I initially called this company because they had done such a great job installing a bathroom in the basement of our Mpls bungalow years ago. There were various things that I needed help with this time. Tony came over and looked at the problem spots in our house and made recommendations. I noticed he was careful to indicate whether his recommendations were things that really ought to be done or whether they were "nice-to-have" items. All of the plumbing work that I asked for, got done as indicated. It took stamina on the plumber's part, because the city didn't get the water from the street turned back on for a few hours. I was not charged an excessive fee for the the extra time that Erin spent waiting around for them, plus she good-naturedly caulked the shower for me while she was waiting. And, she liked our cats. After the water came back on, Tony did some further work to replace more of the galvanized pipe with copper and showed me the mineral deposits that had been clogging up our water flow. He took the time to inspect everything and make sure it was done right. We have excellent water pressure now! Tomorrow I might even take a shower while the dishwasher is running - because I can!The only area of improvement would be to take more time cleaning up afterward, but frankly it was late into the evening by the time the city turned the water back on, so further clean-up was probably not a priority at that point.I would not hesitate to rely on Tony's expert advice, especially with an old house - he has seen just about any problem you can name. And I will undoubtedly use Barr-Web again in the future.
Description of Work: Install 2 new valves down by the water meter on the incoming water line. Replace several feet of galvanized pipe with copper. Replace the hot and cold water lines to the main floor bathroom, which involved tearing out part of a wall. Disconnect the old gas dryer and install a new (used) one.

I have never had a better experience. These guys, particularly the owner, were so wonderful to work with that you wanted to remain friends with them even after the job was completed. My highest recommendation.
Description of Work: Bathroom remodel. Removal of old tub and surround. Installation of new tub, tile, shower, electrical, reconstruction of bathroom shelving, retiling vanity, installation of new sink. (Cost mentioned above includes all fixtures and all services.)

We wanted a usable basement bathroom before we renovate the main bathroom. We didn't want to do this "on the cheap" nor did we need a "fancy shmancy" bathroom. We were very keen on having the contractor ensure the work met code (i.e., their responsibililty not ours) and that a master plumber was involved for our older home. We had two estimates and decided on Barr Web's. We felt Tony Webster's experience with older homes was a plus. Also, he was very candid about what we could expect, which really helped us with decisionmaking. Initially, we were a bit anxious about purchasing some of the materials as we were not very confident that we would make the right decisions, but we took our time and did our homework. Tony and his team, including subcontractors were great. They were professional, efficient and courteous. They took their time to do it right; we did not want a rush job. It took about 3 weeks (not including the holiday season). This was our first major interior improvement (other than window replacement), and all took the time to answer our questions during the process. Tony provided some great suggestions to improve the look. For example, we couldn't put in a ceiling over the plumbing without considerable cost - the ceiling plumbing was spray painted a dark color which, surprisingly, really improved the look. We are so pleased with the result, and now have a nice second bathroom. We plan to renovate the upstairs bath this year and plan to use Barr Web's services.
Description of Work: We have a 1950's rambler and decided to renovate an old unused 3/4 basement bathroom. We knew this would involve replacement of the shower stall, toilet, sink, light fixture, floor and some walls. We also added an exhaust fan with light and heat. The materials included with the cost were the shower stall and walls. We supplied the toilet, sink/vanity and hardware, vanity light, exhaust fan combo, floor and paint. Our materials cost in addition to the contractor's cost was approx. $2300, In order to meet code (one of our primary goals) and keep the original footprint, significant plumbing and electrical upgrades were necessary.

I would work with him again! The concrete that was poured to fill in the foundation after the piping was laid, was starting to chip at the edges. He is coming back this week to take care of the holes. I was impressed with how quickly he responded to my emails and to my concerns. I saw three plumbers in regards to this project, and we are happy that we decided on Tony!
Description of Work: We needed to have a second bathroom put in. We were planning to put up the walls and do the tiling ourselves. We went with Tony, because I was impressed with his options, reasonable pricing, and he wasn't pushing. He gave input and was great to work with. He worked around our schedule for the first couple of days of the project, and then left a lock box for our key, because we couldn't take work off to let him in later in the day. When I couldn't answer the phone when he was working on the area for the shower, he made an executive decision and put the shower on the opposite side of the room. He came back that evening to show me how much the shower would have covered the window. Even though I was sad that it wasn't going to be where we originally planned, I appreciated that he did the right thing. It was the right choice, and I am satisfied how it was set up. He offered suggestions, some we went with, and some we didn't. But he was very polite and helpful, even if we didn't agree.

Tony gave a fair estimate and was punctual and professional. He and his crew did a great job moving our gas line and prepping the drain for the sink. Tony will be returning to hook up our faucet, gas stove, and dishwasher. Overall, our experience with Tony was great.
Description of Work: We remodeled the kitchen in our home and Tony and his crew moved a gas line so we could change the location of our gas stove. He also fixed the drain for the kitchen sink so the disposal will function correctly.

