It was a good experience. They were good problem solvers and knew what they were doing.
Description of Work: They replaced a couple of light fixtures outside of the house, replaced 2 smoke detectors with detectors that do both smoke and carbon monoxide detecting, fixed a doorbell that previously was not able to be fixed by someone else, replaced the light fixture in the storage area outside with a motion detector. The previous work was not up to code, and they brought it up to code. They also put a shut off box in there. Price includes fixtures.

This is the worst grade I've given on Angie's List. I feel bad about it because really, the guys that came were nice and did a good job, both of the brothers, Mike and Denny were very nice. I have no problem there but my appointment was for 8:30 in the morning and they were 55 minutes late. No phone call either, I finally called the office at 9:05 asking what's up and Denny said, yeah, they're running a little late. Please... at least be considerate for other people's time. A person literally puts everything on hold when they're waiting for an appointment. I understand things come up but there's no excuse for not calling, and then call before the scheduled time because you already know if you're going to be late or not. Almost an hour late with an early morning appt. and receiving no phone call effects the professionalism grade along with responsiveness.
Description of Work: Installed a dining room light, one outside outlet, two indoor outlets in unfinished basement along with a work room shop light and moved the existing single bulb light over. Also swapped out an old thermostat with a new programmable one.

Excellent experience from scheduling the quote to completion of the job. The crew was great, installed everything efficiently and were really clean. I will use them again and I recommend them very highly. They also honored the Angie's list coupon and were the best quote overall. I can see why this Company gets Angie's list honor year after year!

Very satisfied with this service. The electrician first fixed the faulty outlet, by quickly identifying a breaker issue. He then moved on to running the electrical outlet. He explained a few options to me, and when the first, easiest was not possible, he explained why, and what he'd do next. He was able to use existing wiring in the basement to run up into the kitchen. In the meantime, he identified some issues with the light sockets in my laundry room, and the doorbell. I was aware of the light issue (it was broken, and hanging) but had NO idea it was causing the doorbell issue. He picked out a few other bizarre wiring issues in the house. He fixed the light, and the doorbell for me, quickly. He also helped me to figure out a light switch that appeared to do nothing, and explained what I could do myself (safely) to figure out what it powered, and fix it!! He then asked me some questions about the recessed lighting I wanted, gave me some rough estimates, and information on what I needed to know to purchase the supplies myself (not required, my choice...). He also told me about the type of wiring I have (aluminum) and what that means for choices I might make about the house and remodeling going forward. He was extremely helpful, full of information, and felt like the handy dad or grandpa that every single woman should have. I felt very comfortable with his recommendations. I highly recommend him, and Brothers!
Description of Work: I made the appointment to have an electrical outlet installed in my kitchen, have another faulty outlet looked at, and to get an estimate for recessed lighting in my kitchen. The electrician (I wish I had his name, he was GREAT), did all of that, plus some!

Couldn't be happier with the whole job from start to finish.
Description of Work: I wanted an estimate on installing an outdoor electric outlet as close to our garage as possible. It was 4 pm when I called on Monday, March 8. Denny said he could come by on his way home that same afternoon, which he did. I had the estimate in my e-mail the next morning, I accepted the offer, an appointment was set up for the next morning, work completed as promised in one hour and billed exactly as estimated---minus the $15 off for the Angie's coupon.

We decided on Brothers Electric because they were competitive w/other quotes but most importantly they offered creative suggestions on how to accomplish the job w/o running electric outside the house. The individuals that did the work did an excellent job. They were efficient, did a very good and thorough job and cleaned up after. We have already recommended them to friends.

