Holmlund Masonry Inc

Once we had signed and faxed our contract, we were promptly given a date the work would be performed. A crew arrived the day before the work was to start to set-up scaffolding etc. We placed a call to Holmlund regarding our previous concern, which was returned promptly. We were told the job would be finished by the Thursday afternoon and arrangements were made for our check to be picked up the next morning by 9:00 am. Our yard was left in good shape as well.

It took three phone calls to get someone out for an estimate, but once that was done, the work was started in a couple of days. The worksite was cleaned up afterwards.

Their page on Angie's List includes an email address. I sent an email on Sept. 21, asking for an estimate for chimney repair. I never received any reply, not even the courtesy of a "sorry, we're not interested in your little job" response. I suppose it's possible their email program thought my inquiry was spam. But if you're running a business where it can be expected you'll get emails from strangers, you should still check messages marked as junk. And if you publish an email address, you should check it often and reply to every honest inquiry.

Tim Holmlund responded promptly to a request for a bid and offered sound advice. His crew was efficient, very competent, and respectful of my property. I was afraid my 1950s chimney would look patched, but they did an excellent job of matching the existing mortar.

Job 1: Tim was very responsive to our phone calls and maintained good communication throughout. He and his crew were on time and his crew were amiable and professional. He had a large crew that worked hard. While this was a large amt. of money for me to spend for a job, I realize it was a really big job and required a lot of work. Some of the inside foundation was crumbling and the crew carefully removed the stones entirely and replaced them with concrete. They cleaned up well and did a really good job! This is the third job I have hired this company for. Job 2: The crew was able to get out and do the job just a few days after I asked for a bid. This was great. They worked very well and efficiently. The space looks very nice! This is the 4th time I have hired this company.

I called them after a week to see where the estimate was, and they didn't have one. I told them to forget it.

I received several bids for tuck-pointing and only one bid offered to grind and tuck-point every single mortar joint on the home's foundation. Initially, Holmlund was only offering to grind and tuck-point "where necessary." When I called and asked Tim Holmlund to meet up with me in person to walk around the home and discuss the bid and project in detail, he did not hesitate to schedule a time that was convenient for me. Tim was very knowledgeable and courteous. After we met, I called to ask if Holmlund would be willing to increase the service level of their initial bid (to include grinding and tuck-pointing every joint) for the same price as the competitor. Not only did Tim match the competitor's bid, but he actually beat it by $100! Tim's crew was out within 2 days of my acceptance of the new bid and spent almost 3 full days doing the work, which looks beautiful! Holmlund's 5-year guarantee beat out all of the other competitor's guarantees and was, truly, the icing on the cake!

I received several bids for this project. Not only was Holmlund Masonry's bid very competitive, but it was the only bid that offered a full 5-year guarantee on all labor and material. Tim Holmlund was extremely patient during my lengthy decision-making process and even offered to meet with me in person, at my convenience, to discuss the project in detail. Tim was extremely courteous and knowledgeable about his trade. As an old home ''purist,'' I was pleased that Tim did not push for a full tear down and re-build of the home's beautiful, original, 100-year old chimney (as a few of the contractors that I spoke with did) but, rather, felt that the chimney was in good enough condition to be fully restored. Holmlund did a beautiful job and the chimney looks like new. I am very impressed and would recommend Tim and his crew to anyone looking to have this same service done. That 5-year guarantee is a real bonus!

Holmlund responded promply and gave us a reasonable quote. No other company even called us back. Hired Holmlund on Tuesday evening and 8:30am the next day, they arrived to do the chimney repair. They were polite, quick, and did a wonderful job. They did an extra small patch job without being asked.

I was very pleased with the end result of the work. Though our brick is no longer available, they made a match that looks really nice. The supervisor kept in daily contact with me and let me know when there was a brief delay in completing the work. Though they were a little more expensive than a couple of the other bids we got, it was worth it for the service and quality we received. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who needed this type of work.

TIM WAS ON TIME, ACTUALLY CAME THE SAME DAY FOR A BID WHEN HE REALIZED THAT WE ONLY HAD ONE DAY FOR THE HOME INSPECTION. HE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO THE REALTOR WHO WAS AT THE HOME, THEN CONTACTED ME BY PHONE TO EXPLAIN IT ALL AGAIN. HE AGREED TO SEND A BID TO ME BY MAIL. IF WE TAKE POSSESSION OF THE HOME, WE WILL CERTAINLY CONSIDER USING THIS COMPANY!

