They taped everything in our home to minimize, or in most cases, eliminate sawdust. They were willing to move our largest furniture pieces around. They cleaned up all dirt and debris. They addressed every one of our concerns. The job was completed in just five days. Most importantly, they did beautiful work. They and their work exceeded our expectations.
Description of Work: They removed all existing flooring (carpet and hardwood) on our first floor, and installed about 1,550 square feet of new prefinished hardwood. They also converted the existing carpeted stairs to hardwood stairs.

Everyone at Earl's was very professional. We worked mostly with Todd who came out to do the estimate. He was very accommodating in scheduling and the team was always there on time. Once the main work was complete they came back to do any touchups that we requested. Also, they left us with extra stain and poly for future projects like the new handrails we'll be putting in later this month.
Description of Work: We had Earl's refinish the hardwoods in our entire home. This included sanding, staining (a new color) and poly. In addition they rebuilt one our our stairs and painted and installed new 1/4 rounds in the whole house.

Todd came out to measure the job and give us an estimate. He answered all our questions and followup emails promptly. The crew that did the work was prompt, courteous, and professional. They taped off the second floor from the rest of the house to contain the sanding dust. The project took 3 days to complete. They cleaned up quite thoroughly (vacuuming down the walls and window screens in addition to the sanded surfaces)
Description of Work: Removed carpet from 2nd floor (3 BRs). Sanded the BR floors, hallway, and stairs to the first floor. Stained the stairway treads. Applied 1 coat of sealer and 2 coats of emulsion waterbased finish to all the sanded surfaces. Did some minor trim work on the baseboards.

We had all of the original 1951 hardwood flooring sanded, stained and finished, covering the living room, entry, dining room, hallway and 2 bedrooms. 4 days from start to finish. Todd and his crew were great to work with throughout the entire project. Todd was easy to reach and was very responsive to all questions. His crew showed up on time, finished on time and were very professional. I contacted Todd regarding a few trouble spots after the initial work was done and he had his crew back out the next day to fix them. My wife and I love the results and could not be happier with the entire process.
Description of Work: Sanded, stained and poly'd approximately 820 square feet of flooring. Replaced approximately 10 square feet of damaged boards. Repaired numerous gouges in the existing floor, installed 2 doorway transitions, added custom trim around fireplace.

Floor was in bad shape. Estimate process was quick and simple. Guys arrived when scheduled and did a couple of days of sanding and multiple Coates if finish. Workmen were courteous and professional. Were very diligent in fixing some issues we created by waiting too long to have the work done. Overall, very pleased with the work. Only small complaint is that there were a couple of spots where varnish got on surrounding paintwork.

We received bids from several contractors. Earl's original bid was not the highest, but it was on the upper end. We decided to go with them because Todd was very knowledgeable and helpful during the estimate and was willing to work with us on the price to meet our budget. We had approximately 600 square feet of floors resurfaced, which included about 250 square feet in our master bedroom that was covered in a black adhesive from when someone had put down a tile or linoleum at some point. There were also two areas of patchwork that had to be done where wall had originally been in the house, an in-laid vent was put into the floor, and two transitions into our bathroom and kitchen were done as well. Overall, we were extremely pleased with the work. The floors are 65 years old, and though they had been under carpet for some time, they were very stained and damaged. (the previous house owners were dog hoarders) Despite the extensive staining, damage, and the black adhesive all over our bedroom floor, Todd and his team delivered and outstanding looking floor! Perhaps he shouldn't have admitted this, but at the end, even Todd told us he didn't anticipate them coming out as well as they did. The patchwork was beautiful. One of the patches had to go between an original part of the house and an addition where the sub-floor height was lower. Todd's guys did an outstanding job smoothing the transition! The floor stain was the key to eliminating the existing stains in the wood. We chose a medium-dark stain to help out, but it was amazing just how great of a job they did blending everything together. I don't think I can say enough how amazing the work was...they really saved these floors! After the job was completed, there was one spot that had a little bit of pooled finish, as well as some grout that needed to be done between the transitions and tile flooring. Todd was out there the next day and fixed it all himself! The only negatives to the project were a couple of minor details: -Trash: I had assumed that they would take all trash with them. Todd said it was normal for them to leave the trash and dust unless otherwise noted in the contract. However, when I asked about it, he took the trash to another job site where he had a dumpster. Not really a problem, but something you'll want to have written into your agreement! -We had a few base boards that needed to be lowered as we had removed carpet. I found their work on these to be a little bit sloppy. They left a gap where one base board met an original board that I will have to fill. -There were a three spots where cable lines had been run up through the floor. During the first day walk through, Todd instructed his crew to fill them, but only one was filled. As a result, one hole let a bunch of finish drip down into a basement closet. Again, I cannot stress enough how pleased we were with Todd and his crew. He was always timely with his responses, always extremely knowledgeable, and they delivered an outstanding product to us! I hope we don't need any floor work soon, but if we do, I'll definitely be using Earl's again.

