It has been 13 years since MFM re-roofed my house, but I'm just becoming aware of quality problems that are now becoming an issue. They were originally timely with the work and cleaned up afterward. The only problem I had at the beginning, and it's big one, is they used far too long nails around the edges where my old St. Paul house has a beautiful overhang with a tongue and groove bottom. The nails perforated the overhand all around the house with hundreds, maybe a thousand, places where the wood splintered. Even painting this area is now a problem with all the nails protruding. This is not a problem that can be fixed and I've accepted it. Now, however, I have whole sheets of shingles that are siding down from the roof into the roof valleys. I had a roof inspection and discovered that nearly all the shingles he could see had the nails countersunk to the point where many of them no longer can hold the shingle. MFM must have used too much pressure in their pneumatic nailers and they drove the nails too deep. Unfortunately, MFM's labor warranty expired 3 years ago.

Due to our windows deteriorating we decided to put in new triple pane windows. We contacted a number of window companies and had numerous estimates. Almost every company that came to give us an estimate told us that their windows were the best on the market, they also had special deals if we signed that day. Maintenance Free Mn came and gave us an estimate and of course told us about the product and then with no pressure just left and said to call them if we wanted them to do the work. We contracted with them a few days later. They said the windows would be delivered in about 5 or 6 weeks. It took a week longer than expected but we were not in a hurry. They called and gave us a weeks notice for installation date. The workers showed up on time and were very friendly. Watching them work you could tell that they were experts at window installation. After completion of the install, they walked us around to make sure were were satisfied with the work. They cleaned us any mess they made outside and they were very careful not to make a mess inside during the install. I would recommend this company to anyone considering replacing windows in their home.
Description of Work: Maintenance Free Mn removed eight crank-out windows and installed 4 double hung windows and 2 sliders and wrapped exterior of the windows.

Description of Work: I went with this group because of the price. They did the job close to when they said they would but were about a week late, it may have been weather related and that is not a big deal. The did the roof and it looked nice. The workers were standing on my gutters and bending them as they were working. The flashing around the dormers and certain areas is laughable, bent smashed and forced back into place and it is obviously bad. You can see from the street. They were to do some extra stuff (more vents, and some window flashing. They failed to install the extra vents, but I was charged anyways, and had to call to adjust the price. I never heard back about the window flashing. But I still thought I did not pay much and they have a 10 year warranty. Move forward to April 2014. I have some damaged shingles on the roof. I call and talk to one of the managers who puts me in touch with the sales/repair guy. It takes him a few weeks to come out and assess the damage and he says it is an easy repair and he will get a crew over as soon as he can but it is the busy season. We talk several times over the next several months. In November he finally schedules the repair but cancels because it snows and says he will do it first thing in the spring. I call back in March and leave several messages for both of the people I talked to over a year ago and after 3 months of messages have not heard a single thing from anyone involved with this company and cannot get a live person any time I call. Needless to say I feel very frustrated. I could have overlooked most of the problems I had with them and would have maybe given them a B or C rating. But after dealing with 14 months of broken appointments and non- returned phone calls I have no idea where to turn next. I was happy until I needed them, and then I realized what kind of business they were running. Hopefully someone will contact me someday soon and come and fix my roof. Hopefully I do not have extensive damage from waiting for them to do a job that was supposed to be easy 14 months ago. I will update this review if anything ever gets done.

Our experience was very good. They were great. They did a great job. One of the reasons we went with them was pricing. They were on the affordable side. Actually, they came out in September and gave us a bid on a couple of windows down in this level and now, they are coming out again on Sunday because we did not move on that bid and we want to move on that now. So, they are going to do measurements and put in three new windows for us.
Description of Work: We go through a Minnesota company for windows and we have them coming out again. That is called Maintenance Free Minnesota Windows. They put in Heartland windows. They came out several years ago and put in our windows upstairs. They put in vinyl windows. We live in an older house so the windows were kind of thatch wood and they got to open. So, they updated all the windows up stairs.

Sales person at my house, good, sales person on the phone, horrible.
Description of Work: I had them come out to do an estimate and was impressed by the sales person, but after having had 3 more estimates done, decided to go with another company. Apparently I was supposed to call them to inform them that I went w/ a competitor.....because they called me (at least) once to pressure me in to going with them. (I say at least because the # was 'restricted' and I had 3 more 'restricted' calls over the next week and a half that I didn't answer and they didn't leave a message). I was really disgusted that he called me and told me that I needed to tell them what my decision was.

The salesman was rude and a bully. He threw a fit when I wanted to think about the decision some more. Once I had signed, he had the nerve to go on and on and on wasting my time talking about his family. Then the crew came to do the job. My neighbor complained that the crew was messy and went in her yard and left their trash there. They didn't do things they said they were going to do: 1) they didn't rehook up my antenna, 2) they didn't clean up thoroughly, and 3) they didn't come back after a year for an inspection. The job was very messy with nails poking through the facia. They hounded me for the money even before the job was complete to my satisfaction. Now (February 2010) I have leaks (after only a little over 3 years) and they aren't responding to my request for help.

The sales people were good. The price was comparable to others. On the day the windows were to be installed, they said they would be there at 8:00 am. At 8:30 am, we had to call to see if the installers were coming out. They did arrive (about an hour late). In the dining room, instead of cutting out a 3/4" edge and making the window larger to fit as it should, they put a non matching trim piece around the window that has uneven gaps and does not look good. While installing the bathroom window, there were gaps on either side (3-4") that were not insulated at all. It makes no sense to install an efficient window without insulating next to it. We can't access it to insulate. We were very disappointed with the way windows are installed. This is probably not unique to this company, however it was not a quality job by any means.

