The technician was right on time to do a check up on my furnace. I mentioned to him that I had concerns about the install. He checked it out and discovered that the wires were incorrectly attached. I should mention that the furnace was installed by another company and not, to my regret, by GV Heating. He quickly corrected the problem and also discovered that the original installer had set the flame too high, which means that it would have caused too much residue and the furnace would eventually stop working because of this. I had a horrible experience with the company that installed it, and now feel relieved that the furnace will function properly. I will be calling GV Heating for my future needs. I am very, very pleased with this company.

It went well. They gave me a very competitive quote for a Lennox furnace and A/C system. They did not seem to think a heat pump was worth the money. I went with a different contractor to get a Bryant system with heat pump.
Description of Work: I asked them to provide a quote for a new energy efficient furnace and air conditioner. Estimated cost: $8000.

They have been extremely responsive and very helpful. They did great work, and the furnace works great now. We were fortunate that they were able to detect the carbon monoxide in time.
Description of Work: They repaired our old furnace and did some emergency repair work for the company that put in our old furnace. They discovered that the furnace was putting out huge amounts of carbon dioxide, which they were able to replace it.

Unit threw the circuit breaker and wouldn't reset. After technician reset the air conditioner, he tested everything out to see what caused the breaker to trip. He was unable to find the root cause. However, there was a relay in the furnace that was stuck and was causing the fan to run nonstop. Relay was replaced and technician said I would not be charged a diagnostic charge if the air conditioner replicates its problem and they need to make another service call.

The estimate given was honest and fair, without games being played or up selling of unneeded equipment. Installation was sooner than originally planned, but scheduled to fit my needs. It took them all day to install the furnace - there were a few unexpected problems - but the work was done in a single day to fit my work schedule. The workings of the furnace were explained to me in detail, and I was given an opportunity to put the filter in so I would be able to do it again. Each stop of the installation was done with care and thought, making sure that the exhaust pipes were placed so that my near neighbors would not be exposed to the exhaust. An improperly "professionaly" installed water heater (put in by another company) exhaust problem was corrected, a chimney cap put in place. They were fun, playful, and extremely professional. Thank you John & Chad!

Our AC went out approximately the second day we turned it on. Since it and the furnace were originals from when we built the house and nothing energy efficient about them, it was decided the time had come. Having had a co-worker go through the process of replacing a furnace this past winter, I knew that one couldn't find out what replacements cost from the vendor or the installers. Thus, a visit and signing up with Angie. I spent a day going through the various contractors near us and reading the customer evaluations. There were four things that swayed me to GV: price, constant high marks from customers, the Angie 200 dollar coupon, and that GV was close to us. It was then time to make the big phone call. Spoke with GV and they had a salesman out the next day. Not only did they bid us on what we had discussed, but also gave us a low cost alternative. Fortunately, we took the higher cost high energy furnace as I just read that natural gas prices are expected to rise 30 to 100 percent this winter. Given that our AC wasn't working, they promised to get to us as soon as possible. Within a week they showed up on our doorstep, calling the day before, of course, explained what they were going to do, how they did it and off they went. They promised to have the a/c working before they left the first day and that there would be some finishing work the next day. Everything they said was exactly what happened. They left the house as clean or cleaner than they found it. took all the necessary info as they submit the rebates with Lennox and the utility companies, and left us cooler and presumably warmer, but one hopes that using the furnace won't be necessary for about six months. It's been about three weeks since they installed everything and the AC has worked perfectly. Plus, we have already received the Lennox rebate. I can't imagine a simpler or more satisfactory solution to our failed AC.

Even though this was a small job GV Heating & Air agreed to comb the unit and do an overall check of the unit. Steve arrived right on time and completed the work quickly. Upon checking the overall unit he told me it was in good shape and that no further work was necessary. Very pleased with the good service and honest evaluation of the unit.

Barb came out for an estimate. She was very friendly, informative and gave me a few choices that would work for my house. She returned my calls fairly quickly when I had questions and was willing to rework the written estimate when asked. Unfortunately, in the end, I went with another contractor based primarily on cost. GV Heating and Air came in above the other contractor when I requested the cost of a longer warranty that came automatically with the other bid.

