Michael did an outstanding job in spite of running into some issues with the plumbing in a 52 year old home. He was extremely respectful of our house and never wore his boots inside the house and cleaned up the work area so you would never know the work had been done. He was friendly and explained everything he did thoroughly.

Dispatcher would not give estimate. An apprentice was in my house less than 30 minutes. They charged $566 for a very easy job which comes to an hourly rate of $1132/Hr. Refused to give itemized bill. The head of billing read a script about how their prices are appropriate because they are a "Premium Plumber". Neighbor saw the truck and said he would never use them again.. Charged outrageous prices $2,500 for 2 feet of work. He is correct.

We had nothing but problems with this company. First they vented our dryer through the wrong area of our exterior resulting in a second hole needing to be drilled through our house. Then they ran the AC hose through area that I specifically told them would end up being finished living space. This also had to be re-done. Worst of all the connections and sealing of voids in the duct work was the work of absolute amateurs. There were screw holes with no screws in them, voids in the ductwork allowing large amounts of air to escape, and poor taping jobs. I called and emailed them multiple times, even sent pictures as instructed. A manager was supposed to have called me back and never did so. After continuously being ignored by management, I ended up taping, adding screws, fixing all of this myself so I could finish framing and sheet rocking our basement. I fixed and or completed work that I already paid them to do.

We called Uptown Heating and Cooling to replace our old air conditioner which was not working. The first service tech inspected our air conditioner on Thursday, laid out our alternatives, and gave us specific costs for each option. Three service techs from Uptown were at our home at 7:00 AM on Friday morning. They were professional, friendly, and took time to answer any questions I had. They were very careful to keep everything clean when going back and forth to our utility room during installation. And the final cost was exactly what had been quoted. There were no surprises. These guys are great. I would highly recommend Uptown for their professionalism and fast service!

They're responsive, they're friendly, they're attentive, they're easy to work with, and they do what they say they'll do. Uptown convinced me to hire them for repair based on a false claim concerning the status of my Bryant AC coil warranty. Uptown is listed as a factory authorized dealer for Bryant AC. Uptown's representative falsely told me that my Bryant AC was beyond warranty. Expecting to have to pay retail for a new coil, I hired Uptown to perform the repair at a cost of $2,650. The repair took 4 hours. I later found out from Bryant that my coil had an additional 5 years remaining on the warranty. Uptown refunded only $487 after I confronted them. They refused to provide an itemized statement showing charges for parts and labor. Their price minus the refund means they charged more than $500 per hour for labor. If you use this company, get an estimate for their labor charges before agreeing to hire them.

This company is overpriced. I have used Uptown for 2 major projects - a top of the line boiler/water heater installed for $10,000 in 2009 and new radiator valves throughout my house installed in 2014. Seven years after installing the top of the line boiler, it needed a new blower because a plastic part on the fan broke. The online price for this ECM motor is less than $400. The technician took about two hours to replace the part and Uptown charged $1100. From that, I estimate that labor costs are about $350 an hour. I called Uptown and asked,as a steady customer, if they could provide a lower cost . I thought $750 was fair ($150/hour for labor). I left several messages for a manager to get back to me, and they did not return my call. Uptown has great marketing and they do good work. But they are overpriced and for that reason this is not good value in my opinion.

get ready for the up sell. Pricing is very unclear and simple fixes such as replacing as valve are sold as in a graphical "bandaid, silver, gold and platinum package" which which is more about sales and merchandising than fixing your homes issue. They also do flat rate charges rather than by the hour. In my case they had about $50 in parts and about 90 minutes worth of work which they charged $650 for. he openly admitted it could take as little as 20 minutes but the $650 would be the charge. Some people might like flat rates but in almost every case you are going to be on the loosing end of that deal. On top of that without asking he started doing chlorine testing and tried to sell me an completely unrelated whole house chlorine treatment system. Not only did I not ask for this but his sales techniques included fear tactics and knowing a bit about systems I doubt his effectiveness claims. He told me I wouldn't have to change the loose carbon for ten years. In use with chloramines which is chlorine mixed with ammonia and really hard to remove effectively (Minneapolis water) I find that ten year clam highly unbelievable, almost recklessly so. They also canceled an appointment same day and had to reschedule for another day. If time is valuable to you it might be wise to look elsewhere. The did refund the $70 drive charge because of this.

