Overall I found Earl's team to be friendly, punctual, and they did a fine job. The floors looked great. The only thing I found to be lackluster was that although the team cleaned up the wood dust that fell to the floor, there was some that stuck to the wall in my hallway and bedrooms. It would have been a nice touch for them to check/vaccum the walls if need be once they were finished sanding. However this small detail would not prevent me from recommending them to others.
Description of Work: Earl's team sanded and polished the hardwood floors in every room in my house. The house is 50 years old, the floors are original, and I doubt the floors had ever been sanded and polished.

I was pleased with the estimate. He is one of the people that I am considering hiring. I trust that the job will be done well. He had a lot of good ratings. I wanted an exotic type of hardwood, and he seemed to be able to find what I wanted at a reasonable price. He was knowledgeable and had connections. He had the estimate to me within 2 hours.

Purchase my house two months prier and found hardwood floors beneath all carpeting which were in fairly decent condition. Earl's Floor Sanding & Install sanded, sealed and applied two coats of finish to the floors (3 bedrooms and livingroom). I need not say anything at all about the finished product as everyone who sees my floors say it for me. "Well worth the money" and "beautiful". Two "Atta-Boys" for Earl's!

Todd and his crew are the BEST....... We just purchased a 1925 2 Story Craftsman Four Square in south Minneapolis and wanted a variety of work done before we moved in. It was work related to restoring the home to its original glory. The floors had not been refinished in 40 plus years. The floors had been poorly patched in many areas. When the old cast iron hot water heater radiators were removed and base board radiators installed, the old holes had not been patched. Had 4 bids for the work. Todd was not the lowest but impressed us with his suggestions for restoring the floors to their original beauty. He explained everything well and suggested some additional patching in areas that would make the floors look better. Could not believe the patching work. Perfect. Had to look hard to find where they were. Sanding, staining and final finish was flawless. Todd lives in Minneapolis and really appreciates the beauty of these old houses. Appreciates the importance of RESTORING instead of just renovating them. Great crew. Detail oriented. Young guys and really conscientious. Left the house cleaner than when they started. I can't say enough about the quality of the workmanship that Todd and his crew bought to this job. WE ARE VERY HAPPY WITH THE QUALITY AND THE WORKMANSHIP.

As the owner of the company Todd Anthony takes a personal interest in each job. This is the second time I have hired this company. He came the day after I called and gave me a price very reasonable for the amount of work involved. They were able to do the work while we were on vacation. I am very pleased with the results. The only problem I have is that they put the finish over the cold air return grills in the floor so I have to cut through the finish to remove the grills for cleaning.

The work was done on time and on budget. We have several pets we had to board at friends houses so the on-time job and regular updates from Earls were very appreciated. We'd used Earl's in 2005 to refinish the our dining room, front room and hallway. They did an excellent job then and equally well this time. Strongly recommended!

Description of Work: Todd, the owner of Earl's came by to give us a bid to refinish our wood floors. He was right on time (to the minute), explained options nicely and the bid was very attractive. We may get another bid, but really after looking at the price and all the great reviews on Angie's list, I am really temped to save the time and trouble and hire Todd from Earls!

Very well. They came and made an estimate. They had a conflict for the date we wanted, but they worked it out to suit our needs. Once done and all looked good, there was a slight problem that the threshold was too big. They came back promptly and fixed it without any extra charge. Extremely satisfied and would be happy to recommend or use them again.

I just had the best experience with them. First of all, I am of the old school so I really appreciate when things are well down. Earl?s is a privately owned company and he has a crew that goes with him. You can tell that they are not subcontractors and they work for him because they were nicest young men. We did a lot of the moving of furniture but they did the big furniture and they came back to put the heavy things back for us. My floors look beautiful and you would not know that anyone had been in this home. They were punctual and meticulous. He recommended that I get a commercial grade of coating because we have a small home so the entire house is high-traffic. It cost me a little bit more but I didn?t have to have it done, he just recommended it after he saw my home. I couldn?t be more pleased and I would recommend these people in a heartbeat. They were great young men and the owner was personable and not pushy.