Except for a couple issues, everything went perfectly. In fact, of all the companies we interviewed they were the best by far. The installation was a breeze. Barb, their sales rep., was very professional and knowledgeable. And, the central air installers were excellent. Still, we had a couple issues: 1) We used a credit card for the deposit with the understanding that we would be paying for the service after the work was completed (which included duct cleaning). Instead, GVH charged the entire amount to the original credit card *before* the duct cleaning was performed, and *without* letting us know in advance that they were going to do so. Well, this unexpected charge lowered our checking account below the minimum balance threshold, so the bank charged us a $15 penalty. Thankfully, GVH reimbursed us as soon as we called them, which prevented us from getting any additional penalties (each extra withdrawal would have been $15 each). 2) The duct cleaning person left dust and dirt all over our floors and laundry room, including some clothes on top of the washer. Consider reminding them to cover everything with tarps while cleaning your ducts.

I was disappointed. The appointment was for 7:30am and the gentleman arrived at 7:55 and was less than communicative. I asked him how things looked and he said fine. I mentioned that an energy audit guy had recommended I disconnect the combustion vent at the top of my furnace and could he explain that to me and he said he didn't know and that I'd have to refer to my paperwork (fair enough, I guess, since I didn't hire this guy to make energy recommendations). But then the guy didn't say much else to me at all! There was no explaining what he'd done to "tune up" my furnace, no evaluation of the condition of my furnace, and when I asked if he could guess how long the furnace might last, he replied defensively, "It could last another 25 years, I guess. It's really inefficient though." Then he mumbled something about a high level that it was giving off and gave me my receipt and a coupon for money off additional services, then left. I thought 'I just paid $97 and received no helpful information to make an educated decision on replacing my furnace.'To be fair, this wasn't ever promised to be a "sales call." The repairman did what I called and scheduled to have done. But with a furnace check/tune-up, I think it's fair to assume that I'd at least learn a little bit about the condition of my furnace. That didn't happen due to the personality of the repairman that was sent. They missed a great opportunity to convince me they knew their stuff and that I should call on them when the time comes to replace my furnace! I don't think I'll be calling them back to do the duct cleaning.
Description of Work: I called and scheduled a furnace cleaning and planned to call back to schedule duct cleaning. When I scheduled the furnace cleaning I asked if while they were here they could evaluate the condition of my furnace (guess at how long it'd continue to run) and it's efficiency. I was hoping to be educated and possibly receive a sales pitch about furnace replacement for when my furnace dies.

I THINK THE CUSTOMER SAYS IT ALL WHEN SHE SAID “THE REPAIRMAN DID WHAT I CALLED AND SCHEDULED TO HAVE DONE.” SHE ALSO WANTED TO KNOW “A LITTLE ABOUT THE CONDITION OF MY FURNACE” AND FOR THE TECHNICIAN TO “GUESS HOW LONG HER FURNACE WOULD LAST.” THERE IS NO WAY TO “GUESS” HOW LONG A FURNACE WILL LAST SO HE TOLD HER “IT COULD LAST ANOTHER 25 YEARS I GUESS, IT’S REALLY INEFFICIENT THOUGH.” THERE ARE MANY OLD FURNACES THAT HAVE BEEN RUNNING SAFELY FOR DECADES BUT ARE VERY INEFFICIENT COMPARED TO THE NEWER HIGH EFFICIENT FURNACES THAT ARE AVAILABLE TODAY. THE CUSTOMER SAID WE MISSED A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO CONVINCE HER. AT GV HEATING AND AIR WE DO NOT PRESSURE OR USE “SCARE TACTICS” TO GET PEOPLE TO BUY OUR PRODUCTS. AS THE CUSTOMER STATES, THIS WAS NEVER PROMISED TO BE A SALES CALL. WE DO PROVIDE SALES CALLS AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER; WE WILL GO TO THEIR HOME AT A TIME THAT IS CONVENIENT TO THEM AND PROVIDE A FREE QUOTE ON THE COST OF REPLACING THEIR EQUIPMENT.

