I hired K2 to remodel my bathroom, living/dining room (including a hallway) and kitchen in my townhouse. When I contacted K2 (on a Saturday morning) I was impressed to get an email response promptly and also a phone call that same morning to schedule an appointment with their designer. I met with their designer at least two - three times. In the first meeting (2+ hours) we discussed how I used the space and changes I would like to see made. For me this included more counter space in the kitchen, removal of part of wall, walk in shower in bathroom and also removing the "popcorn type ceilings". Prior to the 2nd meeting I was provided with a new kitchen layout for review which we went over at our meeting (2+ hours). We also discussed/confirmed finishes, flooring, colors, etc. At the last meeting (2 hours), design/layout was confirmed, estimate and other details of the contract were discussed and I signed the contract. Work performed included: Kitchen/Living/ Dining area - Approximately 3 ft of a hallway wall was removed to provide for a better layout and traffic flow for the living/dining/kitchen areas. "Popcorn" type ceiling was removed and replaced with "knockdown". Flooring removed and replaced with cork flooring. Soffit in the kitchen was removed to provide room for more cabinet space. HVAC vent was moved, plumbing and electrical were moved and updated to accommodate the new design. Soundproof insulation was installed to the back wall of the kitchen and shared wall with the bathroom. New sheetrock was hung and prepped. New trim was installed in all rooms, new interior doors, recessed lighting (additional lights added). Custom cabinets with quartz countertops were installed which included soft close doors, a corner unit with upper and lower cabinet lazy susans, double sink, knobs and drawer pulls. K2 also painted all ceilings and walls, including my front closet that was not part of the remodel and was a nice surprise to have "refreshed." In addition, they came up with a creative solution to provide continuity of the flooring in my furnace/laundry room (small area) which looks great. Bathroom - they completely removed everything to the studs. The plumbing and electrical was updated, "popcorn" type ceiling was removed and replaced with "knockdown", sheetrock was hung and prepped. Tub/shower replaced with a tiled shower (to the ceiling), glass doors and floor was tiled. New custom vanity with granite counter top was installed, new sink and new fixtures. K2 also did all painting in this room. It is important to note, that while this remodel was going on I was recovering from knee surgery, in a full leg brace and living in the master bedroom (one of two rooms that were not part of the remodel). K2 was very, very accommodating to me during the remodel. I especially appreciated that they started and completed the bathroom first and quickly. Their workers were very professional, friendly, had a sense of humor and always cleaned up at the end of the day. Jon K. returned phone calls within the same day and was always pleasant and patient in answering my numerous questions and addressing any concerns. Although, my project was one of many they had underway, I was never made to feel that my project was any less important. In addition, he and his team also made great suggestions. The project came in on budget (which had been revised to accommodate 2 items I added after the signing of the initial contract). The end result is absolutely beautiful and far exceeded my expectations. Words alone cannot express my thanks to K2 for their designs, hard work, advice and suggestions in my remodel. THANK YOU!!!

See above. Excellent. Timely. Professional. Stephen was able to use his knowledge and experience to transform and update our bathroom.
Description of Work: After mold remediation was done by another company K2 was hired to do the remodeling of our bathroom. We briefly met with Chad and then Steven came out to actually do the design and oversee the work. Steven responded quickly to any questions or concerns and worked with us on the redesign of the bathroom. The individual workers (plumbers, tile, painters were all professionals). The work was done in a timely fashion and totally updated the bathroom. Definitely would hire again.