After discussing the project scope with a Brother Electrics representative they came back with a $800 estimate. Based on this estimate we decided to move forward. Our basement is unfinished so the job was fairly straightforward. Installation quality was ok but not great (a doorframe was slightly warped in the process). After the job was completed Brother Electric employees asked us if we were planning to finish the basement later on. We said that we were considering it but did not have a date in mind so the work should be considered completed. As a result we received an invoice for the work that we paid immediately. A year later we received another invoice for an unpaid amount of $800 (plus late fees). Turns out that the work permit was still open because Brother Electric "understood" that we were going to finish the basement at a later date - which never was the case. We asked Brothers to send us an itemized bill detailing exactly the work that was done so that we can assess whether there was still an open balance to be paid. Instead we received a 4-line bill with an open amount of $150 that we decided to pay to move on. After doing some research it seems that this type of practice (electricians leaving work permit open for "more work") is unfortunately widespread. If you decide to use Brothers Electric (or any other electrician for that matter) make sure to ask for a detailed bill and ensure that the work permit has been closed after the work has been done.

Response from Brothers Electric Co
Brothers Electric Company provided an estimate for $1695.00 to do a complete remodel of the basement. This was to bring the basement to a finished state. This customer paid $847.50 as a down payment prior to beginning this work. We began the work in Dec. 2008 and did the "rough in" of the project. I spoke with the customer in March, May, and July of 2009 asking him when they would be ready for us to come and complete the finish work. When I spoke with the customer in July 2009 he informed me they were approximatly 6 months away from being ready to finish the project. I set the paperwork in our "jobs in progress" file and was planning on calling them again in the beginning of February 2010. Our office received a phone call on Feb. 4th, 2010 from this customers wife stating they decided not to finish this project and to do what we could to final out the permit and send them a final bill. We did as we were asked on Feb. 5th, 2010. I am unsure where any confusion came in on this project, it was the understanding of Brothers Electric that this project was always going to be completed based on the phone conversations with Frederic. Once we were notified it was not, we were happy to get it off our books as an open project. I am unsure of what we could have done differently in this situation but if anybody has ideas, please feel free to let us know! Thanks Amy

I needed electrical for a new kitchen exhaust vent. Because of our layout the installation was complicated, but the electrician did a nice job without cutting any extra holes in our walls. The company gives free estimates and charges $85 per hour plus materials. I was happy with the finished job, and will call them again if I need future electrical help.

We appreciate your comments, I just wanted to clarify something from your post. Brothers Electric Company charges $85 per hour for one electrician and $120 per hour for two electricians. Sometimes if you have larger projects or a punch list of items that need to be done, it can save a customer some money to have two electrician working at the same time to finish things a little faster!

I had them come out to install 3 outside outlets. I thought the price was quite high, but went ahead anyway. They arrived promptly and got the work done quickly, but I hate the fixtures they installed. They have a 2 inch hard plastic box protruding out and a large brittle plastic bubble over that. In order to plug in a cord you have to squat almost to the ground, lift the cover to see where the hole are are and try to fit the cord into the slots that go sideways. Because the two outlets are so close together, its almost impossible to plug in more than one cord. Two of the plastic bubbles have already broken off. In their defense, they told me they had to use these boxes because they were code. If I could rate whoever designed this dumb box I would give them an F! Bottom line is I spent too much and am not happy with the result.

The person I spoke with on the phone was very friendly and made sure they could install this particular light before confirming the appointment. The guys came right on time. Overall the work was good, but I felt that he ignored me when I explained which dimmer switches we had (purchased separately) and where they were to be installed because he asked me a few times about it. When one of the new switches didn't work (it was a single pole and should have been a three-way switch) he didn't offer solutions. I asked them to at least put the new cover plate on so it matched the new ones and he did. Also, they did not remove their shoes - or even ask if it was okay to leave them on when they came into the house. They did a very nice job installing the light!

Unlike another top ranked electrical contractor, I was able to set up the work with Brothers on short notice. They ran an elctrical line from my basement, through the foundation of the house, underneath a deck for about 15 feet to an outlet they mounted beneath the surface of my deck. They then connected the line to an indoor switch, so that I can turn low voltage lighting I'm installing to highligh a tree my deck is built around on and off from inside the house. Overall, their work was high quality. I have only three minor issues to note: first, they arriaved 1/2 hour late after calling to say they needed to stop at the stoer on the way for supplies. Second, there was a small opening around the line they ran through the foundation that needed to be "plugged". I spotted it when they were ready to leave, and they fixed it. Third, they left some small plaster chips on the floor where they installed a switch.

