Estimate was much higher than others. Salesman emphasized size of tax rebate rather than overall low price. I used this company for service a few years ago and was satisfied, but the cost this time was much too high for identical work performed by a different company.

When people shop for new equipment, there are some that shop for the lowest price and some that shop for quality, company reputation, warranty’s and many other variables. One of the situations we see very often is customer’s who purchased their equipment from companies that we very inexpensive but when they have a problem and try to contact the company that installed their equipment, they find that they are not longer in business. Our company is not going to be the lowest price all of the time. We have been in business since 1938 and pride ourselves on our years of experience in sales and installation of high quality products. We have been there for our customers for decades and will continue to be there for them for years to come.

They identified the issue and replaced the part. That simple! I wasn't home when they did the job. They called me to keep me informed. What can I say, they did the job, were professional, were easy to work with, and I'm "cool" again! :)

He came out early Monday afternoon; after inspection he replaced bad contactor and fuse and washed concensor coils and tested operation with small amount of R22 added; everything tested OK. He would not leave until all my questions about my AC were adequately answered. He assured me that as old as my system was, it was still very reliable. He was professional, very nice to work with, prompt, the work was very well done. We're extremely happy and would definately use them again.
Description of Work: Central air conditioning fan and condensor did not come on. After checking on Angies List we contacted someone close to us, Golden Valley Heating & Air Conditioning. Because we contacted them late Friday afternoon, they could not be available until Monday; fortunately Saturday and Sunday was not that hot.

Overall it went well. The things I didn't like were that they never called me back to schedule an appointment after I had submitted the downpayment of $500, I had to call them. Their start time is between 6:30 and 7a and after telling them it was not going to work for me, it ended up being the only option and I had already paid so I had to go with it. The installers that worked on my place were upset because they thought the job was going to take them longer than one day to complete and they both were supposed to have the next day off. They complained to me about it and told me that if they didn't finish they'd be back on Tuesday to finish (it was presently Thursday). I could tell they were a little unhappy that I was there while they were installing. It made me nervous that I left for 3 hrs and came back to find they had finished, particularly after just having them complain to me about thinking they wouldn't be able to finish in one day and would have to come back. Left me wondering if they rushed to get the job done. They didn't explain the unit to me after they had finished installing it until I asked - it seemed they were just in a hurry to get out the door, I had to ask them to explain everything to me (where the filter was located, auto shut-off, special instructions, etc). I was told the used AC unit was "like new" and it has dents on it from hail damage and a nail sticking out the bottom of it (not sure what that's all about). They left me with a bit of a mess because they only had a broom with them to clean up their mess and it required a vaccum so I had to clean up my carpeted floors after they left. The service person in their office who answers the phones is a bit rude. Things that went well: when I called them to schedule the installation, they were able to get me in within 2 days, they were ontime, they stuck to task, other than the complaining they were nice and I trusted them enough to leave them to go run errands and there was no issues, both units seemed to work fine. The AC unit despite it's visual dents worked in 90 degree 70% humidity weather for a few days straight after installation without issue and they guaranteed 2 years full warranty parts and labor on it. Overall I'd probably use them again just because they were kind enough to tell me about a rehab rebate program that my city offered (Crystal) and 5 other companies that I also got estimates from failed to mention it to me. That's over a $1000 savings for me, which pretty much won my business because I felt they were the most forth-right and honest.
Description of Work: They replaced my furnace with a 95% high efficiency unit (Amana) and a used AC unit from Lennox that was recovered from a job they did when the tornados went through Hugo (they assured me it was just like new and worked fine) in my 890 sq ft. condo. They had to add a PVC pipe through the attic as well for the high efficiency unit.

We are very happy that she would hire us again to do work for her and she felt that over all it went well. We are also happy that we could let here know about the rebate program from the City of Crystal. As she stated, we were the only company who told her about the rebate program out of the five sales quotes she received, so we did help her save over $1000.00. Our installers start early in the morning. The reason for this is that most jobs take more than 8 hours to complete. We have them on four 10 hour days so as not to upset the household more days than needed. The crew at this home has over 30 years of combined experience , so having a customer home while they are doing their work has never been a problem. The crew was scheduled to be off the following day therefore they wanted to finish the job in one day. Fortunately, one of our other crews got finished with their job early that day and went over to her job to assist the installers so that they could finish in one day. We feel that the few negative comments were due to personality differences more than unsatisfactory service. Since we “won her business” -we would welcome the opportunity to work with this member again in the future

We contacted GV Heating and A/C because our furnace would not stay lit (we electronic ignition). Eric came out, and determined that the flame sensor was dirty, and that was the issue. He cleaned the sensor and performed routine maintenance on the furnace. He checked the A/C unit out and determined that a mouse had built a nest in the electrical chase. He removed the nest, and round a dead mouse. The mouse was chewing on the wires, and was electricuted. He removed all of the debris, and plugged the electrical chase with some putty. He also performed routine maintenance on the A/C unit. The whole time Eric was very nice, and answered all of my questions to my satisfaction. He was on time to the appointment, and was done in about 50 minutes. I would definitely recommend GV Heating and A/C, and will use them in the future too.

