Here is our experience using Exell Ceramic Tile! Nine months after our new master bath was tiled by Exell we noticed some of the tile on the floor was starting to loosen. A call was placed to Val and a detailed message about the problem was left. No return call from Val. In the next couple of months the grout between the tiles continued to chip out and more and more tiles became unattached on the floor. Once covid hit we had to wait to have the problem addressed. This summer we had a very reputable tile layer assess and fix the problem. Here are his words describing what he discovered. “The problem was when installing a porcelain tile over self-leveler, you need to either prime it with a latex primer or use an anti-fracture membrane. The anti-fracture membrane is a better choice because cracks will not transfer though the tile. You need to use one of the 2 because the self-leveler is very porous and porcelain tile is not. The result is what happened here. The thinset binds to the self-leveler and pulls all the moisture out too fast making it so it will not bond to the tile. That is why I was able to pull up the entire floor and reinstall it. Not one bit of thinset was stuck to the tile. The tile was just sitting on the floor loose. Had it been a wall it would have fallen off. The actual tile work looked above average, it was just a lack of knowledge on installing porcelain over a very porous surface.” The cost was $1500 to remove and reinstall our bathroom floor with an anti-fracture membrane. A letter requesting a reimbursement for this expense was sent to a confirmed address with delivery confirmation. It stated he had one month to pay us or we would write a bad review and start a BBB claim. Sadly Val choose to blow us off! Clearly Exell Tile was at fault for the poor installation and it astonished us that Val choose to ignore our reasonable request to be reimbursed. PLEASE BEWARE and take this warning to heart!!!! Here’s an interesting update: the grout in the master shower is now starting to crack!

Val deserves an A+ for responsiveness and he came up with a great solution for a very out of level older floor. He was also very agreeable. When he and Roman (also very personable) left it was impossible to check the work as there was wet product all over so I just went ahead and paid them. Afterward I began to notice things. There were faint concrete tracks all up and down my flagstone walkway, concrete material was splashed on walls and even on the ceiling and a new tub that was in the bathroom portion. Most alarming though was that after a couple days of feeling sick we discovered that when they moved the water heater to allow material to flow under it the heater was left at and angle, dislodging the exhaust pipe and venting exhaust from the gas water heater directly into the house. I sent a text and photo to Val and he assured me he would be out the next day. Not nearly good enough. Fortunately we were able to level out the heater and reattach the exhaust. Val did return at my request and didn’t seem to notice the footprints on the stone walkway until it was pointed out and then offered no real solution. He also disputed whether the walls/ceiling that were splashed had been primed. Since I had sheetrocked, taped and primed them myself (former pro) I was a bit put out by his insistence that I hadn’t done so. He may have misunderstood the difference between primed and primed AND painted. I had not painted the walls. Now more repair will be needed.

Val did an amazing job on my addition which included a bathroom. His price, quality and finish was excellent. Honestly it the best contractor I’ve worked with. If you have tile work, call Val.

Amazing. Val and his team are fantastic and easy to work with. Every step of the process was simple and they helped me with several parts of the install I thought was above and beyond. By far the easiest home project I’ve ever completed and it’s all thanks to Excell! Thanks again! I’ll definitely be hiring again for my next project.

Really well. Val and Roman did a great job. Every other company I contacted said we would need to demo the entire bathroom. Val knew immediately that he could just demo the shower floor, rebuild the base and re-tile. They finished in 2 days as they said and the results are excellent.

Great communication throughout the project, advice that proved knowledgeable and a perfect end product. We would go with Exell again for any tile work.

Great and on time work! Val came out quickly to do the initial quote. We scheduled the dates for the work soon thereafter. Val and his tiler were punctual, neat, offered a few suggestions, and completed the job on time.

Val and his team did a wonderful job updating my bathroom. They were always willing to answer my questions before and during the project. Since the update was to my only bathroom, they were able to stage the project so that I didn’t have to find alternate accommodations during the time which was greatly appreciated. They always cleaned up at the end of each day and hauled away all the debris. I would definitely hire them again for future projects.

Thanks to Angie's List we found Exell Ceramic Tile and Stone Co. Val gave us an estimate, and on the scheduled day started removing vanity, toilet and tile. We were impressed how clean the area was kept by the crew as work progressed. Whenever we had any questions, Val responded in a timely manner (which meant a lot to us). This is the second time we have used Val for a bathroom remodel. Val is very good at talking though your plan with you. This time we ran into a couple of hiccups. The first was when we removed the back shower wall, there were studs and pipes where we wanted to place an inset shelf. We looked at the available space and came up with a plan B that in the end, I like much better than my original plan. Secondly, my husband broke a tub pipe when he went to remove it. Val was great at helping us get it fixed since the plumbers we called were three weeks out. Val took care of all of the tiling and installation of the shower door. Val is very fair in pricing. I would use him a third time if I had another bathroom to remodel.

Everything went great! Val was very responsive and got the work done when we both agreed. His team does excellent work and was very professional in how they communicate. Pricing was in the middle of other quotes but very fair. Would highly recommend them!

Hiring this company was great! Val was quick to provide a very reasonable quote & super easy to work with. Paul, did a superb job with tiling & the results are professional & just as I wanted. They were on-time, worked hard & completed this project in a very short time frame (just as they predicted). I would definitely hire them again. (Also, cleaned up work area & were very careful on my new wood floors).

Exell Tile did an excellent job problem solving a leaky shower, repairing, and refurbishing the shower. Previous craftsmen could not determine the cause of the leak and Val wrote the proposal to include the two possibilities. Paul’s work was excellent and I appreciated his attention to clean up in our bathroom. The only issue lay in paperwork. It was difficult to get a formal estimate, difficult to get a start date, and even more difficult to get an invoice that indicated the work was paid in full. Our house needed to be ready to put on the market so timing was critical as was a written invoice indicating the bill had been paid. In the end, Val did get the job done in time to repair the damage in the kitchen from the leak and did send an invoice. Despite the hiccups with paperwork, I'd hire him again for his expertise in pinpointing the problem and the quality of the work performed by Exell.

Val and Paul did a great job with the tile installation and with making suggestions on tile, grout, and mortar purchases. Their quote was lower than others and they were great to work with! The kitchen flooring was about 250sf and cost about $2800 including cement board and installation of the board and tile/grout. The bathroom was about 45sf and including removal of old tile (about 15sf) and installation of tile/grout. Cost $700. We purchased all the tile, grout and mortar separately.

Everything went very well. Val explained all of the work and process. The quality of work and attention to detail is important to me as well as the care of keeping the surrounding area clean. They were excellent in all of this and the work was complete in 1.5 days (their estimate was 2 days). I would definitely hire them again.

Al in all pretty good. Needed to fix a couple minor issues, but they came out and took care of everythig in a timely manner.

They did an absolutely unbelievable job!!! They were wonderful to work with and did an outstanding job. At completion, they cleaned up and disposed of all of the trash. No need to look elsewhere, these guys are the best!!
