Barnes Plumbing Co Inc. started in 1982 when Jeff and Bill Barnes decided they wanted to open their own shop. A flip of a coin decided who was going to be the President and Vice-President. Starting off in the basement of an apartment building near Franklin Ave. in Minneapolis, they soon outgrew the space and have since been operating in their own building near Dowling Ave and I-94. In August of 2010, Bill and Jeff Barnes made the hard decision to retire. The company was purchased by Michael Pemberton a long time employee of 10 years. Michael believes in the same principles that Bill and Jeff had with their company of being fair, honest and giving quality service. Barnes Plumbing relies mostly on word-of-mouth referrals. They have been successful in this way because of the way they choose to run their business. Fair, Honest, Quality Service. For over three decades, Barnes Plumbing has stood by quality work, fair pricing and superior service to satisfy the plumbing and heating needs of customers.

Zach from Barnes came out and assesed the situation and came up with a resolution to our problem which wouldn't cost thousands and didn't include breaking up our basement floor! He did the job within the estimate and finished on-time. We will definitely use Barnes Plumbing again for any plumbing repairs and will recommend them to anyone who asks. Thanks Zach, job well done.
Description of Work: We had a leak in our drain running from the kitchen underneath the cement floor in our basement. We were without the ability to use our kitchen sink or dishwasher without having a spring running up from the basement floor.

Zack from Barnes Plumbing worked on our project and just did an excellent job. First, they were significantly more reasonable than other companies as we did get three estimates. This was a big project so we expected to have conflicts, but Zack was there pretty much on the project at every point he was needed. He had to wait quite a while for construction of the remodeled bathroom to get completed. Zack had suggested a contractor for this work, and we should have taken his advice. The contractor we hired we were not happy with as we didn't find him trustworthy and it took them a lot more time than expected because they didn't show up every day they promised. Zack worked around this easily. We are inexperienced, but Zack was patient, understood what our goals were and gave us what we thought was very good advice. On this project, he was easily the contractor easiest to work with, communicated well, set expectations well and made this part of the project the one we didn't sit up worrying about at night. I have referred Barnes to several of my own clients and friends and all of them have reported back that they were very happy with their performance.
Description of Work: We purchased a foreclosed property to repair and rent out. The home required all new plumbing as the copper pipes had been stolen, as well as new fixtues, water heater, boiler, and replacement of some of the radiators. The upstairs bath also required a nearly complete remodel.

The woman who took my call was very nice, asked pertinent questions about the job and gave me a quote, which was a reasonable price. She was able to get someone over that same day. The plumber did an excellent job on removing the old hardware and installing the new. He let me inspect the work. He was friendly and professional. The bill was for the minimum time, since the job went quickly. I was very satisfied with the results.

The woman at Barnes who I called for an estimate was very nice and covered all the costs, time, and details, and even the energy rebate info. She bid the job in at 3-4 hours and Zach was sure to finish before the 4 hours coming in at 3.5 hours. He worked hard cleaned up after himself and took the time to explain things and show me how to work it. I will call them again for other needs in the future.

The entire experience was excellent. When I called Barnes, the woman I talked with took the time to explain what products were available, how much they cost, and how much installation time was required. When I decided what we needed, she estimated that the total parts and labor would be about $700. This was the first plumbing company I've dealt with that gave a detailed estimate over the phone. The actual work took less time, so our final bill came to about $600. Last year we had our upstairs toilet replaced by another plumbing company and that work alone came to $800. So for $200 less, we got both a new toilet and a new sink faucet. We are very happy with Barnes, and will definitely use them again.

I will work with this company in the future. They are at the top of my list, should I ever need plumbing work on my new house.
Description of Work: In the process of selling my home an inspector found a tiny drip/leak on an old tub unit. It meant that we might need to replace the piping under the master bath to bring it all up to code before the sale of the house. I needed someone who could work on a very tight time frame and explain to me the details of the inspectors report. This company did and excellent job helping me figure out exactly what I needed and what I didn't. They were patient with my ignorance and took time to walk me through my options. I ended up going with another company in the end - not because this one was unwilling or unable, but after discussions with the buyers and my Realtor we figured out a settlement.

I called on Wednesday 11/2 and spoke to the receptionist. She was very nice and helpful. I explained the urgency of my situation. She gave me a quote over the phone, and said someone could come out the following day between 5 pm and 6 pm. I scheduled an appt for through her and asked to have the tech call me when they were on their way. On Thursday, Chris called about 5:15 and said he was on his way; he arrived at 5:45. He worked on the tub drain for about 15 minutes and he was done. He explained the problem, gave me some ideas to prevent it from happening again, and provided some ongoing maintenance suggestions. I asked if I was the last appt of the day for him, and he said yes. Yet, he didn't try to rush through the problem, and took his time to explain what he was doing. He genuinely seemed to care that the problem was corrected, and that I was satisfied. The appt took less than 15 minutes. I am very pleased with the service I received and though I hope I don't have to call him back, I would do so without giving it a second thought if I had a plumbing problem. Great work Chris!

They came out, turned the water back on, found the leak, replaced the faucet, and took out a filter system that was really old and didn't work anymore.
Description of Work: I have had Barnes Plumbing out to our house so many times. We bought an older house and have had problem after problem, I'm on a first name basis with the plumber...and when I call the shop, they know it's me! I've left keys under the door for them; I trust them that much. They've even walked me through issues on the phone so as to avoid another service call. Today, I heard something running and water was flowing in my basement. They were out within an hour after walking me through how to shut off the water to our house. They really are great, reliable, awesome people and I'm so glad I found them through Angie's List.

