They did a great job. Very impressed. You can tell they have been in business for 40 years. Very honest, reliable, and fixed a couple things that didn't even need fixing. Plus told me about a couple more issues that needed to be addressed, and gave us advice on how to do that more simply, so we could save money on that as well. Had our initial assessment done by Home Energy Squad--our attic space was confusing, to say the least--so the Home Energy Squad had thought more work would have needed to be done than actually did. But he said he'd never quite seen an attic space like ours in 40 years, and said it made sense why they would have thought it would require more work. Anyway! He could have done the work as Home Energy squad assessed, and made more money, but said there was an easier way to do it which was also more cost effective for us. Plus they were really good with our dogs, which if you know us, is a big stinking deal. I could tell the difference immediately. Now I am excited to see how much warmer it will be here in the Winter...but I can wait ;)

It went very well. We had some pretty bad ice dam issues last winter and had him out in the winter to do an estimate...as well as the general issue that our attic is super hot in summer and cold in the winter (lots of leaks and little insulation). However, we didn't get the work done until August. We obtained three estimates for this work. Steve used an instrument to detect temperature in the walls/attic spaces. His estimate was in line with other estimates I got, but more so than others, he took the time to explain the likely issues in the house and how he'd handle them. I'm not an insulation expert but did a fair amount of reading on-line...his explanations were more thorough and reflected common issues with the style of house (e.g., sealing rafters that go under the floor in second story bungalows...a big issue for heat loss but not at all addressed by one of the other guys). He was the only one to take careful measurements and map out room dimensions, during estimation, to figure out what things would take. There were some issues he encountered along the way which he handled. It changed the work up a little but he didn't try to charge extra for it. I think he assumes that there'll always be some novel problem solving on these jobs with old houses. He even fixed a couple of the roof vents that our roofers had installed incorrectly (holes too small for vent size). He did a pre- post- blower door test to show improvement in leaking..although my major concern is ice dams and we won't know about that for a bit...will update after this winter. I noticed some of the other comments about responsiveness...and I can say that Steve (the owner) can take a little time (a few days) to respond to calls/e-mails. When things were scheduled (estimate and work), he was on time as scheduled. The person in the office is a little quicker than Steve. This said, when he was with us and/or doing the work, he was completely engaged with me, my wife, and our questions - and completely engaged in the work. He didn't just drop off a crew to do the job; he was part of the crew doing the work the entire day. He struck me as quite conscientious in making sure a good job was done.
Description of Work: We have a 1926 1.5 story bungalow with a finished attic and an addition dormer with kitchen and bathroom upstairs. Energy Savers installed new roof vents, blew in new insulation in the attic spaces, sealed the attic bypasses, insulated knee walls, installed vapor barriers, dense packed sloping walls, and insulated a cold storage closet that had some pretty bad ice dam problems last winter.

Called and scheduled an appointment to have exterior walls of a stucco home insulated. Appointment was set up quickly. Steve arrived half hour late (was notified he would be) and he sat out in his truck another 10 minutes before coming to the door. When he finally emerged from his truck he and I discussed what I needed, he seemed knowledgable, and was able to show me the difference in temperatures of interior/exterior walls using a thermal reader (?). I asked for two separate estimates, one for the exterior walls (to compare with other estimates) and another estimate for additional insulation of attic/knee-wall areas. A week passed and no estimate was sent so I called and left a message. Another few days passed and I left another polite message with the caveat if he wasn't interested in doing the work would he, or a representative from his company, let me know so I could find another company. That was a week ago and still no response. This guy may be busy but his business skills are less than stellar. Too bad this company is located in my neighborhood and I prefer to support local businesses. Unless I hear from him sometime this week this is a business I will not support no would recommend.

The guy came and gave me a bid which I liked. I wanted to do it, but I just didn't have the money at the time so I probated. This last year I called them back and said I would like to go ahead. He said he would give me and see what's happening and never got back to me. Then I read on Angie's List that other people had complained that they were not returning calls. That was my last contact with them. The guy was good and some of the complaints were they never return calls or they didn't follow up. May be they were overwhelmingly busy and I wanted to do it right before winter. The bid was between $1500 to $1700. He just seemed to know what he was doing and the bid was reasonable and everything. I would find somebody else to do it. When I called back later a year later to follow up and see if that bid still holds good, but they never returned my call at all. My initial experience was good. The guy was knowledgeable. The price was fair and he did show up in a timely manner. I was impressed, but after the fact that they never returned my call even two or three months later, I was disappointed. I would consider using them in the future.

I can't comment on whether this company is good at the services it says it provides. I asked them via email, through Angies List, for an estimate and didn't get a response. I followed up with a voice mail message 1-2 days later (they didn't answer in the morning, even though it was within their business hours). A week later, I got a voice mail back, very nice, saying they can't take on any new work because they are overloaded. Didn't say "can't take it on this month, but next month.". Just, can't manage any new work, sorry. Probably a great provider of insulation for all I know, but just FYI... not actually available to do any work for you. I don't think its professional to take a week+ to say "sorry can't even estimate something for you", but they did get around to doing it in the end, and that should be saluted.