We arranged the work over the phone and by email from Georgia. Todd was very responsive, professional and knowledgeable. On the day work started, the crew arrived exactly on time and had the demo done and the wood laid out in one day. We left town after the first day and the crew finished a few days early. Whenever there were any issues, we received an email with an estimate of the additional cost (concrete around fireplace needs to be removed) or good news (subfloor in good condition). When we arrived, the house was clean and in perfect order. We were very pleased with the work. The floors are beautiful. We will definitely hire Earls again to do the work in the basement when we are ready for that project.

Everything went very well. Scheduling for start of job was about one month after signing and the project started right on time. I had expected that there might have been some slippage in their schedule, but there wasn't. The sanding crew did a great job closing off adjacent areas with plastic and tape and also sealed cabinets and wall hangings. Dust containment was excellent. My floor had many stained areas. All of them except a 12 square foot area sanded clean. This stained area was patched with new red oak that was interleaved with the surrounding area. You would never know that the floor had been patched. The other three patches were also excellently done. All of the sanding work and scraping of corners was done very well. The finish sanding work got up right next to the edge of the base molding. A very thorough vacuuming was done before application of the oil-based sealer coat and a complete vacuuming of everything including walls was done before application of the final two water-based finish coatings. Application of the finish coatings was done very well with no apparent skips in the coating. Cutting of the new base shoe molding and installation were done very well. At my request, installation was delayed until after all the finish coatings had been done to avoid getting floor finish on the pre-painted molding. The job started and finished on time per schedule despite additional patching work that was needed beyond what was evident at contract signing. Communication from the very first phone call was very good with all phone calls returned promptly. Earl's Floor Sanding is a top notch company that does high quality work at a reasonable price.
Description of Work: About 550 square feet of red oak flooring were sanded, four areas were patched, one coat of oil-based sealer and two coats of water-based Street Shoe finish applied, and new base shoe molding was primed, top coated, cut and installed.

Thank you for the nice review! I just wanted to clarify that we are fully capable of installing engineered wood floors. When the estimate request came in, we weren't taking on jobs of this type based on our backlog of sanding jobs and other factors. This may not have been conveyed clearly in my message to our office manager Liz and subsequently to the homeowner. Thanks, Todd - Earl's Floor Sanding & Install

The work on this house was completed 6 months ago. Nothing specific is listed on the review for any possible dissatisfaction. I have looked at old notes on the job and have talked to all employees who were there. The only recollection of items that may have had questions were addressed by my lead guy on a point by point basis until satisfied. I am at a loss for the low marks for what we only assumed to be a job well done.

Earl's was able to start on the desired date - which was only a week out from when we booked- this was great for our schedules. They did the job in the estimated time (3 days) and on estimate. Very happy with the results. The only B was because they were not always on time with when they told us they would be there.

