The experience was very good. The price was reasonable.
Description of Work: Harrison Electric Inc did service for me. They upgraded my power from 100 amps to 200 amps. They put in a new box in the garage and ran wire out there.

My husband and I recently purchased a charming older home in South Minneapolis and called Harrison Electric to fix a ridiculous lighting situation in the main floor bath. Kevin came to my home, did a thorough investigation of the electrical in the bathroom as well as in the basement, and wrote up an estimate for a number of different options. The option we chose involved removing two sconces and installing a single vanity light. Kevin returned two days later to do the work. He was professional and friendly, and even crawled through my attic to avoid punching through the bathroom wall unnecessarily. He was upfront about any problems he encountered along the way. I will certainly use this company again in the future.
Description of Work: Rewired bathroom lighting, removed existing sconces and installed a new vanity fixture.

I loved everything about them. I had them come out and give me a bid and subsequently block the whole day to work on my project. They did a very thorough and professional job. They addressed the issues and got it done very quickly. They did a spectacular job. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

Everything went as expected; there were no problems. I had a few questions for Jason about the fluorescent bulbs and ballasts; he took some time to give me some helpful explanations. Overall, this was a very good experience.
Description of Work: On Sunday morning, June 26, whenI turned on the kitchen lights the circuit braker tripped. When it happened again, I called Harrison about 9 am. I left a voice mail and about 2 hours later, I got a call back. I described the problem and was told that the problem was probably with the wiring in the fluorescent bulbs and that I could turn the circuit back on but leave the lights off, which I did. Since the living room TV was on the same circuit, that was great advice so that the only devices we could not use were the overhead kitchen lights. The next day (June 27), Jason the electrician showed up to diagnose the problem. He found that the old ballast in two of the fluorescent bulbs had shorted out, causing the circuit braker to trip. Since the house was built in 1959, we decided to replace all 6 ballasts in the fluroescent fixtures. He scheduled a second appointment to do that at 8 am on June 30th. Jason showed up a few minutues early. It took him about 2 1/2 hours to replace the 6 ballast units, replace the older fluorescent bulbs (T-12) with newer bulbs (T-8), replace several of the "tombstone" connections, and put in a new light switch.

So impressed with this company - they returned my call right away and were able to schedule an service call for that same day, a Friday no less! The owner explained how they schedule appointments, what to expect as far as timing, and clarified exactly what the work would entail and how much it would cost. The electrician (Jessie, I believe) showed up quite a bit later than expected, due to the rainy weather and the previous customer adding a few unexpected indoor projects to the list, but that wasn't his fault and the owner called to let me know he was running late, which was much appreciated. Jessie completed the work in no time, showed us what was done & even left a magnet on the circuit board in the event we had any problems (their work is guaranteed for 3 years). The total was originally $91 but we applied their Angie's List coupon for $35 off - thank you!! Would definitely recommend Harrison Electric for any future jobs!

I had initially scheduled Harrison to come on Tuesday 5/24 around 3pm. The owner called at 3:15 to say the installer scheduled for the job was working on storm-related repair in North Minneapolis and was not answering his phone, so they couldn't get a hold of him and didn't think he would make the job. I understand there were bad storms the prior weekend and accepted the owner's suggested reschedule to Thursday around 3pm. I arranged my work schedule to again be home Thursday afternoon to be here for the electrician. I called the company at 4pm to make sure I was still on the schedule - I spoke to a woman and she confirmed I was still on the schedule for the day. I continued to wait and finally called the company back again at 5:30, hoping that someone would be on the way soon. I spoke with the owner and he again told me the same thing as Tuesday - his technician was working on storm related repair and was not answering his phone, so they couldn't tell me if he would be coming or not. I asked if they could provide me a timeframe in which I could expect someone to come and the owner said he could not since his technician was not answering his phone. I asked that if someone come, that it must be before 7pm when my daughter goes to bed. He said he would call me back as soon as he heard something. No one had bothered to call me back, so finally at 7:30pm I called the owner. He said he could come out the following morning, but given our poor experience I said we would be going with someone else. This was extremely frustrating as I wasted two afternoons taking off work waiting for scheduled appointments which never happened. I understand that things come up and schedules can change, but the company needs to manage expectations and availability for their clients. I would have even given Harrison Electric a third chance had they proactively called me on Thursday afternoon, instead of me calling them to find out if I should expect someone or not. Being told twice on two different days that the technician was "not answering his phone" and therefore they could not tell me if someone would be coming indicates a management problem to me. I had initially selected this company based on their A rating on Angie's List...I have since contacted another company who is A Rated and I hope to have a much better experience.
Description of Work: Very disappointing - this company was a no-show twice in one week for scheduled appointments and had very poor communication. Please see detailed comments below.

I cannot express how much I appreciate having gone with a reputable contractor in the first place to install the panel. I got one other bid of about 1$1300 for this work and was told that most electricians would only warrantly their work for 1 year. I was thrilled when John acknowledged he would cover this without any discussion or hesitation. John followed up with a phone call to confirm all was well a few days later.
Description of Work: I can't say how impressed I was with John. I called him with the problem and he came out and fixed it the next morning. The problem was rainwater got into our electric panel box from the outside. John's company had installed it in 2002. In 2009 they did further work to bury our overhead cables. John determined that all the breakers needed to be replaced since they had gotten wet and from the start determined it would all be under warranty without any haggling. I know he used 'high end' materials to start with (Cuttler and Hammer?) and so replacement charges are also high end. I believe repacing the breakers would have cost about $1500. He did charge us $256 to install a lifetime surge protector which apparently had not been initially installed. He also did some corrective work that a non-electrician had performed not to code.

