Pro Lawn & Landscape gave me an estimate for black edging and bullet edging for the back and front yard to contain rock or mulch. I hired Tim. I gave him 50% down as he asked; he should have only been given 30% down for materials - my mistake. The project didn't go as planned: It took all week to complete and I provided labor on two of the days to help get the work done because on those days he had no other assistance. Overall I was overcharged for the work completed; he didn't discount my labor. Tim should bid out materials and labor separately and not provide installed prices only for the materials. His practice is deceptive as it hides the cost of materials in the installed price. Example: He charged me for 273 feet of black edging at $3.50 per foot with no indication of the material cost; and after it was installed he didn't validate the installed footage - as a result he didn't actually install 273 feet, but closer to 253 feet. And he doesn't provide receipts for the materials charged for the job! He doesn't appear to be detail oriented about quality of workmanship at times. For example, the brick he glued to the brick layer underneath it at the shed could have been laid straighter, and one had a noticeable chip missing in it. My wife noticed something similar at the fire pit. The rock delivered was smaller than 2.5 inches and not river rock as she wanted.