Overall, the installation itself went well. The complete job was done on schedule, and within under two days. I appreciate how both Scott and Susan worked with me in getting this done, as I was applying for several energy rebates, the largest of which was rapidly being used up so it was under a time crunch. Their installers took the time to explain the system. cleaned up very well, and were courteous. However, I am not happy about one aspect of the water heater installation. My old water heater was a 50 gallon, and since the conntract clearly stated replacement, I assumed that meant that the size of the new water heater would be the same, but it is only a 40 gallon. The size is not specified on the contract, and my assumption was that 'replace' meant I would be getting the same size. I did not realize the size was smaller until it had already been installed. I immediately brought it to their attention but was told that this was the home show special package. (I had not attebted the home show and had told Scott that at his sales presentation in my home.) I wanted them to replace the new 40 gallon with a 50 gallon, but he told me that the new 40s are equivalent to older 50s and that it is meant for a household size of 4 to 6 people. He also sugeested increasing the temperature setting. Because I had to get the completed paperwork submitted as quickly in order to be able to get the rebate money, I was in a bind and decided to trust that it would meet our needs as Scott described. However, it has not. After two months of trying to cut down the length of showers and time them differently to avoid running out of hot water, I am very disappointed. We have several people trying to get ready for work in a short period of time, and the hot water available has not been adequate. I believe GV should replace this water heater with the size I had before, as I wanted them to do the day the wrong size was installed.

It is good to hear that our job overall went well and on schedule as usual. Glad to hear that our installers took the usual time to explain all. We feel confident in our water heater sizing but have included an article from the larger home improvement store in our area to clarify/justify.... Shopping for a new water heater can be daunting. Because it is such a large purchase, it is important to make sure you get the right one for your home and specific needs. Whether you are in the market to replace an old water heater or want to upgrade to a bigger size, here is the information you need to make the right decision. Storage tank water heaters are designated by the amount of water they hold, in gallons. Tank size is one of the major considerations when purchasing one of these water heaters. If you intend to use a storage tank water heater, use our chart as a guide to finding the size you need. It went well. Brian came out to quote promptly. Because my house is almost all windows, and because of the placement of the furnace room, it was difficult to work out the venting of the furnace. I wasn't thrilled with his solution (it was going to come out of the front of the house by the front door), but it appeared to be the only workable solution. When the guys came out to install, they found another way to do it and still stay within code, and I am much happier with this solution than I would have been with the other. They were in and out as scheduled and cleaned everything up. The only glitch was that the pan that the air condition coil sits in (I think I'm saying this correctly) was rusted and because it was so old it couldn't be replaced. The only solution was to replace the coil, so I spent $1000 more than planned. However, I had been considering replacing the air condition all together, and the tech told me he really didn't think I needed to do that. So, I spent less than I could have, but more than I had planned.
Description of Work: Installed a new high efficiency furnace ($4425 quoted), and replaced air conditioner master coil (not planned and cost $1000) and thermostat.

I have had GV in to do this many times before. The issue I had on this occasion was that they promised to match Standard's $89 special, a $20 discount from their original quote over the phone. When presented with the invoice by the technician, they only included a $10 price reduction, to $99. I explained that they agreed to $89, so the tech called the office to confirm. The office stated they agreed to $99, not $89. The tech then begrudgingly reduced the bill to $89, charging me an additional $10 for a part, which I was fine with. I didn't appreciate the tech attitude at all. He didn't seem to believe me, and obviously did not feel he should honor the agreed upon price. I don't know about you, but I'm not accustomed to being treated with mistrust by my service providers. Does GV really think I would jack them around for $10? Instead of being grateful for my many years of business with them, the tech acted as though I was trying to "game" them. Thant's not good customer service. They should have apologized for their mistake and cheerfully adjusted the bill. I have no reason to believe the work wasn't done properly, and have used them in the past with good results, so I am recommending them, but please GV, how about service with a smile?

We purchased our furnace from GV Htg and Air a little over 5 years ago and asked them to do a check-up on it as we head into the heating season. As always, GV came through with flying colors from prompt scheduling to friendly, superb service. The tech, Phil, was on time, walked through the check-list of things that were done, answered questions, and provided suggestions for general maintenance. He also remembered us, our furnace, and a minor service/repair job that he performed awhile back that we'd forgotten about. There was also no doubt that he really knows "his stuff" and cares about his customers.