Their work was EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!! I had received bids from 4 other companies, and felt this was the only only one I could TRUST to do the work. Example-1st bidder, didn't suggest I needed a new Cold return. He said I needed to agree to the work within 7 days as the "sale" is ending. Then when, leaving, his phone rang & he showed me a text message that would give me an additional $500 off if I hired him on the spot. Another bidder bid an undersized unit [all other's had bid the same capacity unit], & I learned he did that to low ball the price. His undersized furnace would run all the time in sub-zero weather. Another bidder wanted me to convince the City Inspector to grandfather in [what the furnace specs said not to do] a shortcut. With the last bidder, an electric company, I felt lack of experience. Brian, the owner/salesman of GV Heating & Air, knows the business & understood our needs. He was patient and likable. The install crew was very good and their work was done on time witho

For those out there who want a trustworthy company [who can size your house without even doing a 'heat loss' calculation], GV heating is the one. REMEMBER, WHEN IT COMES TO THE "HEAT LOSS" CALCULATION, ANY CONTRACTOR CAN COME UP WITH WHATEVER THEY WANT TO. This can be a phony baloney thing--just call your city inspector & he will say the same thing. There was one contractor I would not trust since they purposely bid an undersized unit. Watch out for them--they are on Angie's List as a recommended contractor!!!!!!!!!!!!

I spoke with Brian, who, when I asked how he would determine the correct furnace size for our home, said, "I've been doing this for years... I can just about tell when I drive up." He said he would do a heat loss calculation (which we've read is essential in sizing the furnace correctly for the home) "if need be." We decided to get estimates from other companies that definitely told us they calculate the heat loss and the needed furnace size.

The service technician came within the 1.5 hours he quoted on a Sunday morning. He was equipped with the tools required to complete the job and the replacement fan motor. Though it took him 1/4 hour more than he anticipated due to a stubborn motor shaft, on completion he adjusted the fan speed and made some recommendations to prevent future dirt build up on the furnace motor. He did a very good job and left a good impression. I intend to contact them for an estimate on a furnace replacement.

They were professional and neat. Their price was really in the right ballpark. They did what they said they were going to do in the amount of time they said they'd do it. They were very clear about their product. The installation was excellent as well. The guys came out, they answered all of my questions, were very careful, took away the old unit and just did a great job. I would use them again.

I called the Golden Valley Heating and they set up an appointment convenient for me. They arrived at the house at the time promised. As the ducts were being cleaned, Phil discussed my concerns with the zone. He started right on, i.e., but said it would take 2 trips in order to get parts needed. They cleaned the ducts and replaced the furnace filter. They replaced the thermostats, replaced the humidifier and corrected the hook up to the hot water instead of the cold water, and replaced the master zone unit. They were prompt, friendly and explained the maintenance for the system. They cleaned up completely and finished as promised.
Description of Work: Repaired a prior heating problem with a 2 zone house. A new furnace was put in by a different company. That company disconnected the zone but stated that was the way they found it. There was no control in the lower level of the house and the windows were getting too much moisture on them. I also discussed the duct had not been cleaned in 2 years. They said to fix the zone problem and knew the ducts would cost me an additional $5000.00.

They did a great job. They were very professional, punctual and they explained everything they did. They did all of the work correctly, they were able to lower the carbon monoxide levels just by adjusting the gas in my home whereas another company told me I would need a whole new furnace. There is not one negative thing I could say about them and I would highly recommend them.

I received 3 estimates and GV was the only one that could determine a way to install a high efficiency furnace due to venting requirements, all the others said it couldn't be done. One top of that, they were within $100 of the competitors and because it was high efficiency, I qualified for some rebates so in the long run, it will be much cheaper than other estimates. They sent 2 guys, here on time each day and they did high quality work and left the place very neat. They also spent a lot of time explaining the new system to me which I really appreciated. I highly recommend them.

