James Whelan's Urban Treecare

I have used Urban Treecare for the last six to eight years. My neighbors have also used him as they have seen his work when Urban Treecare is at my house. Four years ago I was looking for an oak tree for my yard and Jim Whelan, Urban Treecare owner searched for a White Oak at tree farms and found one and Urban Treecare planted the oak at my house. He is excellent to work with, but is in great demand. He also does storm damage clean up. I highly recommend Urban Treecare.

We spoke with Jim Whelan about what we wanted done, and he came by and left us a proposal. When we finally got back to him, he was able to set us up to do the job the next day, which was great. Dain and his assistant cut down the dead apple tree first, and then started trimming back the two pine trees. They were helpful in advising how much to trim back without harming the trees, and we are happy with the final result. One of the trees was growing over the garage roof, and Dain trimmed that back and his assistant helped to clear the branches and then blew off the needles and debris. They carried out all of the debris (and put it through the chopper) and also raked the yard to clean everything up. Our back yard looks SO much better now with the trees trimmed and shaped. We would not hesitate to ask them back again. They were easy to work with and understood what we wanted done.

Jim was doing work for a neighbor across the street. I checked online with Angie's List and the BBB sites with both showing positive reviews. I went out to talk to him as he was working on my neighbor's trees and asked if he would have time after finishing that job to trim my trees. He was very professional (e.g. polite, knowledgable, conscientious, etc.) After completing the neighbor's job, he came over to ask if I wanted an estimate/bid which he gave me on the spot (significantly lower than a previous estimate from the one a different arborist had given me for the same work last year) and said he could complete to work that day. He wrote up the actual bid, and went to work. The trees look great. He took super care and consulted me on specific details regarding how much and where I wanted him to trim. He was very competent using the "cherry picker" boom and took care to protect the front yard from damage from the truck. He was very knowledgable regarding tree health and maintenance. While he was working on my trees, my next door neighbor came over to ask if he could trim a few branches from an ash tree over her patio. He completed that work to her satisfaction as well. All in all, a very good day for Jim picking up work and a very good day for his clients. After disappointing results from three previous arborists, I will definitely use Jim Whelan's Urban Treecare again!

Jim provided an estimate within a few days of my request for me. He stopped by and left the estimate in my door. We scheduled the work which required waiting until the oak was no longer actively growing but entering dormancy. Jim called the day before he would be starting the work. It took two days to complete the project. Jim called me at the end of their second work day to let me know that the work was done and to let me know about the health of the trees. When I returned home all the debris had been taken away. The tree trimming looks great and I no longer worry about limbs and branches falling into the yard, and the front yard sod removal went well. I don't use chemicals on the yard and it had turned into mostly weeds. I asked Jim to remove the turf so that I could put down new dirt, starter fertilizer and seed. Jim told me how much turf had been removed so that I had an idea of how much dirt to order. Jim gave me an estimate for doing that additional work but I had already planned to do it myself. It turned out that my expenses for the front yard dirt, seed, and fertilizer were very close to the estimate that Jim had given me for having his team do the work which would have also included their labor. Jim left the invoice for me and I paid it by mail.

He was excellent. He was just extremely nice.

They have been excellent. They are very professional and knowledgeable. I have been happy with them and would use them again.

They showed about as promised about two hours after I contacted them, and they took care of it on the spot. It was a relief to get the branch quickly and safely out of the tree. The two man crew did a swift job of the work, and they tidied up nicely.

I had a very good experience. I got all & more of what I wanted cost trimmed. I received some education about how tree are trimmed. James and his helper communicated. He had a 55' bucket boom all the right equipment He brought at my request all his paper to see because insurance, tree certification I had written proposal & business cards.

EXCELLENT JOB, PROVIDED A PROPOSAL ONE DAY AFTER CALL. WE CALLED TO HIRE JIM AND HE RETURNED THE CALL THE SAME DAY AND DID THE WORK ON THE SAME DAY. VERY NICE AND EXTREMELY PROMPT. THE JOBS WERE DONE WELL AND AREAS CLEANED UP NICELY.

JAMES WORKED WITH BOTH THE CITY AND THE ELECTRIC COMPANY TO PROMPTLY SCHEDULE NECESSARY ASSISTANCE THROUGHOUT THE JOB. EXCELLENT COMMUNICATIONS ON SCHEDULE CHANGES WHEN WEATHER CAUSED DELAYS. GOOD JOB OF CLEAN UP. VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND SKILLED WORKMAN.
