The exterminator was very friendly and seemed very knowledgeable about his work and the extermination process. He answered all of my questions and was very patient.
Description of Work: Examined the inside and outside of the house to look for entrance sites for mice; plugged any potential sites that the rodents could enter the house. Also, left poison in strategic places to kill any mice that were already in the house.

I've been finding semi-dead wasps in my upstairs. I called Jon based on the responses I saw on Angie's list. He called me back within about 15 minutes and talked to me about the problem. He explained why I was seeing them and gave me some ideas. His explanation was great and he was fairly certain my problem would go away shortly. He explained what happens to the wasps in the winter and why this was going on. He was just great! And, when summer comes around, I'll scope my house out and give him a call. I'd use him for any pest problem I have. Thanks, Jon!

They applied the pest spraying as advertised. I did not have to schedule exterior spraying other than the first. They show up as per their stated schedule and spray the interior, exterior, or both. We had just moved into our house and it had ant problem, both regular ants and some carpenter ants. We have used them for two years and have not seen an ant since the first treatment and seldom have any insects.
Description of Work: They applied three exterior and two interior pest treatments over the course of a year.

Worked great - didn't see any more mice all winter.
Description of Work: We were seeing signs of mice in our basement, so used an Angie's List coupon to have Midwest Pest come out and do an assessment/control. John did a thorough job explaining how the mice were getting into the house and how we could prevent that in future. He closed some gaps in the foundation (with a foam-type substance) and laid some poison stations.

When I contacted Jon to let him know what we were hoping from the treatment, he recommended to hold off for a few months and to infact call after the expiration date of our Big Deal. We did just that and it was as easy as pie.
Description of Work: Successful reduced the number of spiders in our house. Also, went above and beyond by extending the groupon expiration data so that we would see the most benefit from the treatment.

The representative came to my home, did an evaluation of the problem and offered options for control. I live in a single story condo on a watershed pond, so there are a lot of insects... The boxelder bugs quite literally would cover my front door to the point I could not leave it open for ventilation and guests had to enter through my garage. Within 2 weeks of the first treatment, my problem was solved! The additional treatments kept me problem free. I opted to continue services with this company after the coupon visits were complete. They are personable, knowledgeable, responsive and I would (and have) recommend them to anyone else with any sort of an insect problem.

This year was the first year when we had mice infestation in our house. The first time happened in Spring and that's the first time when we contacted Midwest Pest Control. Jon (the owner) came and inspected the house and the garage. He knows where are the vulnerable spots of each house and how they can get in. He also found a hole and proof that the mouse was there. He plugged that hole with some putty. He put poison boxes wherever he thinks that they walk. Then later in the fall, it happened again. We called him (under the 1 year warranty) and he came back. He inspected the house again and he told us that in the garage, behind the shelves, there might be some holes in the house, but he could do anything because it was a big job to remove them. He refilled the poison boxes, and put some foam here and there around the house where he was suspecting something, although he couldn't prove that there was activity there. Later in the fall, we did some remodeling in the garage and we remove those shelves. He was right. We found 3 holes in the wall right behind them. We fixed them and we didn't have any infestation since then. Hopefully this time will last!

They were OK. They looked around the house to see where the mice were entering, and they couldn't find anything. I mentioned that I thought it might be a squirrel and pointed out where I thought they were getting in. They dismissed this idea, but turns out it was correct (we have a squirrel and mice!) I liked the idea that they were trying to stop mice from entering in the first place, but after that was a bust, all they did was throw deadly mice bait around the attic (which is still there untouched.) For $20, I could have gone to Home Depot and done the same thing. And in the end...we still have mice! So, not greatly effective.

I am sorry for your disappointment. Due to the style of your home, we were unable to fully inspect the exterior perimeter of your home. Hence, we were unable to determine how the mice were entering your attic space. Our records show we charged only $95.00 for an inspection and bait placement. It is unfortunate, but sometimes due to the age, style, design and maintenence of a home we simply cannot warranty our services. this is why when we are at your home we explain your options. Typically, if we cannot warranty our services we walk away at no charge. However, if any means to seal entry points, or application of rodenticides are employed, there will be a charge. The provider was already out in my neighborhood, so he was able to squeeze us in immediately. My wife was very pleased to have the nest sprayed since she had been stung by the yellow jackets when walking to the nearby garage. I'm all for battling nests along the gutters on my own, but for underground nests, I had no hesitations calling in the pros. The service took about 20 minutes or so. Have not had any problems with the nest since it was sprayed. 30 day guarantee was included with the service.
Description of Work: Had them spray a nest of under-ground yellow jackets that were becoming a problem. The nest was located behind/under a retaining wall that is built up around a tree. Requested non toxic treatment that wouldn't affect my 150 year old Burr Oak tree.

