Derek was great to work with. He was very personable, always responsive, and his tiling skills were amazing. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of work performed. We enjoyed working with him so much on the bathroom that we had him do the backsplash in the kitchen. I would recommend Derek to anyone needing tile work.

Derek does beautiful work. When he first gave me his estimate, he asked a lot of questions to make sure we were on the same page. There was good communication throughout the process, which is not always the case with a contractor! He was very upfront with telling me about problems that he might run into that might change the quote. The floor looks really beautiful, and I couldn't be happier.

Derek transformed one of the ugliest bathrooms in South Minneapolis into one of the most beautiful. The tile he replaced was a DIY job and tiles had begun to come loose. The floor was cheap linoleum installed only for the house sale. He gave me an estimate that was exactly what he charged for the work. Because this is a 1921 house, there were several unexpected problems, all of which Derek handled quickly and professionally and at minimal cost. After he began the work, I decided to replace the toilet and sink, and he secured plumbers, and scheduled the work to avoid delays. He gave me great advice about both the tile and plumbing options. The job became much more extensive that I had originally planned. What started as a tile repair job became a complete remodel, and Derek consistently offered advice that minimized cost while never sacrificing quality and beauty. I had a general idea about what I wanted, and Derek gave me work that I didn’t know I wanted – but love. The work took a full week, and he was a pleasure to have in the house. He consulted with me on the right issues, and otherwise left me to my own work. He put in long hours and kept me fully informed of what I needed to know. He cleaned up very thoroughly every day. He is a first rate craftsman and has great personal integrity.

The wife and I were thinking about remodeling the bathroom for some time. We called Derek awhile ago since we saw some of his work at a friends house and they had nothing but good things to say about him. We decided to wait awhile and put the project on hold. About a year later, we called Derek again to get the project started. I left a message on his cell phone and he called me back that afternoon. He came over a few days later and we went over what we talked about a year ago. We set a time that would work for both of us and we were under way. Derek met up with us to show the various style, sizes and colors of tile. We had no idea there was so much to choose from. He was very knowledgeable about all types and gave some ideas on what to look for. I think the most important bit of information that he gave us is: and quot;You are taking the time to remodel your bathroom so make sure YOU like it.and quot; Derek came over exactly when he said he would and got to work right away. I did all of the demolition myself and even bragged how easy it would be for him since I squared everything away. When I looked in on his first days work, I noticed he had to shim one part of the wall since it wasn't as good as I thought it was. He was nice enough not to say anything to me and spared my pride and feelings. Once the cement board was in place around the tub and on the floor, the work progressed very quickly. I was surprised how much he could get done in a day. I thought this project was going to take a week of tile work but Derek got it done in a few days. I came home as Derek was putting things away on the last day. I went to look at the finished product and was amazed by how beautiful it looked. I was excited to get a new bathroom but it went above my expectations. My wife and I am pleased on every level with the performance of Maverick Tile. So much so that we are going to re-tile around our fireplace and eventually tile the kitchen floor. I liked working with Derek and would recommend him to my family and friends. There is no reason to try anyone else, he does it all, especially cleans up after himself!

Overall, Maverick did a great job. The laundry room had a significant pitch to it and had a toilet and utility sink to navigate around. Derek made it look like it was no problem at all and the floor looks really good. Another company had said they couldn't use our larger tiles around the toilet and that we would have to buy smaller tiles for them to use in that area, but Derek didn't mention that as an issue. He also made the tiles around the floor drain pitched and look quite good. The only downside we experienced was the clean-up - tile shards and dirty grout/dust water was dumped outside on our patio. When called about it, Derek apologized and said it was an oversight and cleaned it up a bit, but the dirty water was not clean-up-able, so we had to do some scrubbing once the snow melted. All in all, not a big deal, but a minor negative note nonetheless.

I called Derek to set up a time for him to stop by for an estimate and he was able to make it out the next day. He showed up on time and talked though some different options with me. He also had recommendations for a plumber and general contractor if I needed either. He submitted his estimate the next day via e-mail and I thought it was very reasonable. He seemed like an honest and straightforward guy and even though I didn't end up having him do the job, I would recommend at least calling him if you're thinking about having any tile work done.

Outstanding result, very fair price, professional and punctual. Provided quick estimate and timely service. Beautiful job at a very fair price. Would hire again in an instant; only wish I had found him for earlier renovation projects. Clearly very skilled, and goes above and beyond to do the little things to finish the project. Just great!

Despite some problems with the correct tile being delivered by the tile shop, Derek was able to get the job done in time (which was important with winter coming). He worked on weekends to meet our deadline, and went out of his way to get the right tile. He also worked around the electrician's schedule (for installation of the underfloor heating system).

He started when he said he was, but before we bought supplies, he agreed to meet at the place where we were going tobuy the tile and discuss the color choices and various design options on which design would look the best and helped us with the ordering of the needed suplies. He started when he said he would and the project was completed in a timely fashion, so we would be able to show other family members this Sunday when they come over for a B.D. dinner for her dad. Her folks came over today (to do their wash) and her dad was the first to notice the completed job and he immediately call his daughter (my wife) to tell her how fantastic it looked. His unsolicited praise is better than the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval. We hope to tell others and show others the pictures that I scanned and downloaded onto our computer.

It is pretty perfect. It is just wonderful. He was very fast and efficient. He also did the work very cleanly. He is a perfectionist and was very unobtrusive to have around. Also, I feel he is a very honest person. There was a lot of detail associated with the job and I was really impressed with how he was able to handle the job, especially in an older house where nothing really lines up perfectly.

We had estimates from Derek and one other installer. (I was surprised at how few installers even called me back!) Derek's bid was substantially lower than the other bid because Derek didn't pull up the old kitchen floor, and instead felt it was best to put the new floor on top. Derek did a fantastic job! The workmanship is incredibly impressive, especially considering that our floor in our old house wasn't even close to being level when he started. I'm an at-home mom, so I saw when he arrived and when he left. I felt that he arrived too late the first few mornings, which put us a little behind schedule. When I told him he needed to get things done quicker, he brought in someone else to help him, on a Saturday! I will definitely use Derek again for any tile installation we do in the future!