Thank you for your review. One thing you can count on from Uptown is that we always give a range of options from the most economical option to the most premium option. We do flat rate pricing because its what our customers what. They hate being surprised at the end of the job, if the tech needs to run to a warehouse to get a part, or if the project takes longer than expected. Upfront pricing allows customer to know exactly the price beforehand, regardless how the job goes.

Uptown was very responsive and very punctual. The scheduling for the work was not a problem either. Where the breakdown occurred was that we paid for a completely new furnace, new water heater, and new A/C all at the same time. The furnace and central A/C use a zone system. We discovered that they had retained the old control board, from the old furnace, for the new zone system, not replacing it with a new control board, and they retained the old furnace water pump also. Keep in mind this was a $15,000 job. I came home to find a $15,000 job with the old furnace water pump and the old control board just slapped back in place on the new furnace. We called to complain and they came out and replaced the old furnace water pump with a new one and they said they would replace the control board. Today I discover that they apparently didn't replace or correct the old control board, and I now have a defunct basement thermostat from the old furnace system interfering with the new zone system. As a result, the A/C is running non stop because it is being fed information from what should have been a defunct thermostate. This is exactly the type of problem with unpredictability and improper zone coordination that caused us to seek a new furnace in the first place. It would seem the old control board was actually never fully replaced. We will call them again and get them back here once again, but the bottom line is that we caught them taking short cuts on this job and we have had to call them on it more than once. I get the impression Uptown built a great reputation when it was a small operation. Now that it has grown substantially, it may have lost a good deal of the small business conscientiousness that resulted in that early reputation. Now, they will respond to this review, you can be sure of that, because they always do, and they will offer some form of explanation because they know how how to market themselves on here. But what you should look for is the final entry I will make once this matter is addressed: I will come back and explain what kind of outcome was reached regarding what was, once again, a $15,000 furnace, A/C/, and water heater replacement. Buyer beware.

Installation was very poor. The second day after installation water was leaking out of one unit because they did not install the unit level. Later we found out that the electrical was all fouled up. Wires were crossed. We had two units; the remote for one unit turned on the other and vice versa. We had the electrical redone by another company. Uptown heating and cooling was willing to have their contractor redo it but my wife was so fed up that we hired another electrical contractor to redo the electrical. I was very embarrased because for many years I had urged my wife to go along with the ductless system, and then the installation got all fouled up.

I wish the flyer had stated that the offer did not apply to condominiums. That would have saved us both time and aggravation. I hope that this review may save other condo owners time and aggravation.
Description of Work: I received a flyer from the company inside a neighborhood newspaper. The flyer advertised savings on the installation of mini-split air conditioning. When I called, after being asked by the person who answered the phone what he could do "to make my day great," I was referred to the person who handles this type of call, who told me that the company does not work on condos. When I expressed surprise and asked why not, she replied, "we just don't do condos." She gave me a name and number for a company that she said does do them.

The plumber quoted $400 to fix a leak in the main water line, $200 to reseat a toilet and $500 to re-plumb a sink drain. Being that the work was urgent, despite the obviously ridiculous quote I had them reseat the toilet and fix the main line leak. He was done in 2 hours. That is $350 an hour. The main line is leaking again and luckily at this price they have a warranty. I'll be calling them back to re-fix it. I called a different plumber for the sink drain and they fixed that for $92. This place is outrageously over priced and incompetent. Oh and the total ended up being $732 not $600. They must not be good at math either.

Our domestic hot water supply was not working properly. The problem, a broken dip tube, was an uncommon one for this particular unit. It took a while to diagnose. Once the cause was identified, Ian and Dave provided a temporary fix until the replacement part was available. When the new part arrived, Dave quickly installed it. Uptown has always provided good service.

technician seems to have experience and he was polite states that he has the flow tech device at his house him self and that he has paid for it and he would not invest this kind of money if he was not really sure it is working the only thing he wanted to charge me almost $300 to fix the leak in the toilets with replacing parts that is possibly less than few dollars. I would use them again if needed just because I feel this experience did not yet evaluate their actual real work and to give them another chance. their customer service were excellent. I will update you about how the device working and if it is working once I have more information , also any body else know about this Flow tech, can you please let us know.
Description of Work: I had a toilet leak ,they were very responsive right away . and when technician came , he told us that we have a problem with hard water and that is why we are having problem with pluming, recommended to install something called Flow tech for water treatment which is a small device supposed to be working with ions charges and clean scaling from the pipes, I was very skeptical but given that I have been having several leaks from multiple areas , I agreed , he installed the device in possibly 5 minutes and charges a little over $1900. states that it has a warranty and we can return it for full refund if we fell it is not working, we are trying it now and we will see. not really sure how is it work and if it will work, did not see any reviews or information about this flow tech water anti scaling system and not sure if it is really can replace the water softner or if it is just another way of making money from a useless device. We already have a water softner and the technician said it is not working properly.

