Executive Remodeling serves the Twin Cities area specializing in additions, kitchens, bathrooms, basements, roofing, siding, and windows. We are insurance restoration experts, and also offer custom 3d designs. The company is a small family owned business with a focus on systems, communication and craftsmanship. Each year Executive Remodeling gives back part of its profit to habitat for humanity, big Brothers big sisters, and various youth sports teams.
Description of Work: We did a complete demo & renovation of the basement. Early in the project, there was a lack of communication that resulted in us not knowing what to expect on any given day. Also, the subcontractors were juggling multiple jobs & often didn't show up when expected. This resulted in the project dragging out for several months. About halfway through, Mike sold the business, & the new owners were intentional about wrapping up existing jobs before taking on more. Both the communication & cadence improved. The finished product is a very usable & bright living space. We were not able to fundamentally change the layout due to fixed features (stairs, fireplace, furnace), but the results are satisfactory. In general, the workmanship was very good, though a couple of the subs needed to return to correct some relatively minor issues. The employees of Executive Remodeling (especially Duane) were responsive & easy to work with. I would guardedly recommend this company, as we went through the ownership change, but I expect the new owners will work hard to improve the communication & scheduling issues we experienced.

Stay away if you are looking for professional or prompt service. I had an appointment with Executive Exteriors to check out my project and give me an estimate for the project but I had a conflict and cancelled with over 24 hours notice and asked specifically to reschedule my appointment as I was interested in their services. The problems started here. The following day right before my scheduled appointment time I received a call confirming the appointment I had cancelled the day prior. I explained my situation and was very apologetic with the estimator and after she trash talked their companies internal communication we set up a new time 48 hours in the future. My new appointment day and time arrived and exactly at the time they were supposed to be arriving I received a call from the owner of Executive Exteriors Mike Sower. He apologized that his estimator had gone home sick that day so they needed to cancel the appointment. I questioned why they waited until the last minute to cancel my appointment and he blamed his estimator for not letting him know she was leaving early on the correct phone number. I told Mike what my impressions were of his business thus far but still gave him the benefit of the doubt and scheduled my third appointment for the following afternoon. He assured me that he was going to be personally involved and knock my socks off with quality services. The next day Mike didn't have the courage to call me and cancel. He simply sent me an email bowing out. Long story short... I had two appointments with this company that I adjusted my schedule to meet and both times at the last minute they cancelled. Their estimator and the owner himself both complained of internal employee communications. I have since found a much better company to do my work and am satisfied that I didn't continue my agony with this company. I can only imagine the issues that would have ensued if I actually hired them to do my project.

We hired Executive Exteriors to finish our basement. It was approximately 400 square feet, and it consisted of adding a bathroom and a living room. We signed the contract with them at the end of July with an approximate start date of August 13th. We never heard from them unless we emailed or called them, and when we tried to find out the start date (after August 13th had come and gone) they gave us excuses about signing other jobs, etc. They finally started in the middle of September. I realize that this was only a month later, however, we had to replace the furnace and A/C before they could start the job, so we rushed to have that done by August 13th. Plus, we cleaned everything out of our basement in preparation for the August start date, so waiting the extra four weeks without any communication from the company was extremely frustrating. Once the work started, we found out our original project manager had quit, so a new project manager had to come in and basically re-learn the extent and details of our project. In the interim we communicated with the owner of the company, Mike, since he was acting as the pseudo-project manager, however, the communication from Mike to our new project manager and to the other sub-contractors was extremely poor. There were many times when we came back to the house after a sub was working where it wasn't the way we wanted or what we had communicated to Mike originally. There were also many times when things we had discussed prior to beginning the job and were in our estimate would suddenly cost more than what we were led to believe. For example, Mike had decided to discount the electrical work $600 to cover a sub-panel that needed to be added because we were a little over budget. At the time, I was very appreciative of his flexibility and willingness to stay close to our budget, and still include important necessities. Then, once the work was actually being completed, I got a call from Mike saying that there will be no discount for the sub panel. He told me that he never would discount the sub panel work (even though it was in the original scope and estimate) and that it must have been a misunderstanding on my part... he then blamed it on the and quot;Estimatorand quot; Dave. As if that wasn't bad enough, he conference calls Dave and proceeds to ream out his employee with me on the line. The saddest part about this was that it wasn't Dave's mistake, it was Mike's. In the end, Mike ended up honoring the discount which is good because it was in the contract. Needless to say, Dave ended up leaving the company before our job was concluded. So, three people quit the company during our job (there was another person, the and quot;Interior Designerand quot; that quit as well). I don't know if all of these people were overworked because the owner was booking more jobs than he could manage or what, but it was definitely a chaotic and disorganized management group. There were also delays caused by Mike waiting to order doors or the correct supplies that caused the job to take longer than it should have. I was very disappointed with the selections available to us through EE's and quot;vendorsand quot;. When it came time to choose different trims, doors, and things of that nature, the selection was horrendous... probably because their only vendor was Home Depot. If HD didn't have it, Mike would ask us to go pick out and pay for whatever we wanted and he would credit our bill. Once again, it was very inconvenient and frustrating for us. The two main employees (Tim and Quinn) that completed our job were often times trying to find things to work on because they couldn't complete the scheduled task due to ineptitude by their management to get everything ordered and ready for installation. Tim (our and quot;project managerand quot;), was great, he communicated the best of anyone at EE and I wish the company had more people like him. Overall, Executive Exteriors finished our basement, and the end result is close to what we wanted. The workmanship by the people at the house doing the job was good, and the quality of the sub-contractors (e.g., electrician, plumber) was great. My main complaint was the lack of communication between EE and us, and EE and the people actually doing the work. This is the reason I would not recommend EE to people I know. I feel there are other companies that could do quality work without the hassles that we went through.
Description of Work: We finished our basement and added a 3/4 bathroom. Overall, the job was about 375 square feet. Services included rough-in of plumbing, all framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, and flooring were completed.

