Services we offer

Castle Building & Remodeling is truly a Design & Build Remodeler. We have a large repertoire including: Kitchens, Bathrooms, Attics, Basements, Design & Build Home Additions, Master Suite Additions, Second Floor Additions, and Interior Design Services. When hiring Castle BRI for your special project needs, we truly shine in the following categories: Decks (including side entry decks), porches, windows, doors/storm doors, carpentry projects, drywall, demolition, framing, interior doors and trim, painting, and tile. We have some of the most skilled craftsmen anywhere in these disciplines on staff and they’re more than qualified to tackle these jobs for you. Finally, if your project requires little to no design work, then it most likely will be a great fit for our small projects team.

Services we don't offer

We currently do not handle exterior repairs (including 2nd story), concrete / flooring only, insurance restoration work, landscaping, roofing, detached garages, and small amounts of single trades like: masonry, painting, roofing, siding, electric, plumbing, and emergencies. We also do not handle things like plumbing, electrical, HVAC, flooring / exterior trim repairs. If these issues came up mid project, our team would subcontract out those types of projects to our trade partners. Finally, small handyman jobs would also not typically be covered by our team.

Description of Work: I purchased a bathroom design with measurements, plans and 3-D rendering. With encouragement from initial call to company, I asked for update of current bathroom and estimate for possible new bathroom in basement. Design for upstairs bathroom included demo of tub and addition of shelves not discussed or wanted at initial visit. A revised plan was emailed, but made me question accuracy and listening skills of designer. | |Estimate for possible new bathroom in basement was provided but the suggested site did not seem plausible due to location of furnace ducts, pipes and very low overhead space. I was confused by a $225 Bathroom Design Agreement included with my project estimate (minus my $60 big deal payment) as I thought this is what I had purchased through Angie's List. Perhaps this was for a more detailed final plan if I went forward with the project? | |The total cost of the proposed project was too expensive for me. Castle says they are willing to work within customer's budget and I would have considered further negotiations, but I admit I was disappointed there was no follow up from the company regarding my decision.

Thanks for the feedback. Our records indicate that we did indeed follow up including additional meetings with the client. We have contacted the client again to offer any additional services that she felt were not met. It does appear however that the services offered in the "big deal" were met. A $60 design offering is a preliminary examination of the space and a budget for the design as indicated in the plans and 3D rendering.

Description of Work: A kitchen remodel that never moved beyond kitchen design...never heard from contractor, only their freelance kitchen designer. Either they really don't want to work in my area, or $80,000 plus two bathroom remodels isn't enough to interest them. | |They also declined to answer technical questions before the design process, which is the least efficient way to go about it. Note: i would happily pay for the extra time--i prefer to plan around problems and headaches, as opposed to designing them in. I prefer to make it easier for the builders than harder, and to spend extra money on upgrades i can see. | |In the end, i got tired of waiting weeks for a reply to my emails and having my questions overlooked. | |The designer, who was very nice, was clearly overworked, and yet i never once heard from a project manager... especially surprising since they were recommended to me by a colleague of theirs in a local business organization. That said, they were very prompt and professional in the billing department {really, that isn't snark}.

Thank you for the update and explanation of your experience. The design professional that you met with was not a free lance designer but an employee. She has since left the organization however we did discuss your project several times. She and I both attempted to email and call you in order to continue the design process. After numberous failed attempts that are documented in our contact management software we reluctantly assumed that you were no longer interested in the kitchen. I apologize if this was in error but we did make several efforts to contact you and finish the process. Please let me know if we can now be of assistance to you. Thanks for the review. Without a description about your experience it is difficult to respond to your ratings. Handyman or special projects is a service we provide for those people who do not have the time or expertise to do smaller repairs or improvements around their home.

Our design deals are a very inexpensive way to explore the design process in your home and understand our typical pricing for the work. I am glad you found value.

Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal from this company for a custom bathroom design, measurement, plans and 3D design. It was fine and it was a good service. I only gave them a B, because of the price, but everything else was an A.

Response from Castle Building & Remodeling
Thank you for the feedback. I assume you are speaking of the pricing for the proposed work was higher than you expected. That is ok and part of the process. We work hard with many clients to meet budgets and manage expenditures while still getting an updated well designed space. With that said remodeling is expensive and it is better to understand the costs before you have your space torn up and have no choices.

Description of Work: Paid for a bathroom design. Intended to contract for the work because we we're led to believe the job could be done within our budget which we made them aware of from the beginning. None of the bids or design numbers came near our budget. Feel they should have made that clear before taking not just our money but more important, weeks of time we intended to be used for the project.

Response from Castle Building & Remodeling
Thanks for the feedback. Pricing is discussed early in the process but some understanding of the design is critical for accurate pricing. So as we provided a design and a budget the client is free to decide to not go any further with us. We find this process to be favorable to starting with an unrealistically low price and adding items after the job has started.

Description of Work: They provided me with an estimate for remodeling my basement. They came over and talked to me about what I wanted. The estimate was fine. The never followed up with me and I was impressed by another company so I decided to go with them instead.

Description of Work: They drew a plan for an upstairs master suite bedroom. They gave us an initial estimate. Once they designed the plan the estimate was double what they had originally said. We liked the people we worked with. The shock of the increased cost made us choose a different company to do the actual remodel.

Response from Castle Building & Remodeling
I am sorry that we were not able to perform your remodel. The design process will sometimes cause budgets to be pushed. We would rather discover additional costs during our intensive design process (before a contract is signed) than during the actual work. Thanks so much for the input

Description of Work: I was interested in an estimate for a facelift for a small bathroom. The representative was professional and courteous and came up with some good ideas. Unfortunately, her initial options were too expensive and outside of my budget. We worked to try to bring the cost down but it never got to an affordable place for me. I'm not sure that she totally understood that I just wanted to update the bath and not spend $8-10k doing so or maybe I just don't understand the world of remodeling. I ended up using a handyman and got the job done for less than $3k. It took longer but I'm happy with the results.

Description of Work: Got an estimate for bamboo flooring (one of three estimates) for about 650 sq ft. Their estimate was lots higher (by several thousand dollars); their measurements for the areas involved differed greatly from my own measurements as well as from both of the other estimators. Needless to say, I chose to go with one of the other companies.
