I left a message and no one ever got back to me. The job was probably too small. Would have been nice to get a call back telling me that, though.
Description of Work: I needed a wall fixed that was just more technically demanding than I could do on my own; I called looking to see if someone could do the job.

It went very well, particularly the days when both of them were working together. You could tell they like what they do, and know what they are doing. I found Garth to be very clear and honest about what he could do and what I was able to afford; I appreciate that in particular because with an old house you could do more all the time, but you don't want to cut corners either. He helped me move the furniture in the living room so that it could be painted, and we also moved it back when it was finished. I definitely feel that I got time, attention and value for my money! I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. I have already seen more cracks I should fix in the spring!
Description of Work: I needed to have multiple plaster patches -- some from water damage, some from time in an old house, some from settling. Garth came and gave me an estimate for the work and suggested where the ceilings and walls might need to be painted. We agreed on the plaster work and that the upper hallway ceiling would be painted and the entire living room would be painted. It was a big job, and took four days of his and his colleague's time and effort.

We were looking for someone who really knew how to deal with an old plaster ceiling. We mostly found painters who did plaster as a necessary part of a painting job. We had plaster issues and we wanted someone who was an expert in PLASTER. Garth was perfect! He really know plaster and put his finger right on the problems. He did a gorgeous and thorough repair job that we are confident will last decades. He is very punctual, very nice to have in your home, and cleans up the area beautifully. We are very pleased with his work. In the end, we did not do a few other smaller plaster projects due to our budget, but Garth was helpful and honest enough that he gave me tips for how to do them myself. I would definitely hire him again and recommend him especially to people with old house and plaster.

We had an ice dam leak in March that damaged the wall and ceiling in our front entry way. The wallboard, insulation, and baseboards were removed by a company that specializes in that. Garth and Roy did the restoration, which involved replacing insulation and wallboard, removing wallpaper from the rest of the room, prepping the room for painting, painting the walls and ceiling, replacing molding and cleanup. They were very pleasant to work with and accommodated our odd schedule. The room looks great now and I would recommend them to anyone. Work probably could have been completed sooner but we had to wait for an inspection of our roof by the insurance company.

Garth was great to work with. He was extremely prompt from an estimate perspective and completed the work within one week of providing the estimate. He (and his sub-contractor) did a great job on all of the work. There was a little bit of paint that was splattered on the carpet afterwards, but I was able to easily clean it up and needed to vacuum to get rid of some small sheetrock dust / small specs, but I am not complaining since it was easy to clean-up. There were a couple of imperfections on the knock-down that Garth sanded down for me after the work was down so I was happy with the work that was completed. The final cost was about $50 more than originally estimated but that was because they found some additional water damage when they started working so seemed reasonable. I would definitely use Best Plaster and Drywall again.
Description of Work: Garth put some sheetrock and knockdown in my basement, removed some water stained sheetrock in a bedroom, and removed some old popcorn paint and repainted in our living room where we had had some water damage.

Garth was very responsive and punctual in coming out to bid the repairs and started on time. He and his crew fixed cracks and did a great job matching the texture in the plaster walls in my 1929 house. He also did a great job patching holes in the bathroom wall and ceiling. They also stripped wallpaper and skim coated. Then everything was painted. Because they were already here, we asked if they could paint other areas of the house and they were able to accommodate the add ons. The place looks great! They were fantastic to work with. We have a couple more rooms that could use a paint refresher and will be using them again.

We kept being delayed because of other projects he was working on such as foreclosure repair work. Went on for several months for what should have been a few days work. Besides how long it took, there were two major areas that specifically bothered me. They goofed up the electrical so bad that I had to totally disconnected one of the switches otherwise when it was turned on, it would blow a fuse. When asked to come back and fix it, after looking it over, he told me I would need an electrician. Second was the quality of work with the plastering and painting. Did not tape around the door molding. Plaster was very uneven, Paint job was just as bad.
Description of Work: He initially came and patched a hole in the wall. The service was good, so we hired him to remodel a room. Removed walls, plaster, paint, install sliding glass door. We also found out that he was a relative of my wife's

Beautiful work. Garth responded promptly to my call and scheduled his work to accommodate painters who were also working on the house. There was a large area that was damaged by water and the replacement plaster looks great and blends in with the rest of the wall texture. I had been concerned from stories of others that the repair patches would be noticable but even if you knew of the previous damage it is difficult to impossible see the difference between old and new. Price to fix drywall areas was comparable to that quoted by the painters and seeing the quality of Garth's work I am glad I had him do the work.

