Description of Work: They put in a driveway with pavers. It took a considerable amount of time, and the next week I had a serious accident as they were finishing up the job, resulting in hospitalization. |After I recovered I discovered that much of the driveway was 6" below the grade of the gardens. In addition they ruined the sprinkler system wiring that ran under the driveway, despite saying they'd preserve it- cost a lot to redo it the following spring. |They also dug out with their heavy equipment a drainage pipe and grate next to the driveway used to drain water from the courtyard- simply covered it up and it too had to be re-built the next spring. |One of the pavers broke during the first winter. They finally replaced it but never Sealed it to match the others and it continues to stand out despite many attempts to call. They promised to add more sand to even out the pavers, a routine maintenance job after the first year, which never happened. |All told a nightmare experience !

Response from MEADOWOOD INC
Mrs. "Smith" did in fact have a very serious slip & fall in her kitchen during the excavation phase of the project, she ended up being taken to the hospital via ambulance with a broken back. Unfortunately, she was not up and or around for much of the project. Project Scope & Schedule: This project was a major undertaking, with a total of nine (9) working days (including Saturdays) to complete the 3,672-square foot renovation with a cost of $ 63k We explained the time frame and scope of the projected details with the customer prior to commencing. Items covered included the construction sequence and disturbance we would create to the existing landscaped yard & extensive gardens along the driveway including the irrigation system. Basically, defining potential restoration costs outside the scope of Meadowood's contracted work. Explaining that we would be over excavating the existing driveway configuration by 12" on all parameters and to a depth of 12". We installed, graded and compacted over 200 ton of aggregate. Irrigation Repairs: We met with the homeowner's irrigation contractor prior to the start of the project explaining our process and how it might affect his domain. As with most project layouts we would encounter sprinkler heads along the edge of the driveway with a feeder line somewhere under the driveway. This project was no exception; as mutually agreed upon, we would simply lay the existing sprinkler heads back and out of the way. He also indicated that there was a feeder line that crossed the driveway but could not identify specifically where. As we were going to remove materials to a total depth of 12" below grade we both understood that we would find it, remove it and it would need to be repaired. No big deal, we provided and installed a 2" pvc sleeving under the aggregate base material providing easy access for the contractor's reinstatement. At no time, did we convey to the homeowner that we would be able to avoid disturbing the irrigation system. Since most homeowners have a relationship with an irrigation contractor and pay the cost of reinstatement directly I don't know what kind of charges are incurred but I can't believe it is all that expensive ($2-300). In the past 38 years, I certainly have not had any prior complaints. Grade Change: This is just not the case and I have the pictures to prove it. Mrs. "Smith" pointed out the area that she is referencing and I tried to explain to her that the garden elevation/grade along that side of the driveway was on an uphill slope. That when we oversized the excavation by 12" it appeared that we had lowered the driveway by 5-6" but in fact we had not and the driveway grade remained flat, just as it had been prior to construction. Unfortunately, she did not understand; that we could not have changed the grade that drastically without warping an otherwise flat section of the driveway. Drainage Pipe: We did discover a poorly constructed "do it yourselfer" concrete catch basin poured around a 4" drain tile with a drainage grate (not designed specifically for this purpose) buried under the existing landscape rock mulch. We may have disturbed it a little when we were excavating but left it pretty much in the same condition as we found it. Paver replacement & Sealer: We may not have gotten to the paver replacement as soon as we would have liked but I'm sure that we apologized for the delay in getting there. We did replace it and since we did not seal the driveway nor have any knowledge that it had been sealed we were not prepared to provide that additional detail. We needed to find out who provided that service and find out what type of sealer they used (you can't mix and match). I do believe that the homeowner provided contact information for the company that provided that service and for some reason we just never hooked up. We did however install some additional Polymeric Joint Stabilization Sand along the garage floor and the areas along both service and front entry stoops where some settlement occurred. The remaining driveway did not require any additional polymeric sand and if required, would have been in effective with the sealer having been applied. Summary: This is a gorgeous project and the impact it has on this property is spectacular; I would be very proud to showcase it to anyone. I know Mr. "Smith" was really happy with the service we provided and extremely satisfied with his investment.

Bob was great to work with. We liked his design, and he was very knowledgeable about the whole construction process. We got several proposals and estimates before choosing Meadowood. Bob was the only one who thought about drainage (he added a pop-up drain) and noticed that his design would have to work around a low-hanging part of our roof and a concrete step that extended under the house. His thoughtful attention to detail made for a seamless installation. After the pavers were laid, we noticed that some of the pavers were not level with the rest of the grade. We called Bob, and he came out to take a look. His crew fixed the problem immediately. Bob is also a good listener. We didn't want an overly stylish patio, and his design definitely complemented our 1942 Cape Cod home. We liked that we could go to his site and see pavers in sample patios. When we decided to add a natural limestone stone cap to the sitting wall, Bob did considerable searching to find us the perfect stone -- not too white or yellow. It's beautiful. The only thing we wish is that Meadowood would seal limestone. It's not something that they do. We decided to seal our sitting wall cap, but before we got around to doing it, a bird made several deposits on it! Bob's team came out to sand the spots for no charge. If anyone wants to prevent staining of your limestone, seal it right away! Bob was a pleasure to do business with -- low key, friendly and responsive. We couldn't be happier with our new patio.
Description of Work: Bob tore out our 1942 patio and put in a new paver patio, steps, and sitting wall.

Meadowood does patios, driveways, sidewalks, etc., ( hard landscaping) but not ponds, plantings (although Bob knows plants very well!), shrubs, etc. He did subcontract out sod work for us. Patio and sidewalk are excellent - beautiful! He worked well with us to finalize the design (he made some good recommendations on design scheme, and we needed some adjustments on proposed size).
Description of Work: We had to make a couple extra phone calls and the lead time for responses to the calls was a little slower than we liked, but when we nailed down a start date, the crew was on-time, and worked all day, then returned the next day to finish up. Sod work was subbed out, and was overall ok (good-quality sod, well excavated) but we felt like we were at the tail-end of a each day's work on larger jobs, and it took two days to finish (kind of awkward to water a partially-sodded lawn). Also, many of the gaps between sections of sod seemed a bit large. I don't remember the name of the outfit, although Meadowood has used them for many years.
