The service performed but overcharged twice. The company managers are not responding to complains. I can not get through the secretary. Dishonest and bad customer service.
Description of Work: They quoted one price but when tech showed up hi quoted the double price stating that my garage door is made of wood and requires heavy spring. That was BS - I later checked with other companies and the price was $164 parts and labor and 5 years warranty for any residential single car door with now surprises.

I had a new garage built in Aug 2012 and needed a garage door and opener installed (I purchased the garage door and opener already). I researched for any nearby vendors and found a nice attractive smartphone-based website by TC Garage Doors of Richfield MN. For whatever reason, though, my invoice was from Elk Garage Door. In any case, to be very brief and to the point, you never really knew when these guys were coming, they drove vehicles with no lettering or logo, and they did sloppy work hanging the garage door opener in the rafters...they just put it up there and screwed in the angle brackets sticking straight up in the air. They did not square any of the bracketing off or make any attempt to make it look good. Also, on one side of the track, they did not mount it square to the door. When the garage door is raised to it's complete OPEN position, and you look up along the track and door edge on one side, the track obviously does not run parallel with the door (see photo). I write this review nearly 2 and a half years after the fact. However, I wrote my original review of this project against TC Garage Doors, but since my receipt is from Elk Garage Door, I want to be sure others get the review with the correct name...whichever one is correct (who knows?). In the time after my work was completed, I found it interesting that so many garage door company names were tied to the TC Garage Door business in Richfield. However, it seems their facebook page stopped posting March of 2013. I also find it interesting if you access the http://www.elkgaragedoors.com/ Elk Garage Doors webpage, there is some interesting things to note. There are facebook, twitter and youtube icons which have nothing to do with their business. It is interesting Elk Garage Doors has a facebook page, but it provides nothing but a phone number and address. Their webpage lacks any address, and the phone number doesn't match the one on the facebook page. Their website seems to lack any promotion of any state regulatory requirements for them to be in business (most valid businesses list all of their BBB and license info). I simply see a lot of inconsistencies, and I suggest based upon my experience to consider a company who takes pride in their work. There are a lot of garage door companies/vendors out there. Use one with a good reputation and isn't afraid to stick their neck out there to help you and back up their service.

Description of Work: They came to change the code on my garage opener key pad. They were not able to do it and in fact ruined the ability to use the key pad at all. It had been working fine and I just wanted the code change after having workmen use the existing code. He suggested that I replace my whole garage door opener. I called another company out to replace the key pad that no longer worked.

I called what I thought was Stillwater Garage Doors since I live in Stillwater and like to stay local. It turns out their name is actually Elk Garage Doorsand they are not in Stillwater. My automatic garage door opener had stopped working and I anticipated having broken springs since I had broken springs last repaired in 2005. Instead of calling the company I had in 2005, I decided to use a local service. I was told when the service person arrived that it would cost $800. When I exclaimed in shock, "$800!!", he told me very believably that that is what it costs for a brand new garage door opener since my old one was apparently no good after 13 years. I gave him permission to do the job, trying to accept the fact that evidently $800 is what they cost these days. After he was done, I had to pick up lots of scrap metal and plastic from his work, had to climb up a ladder and close the light surround. I also noticed within a couple hours that the door would not close from using the unit inside the garage. I called the company back and the same person came back and used a screw driver to adjust something on the unit on the ceiling and it now worked. The next day I also noticed that the light did not automatically come on when I walked in to the garage like my old Craftsman unit did. It also squeaked loudly when the garage door closed. I called on Monday and was told that the new Liftmasters did not have the sensor that would allow it to detect motion and turn on automatically but he would see if he could find a sensor and put one in for me at no charge. I also mentioned how loudly it squeaked. It is now Wednesday and I had to call the company back again and still haven't heard. I should never have paid $800 for a new garage door opener!
