+ -1 moreNo service done because Jack didn't ever show up. Twice. I should have learned the first time he promised to come over to do the work. I gave him a second chance, and the same thing happened and he didn't show or even give me a courtesy call. He seems like a nice enough guy but don't count on his word.
Description of Work: Needed to sink a few posts and then attach 5-6 sections of fence to the posts.

+ -1 moreI got three estimates and Jack's was the best. They started working on the fence about two weeks later. They worked just about every afternoon for the next three weeks. They aren't fast but they are careful, and the work shows it. Jack and Matt are fine people and easy to work with. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Jack and his son Matt built a fence and three gates in our backyard. We wanted to follow the unusual design of our neighbor's fence and they did a fantastic job. Matt is meticulous and his work shows it.

Description of Work: Jack and Matt dug the post holes and installed cedar fence posts. We're building the fence ourselves to save money, plus we enjoy it.

He honestly told us what he saw as drawbacks in what we were planning. We opted not to replace the section. I appreciated his honesty about not wanting us to spend money on a cosmetic but unnecessary project. As well, I enjoyed his quirky sense of humor and warm personality.

+ -1 moreJack and his partner were always early and worked tirelessly. They did excellent work. They asked lots of questions to make sure they were constructing what we wanted. We were extremely pleased. Both men were very friendly. They also paid close attention to my flower gardens and made sure not to damage anything during the work.
Description of Work: Picket fence on a large corner lot backyard. Required three new gates, too. They removed the old rotted fence and built an entirely new fence.

+ -1 moreI was repeatedly having to point out errors before they were fixed. He complained that the material I specified in the plans I drew up, were a bit heavier than what he wanted to use. (I referenced the plans from our existing deck, in my spec).I would have liked to not find errors to begin with, like uneven board heights on deck surface. My deck is still uneven (1/2 inch higher, some boards.)I will wait until spring and have my dad sand it down level, if that is even possible. I was disappointed, because I expected him to have his own professional integrity and take pride in making sure all finished surfaces were level.
Description of Work: Jack was prompt in giving estimate to add additional 125 sq. Ft. Plus railing to my existing deck. I told Jack that my city (St. Louis Pk) probably requires a permit and he said he could do it without it. I said no, I want it done right. So he said I would have to get it and did not offer to do it for me. I did not understand that that was his way of putting the responsibility of drawing up all of the detailed plans, on me. This delayed the job, caused me to take 2 full days off work back and forth between zoning and building inspectors. The city required plans showing detailed design of addition and footings, type & weight of material, etc. I am not a builder so this was difficult to say the least. The deck boards are not completely level. Today the deck addition looks ok, but I had to put in too much work and asked for, but received no discount off the price for my effort and time.

HE IS A PRO AT HIS CRAFT AND A REAL GENTLEMAN WITH A WONDERFUL SENSE OF HUMOR. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND JACK AS HE IS VERY DEDICATED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND QUALITY WORK.

HE RECOMMENDED PRESSURE TREATED PINE VS. COMPOSITE DECKING DUE TO PRICE AND DURABILITY. THEY DID A GREAT JOB ON THE DECK AND A FABULOUS JOB HAND-CRAFTING A REMOVABLE RAIL AROUND A WINDOW WELL. WE WOULD RECOMMEND CARLYLE HIGHLY.

HE EVEN WENT TO HOME DEPOT AND BROUGHT ME A SAMPLE OF THE SYNTHETIC MATERIAL I WAS THINKING ABOUT USING ON THE PORCH SO THAT I COULD COMPARE IT TO CEDAR WOOD. HE SEEMED REASONABLE IN HIS ESTIMATE AND THOUGH THERE WERE SOME DELAYS IN GETTING THE PORCH DONE ( ILLNESS) IT WAS COMPLETED FAIRLY PROMPTLY. MY CONCERN IS THAT SINCE THEN THE MOLDING ON 2 AREA ON THE PORCH HAS COME UNDONE AND WHEN I CALLED JACK, HE SEEMED RETICENT TO SET A DATE/TIME TO COME OUT AND FIX IT. HE HAD USED ME AS A REFERENCE ON 2 OTHER JOBS AND ASSURED ME THAT IF THERE WERE ANY PROBLEMS HE WOULD BE SURE TO RESPOND. HE SAID HE WOULD CALL ME THIS WEEK SO I WILL WAIT TILL FRIDAY TO HEAR FROM HIM.