Our insulation contractor cracked the corner bead on the skylight tunnel while applying spray foam insulation to it. The insulation contractor was great to work with and there was no problem with them but it was difficult to find a contractor on short notice to repair the cracked corner bead on the skylight tunnel in the bathroom. We had a contractor lined up to start the job, then he declined, then he said he was wrong and would do the job. We said no. I checked Angie's List and found Best Plaster & Drywall. I called and spoke to Garth and explained the situation (I'm having shoulder surgery soon). Garth said he would see what he could do because they were very busy right now as any competent contractor should be. Garth squeezed us into his schedule to take a look at the project and give us an estimate. He said he would let us know the following day if he could do the project and on what timing. He called and let us know that Dan could do it. Dan came and did a wonderful job of scraping the ceiling and patching the corner bead. Garth was going to come on Monday to spray texture the ceiling. At the last minute my wife and I decided that we were tired of the spray texture "popcorn" ceiling and asked if Dan & Garth could squeeze in a knock down finish instead if the price increase was reasonable. Well as it turns out the weather was terrible on Monday so they preferred not to spray, Dan came over and skim coated and Garth sprayed the next day. The increased cost was more than fair and reasonable. The ceiling in the bathroom looks just great. In fact we are so happy we are going to have Dan and Garth eventually do the whole house. We highly recommend Best Plaster & Drywall. They were on time, professional and the job looks great. Plus they were significantly less expensive than the first contractor we had lined up!

Went great. Garth knew we were on a deadline, wanting to put the house on the market, so scheduled us for the next week and did the work later in the afternoon. Fitting us around his already scheduled jobs. He understood what we wanted to do and patched accordingly. Even giving us advice on areas that really DIDN'T need to be patched. Just painted. I've used Garth 3 times in the past few years, twice for water damage and now once for general maintenance of the walls. Every time his work has been excellent and his prices more than fair. Garth has excellent rates and does great work. I just wish I would have called him when I first moved into the house so that my walls were crack free and smooth from day one.
Description of Work: We are putting the 1910 house oh the market and had Garth patch all of the little cracks and old water damage that had just gone unnoticed until I started to really examine the place when putting it on the market.

It took 4 days and turned out beautiful. The resprayed ceilings match the ones that hadn't needed any work, a feat that requires quite a bit of experience and artistry. 4 men did the work. Two repaired the cracks, one did the painting and one did the spraying. They make an amazing team and do beautiful work.

Garth's quality of work is good. He was initially difficult to pin down to get on his schedule but once he started, he showed up as scheduled. At the end he gave us a handwritten, itemized list of repairs for each hole/fracture filled and seam sanded. That was how he initially bid part of it. After getting a $1,500 bill for 15 hours of work, I was shocked that he essentially charged us $100 an hour. We paid it and I left him a voicemail complaining about the high price and indicated that I planned to share my experience on Angie's List, but got no response from Garth. I think he does good work, but I suggest confirming his hourly rate in advance. I expected the job to cost half what it did. Garth also knew we were shopping around for an interior painter so he had a colleague give us a bid (the highest of five received). I was disappointed when Garth asked us what our budget was for the job. That should have been a clue to us that he charges what he thinks the client can pay rather than a straight hourly rate.
Description of Work: Garth patched nearly 20 holes in the ceiling where we changed locations of recessed lights, smoothed seams and filled cracks before painters came in. He worked 5 hours a day for three days.

I gave a bid for the work before I started which was accepted. However, after I started the job they kept giviving me add ons which continued throughout the course of the job. after three days I handed them an itemized bill which they paid.I thought we were finished and they were happy. They liked the work but they didn't like the bill.Normally, if there is an add on the cost is handled immediately no surprizes.

Initially we had some communication hiccups, but once we scheduled a day to make the repairs, everything went awesome. Garth noted it was a little bigger than he anticipated, but honored his original over-the-phone quote. He repaired the cracks and replicated the texture of the original plaster (1920-30s home) better than I ever would have imagined. He recommended we get the paint matched at Sherwin Williams (as we did not have any paint from previous owners). They matched it perfectly, and evidence of the cracks has all but been erased. I would definitely recommend Garth and Best Plaster to anyone needing plaster work or repairs done.

Very good. Did exactly what we wanted at a fair price. Showed up when he was supposed to and the one time he was late was due to an out of town funeral which he told me about a few days prior to the date he was due to finish. The ceiling looks much better than the original popcorn. Come to find out by talking to him that we was working with the show "Rehab Addict" during the day, so most of my work was done in the evening. All in all, a very good experience!

I used Angie's List to pick out the "A" people. Best Plaster was on the list. I called and the guy said, "Sure. I'll be over in half an hour." I asked him when he could the work and he said he would be back the next day. He did the whole thing. He brought in an associate. They got it all done in one day. It was really great. The work was excellent. The kitchen is fine. We had a problem where we had new water damage in the front room. I called him up and he was here the next day to repair it. It was on the weekend after Christmas. He was excellent.

He said it was a small job and since he lived nearby he would waive his $200 base price for me and quoted a very reasonable price. I waited all day, the day he picked to do the job, he called at 5p.m. to say he would not be over. He said sometime in the next few days he would come by and do the job. I waited two days and called him and he said he would try to come by the next day, but he said he would call me and let me know. I never heard from him again. I realize he underbid the job and decided not to do it, but he should have called to tell me that. So I wasted time with him and was not able to have a new microwave installed for Christmas.
