Description of Work: We had a new gas manifold system installed yesterday. The reason was dangerously high levels of gas leaking in our basement pipes that we started to smell. We were told, by Hero, that one of the leaks was a result of an install error (also by Hero) when they installed a $12,000 boiler less than a year ago. This afternoon when I smelled gas in my basement again, I called Hero to see if they could come check it out. They asked if it was a strong or not strong gas smell. I was really frustrated with this ridiculous question as we just spent $8000 to be safe in our home. I spent 40 minutes asking the operator to please check out the strong gas smell but they said they weren’t available to do so until tomorrow. Finally he agreed to send someone tonight, but as of now (10pm) no one has called or arrived. Luckily my husband is handy enough to run a bubble test which apparently hadn’t been done on the dryer line that was reconnected. There was a substantial leak left from yesterday with a strong odor of gas leaking into my house. We shut down the gas line clearly. I’m so disappointed that my family was put at risk tonight due to the initial mistakes and then the subsequent unresponsiveness and uncaring response of your staff.

Description of Work: We've had several large projects and have had Uptown out to quote multiple times. They charge a trip charge, which is absurd, and their prices are also WAY out of the league of other plumbers. DO NOT HIRE THEM unless you have money to burn. Their quality may be good, but so are other companies.

Description of Work: I needed a quote for a new furnace. When I called the company to schedule they let me know they would charge a $65 fee to come out and give me a quote. I said that's crazy and cancelled. They quickly said they would waive the fee. I scheduled and 10 minutes after the appointment they called to reschedule. I rescheduled for a few days later and again right before the scheduled time they called to cancel. i called their manager to complain and she could have cared less. I didn't reschedule.

+ -1 moreMy boiler died on me so I needed to get a new one installed immediately. I interviewed five contractors in one day and Josh stood out far and above. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and courteous. His quote was also $1000 less than anyone else. He took the time to answer all of my questions and explain the process. He was very honest - I asked about installing A/C and although other companies said it was doable, Josh said that it probably wasn't worth the investment due to the complexity. When it seems like companies are always looking for a way to get more money, I appreciated Josh's honesty. Josh handled everything including scheduling the removal and the electrical. In addition, we recently had to call Josh because one of the radiators wasn't working correctly. He sent out a technician, fixed it, and didn't charge us anything. I like to support small, family owned businesses and its because of companies like Ridler that I do. Great customer service is priceless!

+ -1 moreIt went very well. Josh explained how the system worked, how to maintain correct pressure, and how to attempt to get all radiators to emit equal heat. He explained the age of my furnace, gave me his assessment of it (which was good), and told me to expect X number of years out of it. He also briefly explained other heating options for my old home. Josh was friendly, courteous, super on time (I was actually late, but he did not charge me for that time). Bill came in lower than expected. Highly recommend.
Description of Work: Replaced pump and drain on hot water boiler heating system, both were leaking badly. Drained water out of system, and bled all radiators.

Josh was great to work with, professional, but explained everything to me, without making me feel less than educated about boilers. It was great to find a company of this quality that I feel I can rely on in the future. I would definately use Ridler again.

+ -1 moreJosh Savage is honest, hard-working and very nice to deal with. He came the same day that I called and gave me a free estimate that was almost half what another company from Angie's List had estimated. The work was done right on schedule, looks great and works great. The space was a little tight for all the plumbing that they had to do, but they did a good job of making it all accessible and it has a real professional look to it. They did a good job of cleaning up, except for the old thermostats which they just left lying around. The owner's manual for the furnace was missing, so Josh brought that over to me the same evening that it was installed. One of the pipe connections had a slight leak when the circulator for that zone was running. When the leak didn't seal on its own after two weeks, they came and fixed it.
Description of Work: Replace 40 year old boiler with new Burnham furnace (85% efficient). Replace 20 year old hot water heater with Amtrol Boilermate unit that uses the furnace boiler to heat the water. They also replaced our two thermostats. The Boilermate has its own circulator pump (zone) and we already had separate zones for upstairs and downstairs, giving us a total of three zones. The Boilermate costs over two times as much as a regular hot water heater, but it is more efficient, is good for the boiler because the boiler gets used year round, and has a faster recovery time. They also disconnected the second gas meter that serviced just the hot water heater.