It took a couple of months but most of that time was due to me ordering a special acoustic underlay matt called QQ Soft from a third party. The floor looked great when it was done.
Description of Work: We had Earl's install a 322 sq ft. maple hardwood floating floor in our living room. The project was a little complicated incorporating acoustic underlay matt, plywood and then maple hard wood. Todd from Earl's did a excellent job responding to my questions and concerns regarding the project. The floor looked great when it was done. Their staff were professional and pleasant to have in our home. Todd is very easy to talk with. Originally, I was going to have Earls install an engineered floor over our garage with in-floor heating. Todd was reluctant to do this part of the job because of technical issues with the Nuheat system. I did change my mind and hired a different contractor for this project. Todd was fine with my change of plans. They did a great job installing the floor. My only caution is they didn't know many technical issues regarding acoustic matt products or in-floor heating.

The floors look beautiful. We could not be any happier. The finishing touches were exceptionally well done. We have red cabinets in our kitchen. When placing the quarter round molding around the cabinets, the workers painted the pieces to match the color of the cabinets. We also have a fireplace in our family room where precise cuts had to be made and grout matching the mortar of the brick was done.
Description of Work: We had decided to replace all of our flooring on our first floor with hard wood. I joined Angie's List to do the research. Based on the information on Angie List we got two bids. Todds bid was significantly less. He came over within one day of my call. He was very upfront with us. He told us exactly what had to be done assuring me that there would be no hidden costs. One of the most significant things for us was that WE DID NOT HAVE TO DO A THING. Originally, we were going to have our grown sons do the tear out, removal of carpet, staples, etc, etc. (Needless to say getting our four sons with varying schedules to do this was going to be a big task, but in order to save money, we were willing to do it.) Todd assured us that having his company do the tear out and installation would be the best way of getting the job done well and in a timely fashion. Oh my goodness, I am appreciative of his advice on that one!!!!! This project was a big one....We have all new floors on our main level of our house. This includes, kitchen, family room, living room, dining room, hallway, closet and bathroom. Todd's crew are sooooo knowledgable. It was comforting knowing that investing this kind of money meant that we were going to get a quality job done. Because of our schedules, we were gone from our home alot. The crew was trustworthy. They also did an exceptional job of cleaning up.

We wanted to replace the existing engineered hardwood floor with full hardwood floor. Todd quoted the job and we signed a contract to have the new floors installed. When they came to install the new floors and started tearing out the old floor they discovered that the old floor was fully glued down, Removing that floor would have cost us a lot more. We agreed to allow them to install the new floor over the old floor. Once the hardwood was installed Todd came to show us the different kinds of stain that we could select to stain the floor. We selected a dark stain that fit with the existing baseboard molding. They did a terrific job and also insured that the baseboard molding was reinstalled in a fashion that no one would ever suspect that the new floor was installed over the old floor. Shortly after they completed the job we had a tall bar stool fall over and damage part of the floor. We contacted Todd to help us repair the damage assuming that we would pay him for the repair. Todd came and repaired the damage and did not charge us for the repair. We would recommed Todd to anyone

My Wife and I purchased our first home (1920's era) in St Paul and after tearing up the carpet we discovered nice red oak flooring. We called a few places for estimates and start times, since we wanted to complete the job before moving in the start time was crucial, and decided on Earls. Todd was great to work with, very responsive via email and phone and sent one of his experienced guys to get the job done. We had the foyer, living room, dining room, hallway and two 11 x 11 bedrooms sanded, sealed, and refinished. We also decided to replaced the original pine stair treads with matching oak treads as well as add a new oak landing at the top of the stairs. Earls took care of the job with no complains, major screw ups and was done when they stated they would be done which allowed us to move in on time. The floors look absolutely amazing and we get complements frequently on how nice the floors look with several 'WOW's" from friends and family. We plan to use Earl's in the future when it comes time for any other hardwood services.
Description of Work: First floor sand and refinish; 10 stair treads and small landing installed, sanded, and refinished. Three coats of oil finish. We went with oil because of the durability even though it takes a bit longer to dry then water based. Plus we like the richness the oil imparts in the red oak of the floor.