Tony and his crew were very professional and focused in their work. He came out and did an estimate and we scheduled a few days later. They got right to work and worked until they were finished. They ran into some complications as it is an older home and fixed the problems. They ended up doing more and were able to stay with the original estimate. I know this would not always be the case as some complications can be very costly and time consuming. I feel they worked very hard and took their work seriously with a lot of attention to detail and making everything work properly. I would definately use them for other work. and would highly recommend this company.

Hiring Tony was one of the best decisions we made in our basement renovation project. We got several other quotes as part of the process and Tony’s price was very competitive. Not only did Tony give us a quote for the work we asked for, but he also provided some very helpful layout and design suggestions based on his wealth of expertise. We ended up modifying our plans based on his feedback (and some additional feedback from family members) and he came out to our house to make sure the quote was still accurate before beginning work. He was always very prompt and was very accommodating to our schedule. In addition, he made a couple extra trips to give us quotes on additional work (which we hired him for) and, while he was on site, provided us with invaluable information on how to navigate the Minneapolis permitting system (since we were acting as our own general contractors for the job, it was incredibly helpful advice). We would highly recommend Tony not only for the quality of his work, but also for the expertise he brings and his willingness to go above and beyond to satisfy the client. He fully guarantees his work and we actually called him when we were having some weird issues with the new bathroom and he came over immediately. It turned out that the issue (a paper towel or rag was clogging the line) was not at all related to his work, but he helped us remedy the issue just the same.
Description of Work: We hired Tony to rough-in a new basement half bath (toilet and sink), set the fixtures, move our washer/dryer and move some water lines into the ceiling joists.

My wife called and arranged for Tony to come over. Neither of us could be there so we left door open for him to come in. Originally we only wanted to have two toilets worked, though the same parts that were causing trouble with those were begining to cause trouble with the third. There was confusion about which two toilets needed to be worked on and Tony wound up working on the one that wasn't as bad yet. Given that we weren't there at the time we couldn't let him know which was which. When we called him later to explain the situation he came back over and did the last one for only the cost of the parts. Given that we would have needed to have the other worked on eventually we wound up getting a really good deal on all three. Thanks, Tony!
Description of Work: Tony replaced the internal components of our three toilets as well as the handles.

I have decided not to do the work this year, but when I'm ready to do it I will call on Bar Web again.
Description of Work: I am considering remodeling my master bath. I contacted several companies in order to get an initial estimate so I can decide if I can afford to do the work this year or not. Bar Web responded promptly to my request, provided a clear and very detailed estimate, and answered all my questions.

I have used them in the past too. The extra cost for the current project was due to them having to put in some electrical work as well. I trust them so much that they actually did it while I was not there at home. My neighbor let them in. They did everything and cleaned up after themselves, and I got a bill in the mail. The whole experience was great. They were very responsive via both e-mail and telephone. I feel like they are a family friend because I trust them so much. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

In both cases, Peter and Tony did an extraordinary job. They obviously knew what they were doing and did the work in a timely and efficient manner. They were also easy to work with and not only answered any questions I had in a way I could understand but were also excellent at problem solving. They had improved the product in the time between when I had them install the Presto Bath in my home and when my friend had hers done, so I know hers cost more than mine. She also had some extra plumbing done. We are both very happy with their work. I am going to be hiring them again to do some maintenance work on their product.
Description of Work: I was moving into a 1925 Craftsman style house in 1999 and needed a second bathroom in the basement. Peter and Tony installed a Presto Bath. Approx 4-5 years later a friend of mine needed the same thing in her basement (her house built in early 1900's too) and asked me to find someone to do so. I recommended Barr/Webb Presto Bath. She hired them, but was going to be out of town so I "supervised" installation of a Presto Bath and replumbling of nearby washing machine in her home while she was gone.

They were very responsive and easy to work with.
Description of Work: Contacted Barr Webb because a friend had installed a Presto Bathroom in her basement. At the time we contacted them, they weren't installing the Presto systems because of low demand due to the economy, but were more than willing to work with us to install a modest basement bathroom. We did the room framing and electrical ourselves, and they did all the plumbing work.

This was done in one day. Originally scheduled for a Monday they called over the weekend to say that it would need to be pushed back due to other jobs needing extra time so rescheduled to Friday. I needed to get to an appointment and the crew came 1/2 hour early on request. Tony stopped over to clear the drain earlier in the week because the work had been delayed. The rework of the space is amazing, and was done just the way I wanted it done. Great job!
Description of Work: The work included basement laundry reorganization: a new drain from kitchen sink above, new floor drain, new laundry tub mounted on wall (remove old concrete double tub and old pipes), moved gas line for dryer, and new dryer venting.

Everything worked out very well. They spent an extra couple of hours on the work on this installation and even added a special putty that solidifies around the rim at the floor which helps to stabilize the toilet as it attaches to the floor. The charge was only $50 beyond the original bid. They were very conscientious and knew what needed to be done each step of the way.
Description of Work: I asked Barr Webb to install an new toilet which we had purchased elsewhere. They were also removed the old toilet and brought it out to the trash by the alley. They spent a lot of extra time on the installation since in was a Toto toilet, which is not the typical design, and required some special assembly work and installation not typical with average toilets.

