I brought my coat in to see if they could repair a tear in the shoulder (about the size of a dime) and have it cleaned. The guy at the counter brought my coat back to the shop and showed the tear to one of the employees that would do the work on the coat. She came back out with him, and offered a couple of ways she could fix it, and gave me her recommendation. She also noticed that a few buttons were sewed on too tightly for the jacket (they needed more room or would tear the leather). She indicated the repairs could be done for just $10. The cleaning was just $45. I was very happy with the price, and rather shocked that it was so low. I had looked around for other leather cleaners, and this was the only place I found specializing in this service near me. I asked how soon my coat would be ready, and was told 2 weeks. Unfortunately this was at the end of January, and this was my warmest coat, but I left it with them anyway. In addition to fixing the tear they were to clean the coat. I came back on a Friday two weeks and three days later to pick up the coat. The employee at the counter could not find it at first. He asked if I had been called to say it was ready, and I said no, but it was more than two weeks so I expected it to be done as promised. After 15 minutes of searching, he finally found it back in the repair area. He showed it to me, and the tear was not yet fixed. It was going to be bitterly cold outside over the weekend, so I was disappointed. I asked if it would be done Monday, and he said he would move it up to be the next worked on. I noticed that the coat was very dark looking, and I was told the coat had been re-dyed. I hadn't asked for that. I called Monday morning to ask when the coat would be done, and was told it would be done after 2:00 p.m. I wasn't thrilled with the repair on the tear - it looked like it was just glued down, and not even that well. Also, when I put on the coat, I noticed that it wasn't soft and supple anymore - it was crunchy and dry. I was told that was because they had re-dyed it and sealed it and that it would get softer with wear. Overall, I'm disappointed with the experience. I'm now getting out the bottle of Wilson's leather lotion and trying to make it soft again.

I was very pleased with the Don's Leather Cleaning. At dropoff the process was explained and a timeframe was set. The cost was very reasonable. Two days later they called to discuss a potential problem of the coat discoloring during the cleaning process. They called when the coat was completed and it looks like new! The discoloration was not noticable and the coat looks completely natural. The spots are completely gone. The entire experience was very good and exceeded expectations.

They did a good job on the purse and I'm pleased about that because its my favorite and I was afraid it was ruined by the mac and cheese. I didn't love that I had to prepay for the service and that it was so expensive. It seemed that I was charged the same high rate regardless of what they actually did to clean the purse. So whether it was simple to clean or complicated, I was still paying the same amount. I haven't shopped around, though, so perhaps their rates/procedure are standard.
Description of Work: I asked them to clean grease stains off my leather purse. I had not tried anything to remove them myself and they were recent (my darling son dumped a plate of mac and cheese on my purse by accident).

Other than the location - which is not easy to get to on Lake St. right now - the experience was good.

I had driven by Don's numerous times, so I was familiar with the company and knew they had been in business a long time. However, I had never taken anything there before. I checked Angie's List but there weren't any recent reports. I asked my regular dry cleaners about cleaning leather and suede and they said they send it out to be done and it can take a couple of weeks. Several other dry cleaners told me the same thing. So I thought I'd give Don's a try since they do the cleaning onsite. The woman who waited on me was very friendly and chatty. She told me my jackets would be done in a week or less and that she would call me when they were ready for pickup. Don's offers a discount if you pre-pay, which I decided to do. I received the call for pickup as promised and in less than a week.
