+ -1 moreOverall, the roof looks great and looking back, seems rather uneventful. Joan with CMI provided assistance with submitting our claim to the insurance company. During the time we waited for the claim to be processed, CMI did not contact me asking for their outstanding balance due. Overall, it was low key and unstressful. I would definitely use CMI again.
Description of Work: Craftsmen Home Improvement (CMI) replaced the roof, which was damaged from a hail storm during the summer of 2011. Initally, Jim from CMI provided an estimate in October 2011. However, since it was late in the year, Jim suggested waiting until spring due to weather uncertainty and higher temperatures, which would allow the shingles to develop more adhesion to each other. After receiving alternative bids, we went with CMI for the following reasons: * CMI also does insulation work and I wanted them to look for damage from ice dams and seal possible air leaks coming from exhaust vents; * CMI did not pressure me into putting on a ridge vent; instead, Jim presented the pro / con of a ridge vent versus the existing turbine vents already installed; * CMI informed me that if they noticed anything else, they would not overlook it, but advise me and provide options;* As part of Jim's initial review, he reviewed the roof and entire attic space as part of his bid assessment. He did this because of my ice dam concerns. In comparison, the jother contractors did not. On April 4, CMI had a waste dumpster delivered to the house. The dumpster company put it near the home and put planking down on the asphalt driveway for the dumpster to rest on. On April 5th, the CMI crew showed up around 7:15 a.m. They spread tarps around the entire house and climbed onto the roof. Matt was the lead for CMI on my project and managed a group of five individuals. These guys worked very hard and were determined to finish the roof in one day. CMI's team finally finished around 8:15 p.m. or so. By the time they finished, it was dark and they proceeded to wear lights on their heads to pick up roofing nails and material that missed the tarp. I was extremely impressed by their hard work, committment, and professionalism. Matt was easy to talk to, willing to move items or do things at a moments notice, and answered my questions. He made the entire process uneventful. In fact, they even took down my satellite dish, which I thought would be an extra cost. The following week, Jim from CMI met with the city inspector and reviewed their work. After the removal of the existing roof, CMI took pictures showing the placement of water membrane at roof edge and valleys. The inspector relied on these pictures and visual inspection to sign off. The following day, the dumpster company was here in the morning and picked up the dumpster. The dumpster did not damage the driveway.

+ 0 moreJim came out and provided the estimate. He was pretty thorough in his inspection of the attic, taking measurements, and answered all my questions. I scheduled with Kim who was good at accommodating my schedule for Matt and his crew of Victor and Hector to do the work. Prep time of the attic, installing chutes, sealing, etc took probably 3 1/2 hours with the actual blowing taking less than an hour. The guys were neat, professional and courteous. When confronted with a opportunity to cut a corner, Matt didn't - he added batts of insulation down by the soffits to make sure the job was done right. Clean-up of the house, garage (used for their work area) and driveway was above what I was expecting. They were everything and more fellow AngieLister's said they would be. I would recommend Craftsmen and will keep them in mind when needing bids for other projects.
Description of Work: Craftsmen Home Improvements insulated the attic of my 1950's rambler. They installed chutes, sealed bypasses, installed 3 Thermax boxes and blew cellulose to bring the attic up to R49. Prior to the service performed, there were some areas in the attic that were pretty sparsely insulated - the best was estimated to be R20. Adding insulation, even now with 40-50 degree weather, there's a noticeable improvement. The big test will be next winter!

Our third bid was very low and chose craftsmen based on reputation on Angie’s list and a personal recommendation. Tom and Jim arrived as scheduled and completed the installation in 2 days. Trim went up until day 3. They were neat, efficient and respectful of our home and property. Overall experience was excellent!

They were gracious and considerate at every step. I was completely confident of the professionalism and quality of the job we had done.
Description of Work: Tear off old roof-two layers. Replace 7 sheets of underlayment. Install aluminum fascia. Install new roof including ice guard, new vents, etc. Complete and thorough clean-up.

Description of Work: Took advatage of an Angies list coupon deal for attic insulation. First gentleman arrived on time and did an inspection of my 25 year old attic and checked the roof. Used infrared gun to show cold spots. provide detail quote for adding insulation and improving airflow. Contacted them a month later and set up an appointment for installation.

+ 0 moreI had several replacement window estimates from many companies over three years but put off going through with the project because I wasn't sure of type of window to get or how the interior window framing should look. Some of the estimates did not include staining of new interior and exterior window trimming or removing window treatments and replacing them when work was done. Finally I called Craftsmen Home Improvements, choosing them because of their excellent ratings on Angie's list. Consulting with Eric and the total project managment by Kim made going through with the project easy. Craftsmen took care of everything: helping me choose the right window, consulting about color of interior trim, scheduling the city inspection, bringing our house up to code with smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. The city inspector was very pleased with the windows, saying they were square. Craftsmen installed 9 windows, with new exterior and interior wood trim painting and stained the week before Christmas! They cleaned up after each day's work and completed the work early. The windows were the right choice and the stain we selected with Kim's guidance was an improvement. She even did a small painting job, my house numbers, for free. Throughout the project, Kim kept me updated about the schedule and kept me on track about getting the inspection. The windows work very well and look great. I highly recommend Craftsmen because they are professional, responsive, and care about their customer. They gave good advice about type of window and aesthetics of wood trim. I would use them again for other projects.