They came out quickly and they came out on time. The price was high. We have two gas irons in two different bathrooms which are on different circuit breakers. They both blew because two gas irons and the hair dryers were used at the same time though they were on different lines. These guys came out, one of them looked at the gas iron and the other guy installed the local lamp. When they were about to leave I went to close the breaker box and noticed that the one of the breaker box had blown out. I went to call them but they were not willing to come back, finally I made them come and look at it. They found that some body had connected both the bathroom lines to the same break box and finally they fixed the problem. They were not able to find the actual problem.

I found Brothers on Angie's List Wednesday, speaking to Denny who arranged an estimate visit for the following day. He arrived early and quoted me an hourly rate (for 2 electricians) for the services I requested, He estimated the work would take "2 hours, 3 hours max." He said the work could probably be done the following week, and that Mike would call to schedule a time. Mike called within a couple hours and said the work could be done the following day (Friday). I received a call from electrician, Jeff, as requested when they were 15-20 minutes away. Jeff and Joe arrived at the agreed upon time. They inquired about my needs and promptly began to work. A couple of unforeseen problems accessing existing electrical boxes in the ceiling occurred (not caused by them), and they were forced to cut holes in the ceiling of two rooms to accomplish the end results. These holes will require patching, but they were cut neatly and as small as possible to gain access to what they needed. Despite the unexpected problems and frustrations, both Jeff and Joe maintained a positive and calm attitude throughou the work, and ultimately accomplished everything I had requested. They offered helpful suggestions and alternatives when I was unsure of the best way to proceed. Upion finishing the work, they cleaned up all work areas. The work ended up taking about an hour longer than I was quoted, but only because of the unexpected inaccessibility of the electric boxes that were buried by a previous ceiling repair. Otherwise the time estimate would have been right on. I will definitely be calling Brothers Electric again as my remodeling project continues in stages.
Description of Work: Rerouted electrical wires and conduit between the ceiling and roof to allow for a roof access hatch, moved wiring on wall to to provide better placement for lighting a stairway, ran power to the living room ceiling and installed a ceiling fan/light combo.

Electrician called me to let me know he could come early. I was very pleased. He arrived, looked over the disposal and electrical system, got to work right away, and diligently completed the job. He added a switch for the disposal and had to cut and drill through our ceramic tile backspash. He did a great job and made everything look complete and professional. At the end, he explained everything to me and even took an additional 5 minutes to install a new thermastat I had recently purchased.

The main circuit breaker for our house kept tripping. We called Brothers Electric at about 12:30 in the afternoon and someone was at our house to fix it within two (2) hours. He explained that there was a loose screw that caused one of the circuits to overheat and trip the main breaker - in other words, it was doing what it was suppose to do. He tightned the screws and was confident that that should take care of the problem.

Since moving into our home four years ago, we have considered a post light for our front yard to help light the steps leading to our home. We contacted three companies for bids and chose Brother's because of the their price and previous experience with the company. The guys from Brother's showed up on time and did a great job installing the post light and hanging the sconces. Best of all, the post light came with a photo cell switch to turn on the light when it got dark. We noticed the first night, that the light kept turning on and off at dusk. I quickly realized that the light fixture's photo eye was mounted too close to the light which was causing the light to turn off once the light came on and then on again when the light went off. The following day I called Brother's and told them of the issue. Even though we had not purchased the light from them them, they still came up with a fix with included a rubber "hood" to shade the photo eye from the light fixture. Great service when you consider that they could have easily pushed this back to us to work with the retailer were we purchased the light.

Mike answered the phone when I called. I explained my concern about a light in the basement that shocked my husband when he tried to change the lightbulb. It was 4:15pm and he was the only person in the office. He asked if I would like him to come out that night. I said that I did because I was worried about the electrical problem. He came right away, was extremely pleasant and figured out what the problem was. He didn't have the parts with him so he came back the next morning and replaced two lights we have. The price was very reasonable and it was a pleasure to work with him.
