This project which should have been simple has been a nightmare from the beginning. I needed a quartz countertop for my master bathroom. The lead times were excessively long just to get into their queue (over a month from measure to install) which drastically slowed down our project. Then, two out of the three measurements were wrong upon install--including the wrong size sink hole for our undermount sinks. Dealing with this has been a huge hassle for us and for the most part they have been challenging to schedule and work with. I am currently sitting at home waiting for them to arrive and they are 30 minutes past the promised window. I would never use again.

Description of Work: Had very good selection of granite salesperson very helpful in choosing the granite. I was disappointed with the final layout because a large flaw was centered right over the dishwasher in the most used area. We could have assisted with the layout but we trusted them to do it. If I had it to do over again I would have been involved in that process

My experience with Capital Granite was not the worst but also not the best or what I expected. If you are considering them, please read this. I had shopped out about 5 Granite Counter companies because this project was important for me to be done right, and at a fair price. I chose to go with Capital Granite because I had read a favorable review and they were priced decent (not the cheapest). I dealt with one of their sale people in the south western metro. I went to see their smaller showroom and they had some slabs and samples to view. Initial impressions were high. The sales person allowed me to take a few samples for free and was patient with me while I made my final decision on who I would hire. After deciding on Capital Granite and the product I wanted ( gold black xtra granite), I was sent the final proposal which was around $4100. I also asked to see the actual slab in St Cloud. I went up there to look at the slab and to my surprise found out that the price I was quoted was actually 2 pricing levels higher than what they had advertised for pricing on that actual slab. A difference of at least $500. So I brought it to their attention and the sales person was happy to make the price adjustment. My problem with this though was that if I decided not to view the slab, I would have never known and may have missed out on the actual price. The measurer came shortly after and took great measurements. He was probably the most professional of them. He made great measurements and even gave me some hints and tips about the install and care after. I was very happy with him. It took a lot longer than I had hoped to have them fabricate and install (a little over two weeks). They had to install the back splash separate which I was aware of and didnt mind so much because it was a custom height and they needed the counters installed first to make proper measurements of the back splash. The counter top installers were professional and did a decent job. One of the seams was fairly rough though from fabrication and was not as clean of a cut as the other seam at the other end of the counter. Also, the seam was not a straight seem, but curved. I dont know why. They installed in about 1.5 hours, took care of my floors with putting down tarps and cleaned up after themselves. After leaving, I noticed the rough seam and asked that when the back splash comes, that they try to smooth out this seam. The back splashes were ready a week later and it was scheduled that they would come out between 3-5 on a thursday. So my plan was to work till 2ish then head home to meet them. I got a call from them at 1:45 saying they were 15 minutes away. I told them that they were scheduled from 3-5 and that I was still at work. The person who called me argued about that and didnt take responsibility of the mistake which I was a little upset about. In my line of work, it is important that I am in the office, so me leaving early was a big inconvenience and I had to cancel a meeting with a client of mine. The person on the phone was actually a little rude to me about not being able to go into my house without me being there and about the scheduling mistake which was not my fault. Once there though, they were professional and installed the back splash. They had to cut into my wall and chip out an area of the wall that was bowed out, and would interfere with the backsplash. I was worried about that, but the end result was good. I wish they would have explained to me that they needed to do this before doing it though because I went to look when I heard all this hammering and chipping and was very surprised that they were taking out chunks of my wall. They also tried to fix that counter top seam, but it didnt come out much better. There is actual chipping on one of the two pieces that I thought they could fill in with something and buff smooth, but apparently not. Overall my experience with them was just OK and the finished product is decent, but I am still a little upset about the rough seam which in my honest opinion is bad fabricating. I understand that they are dealing with granite, and that there is no and quot;seamlessand quot; seaming when it comes to this type of work, but I have seem professionally installed counters in other houses and I think that they could have done a better job. At final invoice, the price remained the same which I am glad about, and they also asked me to complete a survey which I did. In the survey it is asked if I would like to be contacted which I said yes to. I mentioned all issues that I mentioned above. Lets see if they do contact me. If you are going to get granite work done. Shop around and get recommendations from friends or their past customers. There are a ton of granite companies in the Twin Cities and I kinda wish I did more research. I would not recommend Capital Granite.

First went to showroom in Edina. Then drove to St Cloud to see all slabs and the remnants. They have an AMAZING selection of granite and fantastic deals on the remnants. I was able to get extremely expensive and unique granite at a fraction of the cost with the remnants for my master bathroom. For the kitchen - the bulk of the cost - we went with a lovely slab of granite from Brazil. Josh was great to work with and they are more than helpful in design plan, set up at home and clean up. We really enjoyed the experience. I am super picky and they even spent loads of time letting me look at all the slabs available so I could pick the exact one I wanted and I was able to pick out which parts of the slab to use and which not. I can't rave enough about them -- for quality, choice and professionalism...AND PRICE !
