They are a top notch firm. They were very easy to work with; very competitive. I highly recommend them! The windows went in painlessly. Everything was very well done! It was one of the most pleasurable experiences with contractors I?ve had. The quality of work is absolutely worth what he charges. It?s a tremendous value!

We did not go forward with his estimate because it was still too high. We had bought "My Big Deal" that gave $500 off however, it was not written that the insulation had to be applied to the entire house. For future, it would be helpful to know that information in advance. We were not able to agree on the price.

We had four contractors give bids for our windows project. Craftsmen was one of two that ranked similarly for cost, which was on the high side. The other two were considerably lower. We chose Craftsmen, however, for a several reasons: a) The positive feedback on Angies List meant a lot to us; b) We enjoyed talking with Erik (the sales guy), who was able to answer questions and gave us information that other sales guys didn't or couldn't; c) The fact that they provided us with a variety of options for windows, including both wood and vinyl and different brands; d) That they were not pushing just one kind or brand of window, which we felt allowed Craftsmen to focus on solutions rather than pushing a one-size-fits-all product; and e) They did not belittle the new lead handling standards, as other companies had, but seemed to respect the laws and our own concern for lead handling. We were fine with paying a higher price to work with Craftsmen, because we felt that their reputation on Angies List was important to them, and therefore they would go the "extra mile" to work through any glitches that - inevitably - result on a big project. This ended up being true in several ways: We made a last minute decision to replace a door on the side of the house, and they searched the market to find what we wanted. (The complication was that our door size was not standardized and was below the size that almost all manufacturers make.) We found a very good lending program through the state, and they were flexible with our terms and worked with us to make sure we got all of the information needed to process the loan and a subsequent rebate. A glitch did arise, in which one of the windows was not ordered from the manufacturer. We're not sure where the mistake originated, but Craftsmen made it up to us. Perhaps the other contractors would have given us this kind of service, but we felt that we were much more likely to receive this service from Craftsmen, and that assurance meant a lot to us. As far as the product is concerned, we chose both wood and vinyl windows for different locations in the house. The first salesmen to come to our house presented us with either vinyl or wood, and this set up a conflict within our family of which one to choose. So it was a relief when Erik came and said we didn't have to choose just one or the other. We decided to use wood in the dining room and living room, and vinyl in the bedrooms. This was a good compromise, made possible by Craftsmen's flexibility. Not knowing what the actual work would entail, we were concerned about the dust that could result in the house. We were pleasantly surprised by how quick the windows could be put in, and how well it was cleaned up. We do feel like this statement deserves a footnote, however. On the final day of instillation the clean up was not as thorough as on the previous days, and we had do to some sweeping of paint chips. Since the work has been done, we have received one heating bill (for January), which showed we had used the least amount of natural gas since buying the house in 2002 (yes, we keep track!). While this is just one data point, I think it helps confirm the value of new windows. In final, we are very happy with the windows and working with Craftsmen. We are ranking them as A's across the board. I know some people would give them a B for price, because they are quite a bit higher than some other contractors. We prefer to focus on the value you get for the price. You get what you pay for. We felt the price was worth the assurances for working with this company.

He found just a few simple corrections that I could do. He stated they didn't need to put any more insulation in because I had enough. He went above and beyond explaining some things to me in fixing my problems, which was ice dams. And also the easiest and best way to correct the mistake.The service was superb. He was very pesonable. He showed an awful lot of integrity.

Erik Daehlin talked with us several times to determine exactly what we wanted in the way of siding, windows, and the patio door. He had to do some creative thinking in order to retain an original window decoration which ordinarily would have been discarded. We wanted to save a bit of money, so Craftsmen delivered the siding, which my husband and I stained. They also took care of some necessary roof work. Everything was completed quickly and carefully, and all of the mess was nicely cleaned up. Craftsmen also noted some problems with a brick arch on the side of the house, and we hired a mason to repair it. The staff stayed in close contact with us throughout the process, so we always knew what was going on, and Joan was kind enough to send along the paperwork we would need in order to apply for a energy tax credit. All in all, a very good experience.

We will be getting a bid on partial siding replacement.

