Les Jones Roofing did excellent work for us. The circumstances were unusual. We hired them for a job that was beyond our abilities, but too small to interest any of the other companies we contacted: to fix a gap in our house’s fascia that could have allowed insects or rodents to nest inside. A power line connects to our house near the gap in the fascia, so Les Jones would have to coordinate with the electric company to shut off power during the repair (a “line drop”). This coordination proved difficult for many months. On several occasions, Les Jones crews showed up on the day of the scheduled line drop, but the electric company had not shut off power, making the planned repair impossible. Nevertheless, the crews continued to do useful work when they showed up, including new tasks that we tacked on. In addition to cutting and painting the wood that they planned to use to repair the fascia, Les Jones teams fixed some small holes in our roof that our home inspector had noticed, and patched up a decorative finial on our roofline that had become damaged by snow after we’d signed the contract to fix the fascia. Throughout it all, the Les Jones representatives we dealt with in person, via email, and over the phone were consistently professional and friendly, even in very frustrating situations. Finally, the electric company came through on the scheduled day with the promised line drop, the weather cooperated, and the Les Jones crew fixed the fascia. The bill we received at the end of this unusual project was reasonable and contained no surprises. On the basis of this experience, we would definitely hire Les Jones Roofing again!

Needed tiles replaced on tile roof because the inside ceiling was leaking. They came out the next day and promptly completed the job, showing me photodocumentation of what they did. A smaller job by another roofer took months to complete and was $200 more. Les Jones is a great company.

We are pleased with the roof, enjoyed watching them work. They also designed custom gutters to accommodate the gutter covers we intended to use. The snow guards are fantastic! We went through one winter without them and realized how critical it was to have them to protect walkways under a standing seam roof. Because we wanted to be able to show the design/structure of our super-insulated roof, one of the workers was kind enough to build a small roof section for me to use as a display.

He charged me $2000 for the job, and I ended up having to pay $500 for damages he caused to my roof. He called me back a year later to see if I ever got it fixed, which I had. He was also supposed to being a machine to get the ice out of the gutter, and he never did that either. He never reimbursed me any money.

Came on time, did a good job but charged me twice as much in labor as what was discussed on the phone. Called them and was told, that is not the rates we charge. Never using them again, I hung up on him as he hasnt any idea on how to keep customers. I would have never agreed to the service if I knew the real cost.

It started with the estimated in the fall of 2014 and some scaffolding went up in front of the house that fall and the remained until they, some scaffolding and I think maybe they did a little work on of which I think was for the flashing around the chimney but then they couldn't do that because of the weather so that had to wait until the temperature went up again.

First, these folks were the most thorough in preparing their bid of anything ese we received (4 other bidders). Paul, our rep from Les Jones, went into our attic (no other bidders bothered) to verify the structural soundness of our roof. He also made some sensible suggestions for improving air circulation under the roof which we followed. The work started on time and was completed without delay. All minor "punch list" items were taken care of right way and Paul took care to see that my weather station on the roof was moved and replaced without interruption of service. He also made a point of crossing and crossing again our lawn with the magnetic nail picker-uper. I'd highly recommend these folks

They responded quite promptly to our emergency call for help when the roof started leaking badly during the spring rainy season. But it took two more emergency calls before the leaks were finally stopped. The new roof looks nice and appears to be holding up. There were some other issues with the roof that they fixed after asking and providing estimates of additional expense. The worst part of the whole operation was the clean-up. I had to go through the driveway area by hand to pick up nails, to avoid flat tires. I picked up about a pint of nails.

Les Jones Roofing provided excellent service throughout process of totally replacing our flat roof - site investigation, bid submission, preparation of contract, permit application, and execution of work. Following our initial contact Les Jones Roofing installed a temporary patch to worst area of roof without charge and without commitment to use them for roof replacement. They recommended we have the work done over the winter rather than waiting until Spring. They chose a mild weather week and proceeded from start to finish without interruption. A highly skilled crew performed the work. The site was kept clean at all times. We are pleased with the outcome and glad we chose Les Jones Roofing for our project.
Description of Work: Replaced existing flat roof system with new. Removed existing pitch and gravel and metal trim, made minor repairs to roof decking, installed new rigid insulation and EPDM roofing material, modified and reinstalled existing sheet metal trim, installed new scuppers, removed debris from site.

