American Sewer

Went fine. The man who came out was friendly and courtious. And quite efficent. He found the problem within minutes and simply removed the ball, ran some water to ensure it drained and replaced the drain cover. However I had purchased a 'sewer line cleaning' for about $100 and it was actually the 'floor drain' that was the problem. He told me that the two are often confused. The floor drain was a less expensive repair ($10 difference). He did not offer to reimburse me for the $10 or say he would talk with the office manager about this.

Called AMerican Sewer because Rato Rooter told me the line was totally blocked and would need to dig up front yard and replace. Estimate $10,000+. American Sewer was called for second estimate and they came over and had the main line cleared in less than an hour.

I had a flooded basement. The main sewer line had backed up due to tree roots. The plumber came ot and removed the tree roots and then scoped the line to make sure I didn't need to replace the entire line. The work was done quickly and the service was excellent. After the incident I need a report to submit to my homeowners insurance. They were very prompt in getting that to me as well! Excellent job!

--I had a clogged drain in the bath tub and a minor clog in the kitchen sink. Called American Sewer on Oct-6-14/Mon around noon, since it was not urgent, so I was OK to have a drain cleaner to come over the next day and was told his arrival time-window would be between 2:00pm-5:00pm. --On Oct-7/Tue, a technician/drain cleaner from American Sewer called "Rob" called around 3:30pm informing me that he would be at my place around 4:00pm. --Rob was at my door at 4:00pm. I talked to him about the job to be done (bath tub drain & kitchen sink drain) and re-confirmed with him the price agreed and then signed a work order/Authorization paper, so Rob would start working on the job. --Bath tub drain first. Rob finished cleaning it within half an hour. Very efficient and impressive. --Kitchen sink drain next. We thought this would be an easy job, since it was just a minor clog and Rob had just finished un-clogging the more serious bath tub drain within half an hour. But for some reason, the kitchen sink must have been clogged very badly down the drain. Rob had to run his cleaning routine-procedure 2-3 times using two different "sneak" tools. Long process, finally it seemed like working. The water went down the kitchen sink drain thoroughly and smoothly. --My husband and I were just ready to say "Yay.". Suddenly, I thought, may be I should check the pipe in the basement to ensure things were OK, because the kitchen pipe was linked to the laundry pipe. When I got down to the basement, I found that the laundry pipe was clogged. Rob had un-clogged the kitchen sink, but all the "junks" were push down the pipe, now the laundry pipe was clogged. So Rob had to re-work on the kitchen sink drain again with a longer sneak trying to clean the pipe down the line. With no success after couple tries, Rob thought it might be clogging at the Main drain and we agreed it was time to clean the Main drain. --Main drain unclogging was added. Rob finally un-clogged the whole drain system in my house. And he also cleaned up all the mess resulted from the job. Hallelujah! Final thought: my husband and I really appreciate and are impressed with Rob's experience, skillfulness, carefulness, calmness, patient, and customer first friendliness attitude. He had to move many tools in-out my house for the job. Some are heavy equipment. I think he was tired, but he was pleasant, gentle and smiling all the time. No bad mood or complaining. Just excellent professionalism. What a gentleman. Very respectful! A few times, when he sensed that my husband and I were both concerned and worried what was wrong with our house-drain system and could it be fixed? Rob was calm all the times and comforted us indicating that he knew what was going on and ensured us that things would be fixed, and promised that he would not leave us until he clean all the drains and fixed the problems. And he DID finish the job. I wanted to wait for one week (before putting in my comments) to ensure drains are running cleanly and no re-call. And it has been one week now, and the drains have been running cleanly. We are very happy with the drain cleaning service from American Sewer's service, especially Mr. "Rob". I will use this company from now on for any plumbing and drain cleaning problem and have highly recommended to my friends about this company. Thank you very much American Sewer and Rob!

It went just as he had explained to me on the phone. First he cleared the main sewer from the back of the building forward, then he cleared the sewer line from the front to the street. He used a 6 In blade istead of the 4 in blade normally used and cleared out tree roots. He cleaned up the basement and then came into my unit and the one next door to clear out the sink drains. He explained that the lower units trap stuff draining from the upper units and he was right. There was a lot of sludge in my sink drain. He cleaned up as best he could. He did a much more thorough job than the previous company had done less than a year ago.

They called around 8:50 and told me they would be arriving between 10 am and Noon. 10:40 Seth called and said he would be here soon and arrived around 11 am. He began on the bathroom which is what I had a coupon for. After snaking out the drain and completing the toilet check I told him about the Kitchen sink that was also slow draining. He said he could also take care of that for about $89.00. He proceeded to clear out the kitchen drain and had to do it twice it was so clogged! Seth was very professional and informed me of his process in clearing drains and kept me interested in the process of what was happening. He was a great guy and would absolutely call them next time I need any kind of plumbing. A+++

Excellent communication and service! Cleaned out our laundry room floor drain, and then checked out main line out with a camera to inspect as it had not been done in at least 10 years. Needed a cleaning, so had that done as well. Professional service from start to finish!

