The whole process went very well. The sale person, Michelle, was very professional and helpful in the selection process. Once the order was placed, the delivery time was very quick (within a week). She even had a few color selection samples sent to me (I received it the very next day!) so that I could coordinate it with other things in the rooms. The installers did a great job and cleaned up afterwards.

Their prices were way too high. They gave me the information that I was looking for, although they did try to talk me out of something that I wanted. I wanted to put hardwood in my kitchen, and they were older gentlemen. In those days, they didn't do hardwood flooring, though everybody does it now. That's not why I didn't go with them. The main issue was that their price was too high. They were pretty prompt in coming out to do measurements and the bid. I appreciated that. I don't feel like I made a personal connection with those guys as much as with some of the other people I work with. I found them a little brusk, to tell you the truth. I would be willing to get another bid from them for carpeting work in the future.

The salesperson, Michelle, was professional and responsive. The store did not have samples of the ceramic tile, but Michelle let me take home the store's display placard. The invoice was clear and detailed, and broke out each item separately, including labor. The tile was back-ordered but I was not in a hurry. Michelle responded promptly to my requests for status updates. The order date was 4/27/10 and the installation date was 7/15/10. My main concern was with the installation, which I communicated in advance to Michelle. Once the tile had been delivered to their warehouse, there was a delay. Michelle told me that she had been trying to schedule their standard installer but he was not responding to her calls. I told her that I was willing to wait because I was concerned about the quality of the installation. She assured me that Pete, their alternative installer, would be fine. My experience with Pete was unsatisfactory. He was to arrive at 8 a.m. but he called shortly before to say he would be a little late. He had not yet picked up the tile when he arrived and asked me if I could give him directions to the warehouse (which I could not). On-street parking is metered so he asked if he could use my parking stall. I said yes so I drove my car to work and paid for my parking at a ramp. The backsplash runs horizontally between my counter and cabinets on two walls. The tiles were installed straight and even on the horizontal and vertical, but they are off-center. He started with a column of full tiles at the wall on one end. As a result, there is a pencil-wide column of tiles on that same wall at the other end, which is the corner. Then he started with a column of full tiles at the corner on the other wall. I had asked him to end the tiles where the counter ends. He did not do this and did not call me about it, even though I asked him to call me if he had any questions or problems. (In fact, that morning, he had given me back my index card with my telephone numbers on it, saying he already had them.) Instead, he extended the strip of tiles past the cabinets and the counter to behind the refrigerator, which looked ridiculous. I spent a subsequent weekend with a friend tiling the rest of the wall behind the refrigerator. His work was shoddy in other ways. He did not re-connect the receptacles correctly -- in one case he had not cut enough of the tile away to clear the screw hole, so we had to replace it. When I came home my kitchen was a mess. He had not cleaned up the grout he had dropped on the floors behind the stove and refrigerator. My granite counters were covered with grout. I later talked to Michelle about my disappointment but it ended there.

When I originally visited the store I wasn't sure whether I wanted to replace my carpet with wood or carpet. The salesperson, Michelle, was personable and well-trained. It was helpful that the store had both options. Michelle ordered generous-sized carpet samples which arrived within a few days. I made an appointment with her to measure my floor and she arrived on time. She then gave me clear estimates for various options -- wood in the closet/carpet in the bedroom, carpet throughout, and wood throughout. I decided to go with wood throughout. The invoice was detailed. It broke out each item separately, including labor. The wood was back-ordered, but I was in no hurry and Michelle kept me informed. The quote date was 4/12/10, the order date was 4/29/10, and the floor was installed on 6/25/10. Perhaps a week or two of the wait was at my convenience. My greatest concern was about the installation, but it was flawless. The wood was delivered a couple days ahead of time to allow it to adjust to the climate. The installer, Matt, arrived promptly at 8 a.m. as scheduled. He cut the wood on my balcony to minimize the mess. The workmanship is evident -- the boards are aligned perfectly and even the edges of the wood that were later covered with trim were straight and even. Matt returned about a week later and installed the trim. I am pleased with my experience.