THEY WERE MORE EXPENSIVE AND NOT AS ACCOMMODATING AS THE COMPANY I WENT WITH.

VERY PLEASANT AND PROMPT. THEY SUGGESTED WE REBUILD THE TOP FEW FEET AND TUCKPOINT THE REST. JUST DECIDED TO GO WITH ANOTHER COMPANY WHO SUGGESTED REBUILDING THE ENTIRE CHIMNEY, RATHER THAN A COMBINATION OF TUCKPOINTING AND REBUILDING.

OUR UNHAPPINESS STARTED WHEN IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO LEARN WHEN THEY WOULD BEGIN. AFTER MANY PHONE CALLS, ONE WAS RETURNED. WE EXPECTED A CALL THE DAY BEFORE THEY WERE TO BEGIN- DID NOT HAPPEN. WE HAPPENED TO BE HOME THE DAY THE TRUCK PULLED UP. THE CONCRETE WORK CREW HAD NOT LOOKED AT THE DESIGN OF THE STEPS BEFORE HAND AND DID NOT BRING THE CORRECT FORMS FOR ONE PART OF THE STEPS. WE WERE TOLD THEY COULD ADJUST THIS AFTER, WHICH THEY DID, HOWEVER, THERE IS A SEAM/SMALL CRACK AT TWO PLACES WHERE THEY HAD MADE THEIR MISTAKE. THEY MADE TWO OTHER MISTAKES, WHICH MEANT ADDITIONAL CONCRETE REPLACED AT THEIR COST, NOT OURS. THEY DID NOT CLEAN UP WELL, LEAVING WET CONCRETE ON THE LAWN THAT HARDENED AND HAD TO BE DUG UP AND THE GRASS REPLACED AT OUR COST. THE BRICK WORK ON THE BUTTRESSES WAS DONE VERY WELL EXCEPT--ALTHOUGH IT IS LEVEL, ONE IS HIGHER THAN THE OTHER BY TWO INCHES. IT TOOK ANOTHER 6-8 WEEKS BEFORE THE TUCK POINTING WAS COMPLETED WITH VIRTUALLY NO COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMPANY.

I RECEIVED AN ESTIMATE IN A TIMELY MANNER, WE NEGOTIATED PRICE AND AGREED UPON THE AMOUNT PAID. THEY WERE ABLE TO START JOB QUICKLY AT THE TIME I REQUESTED, AND THE THREE MEN WORKING ON THE LARGE PLANTER WORKED HARD, TOOK CARE AROUND MY PLANTS, PUT IN THE NEW PLANTER, AND CLEANED THE AREA AS IF THEY WEREN'T EVEN THERE! HOLMLUND MASONRY IS AN EXCELLENT COMPANY TO WORK WITH. I WOULD USE THEM FOR MY NEXT PROJECT, AND THE NEXT, AND THE NEXT!!

OUR EXPERIENCE WITH THEM WAS OKAY AND THEY DID GOOD WORK. PRIOR TO THE WORK WE COLLECTED 5 BIDS, HOLMLUND'S WAS ONE OF THE TWO MORE EXPENSIVE BIDS BUT THEY CORRECTLY IDENTIFIED THAT THE FIREBOX NEEDED A TOTAL REBUILD AND NOT JUST TUCK-POINTING. THE SCHEDULING OF THE WORK WAS A BIT OF A PROBLEM AND THE CREW SCHEDULED TO DO THE FIREBOX WORK WAS 3 AND A HALF HOURS LATE AND HAD TO COME BACK A SECOND DAY TO FINISH UP. THAT BEING SAID THEY DID A GOOD JOB OF CLEANING UP THEIR WORK AND LEFT OUR PROPERTY IN GOOD SHAPE. THE WORKERS WERE PROFESSIONAL AND QUALIFIED. MY COMPLIMENTS GO OUT TO REFUGIO AND MATT IN PARTICULAR.

LAME. I WOULD NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. THEY COULDN'T EVEN GET A BID TO ME WITH 2 CHANCES TO DO SO.

