I called, gave information and was told that someone would come by in 7 days to give an estimate. Never showed up, no phone call.

Wow. Just tried to get a quote from them, and Clive (?) was an extremely rude and unprofessional person. We had an ash tree taken down by them about 3-4 years ago in Saint Paul for about $350-$400. We need another very similarly sized ash tree taken down this year, and he quoted me $900. I asked why such a large discrepancy, and he got extremely rude and gave me some nonsense about costs being higher. More than double in 3 three years? Hardly. He then insulted me and hung up. MORE than happy to give some other place our business. AVOID like the plague!!

Cleve, the owner, was very supportive during my month of deciding whether to remove my 100 year old elm tree or not. It was a very difficult decision for me. Once I made the decision, he responded the very next day with his crew ready to remove my tree. He and his crew were very hand working and got the job done in one day. My elm had grown so large that the tornado fence post was embedded into the side of my tree. Cleve and his crew were able to remove the entire trunk from the metal post before grinding up the stump completely. I have used this company for three other jobs and have been satisfied with their work and very pleased at the reasonable price of each job. A Tree Service is a great family run business to work with!

Great! The crew of three people came on time and on the date promised. They set up equipment and removed limbs very carefully, dropping them by rope to the ground. They used a claw type boom to remove the large trunk sections, again carefully and gracefully, since there are two garages nearby. This was all done in a small alley, driveway, and over a neighbors fence. We were impressed. The price was very reasonable too. We hired A Tree Service to trim the same tree several years ago and we think that helped to lengthen the life of the tree. The crew was friendly and cleaned up all the debris and hauled it away, they even ground out the stump. They used a blower to clear out all the chips from the driveway and alley, you would never have known that large a tree was cut down that same day. We had some perennials that were just coming up under the tree and thought they might be a loss but they are all growing just fine. We are thankful for the excellent job!

It went really well. I know they were a lot cheaper than anybody I'd had bids from. They were very professional. I had a gazebo that had to be moved and they had enough people, they just picked it up and moved it. The yard looked great when they were done.

It went very well. They came out when they said they would and they did the job, and it was fine. They cleaned up very well. They were okay, they came out in the morning, set up, did the job, and left. They did a good job and we were happy with the price. I didn't find anyone who was doing that so I guess that means they were good. They came out and did the job and did it well, did it on time, and did exactly what they said they would. We have no problems at all. We were quite happy with them. They were actually very good.

CUT DOWN THE WRONG TREE! I hired Cleve from A Tree Service to cut down two mulberry trees in my yard and to do some other tree cutting at two other properties I own. I came home to discover that he had messed up and despite him having written down "2 Mulberries" and me emailing him the exact trees I wanted cut down, he cut down 1 mulberry and my beautiful 10" diameter, 30 ft high ash tree. He came to my house to discuss what should happen next. I spoke with a tree farm that suggested I use a well known formula for determining tree value from Purdue University. It is used for insurance purposes. The value of the tree came in at $2550. I told Cleve that he needed to finish the job, and I would pay him in full, and he would pay me $2550 for the loss of the tree. Instead Cleve countered with ME paying him for a 1/2 finished job and then him giving me a sapling to plant! We turned him into the city of Minneapolis and will probably end up in small claims court. He was rude and threatening. While discussing calmly what had happened, it suddenly occurred to me that he was taping my husband and I! It made us very uncomfortable. He was unapologetic, and kept stating that "everyone makes mistakes, what do you want me to do?" Pay for the tree you cut down, that's what! AVOID AVOID AVOID

Great price compared to other companies we talked to. I was not home when service was completed, but it appears to have gone well since this year during the big storm that blew down hundreds of trees across Minneapolis our trees and all branches were still on the tree. They were also able to help us understand what we need to do to maintain our trees better as well as how long we can expect them to last before needing to be cut. I enjoyed working with them

We worked directly with Cleve and he was extremely professional and quick to respond. I believe I called him on 6/7 and the job was completed on 6/11. Not only does our tree look GREAT but he was also extremely neat and did a thourough job of cleaning up the back yard.

This company was very efficient, responsive, and gave me the best price of several bids I'd had. They removed 2 trees in the backyard; one of which was really large. I simply couldn't afford the rates other companies were asking, so we thought we'd have to put the removal of our very large, high-risk tree on hold. This concerned me as 1/3 of it had already fallen onto a neighbor's house. After about 5 bids from other companies, finally a reasonable bid came in from A-Tree Company. Thank god! Cleve, the estimator and owner, was very nice and professional to work with. He responded to me quickly after my inquiry and came to give me an estimate in a reasonable time. They were also able to schedule me quickly, arriving the next afternoon to get started on the trees. They spent the rest of the day working on that tree and then came back the following afternoon, as they said they would, and completed the job. The crew showed up when they said they would. I had an opportunity to watch some of the work that they did. They used a bucket truck to cut the branches from the tree and then lowered them gently to the ground with ropes, just like you see in the video on their website. (I haven't yet checked the stump grinding. We'll check tomorrow in the daylight and update the post..) If you want a company that is responsive, friendly, professional, and reasonably priced, I would highly recommend that you hire A-Tree Service!