Here is how it fell out: I knew my aging Bryant furnace had a design flaw in the heat exchanger . I was keeping an eye on it, since it had a twenty year warranty. I The installer had sent me a letter and checked it in February of 2015. At that time they found rust and pitting but it passed a c/o test and was not leaking. I bought a furnace tuneup big dealfrom Uptown heating on Oct 10 2015 but was unable to schedule it before 11/20. I had reservations that that might well be into the heating season, but I agreed On the day they arrived to do the test it was indeed the middle of a cold snap. Citing a high risk to personal safety they shut the furnace down and offered 3 options 1).replace heat exchanger for $3189, labor only -no warranty. I later found out that both parts and labor were free of charge under the 20 year warranty mandated by the class action lawsuit, as was compensation toward the cost of a new furnace. However. the settlement stipulated that the heat exchanger be returned to Bryant for inspection and verification for this to be in effect. This was not done. 2). renovate system for $5575 with 1 year warranty but not on the heat exchanger. 2). 3).SYSTEM UPDATE: replace with new reliable system .I chose I didn't realize at the time they were just talking about a new heating system, since i had a central a/c unit. The sales rep came out the next morning (Saturday)and presented two options Premium and Deluxe, which both displayed the same furnace and a/c unit with different installation and several service plan options. based on the costs presented for repair or renovation- which proved to be inaccurate I chose the deluxe option for $5624 The installation was arranged for Monday The 23rd. and carried out.At this time the old furnace as well as the heat exchanger were removed and thrown out.So- I could have repaired my furnace safe working order had I been advised to do so. The irony is that I thought I'd save a little money by going with a slightly cheaper Big Deal to save a little of my fixed income. Far from an inconvenience, that choice set me back some serious dough I

I received an appointment reminder call and a call the morning of the appointment with a realistic estimate of the time of arrival. Sean was very professional. Some things were good and others we weren't comfortable with. They left the place clean. There were two different parts of the service. They were here when they said they would be here. We purchased a $69 deal to have them check our furnace and it took them over a month. When they came, it was the coldest day we've had so far. They found some holes in the furnace. We had a Bryant furnace and the heat exchanger has had known issues and there was law suit about that. Allegedly, Bryant would pay for the parts but not the label. Uptown was claiming that their charge for the label was over 3000 but when we talked to other companies, they said it was about $1000. We found that questionable. We decided to give them a furnace. They were nice about that. It was a Friday and we didn't have heat all weekend but they installed it first thing on Monday morning. We were given a brochure that had an air conditioner. Nothing about an air conditioner was mentioned or appeared on the written proposal. I was under the impression that they were going to have an air conditioner, which I was interested in. There's always a package that makes it cheaper to have them bought together. The only extra charge was to drive the track around. 5 days later, the furnace just locked down and stopped working. They were very nice. They sent out someone right away who did not know what had happened. Luckily, it has never happened again.
Description of Work: They put in a furnace.

Tech who came out was friendly, punctual, and polite. He gave the boiler and the water heater a good once-over. (I assume he did a decent job, but I don't really know.) He let me know that the pump had quit working completely. (Fortunately, I had already purchased a new pump, and was able to install it myself.) He also mentioned that the thermocouple was probably going to go out soon. He gave me an estimate of either $200 or $300 to fix it (I forget which.) I'm glad I waited, as I found the part online for $7 with detailed instructions on how to replace it. I was able to replace the thermocouple myself in about 30 minutes. Granted, not everyone would feel comfortable making that replacement themselves, but I'm glad I did. So, while I felt he did a good job, and I might consider them for any future work, that certainly would cause me to be careful about pricing for any future work.
Description of Work: Fairly routine check-up of boiler and water heater; purchased for $69.00 through Angie's List.

It went very well. He was very professional and explained everything he was doing and if there was an issue explained it to me throughly and gave me the choice of what corrective action I wanted to take.