THE PERSON I TALKED TO ON THE PHONE WAS VERY NICE AND THE BID WAS PUT TOGETHER CLEARLY. IT SEEMED LIKE IT TOOK A WHILE TO GET THE ESTIMATE, THOUGH. I WAS HOPING TO HAVE IT IN LESS THAN A COUPLE OF WEEKS. IF WE WERE STAYING AT THE HOUSE, WE MIGHT HAVE CHOSEN HOLMLUND. I SEE THEIR SIGNS AROUND AND HAVE SEEN SOME OF THEIR WORK THAT APPEARS TO BE WELL DONE. I THINK THE PRICE SEEMED FAIR FOR WHAT THEY WERE OFFERING TO DO - ALTHOUGH I HAVEN'T GOTTEN OTHER BIDS ON ENTIRE REPLACEMENTS.

COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE DID NOT SHOW UP FOR OUR FIRST MEETING TO DISCUSS THE JOB AND PROVIDE AN ESTIMATE. I CALLED THE OFFICE AND THEY APOLOGIZED AND WE RESCHEDULED. THEY WERE PROMPT FOR THE SECOND MEETING, AND WE HAD A GOOD DISCUSSION. UNFORTUNATELY, IT THEN TOOK THEM ALMOST TWO WEEKS TO GET ME AN ESTIMATE (I HAD TO CALL THE OFFICE ONCE OR TWICE TO INQUIRE OF THE STATUS; OTHER COMPANIES HAD THEIR ESTIMATES TO ME IN 2 BUSINESS DAYS). THEIR PRICE OF $4400 WAS AT THE HIGH END OF THE THREE ESTIMATES I RECEIVED (LOW $3500, HIGH $4500). THEIR ESTIMATE WAS WELL WRITTEN AND PROFESSIONAL BUT THEIR POOR RESPONSIVENESS OVERSHADOWED EVERYTHING ELSE.

GREAT WORK, QUICK RESPONSE, VERY HAPPY. DID MORE THAN I EXPECTED

HOLMLUND PROVIDED A VERY COMPETITIVE BID ON A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO THE REPAIRS. OTHER BIDDERS PROPOSED REPAIRING THE TOP TWO FEET OF THE CHIMNEY, REPLACING EIGHT FEET OF FLUE TILE AND REPLACING THE CAP. A MAJOR EXPENSE ITEM WAS REMOVING AND REPLACING THE CRACKED FLUE TILES. HOLMLUND RECOMMENDED REMOVING, THEN REBUILDING THE ENTIRE CHIMNEY ABOVE THE ROOF LINE. THIS ALLOWED THEM TO EASILY REPLACE THE FLUE TILES (A MAJOR PART OF THE WORK). BY SALVAGING AND REUSING THE GOOD BRICK AND FINDING A NEARLY IDENTICAL REPLACEMENT BRICK, YOU CAN'T SEE ANY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NEW TOP AND OLD BOTTOM PART OF THE CHIMNEY. I WAS VERY PLEASED OVERALL. I DO WISH THEY HAD BEEN BETTER ABLE TO FORECAST WHEN THE WORK WAS TO BE DONE. THEY DID THE WORK WHILE I WAS ON VACATION. I PREFER TO BE HOME WHEN WORKMEN ARE WORKING ON MY PROPERTY. ON THE POSITIVE SIDE, THEIR REPAIR JOB WAS SO INVISIBLE, I HAD TO LOOK AT THE CHIMNEY SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE I SAW THAT THE CHIMNEY WAS ACTUALLY REBUILT.

THERE WAS A MINOR GLITCHES BUT DID GOOD WORK. THE CHIMNEY LOOKS REALLY NICE. THIS WAS A VERY LABOR INTENSIVE JOB. THEY WERE HERE FROM 9 AM - 6PM. I WOULD USE THEM AGAIN.

HOMLUND CAME OUT WITHIN A COUPLE DAYS AND GAVE US A WRITTEN BID. THEIR BID WAS THE MOST PROFESSIONAL OF THE THREE THAT WE RECEIVED.

THEY WERE VERY NICE TO WORK WITH. THEY KNEW I WAS GETTING 3 OR 4 BIDS, AND CALLED BACK TO SEE IF I HAD COMPLETED THEM. WHEN I TOLD THEM I HAD A LOWER BID THEY WENT BELOW THAT BID. I DEFINITELY WOULD RECOMMEND THEM.