They arrived on time and did exactly what they said they'd do. Floors look great. One thing I thought was odd was that they left a garbage bag of their stuff next to my garbage container--seems like if I'm paying them thousands of dollars, I shouldn't have to also pay to dispose of their work product.

Their work was impeccable! Everyone associated with Earl's Floors Sanding was great to work with, and Todd worked with us to find a time to re-finish the floors that worked with our schedule requirements. The repair work was done so well and is so seamless that you cannot even tell where the repair was done (note that we had saved wood from the landing at the bottom of the stairs when we changed that to slate, so that may have helped). There was very little dust anywhere in the house. The floors look gorgeous (we are constantly admiring how nice they look!) and not we cannot wait to have the floors on the second story refinished (initially we planned to wait a couple of years to refinish those floors).
Description of Work: Todd and his crew refinished the hardwood floors on the main floor of our two-story house. In addition to refinishing the floors, they also did some repair work on a spot that was especially worn (we have two large labs).

I started by calling up about five contractors that I found them on Angie's list and they all seemed pretty decent and the odds are they would all have done a great job, but I could sense from my first meeting with Todd, he had exceptional knowledge of his craft and I was willing to hire him. They started the job the exact day they said they would and the job was complete the day they said it would be and I held an Open House a few days. The floors and new "steps" look absolutely stunning and I should have called up Earl's Sanding years ago. There were a few rotten boards and they replaced them to make the entire project look like new. There was a small area in the dining room that I had done years ago and the previous sander never took care of this, but Todd and crew came in and made it blend in like new. The old house truly looks like a million dollars and every person that walks in are amazed how fantastic the floors look. Thank you Earl's Sanding! I had other room done years ago and they looked good, but the floors that Todd and crew did were even better. I would absolutely hire this firm with confidence and the odds are your expectations will be met and more than like exceeded.
Description of Work: Repaired and refinished my hardwood floors and steps of my 80 year old home. I just put my home on the market and my real estate agent recommended that I either refinish the floors or install new carpet and I chose the first and what a smart idea this was and even better one that I hired Earl's Floor Sanding..

Started on time and ended on time. Overall the floors look beautiful, except for the edging that bumps up to our kitchen cabinets. Even with the edging, we can see gaps where the floor doesn't extend to the wall and that was disappointing. Stunning job repairing and finishing our front stairs. That made the effort worth it. We were left with no maintenance instructions for how to handle the floor over the 1st 48 hours. We ended up with a long scratch that they did come back and refinish for a fee. That was stressful because the owner acted like we should have checked his website online for the "how to." We were not told to. The crew did their job well, but we had the impression that there were too many jobs in the mix. They would come and go - we never knew the status of things. The floors were left filthy and food trash was left in our living room each evening. I had to sweep and vacuum and remove plastic in order for us to get up to our bedrooms. I don't think the communication flowed from boss to employees about our need to sleep there. The boss seemed stressed about another "big" job. We also didn't know when they were finished...we had to call and ask.

THIS REPORT DOES NOT ACCURATELY REPRESENT THE FACTS RELATED TO THIS JOB OR OUR COMPANY. RIGHT BEFORE THE FINAL COAT WAS APPLIED (SIGNALING THE END OF OUR WORK)SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS WERE GIVEN TO MALE HOMEOWNER ON WHEN TO WALK ON, MOVE FURNITURE, MAINTENANCE TIPS, ETC. THE AUTHOR OF THIS REPORT, HIS WIFE, APPARENTLY DIDN'T RECEIVE THE SAME INFORMATION THAT WAS TO BE PASSED ON. WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE HUSBAND MENTIONING HE MISTAKENLY DRAGGED THE REFRIGERATOR ACROSS THE FLOOR. HE WAS MORE THAN HAPPY TO PAY ONLY OUR COST TO REFINISH THE AREA. REMAINING COMMENTS ARE AT BEST UNFAIR. DISRUPTION OF THE HOME DURING A JOB OF THIS MAGNITUDE IS TO BE EXPECTED. OUR COMMUNICATION IS AMONG OUR STRONGEST COMPANY TRAITS AND OUR REPORTS CONSISTENTLY HIGHLIGHT THIS.

