Barnes Plumbing Co Inc. started in 1982 when Jeff and Bill Barnes decided they wanted to open their own shop. A flip of a coin decided who was going to be the President and Vice-President. Starting off in the basement of an apartment building near Franklin Ave. in Minneapolis, they soon outgrew the space and have since been operating in their own building near Dowling Ave and I-94. In August of 2010, Bill and Jeff Barnes made the hard decision to retire. The company was purchased by Michael Pemberton a long time employee of 10 years. Michael believes in the same principles that Bill and Jeff had with their company of being fair, honest and giving quality service. Barnes Plumbing relies mostly on word-of-mouth referrals. They have been successful in this way because of the way they choose to run their business. Fair, Honest, Quality Service. For over three decades, Barnes Plumbing has stood by quality work, fair pricing and superior service to satisfy the plumbing and heating needs of customers.

The plumber came over fifteen minutes late. I'd started to wonder if I'd written the wrong date down. He was very professional and got the job done in just over two hours. It looked fantastic and I no longer have any more water dripping onto my basement floor from a leak in the laundry tub for which I'm very grateful. The only other complaint I had was that not all the concrete was removed so I had some clean-up to do at the worksite after he left. The project did come in under bid though which made me a very happy home owner. All in all, I would call them again.
Description of Work: Removed a very old metal laundry tub, faucet, and the concrete footings. He then replaced those items with a new plastic tub and faucet.

I have in floor heat (WIRSBO) poured in my basement floor and I need a water heater. After a recommendation from a family member, and the stellar reviews on Angie's List, I called. The woman on the phone didn't know where Inver Grove Heights is (it is a first ring suburb within the 494 loop). She got my information and then called me the next day, stating, "you called about the tubes in your basement" and that their company, despite claiming to cover the Twin Cities metro area on their website and Dakota County on Angie's List, did not cover my home, even though they didn't "Google" it. I think it is totally unprofessional to not even understand my request ("tubes" in my floor? I want a water heater!) and then to claim, contrary to every indication on their site that they would cover my home, when they do not (though they didn't Google it!). The woman on the phone claimed they are short staffed. Beware.
Description of Work: Unclear about my request for a water heater, and unable to Google my address, the provider claimed I was out of area

It went great. They were able to get the work done in a day and a half. The inspector came through and pointed out one thing they needed to fix and Barnes came back a couple days later and fixed it in less than an hour. Overall, this was a good experience and I would recommend Barnes.
Description of Work: I hired Barnes to come in and replace of the galvanized piping that was in my 1940's home. Some of the piping had been updated previously, but they came in and ran PEX to all of the areas that hadn't previously been updated.

Their prices were competitive, everyone I spoke with was pleasant, and the work was done properly and quickly. They took the initiative to fill out and mail me a CenterPoint Energy rebate form within days of the work. (I had forgotten about it.) I will defeintely hire them in the future.

He provided us with some recommendations for some other plumbing issues in our house. He even checked the water flow and the temperature of the water in all our taps for free after my husband asked a question about it. He really went above and beyond the scope of his job. They were very professional and answered all our questions. He explained what he was doing and why he was doing it. They took the old water heater away for us.

I called about 8 a.m. and described the issue. They said they could provide service as soon as 9:30 a.m. They called me at 9:15 and told me that the plumber scheduled for my call was unavoidably delayed due to complications on his first job. They then estimated that they expected to be here by 11. They called again at 10:45 and said further delays would mean they would likely arrive at about 2. I was then called at 1:15 and asked if I still needed service that day. When I said yes, Rueben said he was on the way. He arrived at 1:45. Throughout the phone calls I did inform them that this was NOT an emergency and I would be available most of the day. I talked to at least three people and all were very courteous. The job took some innovation and engineering on Reuben's part but he accomplished it and it looks very professional.

Barnes Plumbing did an excellent job in repairing various plumbing items in my wife's Eagan townhouse [rental]. They were punctual, hard-working, and did exactly what they promised for the price they promised, even when some of the installation required extra time. They held to a fixed price, even though they had to do extra work.