I called them to set up an appointment to have my furnace and gas Vermont cast iron stove used to heat our family room checked for the winter. I had described what I meant by "gas stove" and the receptionist put it down on the order as "space heater." When Eric arrived he noticed the stove in the family room and informed me that they did not check these types of gas appliances. I was a bit disappointed as I thought I had both covered for maintenance with this one call. Eric worked efficiently on the furnace, changed out a crusty filter in our humidifier and then offered to at least do a CO test on the gas stove. That CO reading was very high in comparison to our furnace ratings, and he suggested I call the store where the stove was purchased to determine what that reading meant. We did, and everything was okay, but it was great he made that suggestion to us. He left everything in very good shape, was prompt in doing the invoice and I was happy with the work.

After having a disappointing experience with another company, I was looking for a new company to do the annual service on our furnace and air conditioning systems. I signed up for another company's plan, but found it to be surprisingly expensive once I had to pay extra for servicing the humidifier and air cleaner filters. Still looking, I turned to Angie's List for help and, after calling several companies for estimates, I decided to ask Golden Valley Heating to service our air conditioner. Not only did Phil service the air conditioner, but he also explained how to keep air flowing efficiently around our house for the zone system to provide air conditioning most efficiently. GV Heating came back this Fall for the annual tune-up for our furnace. I almost fell over when I saw Phil cleaning our furnace with his vacuum and a TOOTHBRUSH!! He disassembled the humidifier control to clean it and found, probably, 25+ years of lint clogging the control! WOW!
Description of Work: Phil inspected, tested and cleaned our furnace and tested the zone system. He inspected and cleaned the humidifier attached to the furnace and replaced the Air Cleaner filter.

They came in and removed the old unit. The workers were young but knowledgeable. They were neat and spread out tarp so they did not get the carpet dirty. They were efficient and knew what they were doing. They were prompt and did the job to our satisfaction. The pricing was competitive.

It took awhile to get someone out for an estimate, and we had to reschedule it a couple of times. One time on the same day, which was irksome as I had planned my day around it. Once they came out, they were friendly, discussed the project with me and gave us a verbal estimate to do the work. We received the written estimate within a couple of days, and it was higher than originally projected. Based on this, and the fact that we weren't entirely happy with the work they were proposing, we decided to go with a different company.

WE ARE HAPPY TO HEAR THAT YOU WOULD “HIRE US AGAIN” EVEN THOUGH WE HAVEN’T EVER DONE ANY WORK FOR THEM PREVIOUSLY OR OF COURSE ON THIS PROJECT. I KNOW THAT WE HAD A PROBLEM HOOKING UP TO LOOK AT THE DUCTING/GASSING PROJECT AND HAD MENTIONED THAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO GET BY WITHIN A WEEK OR SO AS WE WERE SWAMPED WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING QUOTES WITH SUPER HOT SUMMER WE HAD AND WHEN I WAS IN THE AREA I WOULD GIVE A CALL AND SWING BY. I GAVE A “BALL PARK QUOTE” AT THE HOME AND FIGURED OUT THAT I WOULD PROVIDE AN EXACT PRICE WHEN I WAS AT THE OFFICE. THERE WAS CUSTOM DUCTING TO BE MADE TO ACCOMMODATE THE CUSTOMER TO OBTAIN MAXIMUM CEILING HEIGHT AND THE ACTUAL COST WAS A BIT MORE THAN THE BALL PARK, THAT IS WHY WE FIGURE EACH JOB SO THAT WE PROVIDE A “HARD NUMBER” SO OUR CUSTOMERS KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE JOB WILL COST THEM. THE QUOTE THAT I PROVIDED WAS WHAT I HAD DISCUSSED WITH HER WHEN I MET WITH HER ON THE PROJECT.

Very polite and competent technician was able to diagnose the problem, which was a slow air conditioning leak. He got a quote for the remainder of the work, we made an appointment to complete it later. The repair work was completed as promised, neatly and successfully. The technician showed up on schedule both times. Great job.
Description of Work: Diagnosed cooling problem, recharged system, replaced A-coil to eliminate a leak.