He came and looked at places where we might need insulation. He suggested also doing the attic but we couldn't afford it. There was a crawl place above our front entryway that wasn't insulated and the front door leaked badly, so he suggested insulating both of these. He followed up and did these things, and it helped our heating situation a lot.

I was excited about utilizing this company to insulate our attic because they came highly recommended and had excellent Angie's List reviews. However, my experience reflects the previous reviewer: no return call. I left three messages over the past week but have not gotten a call back. In frustration, I called another company and not only got someone on the phone but had an appointment arranged.

Badly. I ended up with another company that I was very happy with. Energy Savers called back once initially and left a message, but after that, my three calls to them were ignored and I never heard back at all. I think my mentioning that I only wanted to work on part of my house turned them off to me. They should have at least called back to let me know that they had no interest in taking on the job. Very unprofessional. They may be capable of doing good work but we never could get started at all.

Steve came out for the estimate. He seemed knowledgeable about what's required in older homes. He also seemed to have a good understanding of what made sense and what would be expensive "overkill". His price was the second-best estimate. The process went exactly as planned. He and his crew came out on the expected day. They did the job in a day and left it all clean and neat. The final price was the estimated price. No problems at all.

I am very happy with the result. The work took two 9:00am-3:00pm days with Steve and one employee. They were conscientious, detail-focused, friendly, and did a good job cleaning up after themselves. Steve was always willing to explain what he was doing and why he was doing it. They did the attic first, then the walls, then the garage. The front face of the house has brick and wood siding, so that face was insulated from the inside (i.e. through the drywall in my living room and bedrooms). The other walls were done from the outside by talking off the cedar shake siding and then replacing it afterwards. All of the holes were filled with a tight-fitting styrofoam plug, and then drywall was also patched with joint compound over the plug (I will have to paint it myself). Steve also did a blower door test before and after, and was able to demonstrate approximately a 25% air volume reduction due to his work.
Description of Work: Energy Savers fully insulated my 1958 rambler, whose foundation is approximately 1000 square feet. They sealed attic bypasses, installed air chutes, installed two new roof vents, brought the attic up to R-50 with blown cellulose, and then insulated the exterior side walls and tuck-under garage ceiling with blown dense-packed cellulose.

Great! We got a couple estimates and Steve's was the best one. He's been doing this a long time so he really knows what he's talking about. In addition, the other companies were scheduling 8 to 10 weeks away, but due to a cancellation, Steve was able to come and do the work the very next day!

Steve came over the previous week to examine our house and provide an estimate. He was one of three people examine our home, although only he and one other contractor delivered an estimate. Steve was available to complete the work first. He agreed to come over at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning for the first of a three day job. He and Rich arrived on time at 8:30 sharp! I was very happy with that. The first day they spent on the roof and in the attic. The second day they drilled the holes in our plaster walls and blew cellulose insulation into the needed places, which was nearly every outside facing wall. They covered over the holes with a plug and some patching material. (That will be simple to paint over when its that time.) They had a few hours of work remaining today (Thursday the 22nd) in which they performed a second blower test to find the remaining large gaps upstairs. I was very happy with their timeliness, their estimate, and their friendliness while working.
Description of Work: Steve and Rich insulated the first and second floor sidewalls with dense packed cellulose. They insulated the peak attic to R-44 with blown cellulose. They insulated the attic knee walls to R-22 with fiberglass insulation. They insulated the knee wall floors to R-44 with blown cellulose. They insulated the attic access door. They sealed the leaks in the second floor with caulk. They installed six new roof vents. They performed a blower door test before and after the work. The CFM50 test went from 3,050 before to 2,050 after.

Steven responded to our call on the same day. He even came out to do an estimate on the same day as our initial call. Steven, after discussing our needs, recommended that any additional insulation would not provide us with a meaningful difference. We appreciated his assessment. It was based upon our stated needs after consultation. Finally, it must be hard for a contractor not to recommend to perform any work.

Unfortunately, he never returned an estimate. Before he left, I asked about next steps and when we could expect to receive his estimate. He stated he would work on it that night. We never heard from him again. Due to this unprofessional response, we decided to go with a competitor who did just as thorough an assessment and wrote out a bid on the spot. This highly rated competitor's price was fair, considering the scope of work and other $ amounts quoted on Angie's list. As well, the competitor put very clear boundaries around the insulation vs drywall/finishing work. Both Energy Savers and the competitor are highly rated on Angie's List, but I will NOT work with a contractor who can't even meet basic professional standards, such as returning an estimate in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Steve came out to assess our home and results of our energy audit. He seemed to do a thorough job assessing but did not effectively distinguish between insulation and drywall/attic space finishing, which were two distinct needs cited on the energy audit. Audit was done prior to contacting Energy Savers.
