Fourteen months after Harrison completed the work at our house they sent me a letter explaining that they had never called the Bloomington inspectors to close the permit. When the inspector came and asked what Harrison had done I explained that they scared my wife into replacing the breakers. He then asked what was wrong with the breakers (since apparently they are to last for decades), and we stated that there had been nothing wrong to our knowledge. He then told us that they have run into this kind of fear-selling out of Harrison. In short, we wasted $1200 on a service that we did not need. Also, I had Harrison quote a price to move a chandelier from one room to another. The electrician from Harrison quoted a price of $1400. We declined! BTW we had Tommy Electric, our regular electrician, move the chandelier for $250. In short, I will sit in the dark before I ever call on Harrison ever again. I will now be filing a complaint with the BBB.
Description of Work: Scared my wife into spending $1200 completely without cause.

I tried THREE times to work with Harrison Electric only to be blown off. The first time I called, my request and info was lost somehow. The second time I called, and electrician did come to my house to discuss having a standby generator installed. He was supposed to follow up and give me a recommended plan and estimate of costs for what we needed. I never heard back from him. I called a few weeks later to find out why and was just told that someone would get back to me. Now several weeks later, I have still not heard from them. I would not recommend working with this company based solely on their non-responsiveness.

John came out in early August to provide me with a quote on installing a new ceiling fan with lights in our living room with a 20ft ceiling. He was on time and very helpful with ideas on installing recessed lighting to better illuminate the room. John gave me a quote and after some additional research, went ahead with Harrison Electric. Job was scheduled to start and complete on August 27, 2013. Due to the extreme heat, John called on Monday August, 26 and stated it was too dangerous for his crew to be crawling around in the attic at the high temps we were experiencing and I agreed completely. John stated in his message he would be calling me within a day to reschedule the work. Needless to say, I never received a call that week. I finally called John on September 3rd to see where my job stood in line with the rest of their work. John answered and stated they were still trying to catch up on the work that was delayed by weather, but could have guys out by Thursday or Friday (September 5-6) of that week to complete the work. John again stated he would call back with verification on date and time. At this point, I'm still understanding of the delay, but really want to make sure the work is completed before my daughter's first birthday on September 15th. Here we are a day after my daughters birthday party (no lights!) and I've heard nothing from John since September 3rd. I've called him numerous times, and left him a message trying to figure out why things haven't started moving. Absolutely the worst company with high feedback I've encountered on Angie's List. Would not recommend this company to anyone. No apologies, no communication whatsoever in two weeks.

The sign on the side of the truck says "Yes! We can fix it today!" And they did! I phoned Harrison Electric early in the morning and was told that someone could come out and take a look around midday. In fact, Kevin called back in less than 30 minutes and was out to the house promptly. He was courteous and knowledgeable and showed us other ways we could make improvements to our older home's electrical system. He completed the repair quickly and explained everything thoroughly. This was the first time I've used a service from Angie's List and I was very happy with this company. I will definitely use the list again and would highly recommend Harrison Electric to anyone needing electrical services!
Description of Work: We had an air conditioner unit circuit breaker that kept tripping. Kevin inspected the electrical panel, found the melted circuit breaker, showed us everything and explained it fully, and then replaced the breaker.

Kevin was sent for the initial electrical rough in, and spent all day working on it. When we were ready for other fixtures to be installed, he came out and spent all day on that work. The contractor we originally hired to do several things, including our vent hood, decided that he was not able to do the work. Kevin called his boss and they spent some time going over the installation instructions and agreed to do it for us. The install date for that work was rescheduled due to the emergency work needed after the severe weather in the area. I was mildly annoyed that the home office did not call when they said they would to reschedule the remainder of the work, but I was able to get it rescheduled by calling myself. Kevin and Tim came out and completed the work as scheduled. Kevin is always professional, friendly, and fun, and very resourceful. I appreciated that I never was sent to the hardware store to get items he should have had on hand - his truck was well stocked and he had all the screws, wires, etc. that you would expect an electrician to have. I would unreservedly recommend Kevin to others - he's a hard worker and he was just generally a bright spot in what was often a frustrating remodel.
Description of Work: Full electrical work for complete kitchen remodel, including moving outlets. installation of 240v service, installation of undercabinet lighting, and hanging of chandeliers and other light fixtures. He also installed our vent hood after another contractor balked at the task.