Great! Jim Kosloski walked us through every step, installed the door, and was there when the window was completed. We ordered the back door from Scherer Brothers in Hopkins and brought it home. Jim matched the trim for our 70 year old house and completed the door install in one day. Dan and another team removed our very heavy picture window and installed the new energy efficient picture window with two side double windows in one large assembly. They insulated and caulked around the window and matched the interior trim just like they did with the back door. They kept the area clean and made sure everything looked better than when they arrived.

Craftsmen Interior did a great job communicating with us on a routine basis. They worked to schedule us according to our needs and complete the work a week or two prior to the delivery of our second child!! We were so thankful that our infant didn't have to contend with the noise of a major homje repair. We were updated consistently throughout the entire process. I never had the feeling that we were left in the dark about what needed to happen, when it would or how much time or money it would require.

We were trying to get some quick estimates and expressed our urgency, but the office seems to be run more like a call center and the message never got where it needed to ontime. I spoke with 2 different people from the office and was unimpressed by the professionalism, tone and helpfulness of both of them. I did get a call back from the estimator/sales person, but at that point, he just couldnt meet our very short timing. Net, their work might be great (their scores appear so) but I found the office customer service to be poor. I would add that once I posted this the owner called me and left a very, very long voicemail defending their actions and asking me to remove my post. He claims their "phone answering service" may not be great, but its better than an answering machine - I don't agree. I think they would be better off allowing customers who call outside of business hours to leave a message and get a response from an office staff memeber who is trained, professional and accountable. I did reconsider the responsiveness score and moved it to a B - they likely would have completed the work within 2 business days, but I needed it within 1. As for professionalism, I think a C is fair - the office (e.g. call center) is an F but estimator/salesman was an A (A + F) = C.

We were very pleased with the work done. The team was very professional and the bid reasonable. And best of all, we solved the pipe freezing problem. I would highly recommend them for insulation work.

They did a good job. I was happy with them. There really wasn't anything to be unhappy about. I compared the price with another company and the price was similar. I could mix what I wanted with Craftsmen by matching frames and having more options with brands. Craftsmen was willing to make the effort to make sure everything matched to the original window.

Installation was professional and all the house was probably cleaner after they did the installation than before

I received two bids to repair water damage to siding and windows. The first company specialized in water issues and was recommended by a home inspector that I trusted. 'Craftsmen Home Improvements' was highly recommended by a friend. CHI's bid more directly addressed the issues that I was concerned with, it was less expensive, and they were much easier to communicate with. After I accepted the bid, the owner, Dan Bydlon, sent a letter with a direct phone number and an encouragement to call about anything. The handyman that did the work was very personable. The repair to siding on the chimney ended up being a bigger job than expected. We thought there were squirrels that had nested in the chase. There was a foul smell in the fireplace box. Jim did find a small nest but the main problem that he identified was water leaking through a small crack in the siding. He made it his top priority and adjusted his schedule accordingly to get the job done. He also was responsive to small requests like looking at window hardware. The windows that were installed look great. I highly recommend this company for their flexibility, responsiveness and helpfulness.

Craftsman has done an excellent job. Everyone who worked on our home improvement projects was prompt, courteous, honest and professional. Each tradesman took the time to explain the work being preformed and answered any questions we had. The work itself is professionally executed and I feel confident that Craftsman will stand behind their work. Craftsman was very responsive via e-mail and continuously checked-in to make sure we were happy with the progress. I will recommend Craftsman to others moving forward.

I was pleased with Craftsmen's work replacing my roof and asked for a bid on improving the insulation in my attic. Their communications were excellent, their price was fair and they did a careful. thorough job, including clean up.

