We contacted Darin in late August, and he was working on another job so he didn't get back to meet with us until September. From the day we met and discussed the project until its completion, he returned all phone calls immediately, and we were able to rely completely on his word as far as a start date and completion. I have worked with so many contractors that tell you they will be there one day and it gets postponed again and again, or start on your job, and work on others at the same time, coming and going. This was not the case. Darin said it would take approximately a week to do the installation. He was there the day he said he would, and had all the cabinets made and ready to go to complete it. It did take one extra day, but that was due to some hardware issues that were not his fault. When we first met, we were thinking of white painted cabinets, and he was amenable to doing. However, he did have some thoughts, based on the style of our house and the existing cabinets. He showed us the bamboo, and I loved it, but then wasn't sure up until the installation. Now, I cannot say enough how beautiful it turned out. I really liked the fact that he was willing to give his professional opinion in a number of areas as we worked through the kitchen refacing. He was not forceful but was willing to say why another approach might be better. This was extremely helpful. One of the days he was there, I had to work when the new refrigerator was delivered. He assisted the delivery guys in getting it up the stairs, and took time to take some of the stickers off and even polished it up some so it would look good when I arrived. I can't say enough about what a standup guy he is and you would be very happy if he assisted in your kitchen project! You can also tell he has integrity which reflects on the whole project. I would give it an A+.
Description of Work: Darin refaced existing cabinets with bamboo doors and bamboo veneers. He also built entirely new drawer boxes, pullout shelves and one cabinet. Where there was an existing 60" wide pantry, he built an entirely new 30" pantry with pullouts and a 30" granite countertop piece with pullout drawers below and lighted cabinet above. It turned out fabulous!

We met Darren at the fall home show. We were impressed by the fact that he was the person doing the work, not a young girl selling for a big company, so we asked him to call us. He did get back to us in about a week. We then had him out to get an estimate, and that process went well. He had some good suggestions on how to improve our current design. Within a week we had a quote and from there we wrote him a check for 30% of the project. In the next several weeks we saw him 1 or 2 times for more measuring. About 5 weeks after we wrote the check the project really started. Darren came late mornings until about 6PM for 2 weeks and it was done. We were only without a sink for 5 days, it really went quite smooth. Darren was very courteous and always called before showing. The project ended on time, on budget and better than we had hoped. Could not be happier with the way things went.
Description of Work: Darren did a complete reface of our kitchen cabinets including new drawer boxes, fronts, 9 slide outs, and a custom cabinet/pantry from scratch. He also arranged for the new counter tops, we just had to pick them out, and he did all the rest.

We hired Kitchen Renovators after having quotes from Kitchen Renovators, and two major home improvement stores. One of the stores quote was over double Kitchen Renovators and did not include some of the work we had wanted done. The other store did not offer real wood products for the cabinet doors so we eliminated them with a no quote. Kitchen Renovators (ie Darrin Anderson) kept us well informed on the process he was using and the timeline for completion. His quality is second to none and his cleanliness was impressive during the whole process. He was genuinely concerned that he inconvenienced us to a very minimum. He constructed a pass through window between our kitchen and dining room which really opened up the two rooms. We would highly recommend Kitchen Renovators to anyone who is considering a kitchen remodel. His quality is price is outstanding.

A very positive encounter. Darin IS Kitchen Renovators, and he (rightfully) takes a great deal of pride in his work. Darin met with us promptly and we had a very interactive conversation about what we wanted, with Darin making lots of suggestions about options we could include in the refacing, like some additional cabinet work to enhance what was there, rollouts, etc. He showed us our options in refacing. It was easy to get excited about all the things we could do. Darin also provided us with a bid that was quite a bit lower than the one we accepted. I know from his reviews on Angie's List that Darin does fine work; we just chose to go with another company for a number of reasons, none of them Darin's fault -- though it might have helped some if we'd had his bid sooner than 7-8 days after his visit, as our other bidders all responded sooner after their visits. I'm sure we could have prodded him to be a little quicker, but our experience in hiring contractors in this post-housing-bubble economy is that many of them still are not very busy. We, however, do find it difficult to find the time to do such close tracking. I definitely would consider Darin for other remodeling in our house, though.