Excellent. We have mice enter our house a couple of times a year - they come in under the deck and we need to tear the deck out in order to plug up the holes. They helped us pinpoint the entry point for the mice, and now when they come in I always call Midwest Pest to come and help out. They have a few "plastic rocks" filled with poison strategically placed outside around the deck that have small entrances so our cat cannot eat the poisen. They also place poisen in the basement along the top of the wall. They understand houses with pets & cats, and know how to be careful. In addition, they search around and look for droppings or places where the mice store their food, so they can pinpoint where they may be. They are experts about mice - very knowledgable.

Note to self: Think twice before choosing an Angie's List special deal. You might get a one-man operation who is overwhelmed by all of the sudden business.
Description of Work: I had a sense that the guy doing the work was the sole employee of the business. I say this because not 5 minutes of his work onsite would go by that he wasn't answering his cell phone to talk to yet another prospective customer . Basically the service he performed amounted to strolling around and tossing rodent poison stations here and there. He started by shined his flashlight around the perimeter of my garage (while answering the phone) and ended up putting one poison station near the garage door. He then went outside and suggested I cover the dryer vent where it looked like mice had gotten in. (He didn't actually do anything himself). Then we went inside where I showed him places where I'd had problems the previous year. In each, he simply tossed down another poison station. When we got to the attic door he only stepped up on his ladder high enough so that he could toss another poison station up. Would it be asking too much of these guys to have them at least look into the attic? Having pointed out all of the trouble spots I left him to his business, figuring it would take a while. Instead, in about 2-3 minutes he announced that he was done.

A year later? Seriously, we are more than happy to resolve any issues a client may have. We need to be notified so we can help. Our commitment to having happy customers and solving pest issues is not rhetoric, we will always stand behind our guarantees and warranties. It is unclear if we solved your mice issue, apparently we did and it was a communication and professional issue. At times we are very busy. We cannot control Mother Nature when in the fall of the year our mice calls skyrocket. I thank you for your comments and improvement is needed in educating our clients as to what we did for you, why we took those actions, and and to fully explain the results we expect. I will agree, answering the phone while with a client is rude. Our client needs our undivided attention and this will be discussed with our Service Technicians. The great thing about Angie's List reviews is that we learn from our mistakes that will only improve our customer satisfaction. Jon Hagel, General Manager/Owner

Yellow Jackets built a nest under our siding. We were unsuccessful in getting them to evacuate, so we looked up a pest control specialist on Angie's List. After reviewing several options, we called Jon Hagel of Midwest Pest. Jon returned our call within an acceptable period of time, but still apologized for not getting back to us sooner. He explained that he and his crew were extremely busy and it was taking a little longer, then he would like, to return calls. Because of the volume of work he was handling, he said he couldn't promise getting to us until the following Monday. He would come sooner, if possible, but that he could only make a promise about the following Monday. He said if we felt the problem needed immediate attention he would give us the names of good competitors. We told him we would wait until Monday Sept. 24. On Sept. 24 Jon showed up early in the morning and assessed the situation. He explained the life cycle of yellow jackets and the process he would use to exterminate them. Jon was polite, professional, dependable, and efficient. We won't hesitate to use him again or to recommend his services. Thanks Jon. Linda Nelson

Do you remember when you found someone that provided a top notch service and they were the only person you needed in your Rolodex? That is what it is like working with Jon and Midwest Pest. He spent 2 hours with me going in and out of my house, explaining what to worry about and what not to and I learned a lot. After telling me that my efforts to fill in foundation holes resulted in no obvious signs of entry, and no signs of mouse activity yet this year he gave me my bill - $0. He charged me nothing for a large portion of his day, graciously and with a sense of humor. If we do get any "visitors" this year, I'm confident Jon will be fast, on time and handle the problem without issue. He's professional, attentive, funny, and knowledgeable. I'm grateful to have found him because of AngiesList and would recommend him hands down for any pest issues.
Description of Work: Jon looked through my entire house where I had mouse activity in the past (inside) then checked the outside for any potential foundation areas of concern, explaining the entire time house mouse and other pest activity start for different times of the year.

I apologize for any inconvenience. On Tuesday after Labor Day we received over 145 calls. Most of these were relating to Bees, Wasps, and Hornets that homeowners noticed over the long weekend. We were simply unable to respond to many of these. I had spent many hours returning calls, and of course not within my standard policy of 10 -30 minutes. I was not able to return all calls and had directed many of these callers to my collegues of other pest control companies. This was a very "atypical" day and was beyond my control. again, I apologize for any inconvenience.

I attempted to contact Midwest Pest for services related to an insect problem. When I called, no one answered, but I was directed to voice mail. The voice mail message specifically stated that if they did not answer someone would call back sometime between ten and thirty minutes from the time a message is left. After the allotted time passed, I attempted to contact the business once again, but again no one answered. I opted to contact a competitor. It has now been at least 5 hours since I left that message, and still no call back. I wanted to use Midwest Pest, given the high marks they have received on Angie's List, but by making a promise (in the voice mail message) that they could not keep, they drove me away.