He understood my quick instructions on what I wanted and sent a quote for exactly that within two days. No hard selling, no rescheduling just sent me a quote for what I wanted. Dan set up the work days around my family's schedule and the crew was there and gone in three days. Except for the new siding, there was no sign that they had been there. The dumpster came the day before and left the last day. Nothing left in the yard or left undone. The crew was professional and thorough. I would/will hire this company again.
Description of Work: Removed all old masonite siding, wrapped house in Tyvek housewrap, and installed 7" reveal Craneboard vinyl siding with R‐2.5 breathable polystyrene insulating backer, sealed edges and seams with caulk in matching color. + 1 moreThe windows went well. They made adjustments as necessary to make the opening size work. Siding and soffit work followed. Some frustration from trying to communicate desired details on several occasions that did not happen. In the end, they made sure everything was corrected to something much closer to what we originally wanted. Project looks good. Things that did not look so good after the first round or that were missed were corrected. Best to meet folks on site to avoid misunderstanding.

+ -1 moreThe workers were on time and started the removal immediately after covering everything within about 20 feet of the house with tarps. Very pleased with the installation process and also the final product. When they left the yard and driveway looked like they had never been there. Craftsmen has now completed replacing the windows, increased insulation in the house and garage and replaced the roof and vents. They were always very professional and the work performed I believe should be rated AAA. Thank you Angie's list for a great program.
Description of Work: The old roof shingles were remove and the decking was repaired as needed. New shingles and ice barrier were installed. New wind vents were added and soffets were replaced where a previous company had painted the vents closed. The last service date was 3/14/2012. However the whole project was about a month.

+ -1 moreCraftsman Home Improvements, Inc. is a class outfit from beginning to end. Excellent products, excellent workmanship, and excellent personnel. We chose them from four other Angie "A" rated window replacement groups and were never disappointed. The salesperson, Eric, was thorough with his presentation and assessment of our needs and choices. Despite our many novice questions by phone and e-mail as we compared companies, he always responded quickly and politely and we never felt pressured. Our own internet investigation validated his information and reinforced our perception that, though we did not choose the least expensive option, we chose the best value. The staff, including Jim who came to measure, Kim to customize stains with existing woodwork, Tom and Jim who did the actual carpentry, the wrapping crew, and Steve who did a wrap follow-up were exact, careful, and neat as can be. Kim at headquarters kept us constantly informed of the scheduling and checked on the outcome of each appointment. A true indication of quality is the way a snafu is handled. One happened. Craftsmen measured and ordered correctly, but the supplier sent the wrong sized picture window. The situation was handled quickly, honestly, and efficiently with continuous updates. An additional plus is that these are not only people who are experts at their work, but folks you like. When we plan our next improvement, Craftsmen will be our first call.
Description of Work: Replaced 13 windows in 1931 build home, seven aluminum clad exterior with custom stained wood interior, ( a bay picture window with side double hung windows and four other double hung windows with grids) plus six double hung exterior and interior vinyl windows. All caulking and insulation and exterior window wraps for all. Removal of old windows, all permits, and clean-up.

Description of Work: They inspected my home for insulation needs for my attic and developed a proposal to add 40 air chutes, cover/plug leaks from canned lighting and other intrusions into the attic and added 10 inches of loose insulation on top of what was there for a total depth of 22 inches. All of this work was done.

+ 0 moreIt went very well. They were on time, and covered our hardwood floors so no damage would occur. Matt was very professional and kept us informed the whole time. The catwalk was not in the original estimate so he had to go get materials to do that. the extra cost of $225 to build the catwalk was worth it to us. We will use them again for any work we need done. I assume the price was good because we participated in a Angies big deal where we paid $150 for $500 worth of work. We had previously had an estimate of $1000 for insulation only. We are happy with the result and the price we paid.
Description of Work: craftsmen home improvements: -replaced 10 soffet vents -vented the bathroom vent through the roof. It previously vented into the attic. -built a 24" frame around our all house fan -constructed a lid for the all house fan (previously the fan had no cover or insulation) -Constructed a catwalk to the all house fan to enable us to remove the insulated lid so it can be used -added extensions to the vents into the attic so they would not be covered with insulation -insulated the attic entry door. -blew insulation into the attic to raise the attic insulation from r19 to @ R50

Description of Work: Jim came out for an estimate to insulate our attic and upstairs areas. He was very knowledgeable, helpful, thorough and professional. We ultimately did not have Craftsman--or anyone--insulate, because of budget concerns. We plan to use them in the future and were very happy with the prospect of using them.

+ 5 moreOverall the project went well. For the most part they showed up when they said they would and if there was an issue they did a good job of communicating. Initially I was concerned the the project may have been to big for them but, again, at the end of the project we were pleased. Their laborers were well mannered and considerate, they cleaned up on a daily basis and -this is important - they took responsibility for errors that they made. The most concerring issue was the re-framing of the two large picture windows. The work required the glass to be removed and replaced after the framing was complete. The first window that was removed was dropped an broken. They replaced not only that window but the other one as well because we wer concerned about differences in the glass between the two. All things considered, I would not hesitate to use Craftsmen again.
Description of Work: They replaced a second story deck, membrane roofing under the deck and on othe low slope areas of the roof. They re-roofed the rest of the house with asphalt/ fiberglass shingles. We had two 6' x 8' dual pane fixed glass windows where the sill had rotted and needed to be reframed and re-placed. They replaced 4 or 5 other windows Finally, re-sided the entire house with Hardi-Shake siding.