Fabulous! I highly recommend these people. they were fast, efficient, pleasant, professional, on time, and reasonable. They were also the only one of three quotes I got that was willing to mess with the gap problem described above. One of the others suggested I use wood filler! I was aghast with that suggestion. Thank goodness this sander knew what to do to address the problem.

Overall an OK job. Some of the patch looks only OK (area that is depressed, which I had them replace specifically because it is depressed), and the other area is mostly sap wood (much lighter wood) that will not really match the darked native heartwood. Some areas of streaking in the finish. They were very nice good guys, but in the end the job was just OK.

Our experience with Earl's Floor Sanding was excellent, from start to finish. Todd was very professional, personable, and punctual. Todd's bid was not the lowest of the many bids we received, nor was it the highest; however, we were very impressed with both his knowledge and the fact that the majority of his business consists of refinishing floors in older homes like ours. As an added bonus, Todd was actually willing to match our lowest bid, which made hiring him the obvious choice. Todd and his crew's workmanship and their attention to detail is outstanding. Our 104-year old pine plank floors look gorgeous?very warm and rustic?and we couldn't be more pleased. Pine is tricky to sand because it is such a soft wood compared to maple, birch, or oak, but there isn't a divot or swirl mark to be found anywhere, which is very impressive. Todd and crew showed up like clockwork each day that they were scheduled, were very careful to contain all dust and debris, and always cleaned up thoroughly after themselves. We will definitely recommend Earl's Floor Sanding to anyone we know who is looking to have their floors refinished.
Description of Work: Earl's Floor Sanding sanded and refinished approximately 400 square feet of original 5" tongue and groove pine plank flooring in the third-floor finished attic space of our 1905 home, as well as approximately 11 stair treads and a small landing leading to the third floor. Top coated with three coats of oil-based polyurethane.

Overall it was a good process. If we had to do it again we would have done it in the summer and not the late fall. The air was really cold outside so opening up the house to ventilate was not an enjoyable experience. Since we did not fully open all the windows the fumes took longer to leave the house. We didn't stay at the house for nearly a week, but this was only because we decided not to open all the windows and leave them open for hours.
Description of Work: They refinished the hardwood floors in our two bedrooms, a small hallway and our main living area (basically our entire first floor roughly 450 sq ft). The process took two days, the first day they sanded and put down the oil base and the second day they put on the water coats. We did have a problem spot where there was a funny chemical reaction and the floor and to be re-sanded and sealed, but they were very responsive and took care of the problem without any hassle.

I got three estimates; Earl's was the only company that would even consider removing the adhesive junk before sanding. Todd, the president, was flexible with my schedule when he met me for the estimate at 5:00pm. He measured and explained the process in a way that was very easy to understand. Todd treated me with respect and was very polite. We had pulled all the quarterround off our floors to remove the cork flooring and Todd said his company could put it back on for us at the end of the project. Earl's ended up doing 3 bedrooms, a hallway, the living room and dining room. They were on time and communicated well throughout the four day project. They hung up plastic sheets to protect the home from all the dust generated from the sanding. After removing the adhesive, Todd found another spot that needed patching and called to make sure it was okay to replace this area, as this would be an additional charge. This was much appreciated. Todd and his workers cleaned up very thoroughly and the only places that dust remained was the closets and the tops of doorways. Todd gave thorough instructions for caring for the floors and for giving them adequate time to breath before placing rugs and furniture on them. Earl's reinstalled all our old quarterround. They purchased additional quarterround, stained some pieces for our landing, and painted some other pieces to match the walls in our hallway (we provided the paint). Earl's used an oil based product for the first coat of finish and a water based product for the second coat. This cut down the smell significantly. The floors are so beautiful I now brag about them to anyone who will listen!
Description of Work: After we removed the cork flooring covering our hardwood floors there was a layer of adhesive junk left stuck to the wood. We asked Earl's to remove this and sand and refinish floors. They also patched several spots where radiator heaters had been and one very large spot where a built-in buffet was removed. Patching involved Earl's finding wood that matched the color and age of our floors and working them into the spaces.
