Brothers Electric came out to give me an estimate right after I called them. They showed up on time. Then mailed me the estimate within a couple of days. It seemed to be an average price for the work they were going to have to do. I have no complaints. I hope to use them in future.

irst time I had chandelier moved over and 2 outdoor electrical outets added. I had wanted additional work done but it seemed over their heads or work they didn't want to do . (adding a light switch to allow a fixture to turn on in 2 different modes.) Outdoor outlet worked only some of the time. After 2 return trips by different people they realized that they had tapped into a line that also controls basement light so outdoor outlet was "hot" only when basement light happened to be on. Lines clearly visible in unfinished basement. Second time owner came and completed some tougher work (Bob). Unexplicably though he left before completing all items and sent someone back to do the rest. They were not as competent. Bill high at $650.00. Third time I asked for a pendent light to be looked at and 2 additional inside outlets to be added. Guy came 40 minutes early, said 2 screws were missing from pendent but he "pushed pieces together and seemed fine now". I asked several times if other means could be used to keep pieces connected or other screws substituted. Worker said nothing would tolerate the heat of the light bulb and "(I) probably didn't want to spend my money having him run around looking for a screw that matched." I kept asking questions. He went off to put in outlets and asked if he could place one 3 feet off the floor on a living room wall because it would be "easier"! Then he asked my 15 year old daughter if we had any epoxy. She got it and he said he usually has some in his truck but didn't today. He used the epoxy to replace the screws in the pendant lamp and seemed proud in telling me that the heat from the light would only make the glue bond stronger. He just couldn't think outside the box until he could see that I (a woman) was continuing to struggle with how the problem could be solved! 2 outlets and the pendant deal was $350 as promised by the man who came and did the estimate weeks earlier. He said he emailed it and sent it (I got neither so I asked him to just quote it to me on the phone.) If you use this company make sure the "boss", as one man called him, does the work. He is the only one who is capable and doesn't mind working hard. His name is Bob. I stayed with this company too long because of the ratings it got on Angie's List. If you are installing new electric in a newer house I'm sure they can do the work. I have an older home. That doesn't explain it all however. I wouldn't use them again.
Description of Work: 2 outdoor outlets added, chandelier moved over 13" on ceiling, new pendant light not working, requested 4 indoor outlets (got 2). modification of electrcal switch requested but not done.

Response from Brothers Electric Co
This customer called us on three separate occasions to do work. The first call (5/18/08) was to install (2) exterior outlets and to move a light fixture. This work was completed and paid for. She called us approximately a month (6/11/08) later to tell us that one of the exterior outlets we installed was not working, this turned out to be a defective part that we replaced at no charge, as it was covered under warranty. Then we received a call (4/23/09) to install exterior outlets, install a pendant light and to repair the doorbell wiring. This work was completed and paid for. The final call we received from this customer was for an estimate to install (2) receptacles in the home. The customer liked our estimate and hired us to do this work (8/10/09). This work was completed and paid for. Our electricians do carry some screws on their trucks, however, we do not carry screws for every light fixture made. The electricians offered to go and find screws that would work and informed this customer we would have to charge for that time. Unfortunately we have to charge for our time to go shopping if it is an item not usually carried on our trucks. Our office was not made aware of any problems with any of the jobs we completed.

Very well...the guys showed up and got right to work. They explained what they were going to have to do to get the work done and it took a lot less time to do it than I though it might. They did not mind that I watched from time to time and were very quick and professional and personable. When it was done they explained the next steps and how it should go and that if I had any issues to call them and let them know.

As part of the purchase agreement on our house, we needed to get this work done quickly. When we called for an estimate, they didn't have an appointment for two days. I explained the urgency and the receptionist put me through to a manager. After speaking to the manager, he told me that the work would only cost around $200. What a relief! Then, he offered to send a crew over immediately. I couldn't believe the responsiveness. The electricians did a great job. They did have to install a new outlet box for the dishwasher which wasn't planned, but they still did the work for around $200. They were very friendly and efficient. The only complaint I have is that they really don't clean up much. I had to clean up under the sink and wash the floor.

From the first call I felt comfortable with the answers to my questions and the advice I was getting. Due to the nature of the project they sent a two man team. They worked very well together and seemed very efficient. Work was done quickly and everything turned out as we hoped.
Description of Work: They installed two ceiling fans (using existing wiring), three interior light fixtures, one exterior flood light that required quite a bit of carpentry work and an photoelectric eye for my landscaping lights. They also swapped out two wall switches.