I loved working with this company. All of the staff were friendly, accessible and professional. Jim provided our estimates and was our main contact on the job. Joan from the office kept in touch about scheduling (which was weather dependant, of course). Dan, the owner, checked in several times. The initial estimate for this job was the highest of the three I received. However, because of their exceptional Angie's List rating, I really wanted to work with them. I asked if they would negotiate on the roof bid and they did come down a little toward the next closest bid, but they were still the most expensive bid by several hundred dollars. There was a fair amount of rain at the time we were scheduled, so the project was delayed a few days, but Joan called every morning with an update. I have a dog at home that I wanted to have out of the house when they worked, because she would have barked all day, so I asked for the daily calls. They ended up doing the roofing and insultation job on a weekend when we were out of town. If not for the new roof and debris in the dumpster, I would never have known they were there. The clean up was amazing. I have a neighbor who is a handyman who watched them work and said he was impressed with their speed and workmanship. The facia, soffits and gutters were done about a week later, again, with almost no sign that they had been there. There was NO damage to any of my landscaping, yard, patio. It was amazing. We did have a problem with our DirecTv dish needing to be repositioned after they put on the roof, but Craftsman covered the cost of the DirecTv service call. A friend recommended that I take down pictures that were hanging in the top level of the house, because all of the hammering during the project might cause them to fall. I don't know if it was necessary, but I did it. I thought it was a good tip to share with others. I had no interior dust or debris at all. The roofing, soffits, facia and gutters have significantly improved the look of our home. I will post pictures in the spring once the snow is gone. Regarding snow - everyone in our neighborhood is dealing with ice dams at the moment because of the snowy month. Not us! I think the insulation and new roofing liner has made a huge difference. We chose to do the insulation because we have an older 1 1/2 story with a bedroom upstairs in the converted attic. It's always very cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Well, it's the end of December and I haven't needed my space heater yet this winter! The insulation has made a tremendous difference! It's a great investment both in cost and daily comfort. I highly recommend this company - you won't be disappointed if you chose them!

Craftsman did a great job for us. Once our contract was signed, Dan stayed in regular contact via phone and email with updates on scheduling. Our project took 3 days in total, and went off without a hitch. The team was very respectful of our house, moved the occasional piece of furniture as needed, and cleaned up meticulously at the end of each work day. We're very pleased with the whole project, and wouldn't hesitate to use Craftsman on our next project.

While we had to wait several weeks for the installation, the work itself took only one day. The quality of work was outstanding - other than the fact that the windows were beautiful and new and tight, we could hardly tell that anything had happened - the guys came, did their work and cleaned up completely. We are very happy with windows. Working with Craftsmen before the installation was also a very good experience - very professional. The company kept us apprised of progress and schedule - during a time when they were very busy with year end tax rebate projects. We have more windows to replace and will definitely have Craftsmen handle the work.

We contacted Craftsmen Home Improvements and met with Erik. He was very knowledgeable and helpful. I had many questions and was very pleased with his responses. There are so many choices of window and siding and I was glad that Erik recommended high quality materials. They did an infrared camera inspection of my walls to find cold spots where my insulation was inadequate. The infrared inspection is amazing as they were able to see inside my walls by walking around my house without needing to drill or punch holes in my walls. They found many cold spots! The dumpster arrived and we were excited to see the job begin. My windows were installed by Jim and Tom. Both of these guys were meticulous and detailed. They are experts-they don't cut corners. I was very impressed with the high quality of these very experienced tradesmen. They keep a very organized work area and clean up daily. Since I was having full frame windows installed, I also replaced my interior trim. This was stained at their shop and like the windows was installed with perfection. The trim is square. I liked their work so well that I added a couple items to my job. I had them install a garage service door and replace the trim around my garage door. Once my windows were done, the siding crew came. Pat and his workers removed my aluminum siding and began prepping the exterior. The siding was delivered and the driver said "you've picked some of the best siding, your home is going to look like a million bucks". That felt good and reinforced that we had made great choices of materials. In 3-4 days, the siding was installed. Again the work was done with great care and detail. The dumpster was scheduled for removal as soon as the job was complete. At the office, Joan coordinated the logistics, material ordering, and completed all paperwork with accuracy. Everyone associated with the project was friendly, polite, and had great attitudes. We love our "new home". We have received numerous complements from our neighbors that they really like the quality they see in our home. Since we are now 100% maintenance free, I will never have to paint those wood windows again. Yahoo! Our home is all buttoned up tight and I am looking forward to the lower utility bills and warmer house in the winters. The start time for the work was adjusted slightly as the crew was still finishing a previous job and I was kept informed of the progress so I knew when they would be coming. I was not around much while they were working but the new roof looks great and the clean up was superb, there was nothing left over on the ground at all. I had some questions about how the shingles were laying afterwords and they sent someone out to have another look after which I was reassured. This contractor was easy to work with and their approach was friendly and not pressuring.

From the beginning of the hail damage claim Craftsmen Home Improvements was excellent in working with my insurance company, working with me in determining the best products for my home, and then through the completion of the project. Excellent customer service, fair pricing, and high end workmanship, would recommend highly!