I actually had a competitor roofer refer me to this company. He felt that the repair I need would result in creating what was called a custom pan. He told me Les Jones makes these themselves and if he did the work, he would have to order it from them and then install it. He said it would cost me more for him to do it. One doesn't see that kind of honesty these days! I had to wait about 2 weeks before they could come out and do an estimate. Mike showed up a little bit later than the scheduled time. But, once he was here he did a very thorough job assessing the reason why water was leaking into the garage in that one area. He kept looking and thinking and looking at it. I had been told by other roofers that it would cost a few thousand dollars to repair after looking at it for a few minutes. His final analysis was that all that needed to be done was a repair costing only $350. It was not necessary to replace the custom pan and tear everything apart. He felt it was still in very good shape and only a few adjustments needed to be made in the flashing and a small section of shingles. When the roof was replaced a few years ago it was not done correctly so the problem resurfaced. I was so pleased to receive the estimate the very next day. That was unheard of at the time because I had been scheduling many estimates and projects for several repairs to my home. I was stunned with the turnaround time. I hired them and put in a request that the work be done shortly after since I was putting my house on the market within 10 days. I wanted to avoid having work done after it was listed if possible. I communicated with Sarah in the office and she worked hard to get it scheduled in the time frame I asked for. They showed up 8 days later and completed the repair. Matt was so awesome. He really knew is stuff and reassessed and considered what Mike had suggested. But, he was very knowledgeable himself and wanted to make sure it was the best approach. The previous roofers caulking of the flashing was very messy. Matt completely redid it and put a nice finish to it with a more appropriate color. Matt appeared to be training the other man who came with him and I heard him explaining everything to him and being a great teacher. I was thoroughly impressed with all aspects of my experience with this company and would hire them in a heartbeat in the future.

Once they have your 30% down the communication takes more effort on your part. The crew shows up on time, but they don't leave until 9pm. 14 hrs of banging away is a bit much; a glass fell from the cupboard and broke and some of my ceiling finish is now on my carpet, the home is only 13 yrs old. They have not cleaned up after each day and their materials and equipment are left strewn on my lawn, nor they have not protected my plants as promised. Let's just hope the roof installation is actually water tight.

It is now mid June and I still do not have a new roof. My sales rep Jon left along with someone named London who was assigned my account. I would leave messages or send e-mails with various Les Jones staff trying to get on the schedule. On 3 seperate occassions prior to June 12th, I was told they could not schedule me until they had a color selection. Each time I gave them my color selection (Black). Finlly a couple weeks ago, they stated they did not have a down payment (first time this was requested) or the roof color selection. I told him BLACK! He stated that he could schedule the job once he got the check. So I immediately sent them a check that exceeded that amount. Once the check had cleared my bank, I called and left another message. Again, no return call. I waited four days and I called in again and was forward to my sales rep. He stated he would get a date and get back to me within 5 minutes, which he did. Since I was in a meeting he left a voicemail (which I requested) stating that they had just received my check and needed a roof color. I was furious and called back and asked to talk with their COO. I left her a message explaining this situation and my frustration. I asked her to cancel the contract and send me my money back. Later around 5pm, my sales rep called me back (I presume after talking with their COO) to apologize and ask for one more chance to make things right. He stated that he would take over the project and oversee it and that the next day he would go into the office and get my job on the schedule, then give me a call and let me know when they would be out to roof my house... maybe even next week. I reluctantly agreed to give them one more chance. Friday the 13th came and went without a call from the sales rep or anyone from Les Jones Roofing. Unprofessional, frustrating and I will not be fooled again. Today I tell Angie's list, Monday I will talk with ownership at Les Jones to demand my money back. I received my deposit back promptly and without issue.
Description of Work: I initially contacted Les Jones Roofing late in the fall of 2013 after my insurance company stated I needed to replace my roof. I had used Les Jones Roofing on 3 seperate occassions priovously, the most recent was the reroofing my my existing home about 15 years ago. Initially the service was great. Jon, my initial sales rep/estimator came out quickly and gave me a quote. I signed the contract a couple weeks later and then hoped that weather would hold out to allow them to roof in 2013, it did not. So the project would have to wait until spring. That's when things went bad!

Update: We received a phone call several weeks after the initial contact and were informed that we did not need to pay on the bill we received. We apppreciate the outcome of the situation. Thank you.
Description of Work: I hate to leave bad reviews and have actually mentioned our experience to a few people who have used Les Jones before and they were surprised at what happened; this leads me to believe that they are probably a good company but unfortunately our experience was not. We called and left a message with Les Jones explaining our situation (a leaking ceiling) and our idea about what it was and were told that someone would get back to us to talk more about the situation. We never heard back from anyone. But, 10 days later received a bill from the company for work performed on our home that was unauthorized and not even the right fix for what was wrong. In my three attempts to call and explain the situation and let them know that we would not be paying for their service I never heard back from anyone. Similarity, a detailed email trying to get closure on the situation was never returned. I am very disappointed with the lack of communication and also the assumption to just perform work on our home without even speaking with us first to confirm what it was we needed.