We used an Angie's List deal to start the ball rolling on our kitchen remodel. The 3D rendering of the kitchen was just OK. It was not as detailed as I expected.
K2 was very helpful with design ideas. They sketched a design and had several useful ideas for the tile work to make the main bath interesting. They provided an estimate the same day as the initial consultation. Their bid was comparable to two other bids we received. Their recommendations were consistent with the style and time period of our home. It took a while for the work to begin due to backlogs with some of their subcontractors (cabinets) and materials on backorder. They were always quick to respond when we made inquiries on scheduling progress. Once work began progress was fairly quick. Demolition happened fast. The rest of the project wasn't fast, but it wasn't excessively slow either. Overall, it took about as long as they initially predicted (7 weeks). The quality of the work is excellent. The tile work is superb. The cabinets and countertops look beautiful. The wainscoting is really distinctive and well-constructed and fit. They ran into several snags with old wiring and were upfront about the problems and costs to remediate. We feel much better knowing that all the wiring is now up to code. A few times we had some issues with the quality of some of the subcontractors and K2 was very responsive to the feedback. As the project was proceeding they floated ideas for how to save money to offset some of the overruns on wiring, which we appreciated. We changed our mind a few times on a couple of the design elements and they were patient and accommodating. If we ever add a bathroom to our house in the future we will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: We hired K2 to completely gut and remodel our main bathroom in our 1912 St. Paul home. We also hired them to do a facelift on an existing basement bathroom. In the main bathroom they tore out the existing tub, walls, floor, radiator, plumbing, fixtures, and electrical. They installed new tub, tile, electrical, plumbing, heated floors, wainscoting on the walls, custom vanity with double sinks, countertops, lighting, and fixtures. $31,000 In the basement bathroom they stripped existing wallpaper and pulled out existing vanity and countertops, and sink. installed new custom custom cabinet, vanity, countertop, fixtures, and painted. $5,000

Hey [member name removed]! Great looking bathroom. Thank you once again for you business. The wainscoting ended up being a great solution for both the laundry chute and the access panel. Plus it looks incredible next to the counter top we chose. Thanks for the review

The person scheduled a time to come out and was on time. However, he assumed that I was going to hire him for the kitchen remodel, tried to talk me into expensive unnecessary upgrades (such as rewiring my kitchen for $9000, when the only benefit would be an outlet for a dishwasher). He was friendly and professional however. The main problem that I have with them is that they never actually sent me the designs. He told me he would put together the bid and email me the designs in the next few weeks. I called months later to check on it. Someone got back to me, we played phone tag back and forth one round, and then they didn't return my call. In the end, I got nothing for my $50, and they didn't give me a refund or the designs.

This "Big Deal" was initiated at the urging of representatives from Angie's List. The language of "the deal" was imported from a service provider in another market that had had great success in generating actual remodeling contracts and customers from the program. In the first 2 weeks we were asked to visit with 32 people who wanted a drawing of a prospective remodel. With one kitchen designer on staff, this proved to be nearly impossible. Worst of all, when we received 8 on the first day, I called Angie's List to shut it down and was informed that the program could not be shut down and that we needed to let it run its course. We were unprepared for this volume. Each rendering takes 2-4 hours of work! This customer paid for a rendering and will receive it. The drawing is on file and the reason she hasn't gotten it yet, is because the email we were provided kept bouncing back. This is why we were playing telephone tag. Thank you for reviewing your experience with K2.

Steven was my main contact in the beginning. He came out with samples to do the estimate. That really helped me to visualize the project and helped me reduce the amount of time I spent agonizing over those decisions. He was personable and knowledgeable. I told him then that I would be meticulous and to factor that in if need be. He accepted that challenge. They worked fairly fast. I was in no rush although when your bathroom is out of commission, even though I did have another one, it gets tiring. Dave was the lead on the project when it was in full swing and he was a great guy to deal with. He was considerate and they cleaned up after themselves. The job was not perfect but what I appreciated was when I brought an issue up they agreed and fixed it in a very pleasant manner. You cannot ask for more than that. Now I have a beautiful bathroom that everyone who sees it ooos and ahhs over. I am very happy with the finished product and I appreciate how the process went.