Our electrician, John Funk, was very friendly, informative and punctual. He did a fantastic job and kept us informed the entire time he was working with us. The owner even stopped by during our job, greeted us and explained the process. Harrison is now our go-to company when we need electric work done in or home. We would recommend them to all of our family and friends. Prices were explained and we do not feel we were being upsold or ripped-off with products or services we did not need. We will definitely use Harrison again.
Description of Work: Upgraded our home electric service from 100 to 150 amp service, added whole-house surge protection, added a new circuit for the kitchen to prevent circuit trips, upgraded outlets to code with GF+, added 3-way switch for basement stairway lighting.

Jon Harrison came out on an evening to meet with myself and a neighbor to give us estimate, to replace old FPE breaker panel. Jon was here about 3 hours give an estimate, explain reasons to replace or risks not to replace it. There is a Lifetime Warranty on Equipment, 15 years on work performed and permit needed for job included in the estimate. I took the estimate to Association meeting and we voted to have it replaced as soon as possible. I called Jon, was able to have it scheduled for couple days later. Jason, arrived early morning put on his "red shoes covers" and got to work right away. Plastic covering was put down where he would be working. Then he removed old "Unsafe FPE" breaker panel from our furnace room. Showed me difference in old and new circuits. Checked all wires to make sure none were broken or unsafe. Installed new breaker panel and labeled all the circuits while checking that they were connected correctly.. Removed old timer clock that we no longer use. (It was just using electricity) Jason cleaned his work space and finished by vacuuming floor and base of walls. The job was complete in about 6 hours. City Inspector came out and he said, "Harrison Electric does great work".as he out his sticker on our panel. Jason is very professional and knows his job very well. Questions were answered so I understood. I was easily able to let my Association members know how work was done. Harrison Electric is a Great Customer Service Company. They are very Professional, Knowledgeable, Fair Prices and Great Warranty on Services. They do excellent work and we will definitely call them next time. Thanks so much Jon and Jason!

Matt had to order a part for the heating panel and also had to get a new knob for sauna unit. Matt was very friendly, efficient, and after the proper part was finally working, he even brought an extra knob over that the manufacturer had sent. He also replaced the light fixture in the laundry room after purchasing a matching one. Matt did a good job and came on time. He was curteous and friendly and seemed to know what he was doing. The sauna was a bit of a challenge, but Matt was willing to take on the task and we now have a working sauna, for which we have enjoyed after a cold day outside.
Description of Work: Sauna switch was replaced after trying various options. Went through a sauna company to finally get the proper device. They ordered the switch and it is now working great. Also had light in laundry room replaced. They picked up a similar fixture and replaced. Replaced faulty heating panel on sauna Replaced fluorescent light in laundry room

Only had him out to fix two issues. He corrected one small issue, and before he could fix the other issue, he said he needed to do a whole house diagnostic. This cost me $257. Then he came back with his recommendations, the cheapest at $1161, the most expensive $2421. This included replacing my electrical panel and updating to 150 amps from 100 amps. Plus he also suggested adding 3 new circuits, which added about another $1000. Of course he recommended the higher service, and then tried to get me to have it done in the next day or two. Total for work he recommended was almost $3500. I felt it was too much money, and decided to ask friends. A good friend, who is a home remodeler, came and looked at things, and said he didn't think I needed to update my box, and all I really needed was the outlet taken care of. Then I had a second electrician come in, and he said the same thing. The city inspector also said my electrical panel was top quality, and looked just fine, and I had no need to upgrade to 150 amp, in his opinion. So basically, I feel I was misled and had work recomended that I didn't need. Felt taken advantage of being a single woman. I would not use this company again, and would not recommend it to anyone.

I scheduled an electrician to come to my home to work on a Saturday (for a service fee). I found this extremely convenient and would use them again. John was very professional and friendly. He looked at everything, explained to me how he was going to do each task, and let me know about some other work that he recommended (replacing very old breakers in my panel). John wrote up some pricing options (by task, not hourly). He completed the work efficiently and it seems to be of high quality. Clean-up was generally good but not perfect ( I wouldn't expect it to be). John went the extra mile and found a piece of wood in his truck he used to screw a small chunk of drywall back into place.
Description of Work: Relocate electric dryer and washer outlet/circuit to the basement, install an outlet for a gas stove, and trouble shoot an outlet that tripped the breaker when used.