Both employees arrived at the times quoted. Since it had been snowing during the day, the first employee put protective guards on his shoes so that he would not track anything into our home. He was shown to the furnance area and began his work. He did show me the filter and said that it was a good thing we were getting our vents cleaned - we needed to be a little more diligent on replacing the filter. He was done in a very timely manner. The second employee arrived and took off his shoes right away. He did track in some dirt with one of his machines but had it cleaned up before I could even get the vacuum cleaner out to do it. He explained the entire process and then began. Since we have a lot of vents, it took him about three hours to complete the entire job. The job was quoted and we were not charged for this long period. We had received a reminder postcard from the company as a reminder to do this work and I am very appreciative of this customer service.
Description of Work: The first employee came to do the annual furnance check (we had purchased our heating system from them). The second employee arrived (just as the first was finishing up) to clean the air vents - which we had never had done before.

I decided to go somehwere else. Note to Angies list: Please fix your report editing criteria. I never had any work done but your application requires a work completion date in order to accept my report. So I had to enter a bogus work completion date.
Description of Work: I called to schedule an air duct cleaning and was told that they only scheduled this service in the evenings. The scheduler told me that the person who does the cleaning is only employed by GV on a part time basis and that he works another full time job. I was told that, during the week, GV schedules air duct cleaning to start between 4PM and 5PM and the process can take as long as 5 hours. 10:00 in the evening before the job is completed? I think not! GV offered to send somebody out on a Saturday, during the day, but I think I'll look elsewhere.

This is in response to the above report. The member called and inquired about duct cleaning. I told him since most people work during the day we schedule duct cleaning in the evenings, which did not work with his schedule. I told him we also schedule appointments on the weekends to accommodate people’s busy schedules and we could be there in the morning at a time that would be most convenient for him. He declined the offer and said that he would go elsewhere for his duct cleaning. We at Golden Valley Heating and Air understand that people have busy, hectic lives, and we do our utmost to be accommodating to people’s schedules, whether we are installing new equipment, or providing services such as repairs or duct cleaning. Unfortunately, as accommodating as we try to be to our thousands of customers, it doesn’t always workout for everyone. Angie’s List is for reporting work performed by contractors and we have an “A” grade from those reporting on work we have actually provided for them. Since we did not perform any work for the member and he had to put a “bogus” date for service I feel his report does not reflect any actual service provided.

We went into this knowing nothing about HVAC systems and requirements. I liked that the GV representative used to install systems so was very knowledgeable and experienced. Considering that it can be a hassle to take time off to meet with contractors - it was well worth it because we learned a lot. The representative took the time to explain his recommendations and why he made the recommendations. We found him to be informative and candid. He gave us a quote on the spot, and responded quickly to our follow-up calls and emails. We did however select another provider that recommended a simpler system that was less expensive. If we weren't so constrained on funds, GV would have been our top pick.
Description of Work: We were looking into replacing a gravity furnace with a high efficiency furnace. The house is older and required additional ductwork and we ultimately decided to have the basement and attic zoned.

The technician, Phil, completed the furnace cleaning and inspection as expected. As he was leaving, he said everything checked out ok. I expressed relief, as I had smelled a faint smell of gas in there once and had been told I may need to replace a part at some point. He got concerned and went down to re-check. This time, he found a small gas leak and recommended I change the parts. He offered an explanation as to why he hadn't found it in his inspection, and I honestly can't remember what he said, but remained concerned that his initial inspection failed to identify the leak. The furnace cleaning fee was $99.95 and was less expensive than 2 other companies I called. The repair added $215 to the bill due to a pricey part, and I have no idea if this is a competitive cost or not.
Description of Work: Basic furnace cleaning and inspection. Found a small gas leak and replaced malfunctioning part.

They came out to my house and gave me a bid to replace my 22 year old furnace with a new 95%+ efficiency Lennox furnace, a total home air filter and a new thermostat. I obtained a few other bids and although GV heating was not the lowest, they were very competitive, the quality and reputation of the Lennox products made it a pretty easy decision. There was no pressure throughout the bid process, I simply returned a signed copy of the proposal with the down payment and they called a few days later to schedule the installation within a few days of receiving the executed proposal. They arrived on time, took the time to answer any of my questions and explain exactly what they were going to do and what I could expect. Everything went as expected without an issue. These people from the office staff, owner and installers are true professionals that really care about your satisfaction as a customer. I would highly recommend them if you want top quality products at a very reasonable price.