We are very satisfied with the installation and look of our replacement roofing. We have lots of landscaping around our house, and the crew took the necessary precaution to avoid any damage. Marco and his crew worked closely with us to understand our needs, and answered all of our questions. They were friendly and did an excellent job of picking up every day. The whole team worked with us to make sure we were satisfied! As with any remodeling, communication is key. I recommend spending the time to review all details such as materials used, special requests, timeframe, etc.

They have an unprofessional presentation. They do door to door sales. There was an eagerness to do the work at a low price and they also tried to contact me repeatedly to get my business.

Dear member thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback about your experience during one of our esitmates. We're sorry to hear you decided to hire someone else for the project; however, I am a little confused about your negative feedback and comments. You state "there was an eagerness to do the work at a low price" "they do door-to-door sales" and "they also tried to contact me repeatedly to get my business"!!! You say all these things like they're not good solid sales traits that any company who wants to survive in today's economy needs! I try to teach my team to stay competitive with our pricing, creative with our marketing, and persistent with our estimates to not only survive but to grow! I feel these traits are what make us a strong company- and is what's necessary to grow and survive what many other contractors are going under. Regarding your door-to-doors sales comment, we think there's a lot of negative connotations with that phrase that DEFINITELY don't apply to our company. We are NOT a fly-by-night contractor and we are NOT a storm chaser!! We have all applicable permits to canvass and speak with people in every city including yours; however, we use canvassing as just one of many marketing avenues to generate business. We also sponsor local sports teams, do home shows, flyers, networking events, newsletters, referrals, repeat customers, mailers, and google optimization so that we can do 30-40 estimates a week. We are not a storm chaser door-to-door magazine sales team we are a design/build remodeling firm that has been and will be around for the long term. We grew up, live in, contribute to, and pay taxes in your community. As the owner, I apologize if Jeff's presentation was unprofessional. We have let him go. I stand behind our process for ensuring a quality job done every time, and our production team is proud to have over 500 satisfied customers who would gladly recommend us. If there's anything else I can do to help, just give me a call. Best regards, Mike Sowers, President Executive Exteriors cell: 612-598-0780

I called on a Wednesday. A company representative did not call me back until Thursday, and then left a voicemail that I could call him back to discuss a quote, but that he would be unavailable the rest of the day and to try him on Friday. My request stated we had an urgent ice dam situation. Given my "urgent" request and their web site's boast of a quick quote, I found his response quite lacking and unprofessional. It would have been fine for him to call back and say they were booked and couldn't accomodate an urgent request, as other companies did, but to wait a day, then call and tell me to wait another day to discuss a quote, well that's very poor. That's an indication that they don't take service seriously.
Description of Work: Their web site advertises to ask for a quote in 10 seconds, and that a sales representative will call you back. So I submitted a request for ice dam removal, noting that one ice dam required urgent removal, and we had a few others that weren't as urgent.

We apologize for any misunderstanding, customer service is very important to us! To be clear, we don’t offer gutter steaming services, and apologize if there was a misunderstanding that led a member to believe that. Our rep called the same day and left a voicemail telling the customer that. When the customer reached the office a day or two later we told her that it wasn’t a service we offer. It was not our intention to upset the customer, and we feel we communicated adequately given it wasn’t even a service we offered. Regarding timeliness, we apologize if there was a misunderstanding because of our profile saying to “request a quote in 10 seconds.” It was meant to imply “submit your information in 10 seconds,” NOT a representative “will contact you with a price in 10 seconds.” We have edited our profile to clarify our message. “Request a quote in 10 seconds! A home designer will contact you within 2 business days to discuss the project. For urgent concerns please call the company main number at 612-333-5577.”
