Since I am a landscape architect, the project design was based on a landscape plan for my back yard that I created myself. In the plan I included two rock gardens which i wanted to look like natural rock outcrops despite having to create them in my small, flat, rock-free yard in Saint Paul. When selecting a contractor, I was especially interested in finding one who had worked with boulders and/or rock gardens. I wanted someone who knew intuitively how rocks should be combined and positioned to give a natural look and who would take the time to do it right. I doubt that I could have done better than I did with Jason Rathe and his crew at Field Outdoor Spaces. Jason was intimately involved throughout the construction and was on site nearly every day. The crew of young men (and woman) impressed me with their expertise, professionalism, and enthusiasm. Everyone at Field takes pride in their work. They listened to my concerns and were willing to make (and take)suggestions for improvements. Care was taken not to damage the existing lawn. The site was kept clear of debris and materials were kept organized in a staging area. Deciding on the type of stone and bricks was a cooperative effort of Jason and myself. Building the rock gardens was done with the attitude of creating works of art. Although I did not consult Field about plants for my yard, it was nevertheless apparent to me that this firm has a respect for natural systems and knows their plants. Everyone who has come to my yard since the project's completion stops in their tracks and immediately comments positively, especially about the rock gardens. Jason has a good eye for the aesthetic touch, and it was always good to hear his opinions. If you are looking for an intelligent approach for naturalistic design, I recommend Field Outdoor Spaces.

Jason arrived promptly for the estimate, gave me a proposed plan that was very thoughtful and then was willing to tweak the plan to refine some of the plant selections. He was very flexible in working with me to schedule the work around some other projects being done at the front of the house. When it was time to actually install the new landscaping, his crew was efficient, prompt and left everything in good order. Jason also has been great at answering my follow-up questions about plant care, etc. I'm looking forward to enjoying the results this coming year!

They did a very good job of explaining exactly what they could do and how much it would cost. They also tried to work with me on something that would be within my budget. They even gave me some education about what was there in my yard. I decided not to go this time for the landscaping just because of the other priorities. However, I was very impressed with the lady who came to hive the quote and her knowledge was also impressive.

They were great! I called them on a weekend and told them I needed some last minute garden clean-up. They came out and gave me a quote. They were very prompt with coming out. They e-mailed me a quote right away. They were very good with about their follow up, and they were very timely. I did't end up using them because my sister n' law was able to do it for me. If I ever did need someone to do the work, I would use them. They were very professional.

They are an excellent company. They were very easy to work with. We worked with three different crews and they were all very professional, personable, and communicative. They had good ideas and their work was very good.

They did a really great job and have created a wonderful courtyard-style garden for my corner city lot.

They had to remove all of the landscape rock that was around my old landscaping. They pulled out all of the old shrubbery, and they also had to re-grade the land. They also brought in new dirt, designed new plantings. They planted everything, mulched the whole area, and it only took about two and a half days to get everything finished. It took less time than I had expected.

Jason contacted me right away and came over to see the yard and talk about my project in a timely fashion. He came up with a terrific plan and an estimate that was within the budget discussed. He gave us a tentative date and delivered on time! He was very flexible and made changes up to the last minute. I would definitely use this company again without hesitation.

Since I felt completely at a loss to know what to do about my yard, I trusted his judgment and his design sense. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. For each phase the crew was there for two days. They were all clean cut, respectful, and very professional. We are still in awe of the job they did. In fact I have one more job for them to do this summer, and that is to redo an old patio and rock garden. I wouldn't think of having anyone else but Field do it.

Shannon is amazing to work with. She offered many suggestions regarding our yard that I would have never thought of. The crew was on time, efficient, and left not a trace of the old tree. I was also extremely pleasantly surprised by the low price of disposal of the old tree (included in total). The new tree was planted well and is thriving. Highly recommended!