I called Barnes based on their Angie's List rating. I asked whether it was at all possible to get same-day service since I had already taken the day off, and they were able to send someone out within a couple of hours! Zach was great - professional and courteous. He explained what the problem was and came up with a solution that fixed the problem without having the drain the whole system (which saved me paying for two hours of work). He worked quickly and everything looks great.

I got into a bathroom project that was slightly over my head and called Barnes to have someone come fix a plumbing problem I caused myself with my toilet flange. Zach came and was very professional. He fixed my issue and I was very happy. Before he left, I showed him my whole project and he advised that I also remove my whirlpool tub to make my tiling work around the tub's deck easier. He removed my tub and I put it in my garage until I finished my tiling a while later. He then came back and put my tub back in. I initially just wanted someone to fix my problem and Zach turned into a HUGE help for my project. I would recommend them to anyone. The bottom line is - they are flexible with scheduling, they go above and beyond when needed, their fees are fair and the work is done right.

Excellent service that exceeded my expectations. Zach (plumber) and Cheryl (receptionist) were both very professional, genuinely nice people who were a pleasure to work with. Zach had the toilet fixed and the shower pipes capped within 20-30 minutes. Knowing that I intended to remove/scrap the shower, Zach offered to take the shower apart and haul away the waste, which is something I wouldn't have expected a plumber to do. I readily agreed and am glad to have done so; Zach had the shower dismantled and hauled out in about 15-20 minutes. I was already impressed, but then he came back and swept up all the dirt / dust that had accumulated underneath the shower. Great attention to detail and very efficient work; the entire service call lasted just under an hour. I will without a doubt be calling Barnes plumbing for any future plumbing needs.

We learned from a home inspection that the floor drain in our basement wasn't draining, and that it needed to be fixed within the week in order to get our house on the market. Barnes Plumbing was extremely responsive and professional, calling me back and giving me a quote within an hour of me calling, and setting up an appointment within the week. The plumber was here promptly and did the job quickly and cleanly. The price was quite reasonable - we feared this would be a large, unexpected cost. We would definitely use Barnes again and will recommend them to friends.

Called to make an appointment (based on other reviews here) when our toilet downstairs started leaking. Barnes got a plumber out here within 48 hours - I had told them it wasn't urgent - and Zack quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem. He gave me $20 off when I told him I found them on Angie's List and he was also nice enough to look at and help me diagnose another problem in the home. I'll definitely call them again!

Great experience. Called for service over the weekend. Received a call back on Monday (as I expected) and service person showed up Monday afternoon. Toilet wasn't flushing properly. He examined it...and used the snake to see if there was a clog in the drain. He believed he felt some blockage deep in the pipe, and thought he was able to break it up. Told me that was as far as he could go, and if we continued to have problems, we'd need to call a drain company. Within a day or two, it seemed like the clog had disappeared and we didn't need to call the drain company. I also asked him for an opinion on a pipe issue we needed fixed. The people who remodeled our house before we bought it covered up the water shut-off for the outside, and we couldn't access it without cutting a hole in the ceiling. Asked him if there was a plumbing solution, and he told me the best thing to do was cut a hole ourselves and cover it with a cheap vent cover. And that worked! I respect that he didn't try to upsell me on a huge plumbing project when a simple solution was possible.

I called Barnes plumbing expecting to have a big job done, involving breaking up our floor and replacing a section of old pipe. The job couldn't have been easier for the plumber, Zack, though, who simply pushed the power auger bit I had broken off in the pipe and whatever other obstruction was in there into the sewer line, where it could wash out to the main line. Since that took him almost no time, I asked if he wouldn't mind looking at one other problem- some pipes that shook violently when the hot water was running in the tub. Again, I was expecting this to be a big repair, involving cutting through sheetrock to get to the pipes, but again it was an easy fix for Zack. He removed the tub faucet and noticed that there was a shutoff valve on the hot water side that was only half open, and he simply opened it up fully so all the hot water could get through. No more pressure problem, and no more shaking pipes. He then quickly replaced and caulked the faucet, and was on his way. Both jobs were done in under an hour, and I was quite impressed! Next time I have to do any plumbing, I think I will take Zack's advice and not try the "destroy it yourself" method, and call Barnes instead. Thanks!

They got right back to me; even called me to see if they could move up the appointment when they had a cancellation. They were a few minutes early on the day of the appointment. The plumber that came over was very friendly and speedy. He had the part in his truck. The whole thing was taken care of in less than 20 minutes (and as a bonus, he helped me try to get a corroded sprayer head off a hose!) Can't really comment on whether or not this was more or less expensive than it should be, because I don't know how much the part costs. But I did feel a little stupid when I realized how easy a fix this was and how much it cost.

We called Barnes Plumbing after noticing a leak from an upstairs toilet. We had stopped the leak by shutting off the water to the toilet, but didn't know the cause. We called letting them know it was urgent, we had a leak. They came out the same day. Zach accessed the pipes and immediately found the leak. He replaced the faulty pipes with no mess. We also had him fix our toilet--it had never been installed correctly so he fixed that as well, it's now perfect. Very professional, prompt, friendly, great and we were very satisfied!
Description of Work: Our neighbor below us said she saw water spots on her ceiling above the bathtub. We called Barnes Plubming based on Angie's List ratings--they came right out. Sure enough there was a leak from the bathtub going into the walls. Our guy, Zach, fixed it right up, replacing the drain pipes. He then also fixed our toilet and installed it properly--it was always wonky and he said it was because a non-plumber installed it. He installed it correctly and I can't believe we waited so long to fix it! The service was excellent, super professional, would highly recommend.