K2 did a very nice job. The initial consultation was very good -- they really tried to get a good sense as to what we were looking for, and offered us a quote on the spot. They were accommodating when we decided mid-stream to go from simply doing the shower to doing the rest of the work in the bathroom. One of the best things about K2 was the subcontractors they work with -- both Luke and Jeff are TOP-NOTCH. Their work product is beautiful, and they struck a great balance between deferring to the homeowner, yet helping to "shepherd" us away from bad decisions that we'd likely regret later on. They were very respectful of our house and did their best to minimize the interruption to our lives that comes with a major bathroom remodel. We couldn't be happier with Jeff and Luke. The only hiccup was near the end when one of the pieces of glass was miscut by the glass provider -- at the same time our original contact at K2 moved on to another job and we received a replacement contact. He did a good job overall bringing the project to the finish line, they did not do as good a job as we would have liked at keeping us informed as to the status of the corrected glass piece (Luke did install a temporary piece so that we could use the bathroom without having to wait even longer which was fantastic). When there were a few final fit & finish details at the end, K2's rep came out and fixed them personally, which was great. Overall, we'd consider using them again in the future and are VERY happy with the finished bathroom.
Description of Work: K2 did a near-full bathroom remodel of our master bathroom. They removed our old pre-fab shower insert and a wall, rerouted electricity to the outer wall and plumbing to the other wall, completely tiled the shower (extending it by an additional 12 inches), tiled around the whirlpool tub, installed a tile baseboard, replaced the plumbing fixtures on the tub and in the shower as well as the towel bars and hooks, replaced the vanity lights, and painted the entire bathroom. We also tiled the floor in the main level bathroom (replacing linoleum).

Took more time than expected. Only had one bathroom which I told them so I needed it done right away. Finally hired another contractor to do the job. I would hire the other contractor to do work for me next time but not K2Bath people. Initial meeting was good with them when setting up work and materials I wanted to use. After that not so good. Prices for materials was way over bid. Some things were 4 and 5 times what it cost if I had bought it myself.

This customer had a bath/shower combo that was positioned on an outside wall. The roof above it was damaged by a storm and the tile walls had to be replaced. The bathing system was essentially unusable when we arrived to put a proposal together. We did our best to expedite the lead time for this customer because it was her only shower, we gave this customer hope that the job could be completed in under a week if everything went well. It didn't. There were a few speed bumps along the way. Nothing that alarmed us, but the job took slightly over a week. This project demanded the following operations: a surgical demolition that left the rest of the bathroom ready for paint, re-framing and insulating the outside wall, new subfloor, new tub, new drain and overflow, new valve and trim kit, cement board, porcelain tile, bullnose trim work, decorative accent tile, and if memory serves me (this was in 2011) the customer provided a shower door that we installed. Bottom line is that $7000 is a very competitive price for a brand new bathing system. A typical standard bathroom core remodel costs around 12-14K in the Twin Cities. Doesn't it make sense that the majority of the cost would be wrapped up in the bathing area? The floor, toilet, vanity and painting cost about 5-6K and the bathing system costs 6-8K. The craftsman that we hired to do this work on our behalf did an outstanding job. So did the plumber. I understand why it is easy to look at the subs as a great value and the general as unnecessary after the job is complete, but when you're faced with the challenge of pulling a reliable, trustworthy, capable team of people together to have a bathroom remodeled (the hardest room in the house), hundreds of people in Minnesota have turned to K2 Bath Design. The reason we are so good at what we do, at least in part, is that we have established a roster of subcontractors and employees that understand how to work with us, the materials we specify, our customers and each other. They are US. K2 IS a collection of craftsmen, tradesmen and designers. The guys we sent to this customers home are our guys and even though this review was written in 2011, the crew that did this project still relies upon K2 for around 75% of the work they do throughout the year and we still rely upon them to do great work for our customers. Upon final analysis, I am thrilled to have this platform to advertise the fact that my craft and trade partners did a great job for you. I am also thrilled to share with the world that a bathing system can cost as little as $7000 dollars to install, even if there is some structural repair that needs to happen first. Thank you for your business, thank you for the review and please let us know if there is anything we can do to help in the future.

Nobody showed for the first appointment that I had scheduled, but when I did get to meet with Jonathan, he was very thorough and patient, talking me through the different options for remodeling my kitchen. He also offered to discount the price of the remodeling project a bit to make up for not keeping the original appointment. Best of all, he did not try to pressure me to commit to contracting with them to do the remodeling project right then and there; no "this is the only day I can give you this price" BS. I really, really appreciate that in a company, and that alone will make me consider K2 first when I'm ready to go ahead with my remodeling project!

Thank you for your review. I am sorry we had to re-schedule the first appointment. When this "big deal" was first offered, we got inundated with requests. I got 32 in 2 weeks! We are a great design and remodeling company, but I only have one kitchen designer on staff and he was a busy beaver trying to get to everyone and still meet his other obligations. I am glad you like the rendering and hope to work with you on the actual project.

