KEVIN OF ALL TRADES LLC

This handyman had performed services for me in the past which were satisfactory. I'm reviewing about my bad experience when I wanted to use him again the next year. I had an emergency situation in my bathroom. When I removed a panel from the wall in my shower I so I could paint the shower walls, I found out that the wall was partly missing and that the panel was hiding a bad situation I had not been aware of (old house, and I am a relatively new owner). The shower was unusable but I had guests coming in 7 days. I immediately called several handymen with good ratings in Angie's List saying I had a real emergency and a tight time limit. He was my first choice because of my previous experience. I described it all to his answering machine. He did not reply to that call for 4 days. His reply, which was recorded on my answering machine, was that he was probably the only handyman around who could handle the job, so he couldn't recommend anyone, and might be able to fit it in. By this time the job was almost finished by another handyman who did a terrific job. I was aware of his strong sense of himself from when he did work for me before. I didn't mind then because the work was good and he responded in time. This time, the same attitude left a bad taste. I wouldn't have minded if he couldn't do the job, but the word "emergency" means something to me. I do not understand him calling so much later without at least a "I'm sorry to be getting back to you so late." It is also a turn off that he had such a low opinion of his colleagues.

There had been an old gutter system integrated into the roof that hadn't been used for generations and the gutters shingled over. I got the gutterpipes removed during a paint job, but the painter said he wasn't really equipped for the job which would take some finessing (nothing up inside the holes on which the new stucco could attach itself) and advised me to get a handyman. Kevin did a great job with it, and now there are no holes for squirrels or other critters to get up inside my building. Kevin offered a flat hourly rate plus materials. Got the job done and cleaned up afterwards. I liked him and his work.

Kevin is a carpenter and handyman of the old school- everything done to perfection. Punctual, knowledgeable, and willing to go to any length to make sure the job is done well and permanently.

KEVIN SAID HE'D DO THE WORK ON MY FENCE, BUT DID NOT LOOK VERY HARD FOR THE PARTS. SAID THE RIGHT SIZE GATE WAS NOT AVAILABLE, BUT I FOUND ONE AT MENARDS. A SIMPLE JOB THAT SHOULD HAVE TAKEN LESS THAN A DAY HAS STRETCHED OUT TO 6 WEEKS OR MORE. I USUALLY HAVE SOMEONE WORK ON A SMALL JOB BEFORE DETERMINING IF I WANT TO HIRE HIM FOR LARGER ONES. I WILL NOT USE KEVIN IN THE FUTURE. I'VE NOW CONTACTED ANOTHER HANDYMAN WHO WILL GET THE WORK DONE RIGHT AWAY.

HE RAN INTO A PROBLEM WITH A MISSING PART IN THE PRE-PURCHASED FAUCET. HE MANAGED TO WORK AROUND THE MISSING PART TO MAKE IT WORK.