I am impressed with the quality of service level that I received from this company. Jason, the electrician, faced a fairly difficult job as he was replacing lights in a slant roof. He had to do some do some cuttings to get the light fixtures to fit. He did the work very well. I did not have to do any work on the dry wall despite the cutting that Jason had to do. Not only did Jason do the electrical work very well, but he left the work area very clean and neat. Jason was always on time also. I recommend this company and Jason for those with tough electrical problems.

It takes patience and skill to deal with the wiring in a 112 year old house. Matt did a great job keeping me informed of the cost as the job progressed. Pricing is based on a standard cost schedule that shows the cost involved for every aspect of the job. I felt good about that having had other service providers that came up with both estimate and the final bill "off the top of their heads". When I called Harrison, the owner made an appointment for Matt to come out the next day and explained how they would proceed from estimate to completion. Frankly, I felt good about the whole experience. I never felt pressured at any time. I'd give Harrison and Matt a high satisfaction rating.
Description of Work: Matt replaced the fan/light/heater in the ceiling of the 2nd floor bathroom. He revented the ceiling exhaust fan, cut into the ceiling to enlarge the opening for the new fan and installed two additional smoke detectors, a co detecter and a whole house surge protector.

A floor outlet in our upstairs hallway shorted out late one night with a bang and a pretty nasty burnt wire smell, tripping the circuit breaker. I didn't particularly want to return power to the circuit without having it checked out first, so I called some electricians the next morning. Harrison Electric agreed to come out between 2-4 PM the next day; Kevin actually showed up at 11:45 AM, which was fine. He quickly unscrewed the cover, cut out the burnt-out outlet and capped the wires. We then turned power back on at the circuit breaker and verified that the other lights and sockets on that circuit worked and he covered the missing floor outlet with a blank cover per my wishes. All in all it was a very quick and professionally done job with only the travel fee charged. I would definitely recommend for any similar work.

I had been planning on replacing our outdated fuse box system with a circuit breaker system. One day this past November, we experienced a power overload, and subsequent outage to our entire house. Though I attempted to replace the burned out fuses, my wife and I had difficulty getting the power restored in the entire house. In a pinch (it was a Sunday evening), we called Harrison Electrical. They immediately responded to the call, and within an hour a technician was at our home evaluating the situation. We quickly determined that the best overall course of action was to finally replace the entire system. Harrison then had a two-man team back at our home by 8 a.m. the following morning. The techs were polite, friendly, professional and efficient. When our deck in the rear of the house proved to be in the way of installing the new meter outside, they quickly dismantled the necessary area of the deck, and even put a new bolt in when putting it back together. They completed the entire job an hour ahead of schedule (just before noon), and were able to save us a few dollars. Since then, while we haven't had an overload of power to test the new circuit breaker system, we're very happy with the clean, well-labeled panel that they installed. Would definitely use them again and recommend them to anyone.

The reason I'm giving Harrison an "F" however, is because of their outrageous pricing, and refusal to talk to me in order to resolve my concerns. Harrison charged me $333 for what was less than one hour's worth of work, and I was NEVER given an estimate before the work was done, which is promised on their website. I have contacted Harrison several times, and even wrote/called to Jon Harrison directly, but to date they have never even once returned my calls or emails and absolutely refuse to address the concern. All I asked is that they explain to me how they arrived at $333 for the work performed, and if I was over-charged, then refund me. I have been polite about the whole thing. No more. Please, please, please, if you are considering Harrison, then GET IT IN WRITING before they do any work, and hope that they do it right , because once they have your money, they don't care about you any more. I will NEVER use them again, and I do not recommend them.
Description of Work: Get the cost in writing first! My experience with Harrison was twofold. I called them in order to have two switches replaced. I had installed a subfloor heating system, and just needed someone to help me wire it up. I had already installed the floor unit, run the wiring through the wall, and tested it with an ohm-meter. There was a light switch nearby configured as a 3-way, so I asked Harrison to replace that switch with the heating control which I supplied, and replace the other switch with a standard light switch. It was a very small job. I also asked for estimates on future work. Harrison arrived on time. The technician wasted a lot of time looking around for ways to run new wiring to the socket because he didn't see a common wire. *I* had to explain to him that the common wire was coming from the other 3-way switch already. After the head-slap, he finished the job. The work was done adequately enough, and everything works. He showed up on time. He was professional, but not as knowledgeable as I would have expected from a technician. I was NEVER given an estimate prior to the work being performed.

Very disappointing. It has been 3 weeks and now I start over. We actually had 4 schedules and I had to cancel one due to a funeral I needed to attend but I did call them 2 days in advance to notifiy them. They advertised that they worked on weekends and that was when I scheduled the time. I have a hunch they don't want to work on weekends or don't have staff that will.
Description of Work: I was initially impressed with their responsiveness over the phone but we have had appts scheduled 3 different times and 2 were no shows and one was a reschedule. I was disappointed. I realize mistakes happen but in neither of the no show cases did they bother to call me back to explain or express concern. Obviously after this last no show I did not bother to call them either.