The drawing done by K2 Bath & Kitchen Remodeling was nice, but a little uninspired. But they were perfectly nice. I probably want to do something a little more intricate. They were nice and professional. They were on time. If you're looking for a basic remodel, they would be good. I didn't get a ton of creativity out of it.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's Big Deal to get a design layout of the remodeling of our kitchen. I made an appointment for them to come by as soon as I purchased the Big Deal, but they cancelled it, because they had double booked. I want to say it was within three weeks that I saw them. I just paid the price of the Big Deal. There were no extra charges.

Hi (removed member name). Thank you for the review. I spoke with Jonathan about your project, it sounds like a nice direct replacement job and more or less perfect for us. I hope that you'll give us an opportunity to review the product options with you in more detail, I think you will find that most of the creative energy and detail is focused on that portion of the design process as opposed to the rendering. The primary purpose of the rendering is to help the customer visualize the layout. Because your job was more or less a direct replacement, the rendering is largely unhelpful in this regard. But, the rendering did help us assemble the building blocks of the job, which is necessary to create a proposal. If you would like to do the more intricate design work with us, I would love to have another opportunity to review the finishes with you and help pull the project together.

We had already 5 estimates for the mater bathroom. We met K2 at the Metrodome home show to get more ideas. K2 was not the high or the low. I was going to do the smaller main bath myself but Stephen quoted me a price where they would do both bathrooms for the price of the Master for some of my other estimates. I had ideas some and he listened but he added more suggestions. I had a couple estimates after K2 came by. I called Stephen and I told him we were going to use them. We met a couple of days later to discuss the details and sign a contract. I had already picked out some tile at the tile store before we met with K2. But Stephen suggested I look at his samples. He even added a splash wall around the tub with an accent strip that looks great. Work began in 3 weeks. There was a couple snow storms that cancelled 2 days of work but it was completed 3 weeks later. They even came in on a couple of Saturdays if we were Okay with it. Cleanup was completed after each work day. We are thinking about doing some kitchen and basement remodeling in the near future and K2 will be the first on our list to call.

This "Big Deal" was initiated at the urging of representatives from Angie's List. The language of "the deal" was imported from a service provider in another market that had had great success in generating actual remodeling contracts and customers from the program. Upon final analysis, even though we were able to secure 2 very nice projects from the deal, I regret running it. It seems that in a few cases, the overall expectation of what a 3D rendering is supposed to convey and include was a bit inflated relative to our offering and has perhaps underwhelmed some of the folks who had us out. Our policy is to NEVER over promise and in this case, the language of "The Big Deal" has led to 3 sub par ratings on the Angie's List site. This obviously has attracted my attention. Although most of the people who purchased this offer are satisfied with the outcome, there were a handful of customers, who like yourself, had expectations that were misaligned with what was actually delivered. These renderings are only intended to give customers an opportunity to visualize a potential re-configure of their space and give our designer the opportunity to create an accurate price proposal for the remodel. Many of the 3D renderings that are seen on HGTV for instance (this is only an example, I don't mean to imply that this is your specific issue with our service, I only wish to acknowledge that this has proven to be a re-occurring problem. Google "the HGTV effect") , look like independent works of art. The HGTV drawings, for the purpose of creating a rewarding television experience, are typically created after the remodel is complete and understandably represent an unbelievable degree of fidelity. Unfortunately, because we are always rendering a hypothetical remodel as opposed to a contracted remodel, we cannot afford to dedicate the time required to produce a drawing of that caliber. I am sorry that the deliverables of "The Big Deal" did not meet your expectations. We are a truly exceptional remodeling company and work very hard to create a positive experience for everyone we encounter

Our bathroom is the best room of the house now thanks to K2! We live in a 1950s house and of course, we had the original bathroom to go with it - complete with old white, thick tile that required a massive jack hammer to tear through it. Completely tired of the old tub, we decided to upgrade to a full shower that not even the W hotel could compete with. Our bathroom is teeny tiny, but somehow K2 found a way to maximize the space and allow me to have a custom vanity with great storage! Our new door is absolutely beautiful and I can tell the rest of the 7 doors in our house are completely jealous of its beauty. From the initial consultation with Chad (who immediately makes you feel comfortable and excited about your project) to the execution with Jon as the project manager, I felt like I was taken care of the whole time. Almost every evening I would receive an update on how things went for the day and any questions that they had for me. But really what I loved was that they were able to understand my vision for the project and make recommendations that were spot on. I have been through many remodeled homes over the past few years and I can say with certainty that K2 bath design has the best execution out of anyone I've seen - the craftsmanship is superb. I would recommend their team without hesitation and look forward to the next project I can work on with them!