We were initially told that they could wire the new ceiling fixture from existing outlets, and their bid was based on that. However, later that night (after they left), the new AFCI tripped and we had no power to most of our main floor (including the bedroom where the new ceiling fan was installed). I called and left a message that night, and I did get a call back first thing in the morning. The owner came out before noon the next day and explained that the AFCI probably tripped because of some wiring issues inside my house. He explained my options for getting the house properly wired, and up to code with the AFCI. I opted to have them come out and run new wiring to the new ceiling fan, and also had them install a new whole house surge protector at my box. So, while I wasn't planning on spending the additional $450 for the surge protector and new wiring, they did do a good job, and I am pleased with their workmanship. I would use them again.
Description of Work: Installed a whole house surge protector at utility box. Wired and installed a ceiling fan in bedroom where no light fixture existed. Installed and wired a new exterior GFCI outlet. Ran new wiring for the ceiling fan in bedroom and put it on a dedicated AFCI circuit.

Though the electrical work was completed and seems operable, the workers were sloppy and rather gruff with the finish work. In our living room, we had them cut 6 holes for the cans for recess lighting. In 2 of the 6, there were gaping holes in the sheet rock surrounding the holes where they had miscut, and some minor misfittings in 2 others. Their response: "you were going to plaster and paint the ceiling anyway, right?" Never was there a hint of "sorry," or "we'll make this up to you." Luckily my father was visiting and has some experience in construction, so he said he would do the patchwork himself -- but it took a full day of his time, and he estimated the job to correct their mistake would have cost us at least $200 for someone else to fix. We opted not to make a fuss with it since it we are on a timetable to get the work done and worried that expecting Brothers Electric to send in workers to patch it up would take weeks. We had similar dissatisfaction in the bathroom. They installed a light fixture/fan unit, but failed to get it flush against the ceiling, which looked rather sloppy. When my dad asked if they could get it fit better, they said no without much explanation. My dad went ahead and made some adjustments after they left to get it flush. We had asked that the hallway have 2 cans also cut for the new recess lighting, but they determined it wasn't possible -- their explanation was confusing and unsatisfactory to my dad, we didn't quite understand the problem, but they were not really interested in either problem solving or explaining the issue, so that wasn't done. Lastly, the motion sensor on the garage door was hooked up with the light switch inside the garage, which rendered it ineffective. We did call and complain about this error, and the same 2 men had to come back to correct their mistake. (They came a week earlier than we had scheduled, and caught us off guard, which was annoying, but at least they got it done. They didn't bother to check in with me before leaving, which also felt very unprofessional -- as though they were upset with us for asking them to come back to correct their mistake.) All in all, we were quite displeased with the communication, lack of attention to detail, and service of these workers, though the electrical work itself seems to be satisfactory.
Description of Work: We had recess lighting put in our living room ceiling (under unfinished attic), a ceiling light and fan in our bathroom, a 3 way switch in our kitchen, a new basement outlet in our laundry room, and a motion sensor installed on our garage. In addition, while they were here, they fixed a dead switch for an attic fan and installed an exterior light fixture.

Was a very good experience. They made two trips. First, they came and diagnosed the probem within one hour of my initial call. When I called, they answered the phone promptly and asked a lot of questions about the nature of the problem in an attempt to determine of the cause of the problem required their services and to try everything before sending anybody out. The phone attendant told me that it might be difficult to schedule somebody for the same day and so we made a firm appointment for the following day and the attendant promised me that if anything freed up that afternoon that they would call me and send somebody out. I told him that the problem was not urgent--but he insisted that he wanted me to be taken care of as quickly as possible. A few hours later I received a call and was told that if I could be home in 30 minutes that they could send some one out. I drove home and a pair of electricians arrived punctually. They asked me a few questions about what had happened and I led them on a quick tour of the house. Immediately they got to work with diagnostic equipment and started narrowing down the root cause of the failure. I left them alone and did some yard work while they worked. After exactly one hour they had notified me that everything was fixed. They offered me a crisp explanation and gave me the bill. Two mistakes I made: I forgot to give them the Angie's List Coupon. I forgot to ask them what their labor rate was up front--although, I admit I still would have payed $120/hr. Still, other electricians I have dealt with recently have charged $100/hr. Still, I would argue that they do offer superior service in exchange for what I see as a $20 price premium.
Description of Work: I called because my electricity mysteriously stopped working on my second floor after I installed a window air conditioning. After checking the breakers and doing simple diagnostic work I called Brothers Electric Co. After the crew arrived, they determined that an outlet had a bad connection that was interrupting electrical service to the other outlets and appliances on the same circuit. They fixed the connection and charged me for no parts and 1 hour of labor. When I checked my watch they had taken 1 hour of time exactly. They put everything in the house exactly as it had been. I was very pleased.