We visited them at the Western Suburb Home Show in Hopkins earlier in February. We were really impressed with employee John Funk. He got right to work, was very neat (wore his booties.. wish I could get two teenagers and dog to do that ) professional and polite. He gave us a fair bid upfront for the whole job. We really like that they invoice us by the project..and not by the hour. And we didn't have to pay him until the job was completely done. And not being on an hourly basis didn't dawdle like other tradesman we have seen in the past who are paid by the hour. John did most of the work on 02/26 and 02/27 and came back to finish up the last of it on 03/06/13. Would definitely ask them back (rather than trying the DIY route) if any other electrical projects come up and highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: We had a couple of misguided DIY electrical projects that I thought were going to be fairly simple.. but the Newer light fixtures wouldn't attach easily to the old hardware and space left by removing the old ones. (loose and wiggly when done and one had some bare wires that kept crossing and shorting out every time I opened the front door :( We had updated our electrical service earlier in the year, but we still had mostly original 1964 outlets and switches throughout the house. Most switches and outlets throughout the house were loose and not staying on or not holding plugs reliably. Many were only 2 pronged plugs and required adaptors to be useful.. So we Added a NEW GFI 4plex outlet plug in the bathroom Added a NEW GFI outlet plug in the Laundry Room Added a NEW Outdoor Outlet Installed a NEW All House Surge Protector Fixed a Ceiling Fan Light switch cord Moved a light switch from one side of entryway to another Hung a new kitchen light fixture Re hung 2 misguided DIY light fixture projects so they were tight to the ceiling Re wired entryway light fixture that was shorting out Replaced 15 light switches Replaced 31 outlets

First contact with Harrison Electric at Roseville Living show. Met with them in our house. Discussed new electrical panel and an electrical audit. Discussed that panel upgrade would be done first followed by the audit. No firm estimate that day. Called saying we would like to go ahead with the new panel, but would like firm number first. No response. Sent email about a month later looking for estimate. Response from the office the next day saying this was not normal, and they would get right back. Last we ever heard. We still have not done the work.

They arrived on time. Quickly checked the circuit. Told me what they would do and did it. They checked everything and made additional recommendations for future work. (Like replace my old panel.) Just very professional.

This was one of the easiest experiences I've ever had with a service provider. Their web site said it was o.k. to call anytime. This was a Saturday and it wasn't an emergency. I called anyway, hoping to set up an appointment for Monday. I was expecting to get an on-call Electrician or answering service that could only help if I had an emergency. Instead, I talked to the person that organizes all the appointments. He was able to schedule someone for Monday morning. He offered to come out on the weekend, but wasn't pushy about it and reassured me it was o.k. to call if anything changed. Jason showed up Monday morning as scheduled. He was very pleasant, courteous and solved the problem quickly. He recommended some other work that was out of code but didn't try to scare me or push to have it completed. I decided it was worthwhile to complete the work.

The company was responsive and professional, but charged a lot compared to other options. It didn't take the electrician very long to perform the repair and switch out the 1 set of outlets and it was over $200! Of course, minimum charges are common in this business, but I have since found another electrician who has a lower minimum and works quickly and carefully as well.

John came to our house on a Saturday to give us an estimate. He spent over an hour at the house listening to exactly what we wanted done and then checked out the rest of the house to see if there was any other issues that we may not have been aware of. After he wrote up the estimate, he sat down with my husband and I to explain exactly what the estimate entailed so we knew exactly what services we would be paying for. The estimate for the kitchen work was $1300. Jason came out a couple of days later to install the work. He thought it would take him until 4:30 that day. He was done by 2:00! We also wanted to wait to put the recessed lighting in because of some duct work that had to be moved so he came out again at 5:00pm as that was the only time that worked for our schedules. Jason is great! Request him to do your work if you choose this company. If we need to do electrical in the future, we will certainly be requesting him. The total cost of the repairs came in under estimate. This is not a typo. We paid $200 less than what was originally estimated. Thanks John and Jason. You were both great!!!! Eric and Erin