Thanks [member name removed]. You and [other member name removed] were great to work for. I will be putting some of these photos on my website. The utilization of space was particularly effective on this project and I want as many people as possible to see it.

definitely consider them for the final work when i get close to picking out a firm to do this. I would definitely recommend them for this design/consultation visit though if you're looking for great ideas.
Description of Work: I purchased an Angie's List Super Deal for 3D modeling for my kitchen remodel. The sales/designer that came to the house was great. He was able to capture all my ideas and recommend many options to me that I hadn't thought of. I will

Good communication and responsive to my needs and ideas. I had been considering this project for a couple of years and Jonathan helped bring it together in to an actual rendering. I had a budget and it was not exceeded while still using quality products, finishes, and labor. While I won't be using K2 for the actual project due to timing, I definitely was satisfied with their work and will consider them for future projects.
Description of Work: Purchased a $49 Angie's List Big Deal to get kitchen drawings. Had two meetings at my home and exchanged a a few emails with designer.

Well I wasn't that impressed with the output and perhaps they will schedule a return visit in the near future to discuss it. I didn't think that what I received was worth the $50 that went to Angie's List. It certainly wasn't worth the $500 advertised value of this service. I feel like I paid $50 to give a remodeler a lead to a possible contract.
Description of Work: I purchaased the "Big Deal" for a 3D design of my Kitchen. A day after I purchased it from Angie's List, I was called to schedule the appointment. I was surprised and impressed that I was contacted so quickly. It was interesting that person that scheduled the appointment with me, tole me twice that Angie's List gets the $50 not them. The designer showed up exactly on time - again I was surprised and impressed. He asked a lot of questions as he looked over our current layout. I felt like these questions should have been sent to us before the visit so we could have had time to think them over. So it ended up that I didn't feel prepared. He did a thorough job at looking the house and even had us look at cabinet styles and counter tops. A week and a half later I get two 3D renderings of a proposed layout and one floorplan layout in an email.

Firstly, I'd like to acknowledge that this program was definitely meant to generate leads that would lead to contracts. I hope that this realization does not offend anyone. Secondly, our 3D renderings usually vary in complexity and frequently require several hours of computer work. However, it is also true that many renderings are less complicated and do not demand nearly that much time and energy. Thirdly: On the issue of expectations...This "Big Deal" was initiated at the urging of representatives from Angie's List. We are a truly exceptional remodeling company and work very hard to create a positive experience for everyone we encounter. Please let me know if there is anything we can do to make it up to you. Poorly, did not provide the services advertised, and did not indicate that they were only interested in major costly remodels. I would suggest that people who are interested in big buck remodels might be satisfied, other do not use this company
Description of Work: The deal was advertised to provide 3D sugsupplier was Jonthan Honerbrgestions for my Kitchen. The provides rep Jonathan Hornerbrink provided no help. When I gold him I was interested in spending between 10 an 15 K, he said he could not help me. He said that I needed to spend 25 K. I was clear that he was not interested in providing me with ideas and drawings of possibilities for improving the lay out of my space. I needed to spend big bucks for a total makeover. He left me with nt reasonable ideas for my kitchen. He did leave with any drawing as possible. It is clear that this company is interested in only extensive remodels.

Hi [member name removed], At K2, we know the value of a dollar, and while there is no doubt that 15000 is a lot of money, there is only so much that can be accomplished with that budget. A kitchen re-configure requires the services of: 2 carpenters, a plumber, an electrician, an hvac tech, a granite fabricator, a cabinet maker, a tile setter, a flooring installer, a project manager, a designer, a salesperson and city inspector. All of these participants require payment. While much can be done in a kitchen for 15,000, it is not possible to render a reconfigure that falls into that budget. I am sorry we had to be the bearer of bad news. Best of luck to you.