The company was very easy to deal with in terms of arranging the appt and also when I asked if they could also look at the bathroom sink stopper. The person I emailed with was prompt and friendly. The technician who came out (John) was awesome. Hard worker, good at explaining things, and thoughtful -- also seemed very honest about what work needed to be done and how. I asked about the floor drain, and he said, well, let's see if you even need it cleaned -- he explained how he was testing it, and gave me options for whether it needed to be done right away or could wait -- I figured he was there, so yes, let's fix this slow floor drain, it will only slowly get worse -- I'd rather be pro-active having had bad experiences in other houses I had lived in years ago. He was also willing to add on the cleaning of the floor drain right then (instead of my having to set up another appt). I felt very confident about the quality of his work, and would definitely use this company again.

I waited a while before writing a review so I could observe how the drain behaved over time and if the root cause was resolved. The drain in question was very slow running, specially when I clean it and run the water for a while (without using the stopper). We don't have much debris going in there, and I had eliminated anything stuck by dismantling the u-bend trap and cleaning (which didn't have much anything to cause clogging). Since roof vents could be a problem, I had called the top rated plumber on Angie's list and described the problem, and they said they don't tackle this, and I should call a drain cleaning company. As American sewer had a $89 deal for 1 hr cleaning of one small drain, I called them and again I described the problem - saying it could be a roof vent related issue; the person on the phone said they tackle this all the time, and they had an opening almost right away, and I was able to get them in within an hour or so. JJ the tech cleaned the drain with an auger and said he was finished in a half hour. We ran water for a while and he even stoppered it to fill it and drained and it was running better. Since this was just a half hour job, I asked JJ to look at couple of other items - a possible leak source on my tub faucet and he was good enough to do that, and offered to caulk the faucet spout - bathtub joint. He also tested my sump pump to see if it was working. He was still done way before the 1 hr was up. Now for the results of the drain cleaning: after a few weeks, it seems to have slowly come back to square one, with the same slow running happening; so my suspicion of roof vent problem was not misplaced. It would be nice if the plumbing and drain cleaning companies diagnosed the problem before attempting to fix it. So although the tech was good and they were prompt, my problem was not fixed, and I feel they could have taken time to look at the problem and then given me a solution, especially since 1 hour of work was not needed for the drain cleaning itself.

This was an Angie's List special deal. American Sewer scheduled an appointment right away, came on time and completed the work fast and they were very thorough and did not create a mess. We paid a small fee to purchase a new screw cover to our sewer as the old was corroded and no longer fit well. That was the only additional charge. We would definitely recommend American Sewer and will call on them again.

We noticed water leaking from a pipe in our basement so we had a plumber come out and clean the line. He did end up clearing the pipe and inspecting it with a camera but couldn't seem to get past a certain point and scared us by saying he thought the pipe was collapsed and it was gonna probably cost us around $6k or more to replace the pipe. So we got a second opinion and Jonathan from American Sewer came out and said it was just tree roots and he could get through it and he did! He was great! Very professional and a hard worker. We will definitely definitely have him as our go to plumber.

Arrived almost an hour late from window and then incorrect service provided. Will try to get them back to "deal" service.

I think he had a tough time getting the drain cover off as it had been some time since it was removed. Cleared the drain, but had to be reminded of the toilet tuneup. I didn't expect much on that, so I wasn't disappointed with what I got, which was not much. The drain seems to be working well, though, which hadn't, been the case

The provider came in, immediately diagnosed the size of the job and chose an appropriate size machine to clear the plug. He cleared the plug and then filled the laundry tub with water and showed me that it was draining properly. All very quick and professional. I appreciated seeing the result.

We were having trouble with our floor drain not draining fast enough so we were getting standing water. I found American Sewer on Angie's List. I sent them a message at about 7pm on Sunday. They responded with an email that night and a scheduling phone call the next morning. By early afternoon they were at the house and my drain was cleaned. Unbelievable service.

A different, larger, more famous company that cleans sewer lines came to my home on saturday night and tried to clean out my mainline after it clogged and my basement laundry room flooded. After one hour, they said they had tried a number of blade sizes (6 inch down to 2 inch) but couldn't get more than 20 to 30 out. They advised that my mainline was broken and that it would need repairs costing $4,000 to $10,000.00! They said they would call us on Monday to schedule the repair. We decided to look on Angie's list for a second opinion. We choose American Sewer because of the good reviews and because they only clean the lines: They don't repair broken lines or sell liners or sell $1000 hydroblast services. Rob started with a "kinked" line, which he (and his boss Jonathan the Draincleaner ) had said has good success when other companies say they can't get through/broken pipes . He made it our 100 feet and brought in a bunch of roots. He then worked his way up to a 6 inch blade and went out to 100 ft. Yay! we can use our water again! And we don't have to spend 10k! Rob recommended preventative cleanings (to get in there before the roots get stronger than the pipe) every 8 to 12 months.... Will do! Thanks again!

The serviceman called to say he would be a few minutes late, which we appreciated. When he arrived, he got his tools and surveyed the property to know where the various clean outs were located and explained how he would proceed. We confirmed the work we had requested be done and got his agreement that this work made sense. He was efficient and did several passes to ensure the main line was cleaned.