I called on Monday June 8 to set up an appointment for some electrical work in my house. We agreed on a morning time of a few hours on Thursday June 11. No one showed up for the appointment, and I got a phone call at 4:15 that afternoon from Bob saying he'd been held up at a job and could we reschedule. We did reschedule for Tuesday June 16 between 1 and 3:30pm and once again no one came. I have not even received a phone call this time. I will search for another company to do my electrical work.

Response from Brothers Electric Co
On 6/11/09 our electrician had gotten tied up on a previous project and called to reschedule with this customer. Unfortunately, sometimes this does happen and we do our best to keep our customers informed if we run into a problem such as this. We rescheduled for 6/16/09 between 1:30pm and 3:00pm. Our electrician showed up at the property and nobody answered the door. The electrician then called the phone number we had on record and there was no answer. Our office has not been contacted by this customer to return the call. We do our best to gain entrance to a property but if the customer is not available at the time of our appointment, we can not complete a job. Sometimes our customers make other arrangements for us to gain entry like giving us garage codes, lockboxes, or hiding a key. This was not the case for this project.

I met with Denny, one of the brothers, for a estimate to a home we purchased. He was on time and very friendly. After a few weeks, I called Brother's electric and told them to come do the work. They were on time and they were very professional. They cleaned up any messes they made and were in and out in less than 4 hours. I installed a different light than they had put in for us and found that I needed a different type of screw. I went to their office and they were kind enough to supply me with the screw at no charge.

I set out to take care of an earlier commitment since Brothers Electric was due to arrive at or around 9:45 AM on Friday 5/8/200. When I returned at 9:10 AM with what I though was plenty of time to spare, they were sitting, I think, patiently waiting for me. The two of them were certainly punctual, both personal and professional. I explained again my problelm to which they asked a couple of questions and went to work. They quickly determined that it was not a major problem as I suspected and proceeded to repair the problem. I was also able to use a $15 coupon provided to Angie's customers.

This crew was perhaps the messiest pair of 'professionals' that I have ever encountered. They left a trail of leftover wire and material everywhere they went in my home. When it was necessary for them to go to an out-of-the-way corner of my laundry room, instead of asking somebody to remove items from a clothesline, they carelessly shoved them aside, knocking some to the floor and then WALKING on them. One of the reasons I chose this company was that other reviews applauded their cleanliness -- what a bitter disappointment! Do you really want somebody that inconsiderate doing electrical work in your home? Does that make you question the quality of their work?

It is true our electricians needed to get back into a remote corner of the basement to ground the service properly. Our electrician believed that he had enough room to get by the rack of clothes, but as it turned out he did not. He believed that he had picked up all the clothing, but because of the darkness of the corner he did not. This was not an intentional disregard for a customers belongings. We are only human and try to do the best possible job we can for to have satisfied customers. We had a phone conversation with this customer and sincere apologies were made on behalf of our electricians. I would like to thank this customer for his comments, it helps us to know areas where we can improve. ~amy

There were two gentleman who came out. It was really cold and everything was frozen. They were able to replace it on the coldest day of winter. I am five blocks away from their office and they were here in ten minutes. It took a half an hour to do the job. They went downstairs to make sure it wasn't the furnace. They stuck it out and got my furnace back on . Bless their hearts. I really appreciate it. It was below zero when they were out there working. I received compassion from them when I called. They are in the neighborhood for many years and we have used them before too. They came in and it took them about 45 minutes to complete the job. They were careful as they had to do a little work on the front porch and they didn't want to damage the carpet or any thing. After a power outage we had several outlets that were not working and which did not have reset switches. Resetting the fuses did not produce results, so we called Brothers. The individual who answered the phone listened to our problem and provided us with very accurate advice on how to attempt to resolve the problem ourselves, saving us the expense of having Brothers come to our house for a repair call. We followed the instructions provided and were able to resolve the problem at no cost. A less scrupulous business would have been happy to come to our house and charge us to fix the very minor problem, and we appreciate Brothers' integrity in addressing our issue. We will certainly use Brothers for any future electrical problems that we might have.