Everything went really well for the initial limb drop; A Tree was on the scene in short order, delivered the low bid, and did the work as promised even though it was an extremely hot day. The crew was friendly and thorough. Based on this experience, we called them again when we had our second limb drop. Cleve, the business owner, came and did another bid for the limb and whole tree removal. I told Cleve I wanted to get additional bids, and that I would call once I had made a decision. However, this is where the problems began. A few days later, I was shocked to find that the dropped limb had been removed by A Tree, even though I had not completed the bidding process with other tree companies, or made an agreement with A Tree to do the work. Turns out the message I had left with the office several days earlier to ask for a bid from A Tree did not get through for the better part of a week, and Cleve thought this initial message was a second call confirming that I wanted the work done. So not only was the message delayed by several days, it was also not relayed accurately. I was unsure what to do, since I never authorized work that had been completed. When I called Cleve to ask what was going on, he explained he thought I had called back to hire him, which I explained I hadn't. In the end, A Tree's bid for the whole tree removal was quite competitive, and Cleve agreed to credit the cost of the mistaken limb removal to the bid, which landed A Tree as the low bid. I felt this compensated for the misunderstanding about the second limb removal, and made the decision to hire them again. Cleve also offered to split the cost of the tree removal into three payments, which I really appreciated, since this work was quite expensive and would not be covered by homeowner's insurance. When the crew came back to cut our tree down, they did a great job cutting the tree. They seemed very knowledgeable about how to go about the job. However, during the job, they dropped a large section of trunk on our sidewalk, cracking it badly, and also backed equipment into the house, damaging a section of house siding. I was home while the work was taking place, and heard the crew dropping the trunk on the sidewalk, and acknowledge this had happened. When I called Cleve to discuss this damage, I was surprised that he seemed to know nothing about it. Though I thought the crew was friendly, I think they were a little dishonest about damage I am sure they knew they caused. For both the sidewalk damage and the siding damage, Cleve wanted to send his own guys over to make repairs, which I thought was a little weird, especially when his guys had already made a bunch of mistakes. I told him I preferred to hire my own people, and he agreed to just credit our bill. Cleve compensated us fairly for the damage his crew caused to the property, but I think I would have preferred to have them be a little more careful in the first place. It has been stressful to have to negotiate how to deal with all the mistakes A Tree made: the miscommunication about removing the second limb that fell, the sidewalk damage, and the damage to the house. The company receptionist has also been rather short with me, and seems to be suspicious of me. My intent in calling to complain has been because many mistakes were made, not to weasel out of payment. Having a tree that needs to be cut down is a drag, but working with A Tree made it feel more like an ordeal. Maybe we have been especially unlucky with A Tree, but it has all left a bad taste in my mouth. A Tree is the kind of small local business I want to like, and this is definitely part of why I hired them. Cleve is very down to earth, and I can tell he tried his best to make everything right. The crew was super friendly and efficient, if not especially careful. They are a legitimate business that delivers competitive bids on tree services. But I feel like I paid a lot in stress in hiring them the second time. If money is not your only consideration in getting tree services, you might consider paying a little more to a different company in exchange for less headache.

So far, not impressed. I called last week on a Friday and left a message after a wind storm had split a tree of mine in half. I am fairly certain that I explained the urgency of the matter in my message. The power company came and took down half of the tree (the half that was hanging directly on the power line), leaving the other half swaying precariously over my house. It's late Tuesday morning and my brother and I have cut down the rest of the tree. I called this company back to see if they could remove the neatly chopped up and stacked tree since I'm fairly certain that it is infested with Emerald Ash Borer. I told the very unenthusiastic woman on the phone that I wasn't sure, but I think that the city web site said that it needed to be chipped and burned and asked if they did that kind of thing. Her response was "we don't have a wood chipper".....and then didn't offer any other information. I then asked if that's what needed to be done. I would think that any tree removal company in Minneapolis would be aware of what the guidelines are for disposal of an Ash tree, I'm not the professional, but it was like I was leading this woman through the conversation. She said she's have to have someone else give me a call back, but said she was updating the message and didn't bother to take my number again. I don't know if they have it or not. The part of this that's particularly irritating to me is that I'm trying to use a neighborhood company. These guys are literally 4 or 5 blocks from my house. Looks like I'll probably be using someone else.

Cleve came out and gave us an estimate on the job and then came out and removed the trees and the brush pile. I came home to a complete cleaned up yard and was very happy! We will be using A Tree again this fall to trim our 150 year old oak tree!

A very large branch (~30ft long) came down from our tree during a huge windstorm, and was caught up in the tree itself. I called A Tree Service at 8am, and the owner came over to give me an estimate at 9am. We needed help getting it down from the tree, but wanted to keep the branch for firewood. Their crew came and took it down while I was out for the day, and cut it into 6ft sections so that we could deal with it more easily. Total cost $30 (would have been $75 if we wanted them to also haul it away). No hassle, no fuss, good value, will definitely call them again for future work!

Cleve came within a few days of giving my friend the estimate. He showed up earlier than he indicated in their initial call. He removed all of the bushes she requested;however there were some roots left (this is the reason for a B in quality). When she called to notify them, Cleve returned immediately to correct the issue (this is why the overall A). Excellent, personable, and reasonable in price. She would definitely recommend them!

I thought one of the trees needed more after they were done and they came back in the next couple of days to take off some more. Everyone I talked, including the person who did the estimate, the pruners and the person on the phone were courteous. I can't remember the exact difference but the cost was significantly less than a second estimate I got from another local company. I was satisfied with the quality of the work and the company and would use them again.

They took 4 hours to do it. They were the cheapest. They did a good job of cleaning up. It took about 3 weeks for them to get it done because of the weather. I didn't like with what they drilled the giant, nothing that he already didn't sound, ever could do that, but maybe that's the standard procedure. The workers were fine and quick. They were working straight without taking any breaks and they were quick.

Good service, but feel I overpaid.