We got four bids and Barr-Web was the least by $1,000! Before we had all the bids in we preferred Tony's personality and attitude to the other folks anyway so it was a relief when his bid came in lowest. He was especially helpful with tips and info about the rest of the work which we will be doing ourselves. If we could afford for him to do the whole remodel we would! Tony has come back to check up on our progress and agreed to stop by for the last plumbing inspection (after we've finished our work) so we don't have to pull a separate permit. We will definately call Tony again for any future plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Barr-Web did all the major plumbing work in our bathroom remodel (we are doing the rest ourselves). The work included re-routing our toilet stack, installing new drains and pipes for a new tub location and a new shower. Re-routing the toilet stack was our biggest concern, and they did it more quickly and neatly than I thought possible. They were very professional and came when they said they would and cleaned up after themselves. They helped us understand the plumbing impacts of the design we chose and helped us make decisions that would impact that design (things like thicker walls and where a shower faucet can go).

The suggestion Tony made at the second of three visits for estimating the project was crucial. He pointed out that the existing medicine cabinet was not centered over the sink, and that was something I had not thought about. So I decided to replace the medicine cabinet also - and had a long delay for the delivery of the new medicine cabinet. Once it arrived I had a ready place on the schedule and the work was completed very promptly. The medicine cabinet was a little problematic to get to close smoothly (a manufacturing defect?) and Peter and Tony did spend the additional time needed to make sure it worked as well as possible. It was a pleasant experience to have such professionals working on this, and I will hire them again. I'll be saving up for a kitchen remodel...laundry redo...water heater...
Description of Work: The bathroom was updated with a new toilet, sink/vanity, faucet, medicine cabinet, and light fixture. I had purchased all these fixtures and Tony and his crew installed them and replaced the old cast iron and lead drains in the basement (which were rusting through). This project went through several bids and Tony had the best approach to the project and the best bid. It included replacing a dimmer switch, replacing - to secure in wall - a GFCI outlet, and rewiring some bare wires that had been added during a prior remodeling behind the medicine cabinet. These were not anticipated but were easily added to the work. It took a couple of days to complete and the results are stunning. I especially appreciated that Tony had arranged for Matt who helped with the plumbing and Peter who completed the electrical, carpentry, drywall and mudwork. This saved me from having to coordinate the project steps with separate contractors.

This was actually the second job that Tony Webster has done for us. A couple of years ago he remodeled our upstairs bathroom. He installed a new whirlpool bathtub with surrounding tiles. Improved the bathroom 100%. The current job was to remodel our downstairs half-bath. I arranged for Tony to do the work while we were on vacation, and as a surprise for my wife. Tony really loved this idea and set about to planning the work. The work was completed days before our return and the result was spectacular. Now we are going to have to make the rest of the house look as good as this bathroom. Tony is terrific to work with. He is a master plumber and works with first-rate people to things outside of his own expertise. He is the first person I would go to for further work. P.S. I recommended Tony to friends, and they were also delighted with his work.

Was having a new washer and dryer installed and realized the faucets for hook up of the washer were in very bad shape. I had heard of Tony through a good friend of mine and she called and made the appt. He called to tell me when he would be at my home and arrived exactly on time. He went right to work and did an excellent job at installing new faucets. I was very pleased and asked him to do an estimate on additional copper plumbing I need in my home. His estimate was also very fair and I will choose him to do the work within the next couple of months.
Description of Work: Replaced basement laundry tub faucets in a 1950 home. Also asked him to do an estimate which I felft was very fair. I found Tony and his assistant Matt to be very professional and I believe very trustworthy.

It is just plain crazy how much work was done by this crew in under two days. They promise a new bath in a day and a half and they can do it. The showed up early the first day (woke me up) and started work immediately. There really isn't any delay, and since you are purchasing a bathroom kit, really not to many home-owner decision except for where to put it. First day was loud and dirty, included lots of jackhammering up the floor, digging in the dirt, laying waste pipes and cementing everything down. Really, really messy. We had plastic up and walled off the entire area that they worked in, otherwise the entire basement would have been a total dusty dirty mess. Day two included most of the water supplies and bringing in the prebuilt walls and sections of the bath. They also did the washtub and other misc. items second day. Electric was hooked up and both electric and plumbing were inspected the same day.
Description of Work: Presto bath installed a 3/4 bath in our basement in just over 1 and 1/2 days. When they left it was completely up and running and inspected by the city. In that time they also removed and replaced old clogged floor drain (in the basement floor), installed a new double basin wash tub, added a new floor drain and rerouted some old plumbing that serviced a whole house water filter. This is a bathroom system designed specifically for basements. Its not very flexible, but has a few options. It is designed from the ground up to go in quickly. The overall build quality of the components could be better, but its a good value for the money.
