Carpet King

We stopped by the store to see what they could do for us to replace existing carpet runner. We have an older home that has 13 steps with a 180 degree turnaround at the top. Cost for carpet and install? $3,200! Wow, gold plated carpet here! We saw that estimate and pretty much laughed all the way out the store. I had an entire 1,000 sq foot basement and stairs recovered for that price! Won't be shopping here any more!

Actually the work was excellent. I didn't have a problem with it. I paid for them to move a hatch I have that was 2 pieces. They sent one guy and there's no way that one guy can take those pieces apart so I had to help him. I ended up kind of hurting my back. I didn't sue him or anything like that because I figured it would go away. They were really nasty about it when I complained. With the carpeting, the work was really good but not the guys that did it. The bottom of the doors needed to be shaved after they did it, and they put all the doors in the garage and told me they would be back the next day and I gave them $15 like a tip. They never came back and when I called the carpet company, they were again very nasty to me and the guy said I have to pay for that. I haven't had the chance to even tell him that I already paid him $15, and I just hung up on him. He just made me so mad. The work was good but the follow up was bad.

I went to the Carpet King store in Maplewood MN a couple of times. I had a horrible experience with the sales person there, Susan Wentland. She was extremely rude to me. I went there once to check prices for carpet for myself and a second time to look at carpet for my boyfriend's house. We are both selling our houses and need to replace the carpet in the entire house. For mine, I decided to go with Home Depot for a number of reasons (sales people were more friendly and helpful, prices were better, and I just liked the carpet better). Yesterday we went to look at carpet for my boyfriend's house. We were both asking questions. At one point, she raised her palm at me and said "I'm not talking to you because you won't buy carpet from me and you're just looking for cheap stuff because you are selling the house". I stepped away from that conversation and proceeded to look around. Then after my boyfriend found some vinyl that he liked, he asked about checking out a sample and how long he could keep it for. Susan then said he needs to return it the next day and that I didn't return my sample on time. They went to the back of the store to take his information down. I was still towards the front of the store. Then she called my name and yelled across the store "come over here, I want to show you something." Once I do get there, and I don't know why I didn't just walk the other way, she says 'this is cheap, maybe we can get your business too with all that square footage'. Dream on. I am taking my business elsewhere. I did call the manager today and got such a lukewarm response that I know nothing will be done about it. The only good thing that came out of this is that it reinforced my decision to go with Home Depot. I am baffled that I can't find any reviews, good or bad, anywhere for Carpet King, not on Yelp, not on Angie's List, not on BBB.

The floor is beautiful and he did a very good job. However, I did have problems and I don't know how related that is to this. I paid to have them move a hutch in the kitchen and they just sent the installer. The hutch is in two parts and there is no way that he could take that out of there by himself and I had to empty it and ended up helping him and put it in the garage. Then when we went to put it back, I had to lift it straight up on my side and my back went out. Furthermore, the customer service person was a real jerk and he said why should we pay for that and I said well, would you rather pay for my back? All I wanted them to put a rubber strip that separates the floor from the other floor instead of a metal strip and he said that's going to be extra. However, the woman that I worked with from the store was good.