Service was good. Mike Quist did the estimate and was pretty helpful in response to questions. The service staff at the store were moderately helpful. The installation guys were fantastic. I couldn't believe that they did all they did - take up, furniture moving, and installation - all in one day. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was that they didn't really have any creative or resourceful ways to end squeaks in one of our floors. They tried a couple of screws, but basically they just gave up rather quickly when it seemed like that wasn't working. One mentioned that others have tried putting baby powder in the area (as a trick to stop or minimize squeaks) but it's not like they had a bottle of powder available. If you're going to suggest that, maybe stick a bottle in your van. We didn't have any in the house. Other than that, they were totally great.

We received estimates from a few carpet places, and overall this was the best price and one of the most responsive places we worked with. Our salesman, Lynn, was very helpful and explained to us what type of things we would want to look for in a carpet in the space we had, as well as helping us pick out a pad. He was willing to work with us on price. They ordered and held the carpet as long as we wanted them to (we waited about 3 weeks from the time we ordered to the time we installed, it was our choice to wait so long as we were waiting for some furniture to come in). When we were ready to install, they were willing to basically give us any installation day we wanted, and work around our animals. I stayed home on installation day to keep our cat & dog out of the way. The installers were respectful, but during our measurements Lynn had said that the installers would come in the back and use the side door. So we shoveled the back walk and didn't have time to shovel the front. When they rang the doorbell they were already carrying rolls of carpet and I explained to them that the back walk and side door were for their use. They still came in the front door and tracked snow throughout our wood floors in our house to get to the back stairs. I shut/locked the front door thinking they would switch to the side door, and they continued to use the front door. I finally told them that they had to use the side door because they were tracking snow through the house, and they started using it then. They may not have understood me at first, but I thought that this might have been communicated beforehand anyways....and it seemed like they would have figured this out by themselves but didn't. Otherwise they were quick, quiet, and answered any questions I had. I was overall impressed with the quality of the installation, even in the trickier areas of our space. The carpet looks great! Lynn even called to check that I was happy with the job afterwards, which I am. I would definitely use Bloomington Carpet One again, as the price and the service was great, but if you are considering installation in the winter or on a rainy day, be very specific about installer instructions.
Description of Work: We had carpet reinstalled in about a 585 sq. ft area, as well as 13 stairs in our finished basement. We removed the carpet ourselves and they installed new carpet and pad.

The carpet looks great. We have used this company before, particularly their sales person Lee. He is a wonderful person to work with. We first met him in 2006 when we were looking for carpet for our living room and dining room areas. He was helpful, responsive, and easy to work with. We really liked the carpet we ended up with. We went back to him in 2007 to have the same carpet installed on our stairs and made into area rugs for our small upstairs hallways. Again he was courteous, profession, prompt about coming to our home, and understanding about needing to be quiet outside of our napping son's bedroom! It came out great. We continued to like it so much that we went back to Lee for our master bedroom this winter. Interestingly, the carpet had not gone up much in price since we purchased our first round in 2006. We just had our master bedroom carpet installed and it looks great, just what we wanted. We did not originally find Carpet one on Angie's List, but now that we are members of it, we want to make sure other members know about this good place, and about Lee.

I first went to another store nearby, but was disappointed with their sales staff, so I stopped in Carpet One without any referral or knowledge of their store. I was pleasantly surprised by Lee, who was very helpful and patient. I told him what type of carpet I needed and he showed me multiple samples in various price ranges, pointing out the advantages and disadvantages. We took samples home and Lee also ordered larger sample squares from the manufacturer that arrived FedEx in 2 days. The delivery was prompt. Lee let us delay installation for 3 weeks while I repainted a room and let the paint cure. The installers were prompt, courteous and efficient. This was definitely a more personal touch than I have received at a big box store. I would use Carpet One again and refer neighbors to them without hesitation.

I enjoyed working with Lee, the salesperson. He was not pushy, was knowledgeable. The showroom was very pleasant, compared to about six other shops we went to. The installation went well. They worked around our schedule of needing to do it in two days so that we could move our furniture. They give great warranties.