I regret that I can't give Kitchen Renovators higher ratings. Darin Anderson is very personable and does excellent cabinet work. However, my project had a few bumps in the road. I've been slowly updating the galley kitchen in my 1950's era house. I had already replaced the floor, had a combination pantry/desk built, replaced the old water pipes throughout the house with copper, and then purchased a new sink, faucet and countertops. After checking Angie's list, I contacted Kitchen Renovators (Darin Anderson) to install the countertops, which Darin estimated would cost about $500. On September 30th, the date of the scheduled work, Darin called to say that he would be about 30 minutes late. When he arrived, he made a lot of suggestions for improving the usefulness of my kitchen, and showed me photos of his previous work -- all of which were impressive, but many were out of my price range. After consideration, though, I did decide to go ahead with having an existing lower cabinet removed so that the dishwasher could be shifted closer to the sink, having Darin build a new cabinet with two rollout shelves and one drawer, and having two existing small drawers replaced with one larger one. With this additional work, Darin quoted a price of $1500. I gave him a deposit and he did some preliminary work that day. He said he would build the new cabinet and drawer and would contact me in a few weeks about installation. A month later, since I hadn't heard from him, I called Darin about scheduling the rest of the work. We set the appointment for Thursday, November 18th, at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. that day, I called Darin. He told me that he'd decided to work a home show at the last minute, and totally forgot our appointment. He offered to come over that same weekend, but I wasn't available. We agreed on Monday, December 6th, and I suggested I call him on Friday, the 3rd, to remind him (which I did). On Monday, Darin called to say that he'd be about 45 minutes late. As he was working that day, he stopped to answer quite a few cell phone calls, which set back the work schedule and ultimately delayed the plumber's work. Before leaving, Darin swept the floor but left sawdust in the drawers and cabinets. He hadn't given me a written estimate, and I specifically asked him for a receipt on 12/6, showing that I had paid in full. He didn't remember the actual numbers that he'd given me, so I looked up the amount of the check I had written for my deposit, and he rounded off numbers from there.
Description of Work: Darin Anderson installed my new kitchen countertops (which I purchased from another supplier), moved one of my existing lower cabinets to a different location, built a new cabinet with a drawer and two rollout shelves, and built a new drawer to replace two smaller drawers.

This was a great experience. I got several estimates but with Kitchen Renovators I also got ideas and suggestions -- using his professional experience to help me get an overall better product. He was on-time, with quality work. He'd missed some rework needed because of the new hinges but charged no extra money. He did such a good job that I actually increased what I paid him to cover some of that work. I have confidence that my kitchen will look and work great for years to come. Highest of recommendations!

We met Darin at the fall Home Show in Minneapolis. We liked his samples and his friendly attitude. He came over to give us an estimate in less than a week and started the work after the holidays as we requested. The cabinets and countertops were complete within 2 weeks, and the kitchen looks fabulous! We would definitely hire Darin again and recommend him to our friends.

Excellent! I would work with Darrin and his crew in a heartbeat. He gave me a bid to do countertops that was extremely well priced and as soon as I can afford it, I will have him do the work. After this experience, I wouldn't choose to work with anyone else. I was amazed at Darrin's attention to detail, the way he always left my kitchen spotless at the end of the workday and respectful and help he was to me. I appreciated how he always made sure to keep me aware of what he was doing and to ask me questions or point out options of challenges to me before they became an issue. This was worth it's weight in gold. With Darrin, I never walked into or found something unexpected. The cabinets he built for me were perfect. When I mentioned to him that I was planning to put in a wood floor at a later date, he told me that becuase of my plans, he would place the trim up higher than usual to accomodate new flooring later so that the trim would not have to be pulled off. He assured me that the quarter round would hide the height difference and it did. This is the kind of thing that Darrin did for me over and over. He is fussy, the good kind of fussy- he wants to do it right. I simply do not have enough good things to say, Kitchen Renovators has my highest recommmendation.
Description of Work: In the past, I have had experience completely gutting and renovating a kitchen in a 1920's home so I have worked with several kitchen contractors. For this smaller job in my new 1930's home, I had recieved bids from several contractors prior to learning about Kitchen Renovators. I knew I wanted to reface my cabinets in white and have a bit of custom work done at a reasonable cost but every contractor until Darrin tried to talk me out of white. Darrin listened to me and instead of trying to dissuade me, he told me the pro's and con's of each and came prepared with several options in white, one of which was exactly what I had in mind. I so appreciated that he never tried to talk me out of getting the kitchen I wanted. During his first visit, Darrin offered me several suggestions for solving the issue of my radiators under the sink and how to convert an open desk area into a desk and recycling space. He refaced all my cabinets (29 total), designed three new ones, added glass doors to create a bookshelf and re-did all the kitchen trim work.

Darin was extremely attentive to details. While doing an initial estimate he offered couple of excellent suggestions. During his work he was very precise in what he was doing. He also cleaned after himself. Darin even added couple of things at no charge. And he finished his job way before the deadline. I'm very pleased with his services. Will definitely hire him again.
