again!

Went very well. Compared to other quotes I got, this one was by far the most reasonable. Much lower than Hage, even though their quote didn't include the walkway. Since I work from home, I was able to observe each part of the project first hand. Tim, the owner was great, and he obviously cares about the quality of his work. My only minor complaint would be that they made some decisions on the cosmetic parts of the project without running them by me first. The project still looks great though.

We received several estimates from different companies prior to choosing Mill City to replace our long cement stairway. Our home is located on a steep hill and we were worried about the whole process of removal and replacement of the stairs. I felt immediately comfortable with Tim when he came to give us an estimate. He walked us through the whole process and was very responsive to all our questions/concerns. His estimate for the job was not the lowest or the highest we received. We chose him kind of on a gut feeling and could not be happier with the outcome. Tim and his crew were very friendly and hardworking. They added some design detail at the top and bottom of the stairway that really make it look grand! We were informed by trick-or-treaters on Halloween that we have 27 stairs and perhaps need to hand out larger candy bars next year ;) Other than that, we have received nothing but compliments from neighbors. We plan on using Mill City in the next 1-2 years for a new stairway/foundation in our backyard.

I requested estimates from several companies for the concrete project and settled on Mill City Concrete. I had seen his sign in the yards of my neighbors in the past year and I like that his company is practically in my neighborhood. Tim responded to my initial inquiry within 24 hours, set up a meeting (a few days later), made an assessment, gave me a fair estimate and put my project on his list. When he set the date for his crew to come out, he came back over to be sure his game plan matched my wishes. I asked for a curve in the front sidewalk to be mindful of the roots of the maple tree in the yard. The back sidewalk needed a space for drainage and I needed the space under my basement steps to be sealed. Tim and his team were really thoughtful about how the spaces would look. When it came to the basement steps, they realized that the steps were rotting, so he asked if they could just replace the wooden steps with concrete steps. This seemed like a great solution with no up charge. Tim kept me updated on the project, what I should (or shouldn't) do and what to expect. The work was really well done. He came back for a post-work assessment and helped with one last request (at no extra cost). He and his team did great work. Not only would I recommend Mill City Concrete to anyone, but I will definitely use them again.

The front steps and frost footing were done first. I appreciated that they finished the front before doing the rear to provide easier access to my home. When that was finished the buttress and back steps were done. Since I was dealing with problems with another contractor at the time, I didn?t notice the problems with the work until much later. On the buttress, there are several gaps in the caulking between the concrete toppers and the brickwork. Also, the two parts of the topper are not in complete alignment at the juncture point. This is more noticeable on the street side. The front steps width and riser height vary. For instance, the top riser measures about 6? on one side and 7? on the other. The depth of this step in 11.25 on one side and 12? on the opposite. Other steps are also inconsistent but much less noticeably so. The frost footing is not level but angles in toward the house and down to the corner of the house so water tends to collect at the foundation rather than being diverted away. Another contractor estimated $1000 to correct this. The back steps are the worst. The risers measure from between 6? and 7? and are inconsistent on opposite sides of each step. The steps depth is from 11¼ aand 12¼ inches and these, too, vary on opposite sides of the step. The full footprint of the steps is 3? shorter on one side and is very noticeable. Because the back steps are much larger than the original steps (I did not request this change nor was I advised that this would be) so I can no longer use the railing and will have to buy a new one and hire someone to install that. I did try to contact Tim last fall about some of these issues, but my calls were not returned.
Description of Work: I hired Mill City Concrete to remove and replace the front steps and buttress and rear step of my home. I liked Tim immediately and he gave me a very competitive estimate. I had seen work done by Mill City in the neighborhood so I felt confident hiring them.

Our front steps were literally falling apart (and turning back into sand!). After calling around and getting estimates from 4 contractors, Tim from Mill City Concrete was by far the cheapest. After chatting with him about his process, he approached the work differently than others. He was able to pour both the stairs and the runners at the same time, saving money and creating a better connection between the two. He was able to get the work done over a 3 day period. He and his staff were responsive, accountable, and friendly. On top of that, they did a fantastic job! Once they finished, I decided the front brick "feet" needed to be replaced as well. Without hesitation, I called Tim for an estimate and within 2 weeks, his team had finished the job. Although he had to replace the footings (drilling down below the frost line), the estimate equaled the final cost. Overall, I was very impressed with all aspects of the work his team performed. I will definitely return to him for future needs.
Description of Work: Replaced two sets of front steps (5 steps, 4 steps) and a length of sidewalk, including a curved section. Tore out and replaced brick "feet" in front of house