't any The pop-up sink drain was the 2nd time I called Barnes. The sink bowl had been knocked off the pedestal, and part of the drain broke. I tried to fix it myself, but it leaked, so I called Barnes. The plumber was friendly and professional. It was a very tight fit to get to the sink parts in the small bathroom, but he seemed to manage it well. He had to work at it for quite awhile to get it together without leaking - which I attributed to the old house. The sink still leaks on occasion, but I think it is the faucet that is leaking, as it may have been damaged when the bowl fell off as well. I also called them on another occasion when my dishwasher was leaking. It had been very cold, and the water line had frozen, then it leaked after thawing. It was a different plumber. He seemed professional. He removed the copper piping and said that there wasn't any damage to the pipe, so it must be the dishwasher, but he couldn't say since he wasn't a dishwasher repairman. He took the copper pipe and replaced it with a plastic flexible line. I was charged $166.05. I later found out that it was the valve where the water line connected into the dishwasher.

The bathroom faucet went o.k. except for the drain plug did not fit well. This was due to the poor design of the Moen product. Michael tried to remove the diverter cartridge from the bath faucet, but it was corroded in. He said I would need a new faucet and would have to take part of the wall out as I have no back access He then would put a steel plate over to cover up the hole. It would be a two hour job at $ 160 a hour. Looks to be a $ 400 + Job. For now I will put up with the squeal.

The sink work was fine. The toilet broke again a short time later but we hired someone else to fix it. The big issue was the clogged bathtub. The plumber used the wall opening below the tub and tried to clear the clog. He said he did not have the equipment to do it and recommended we call another plumber. The other plumber came and was able to unclog the drain from the bathtub opening. IT was so simple. The clog was right at the top and easily fixed. I called Barnes Plumbing and suggested the person they sent could not have been a plumber if he couldn't use a snake and unclog a simple drain. They refunded all of the money I paid them. I appreciate the fact that it ended up with my not paying for any of their work but I still think the person who came was not a plumber and should not have been passed off as one.

Excellent service. I had a copper pipe that had two pinhole leaks. The plumber (Larry) showed up on time and got right to work. It took less than an hour to remove the pipe (connected to the main inlet) and associated valves, replace the copper pipe, fittings, & valves. Top notch work.

I called Barnes in the afternoon looking for service ASAP. Two of our toilets were flushing very slowly and plunging wouldn't fix them. I was concerned that it might be a bigger issue and wanted a pro to take a look at it. They were able to send someone out the next morning. The person I spoke with was very polite and accommodating, and when I told her I found them on Angie's List she said she'd make a note to give us their standard 10% discount. The plumber, Austin, was professional, knowledgeable, and personable. He augered the toilets and cleared the clogs. Fortunately, the problem wasn't as major as I had feared and he was finished earlier than expected. I took advantage of the time and asked him to repair one of our toilets that was a bit wobbly but otherwise working fine, and he was happy to oblige. He was also very willing to let me look on and was happy to answer my questions and teach me a few things. When the time came for the invoice, I had to ask for the 10% Angie's List discount again, but he gave it to me without hesitation and even rounded the discount off $188 up to $20. All in all the whole experience exceeded my expectations. Excellent quality and customer service. I will definitely use them again the next time the need arises.

I don't think I would use this company again. The plumber they sent out initially rounded 50 minutes of work (which included a trip to get a part) up to two hours. At $160 hour, that is significant padding! He also charged another full hour ($160) to return a few minutes after he left when I called to tell him there was a forgotten pilot light (about 10 minutes). Because the quick connect line that needed to be replaced was not in stock, finishing the job the next day cost me another $160 for a full hour billing (it took about 20 minutes). In all, we were charged over $700 to cap two gas lines and attach a new line to my BBQ. It was probably less than 2 hours total service time, including the 40 minute trip to get a part (about 1 hour on-site). We complained. The company knocked off one hour but the ~$550 we paid still seemed high for what was done. I'll be calling someone else from now on.

As a result of a slow leak, the toilet would have to run every nine minutes in order to maintain the proper water level in the tank. We called Barnes and they came out the next day and discovered the plastic standpipe inside the tank had a large crack. We scheduled a time for the repair and Darin the service man was right on time. Barnes is the kind of company that puts customer service, efficiency, and value ahead of making a profit. We would not hesitate to go to Barnes if the need ever arises.

Jeff was able to diagnose a problem with my 20 year old boiler and find parts even though the manufacturer is out of buisiness. He warned me after replacing the igniter to monitor the system and sure enough it became apparent there was a second problem. I was not charged visit fees, rather time on the job. I found the rates to be fair and the parts were what I would expect.
Description of Work: fixed boiler that had intermittent ignition problems