The $600 was for one window. We had an old window with rotting brick mold that needed to be replaced. The salesman wrote down a quote to replace brick mold and the window. I was not home when the window was replaced, so when I came home to look at it I found that I could still put my fingernail through the side window jambs. Also, the caulking job was poorly done. I called the company and they sent the crew out to replace the side jambs. The old caulking was not completely removed before putting on the new caulking so it does not have a smooth looking finish. Overall, we have a new window, but we're not happy that we had to call them out to do the job right and that we have caulking that looks bad. We will be getting a new window company in the future.

The Salesman was very easy to work with, no pressure. There were some delays getting the siding (they had to re-order because they originally ordered the wrong kind). The window installers were quick and friendly. They did leave a little mess behind - but not too much. We ordered replacement windows (not new construction). We were told that we would loose a small amount of glass space (1 to 1.5 in), but due to the type of windows we originally had (where the trim was part of the window) we ended up loosing much more... over 4 inches on some windows. They knew this at the time that they measured the windows. They DID NOT TELL ME. So it was a Big Surprise when they actually installed them. If I had known ahead of time, I may have chosen to go with new constructions windows instead - or at the very least, would have been prepared for it. I am NOT happy about this aspect. They did a good job installing the siding. A little issue with roof - didn't speak English, but OK overall.
Description of Work: Maintenance Free Minnesota replaced 12 Windows in our house, wrapped all doors & windows, pulled off old siding and installed vinyl siding with insulation behind it, they also pulled off the old shingles and put on new ones. There was some rotten wood/builtrite repair.

I was very impressed with the service from start to finish. They did what they said they were going to do on time and with few problems. The quote I received was almost $4,000 less than the competition and I received 40 year GAF shingles instead of 30 year shingles that the competition quoted me. They didn't tarp a very small section of the roof and it did rain on it, but that turned out to be just fine after it dried. My roof is very steep and I was thinking about doing it myself, but I am so glad I had the professionals do it.

Horrible is an understatement. Weeks without work and no reason given. Had to spend a week in hotel because windows, which were done for 3 weeks, not installed and no insulation and temp down to 25! Roof not tarped, asked 3 times for it to be done, rained 2'' and ruined DR ceiling and rug below it in basement. Used our DR Hutch as workbench, took off tarp, wiped sheetrock mud on all sides. No cleanup in basement or addition. Ruined chest - used as cutting board - cuts on top front. Ruined rug - asked for 4 weeks for cleanup - contractors ground debris into rug - never cleaned up - we had to throw. Oak toilet seat ruined when worker stood on it instead of ladder - large gouges in oak. I will have to hire a repair person to fix all sheet rock issues, plumbing issue and lighting issue. We will never have them back in our home. It should not take 5 months for 300 sq ft. Incompetent, no customer service.
Description of Work: We added a 300 sq ft addition, extending the bathroom & dining room and adding a new bedroom. The whole house was also sided in vinyl.

WE TORE DOWN AND REPAIRED CEILING WITH ALL NEW SHEET ROCK AND SPRAYED CEILING. NO WORK WAS PERFORMED FOR 2 WEEKS BECAUSE WE HAD TO WAIT FOR CUSTOMER TO HAVE FUNDS FOR FLOORING. I TALKED TO CUSTOMER ABOUT SHEET ROCK PROBLEMS AND THEY HAVE BEEN RESOLVED. Our free estimate resulted in what seemed like a very reasonable cost. we were told there could be expense if roof decking needed replacement. Not in estimate. We did receive timely call of when the work would begin and they showed up on time. The work went well, no loud music was played, and they were courteous. When the city inspector came after the tear off, they had to wait some time because the plywood was not delivered yet and this held them up a bit. They removed rotten wood boards and took Polaroid pics of the work for the inspector who never returned again. Work was efficient, clean up was fairly good. Some old shingle pieces remained in our pine tree and blew off for about 2 or 3 days following the work. Problem came with siding repair where it gapped. First attempt was not satisfactory. I took pictures to show MFMinn inspector, then the work was redone satisfactorily. They were patient with some payment glitch on our part. I requested updated payment copy. Not gotten yet.
Description of Work: We had a 20-year-old roof with 3 layers of shingles which needed replacing as we experienced leaking into our upstairs bedroom. After getting several estimates we went with Maintenance Free Minn Inc on the confidence of our neighbor who had just had her roof done by these same folks 1 month earlier. The assessment included a complete tear off of the shingles, then the city inspector (upon my urging) got up on the roof to actually inspect the area which was leaking. This resulted in the need for replacement of the roof decking on the front dormer and the back where the roof sunk down some. 18 sheets of plywood decking were put on. Rotten boards were removed from the front dormer only. Shingles were then put on after the protective sheeting. Drip edge was installed. Flashing around chimney was repaired. Turtle vents were installed where they had previously been. Siding replacement was also done in areas of unevenness between surfaces by windows and roof line.

Mike, the salesman, arrived on time. He began his presentation. When we asked questions, he interrupted. His presentation lacked detail of what was actually included in the price. He gave little information about the window and had no cross section sample to show quality. When the price was calculated, we were pressured to make our decision immediately or the price would be considerably higher. When we asked him for license and bonding information so we could check out the company, he became disrespectful. No references were ever offered and we never got the chance to ask. When I pointed out that he continued to interrupt my husband's questions, he packed up his materials in a huff and was very unprofessional and rude. If we are going to spend $17,000+, we are going to check out a company before making our decision. This type of high pressure sales is appalling.
Description of Work: We received a flyer from this company and called for an estimate for siding, gutters and a bay window. We already had 3 bids but because pricing on their flyer was reasonable, we decided to get a price from them before making our decision.