+ -1 moreWe could not be more pleased with the product and the service that Ridler provided. Josh is both salesman and installer, so that means that he really knows his stuff. It is great to work with the same person from start to finish. The company is a small family enterprise, which we liked. The customer service was really excellent from start to finish. We had consulted one other company that gave us a similar phone quote. Frankly, we were so impressed by Josh that after meeting with him, we did not bother getting other quotes. The installation was very efficient and they were extremely conscientious about cleaning up after their work. Josh was very responsive to our questions after the installation was completed as well and returned promptly to fix a small item. Our AC was installed just before the first heat wave of the summer and we just love it! It is definitely one of the best investments we have made on our house.
Description of Work: Ridler installed central AC (Unico duct sytem) on our house. Josh came to our house three times to discuss various different options. He took the time to study our house and our needs and came up with different proposals for us to choose from. We ended up putting AC ducts only on the top two levels of our house and use just one air handler. Having a second air handler in the basement leading up to the 1st floor would have added another $9-10k. The cold air drifts down to the first floor and we are very comfortable everywhere. The duct system works perfectly for our old house (1907). There are not many companies who install these systems. The air handler and the main outgoing ducts are larger than we had aniticipated, but they sit in an unused, unfinished side attic. The actual ductwork that goes to our living spaces is relatively small and very manageable. Josh and the crew worked hard to install the unit efficiently and unobstrusively.

+ -1 moreWe could not have been more pleased with the quality of the work and the attitude of the people working on the job. The staff were creative in finding solutions to some complicated problems and were very willing to address some of our concerns about the impact of the installation on the architectural integrity of the house and the appearance of the final installation. The company was very responsive, installing the system very soon after our initial inquiry, and completing the job a day earlier than expected. They were very careful when crawling through the house and respectful of the furnishings and decorations. They cleaned up very well before leaving each night. Even though the job was expensive, I think the price for the labor was not out of line considering the number of people the company had on the job and the quality of their work. We give the Ridler Company the highest rating on Angie's list. If there was a plus rating, we'd give it an A plus.
Description of Work: Ridler installed a duel air conditioning system in an old house which involved a completely new, complicated duct system as well as the two air conditioning units.

The installation was fast and professional. Both of us were extremely impressed with their craftsmanship. When small problems happened, they took care of them promptly and in a professional manner. We felt very well taken care of by this company.
Description of Work: Replaced old boiler with new atmospheric vent boiler. Replaced water heater with a boilermate water heater. Raised the mains in the basement. + -1 moreI had several bids. Theirs was the best, but I actually chose them because of their professionalism, and because we were never without heat (work was done in January). The other companies didn't offer nearly what Ridler offered, and some weren't going to remove the old pipes. I was actually pleasantly surprised that the job exceeded my expectations.
Description of Work: We had the "main raised" on our boiler system in order to finish our basement. This entailed cutting out all the old gravity fed boiler pipes and replacing them with copper that ran between the joists. A pump was also added to the system.

THE SERVICEMAN WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND EXPLAINED HIS THOUGHT PROCESS ON THE PROBLEM AND HOW HE WOULD FIX IT. HE HAD THE PART IN HIS VAN, AND WAS FINISHED IN ABOUT 30 MINUTES. I ALSO LIKED THAT THEY BILLED US, SO I DIDN'T NEED TO WRITE A CHECK RIGHT THERE.
Description of Work: OUR BOILER WAS ACTING A BIT CRAZY (HEATING THE HOUSE TO 78 DEGREES AND THEN SHUTTING OFF OVERNIGHT DROPPING THE TEMPERATURE DOWN TO 60). THEY FIXED A ZONING PLATE (I BELIEVE THAT'S WHAT IT WAS CALLED).

THE TEAM ARRIVED EXACTLY WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD, AND PROCEEDED TO WORK WITH EFFICIENCY, YET EXTREME CARE FOR OUR HOUSE. THEY ARE TRULY A GREAT TEAM OF PROFESSIONALS.