Our initial meeting was very good and it went downhill from there. We own a mid-century California Ranch Walkout and were seeking a superior restoration of the exact roof with material updates. Six and one half years later we are scheduling another complete tear off and reroof. The original job was sub-standard. We were referred to Les Jones by friends who had a great experience with having their, very expensive cedar shake and copper flashing, roof replaced. The crew who did the actual work foraged for apples in our trees, trimmed the old growth oak tree, in our front yard without permission, in August? You have to trim oak trees when they're in dormancy. They also ignored architectural details on the roof, by shingling over them? The roof leaked the first year because of incorrect flashing installation. Shingles and other materials were left behind for two weeks, until we disposed of them. And, we were unable to communicate with the sub-contracted crew because they had very little, if any, command of the language. The flashing issues were addressed, as were the design issues, but possible insulation issues were never covered at the time of the estimate and have caused additional headaches, because of the development of severe ice dams, every winter since. We have a vaulted ceiling, so addressing insulation issues are part and parcel with a good roofing job. We were more than willing to pay for a superior job. None of this was considered, suggested, or addressed by Les Jones. The challenges and frustrations incurred by choosing Les Jones were deemed insurmountable, so we waited until we were able to start over. As we viewed Les Jones' dazzling array of luxury roofing photographs on this site, we wondered what happened with our, seemingly, easy and straight forward roofing job? As a result we will never allow another construction crew on our property without constant supervision and no sub-contracted non English speaking crews, ever. Les Jones talked big, but did not deliver their as-advertised products or services. Buyer beware.

My new rubber membrane roof is excellent; well beyond my expectations. Every Les Jones employee that worked at my house was professional, friendly and hard-working. Their pricing was very fair, especially considering the "extras" they did, such as re-securing antenna cables on another part of the roof and building special downspout funnels for my underground gutter drains. At my request, they also recommended other contractors for insulation and chimney repair, who turned out to be just as good as Les Jones. The only problem is that they are so busy it takes them a while to schedule new jobs, but they are well worth the wait, in the end result.

The cost was exactly what the bid came to. The roofers started the job earlier that was estimated. The roofers were at all times professional. The roofers showed up every day and worked to get the job done. The service was professional from beginning with the estimate to the completion of the job. The gutters were a specialty item for a clay tile roof. The gutters are two feet wide around the perimeter of the house. The old gutters, which were asphalt, had to be dug out and removed. Then the steel gutters were laid on the old structure. 3 layers of clay tiles had to be removed. Scaffolding were place around the entire house which is a two story house. The workers put up the scaffolding in one day. The next day the roofers were on the job. We are completely satisfied with the job. Thank you Les Jones! You are a quality company.

When the salesman came out (Steve Spaid) I tried to explain to him that due to our high deductible that we (the homeowner) would be paying for the roof and it wouldn't be an insurance job. Without ever stepping foot on my roof he proceeded to tell me I didn't need a new roof. He said he could tell from looking from the ground (3 stories up) that I didn't need a roof. I explained that the State Farm insurance adjuster said, we did. Finally, he started ilstening and decided we did need a new roof after all. I should have stopped there but since I had used Les Jones before I thought after I get past this guy the actual workers know what they are doing. Steve Spaid stilll never stepped foot on my roof. I gave him my State Farm roof diagram to use to put an estimate together. When I got the roofing contract, I called him back because it didn't have the 5 additional roof vents I told him I wanted (State Farm adjuster recommendation). I was told after I signed the contract AND gave them a !/3 down payment, I would be put on the schedule. I e-mailed the contract and mailed in my check ($6,348) on 9/26/2013. I was told by Steve that it would be about the end of October before they started my roof. My checked was cashed on 9/30/2013. At the end of October (10/30/2013) I called the Les Jones office to see where I was on the schedule because the weather had been nice and the other roofers in my neighborhood had only missed 1 day of work due to the weather. I talked to the Scheduler (Chris ?) and was told the salesmen had no authority to tell me a timeframe. It was only the Scheduler that could do that. I told him he had and his response was, "that has been a problem lately." I asked the Scheduler about the timeframe and he said they were scheduling into December. He asked for my phone # and said he would look into my job and give me a call back. TEN DAYS LATER, I hadn't gotten a call from anyone at Les Jones Roofing. I called the office to see why they hadn't bothered to call and was transfered to Steve Spaid's phone, He never picked up the phone but I left a voice message. About 20 minutes later I receive an e-mail from him (not a phone call) telling me I didn't get on the schedule until they received my roofing color on 10/18/2013. I could go on and on about this issue - let me just add Steve was on vacation twice between my getting the contract in and the roof color selected. I needed samples from them to make my selection. They are still on my porch awaiting pickup!

Response from Les Jones Roofing Inc
Les Jones Roofing has been in the business for more than 30 years in and around the Twin Cities. With the average tenure of more than 10 years for our employees, we continue to learn and grow individually and as a company. With that growing we need to accept fault when we do not come through as we should. With the recent hail storm we have received increased volume, which we need to schedule a couple weeks out. When there is a hail storm, we don’t contract out our extra work to crews we have never worked with, as we can’t ensure they will have the same top quality of workmanship we require and base our warranty on. The lack of communication and concise direction you deserved working with us wasn’t what you experienced. We strive to create open communication in harmony with clear information. I’m sorry you didn’t receive the Les Jones Roofing experience. We will take your feedback to correct errors in our process so that we can better serve our customers.
