+ 2 moreAfter meeting twice with architects to understand plans, Contractor's West provided estimates for labor and materials and advised me on selection and scheduling of subcontractors. Broke ground on August 6, 2008; cooked dinner in new kitchen on November 6, 2008. The deck joists and exterior were completed by November '08; the deck flooring/railing and the exterior stucco, trim and painting were completed in May of the following year. There were problems we found when taking down the exterior wall and removing the original floor, but Dan was really resourceful in finding solutions -- and completely dedicated to making it right and providing a quality finished space. If there was ever a mistake made in the work, Dan jumped right onto getting it fixed at no cost to me. His advice was invaluable -- with a wide range of decisions to make about every detail, he was always ready to help think through the choices and related consequences and costs.hree Though it's no fun to live through a kitchen construction project, the result is terrific in every detail.
Description of Work: Above spend inclusive of all labor, materials, cabinetry, countertops, appliances and fixtures. Contractor/builder for kitchen and powder room addition to home. Removed exterior wall, framed and finished new kitchen and powder room addition as well as new deck. Performed all work except work subcontracted to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, stucco and concrete contractors. OUTSTANDING result with unbelievable attention to detail -- milled all woodwork to match existing trim in my 100-year-old home. Was exceptional in working with the interior/exterior architects as well as with all subcontractors and cabinetmakers/installers. Extremely resourceful in solving unexpected problems -- like leveling the old joists to create a level kitchen floor, creating a transition between kitchen and dining room floors, addressing old junction box in the exterior wall that was removed and other things one discovers when remodeling a very old home. Loves period homes and loves tailoring the remodeling to suit the original design. Easy to work with; always presents more than one alternative to solve a problem or build to the architect's plan, then works with you to weigh pros and cons to come to a decision you can feel good about.

+ 3 moreOutstanding! Design was completed by a team of architects, and Dan was totally faithful to the design intent. Worked so well with architects, designers and subcontractors. Any problems that were encountered were quickly and smoothly worked out. Job completed (except for some exterior finishing and minor interior trim pieces) within 90 days. Dan was so accommodating and so professional at all times. With a house this old, there were tons of problems (big and small) that needed to be worked out to complete the job, including figuring out how to integrate some of the design elements created by the architects. He is terrific at finding a couple of alternatives to solving these issues, and working with the homeowner and subcontractors to outline the pros and cons of each alternative and working to a great solution. His love for Arts and Crafts design really shown through in the details, and he has so much integrity that I was able to completely rely on his judgment and advice throughout a long and involved project.
Description of Work: General contractor and builder for 12' by 13' kitchen addition and remodel with crawl space. Remodel included adding a half bath. Also added a deck with pergola roof, custom rail design and custom pillars (patterned on existing pillars on front of the house). Removed exterior wall, dropped ceiling and leveled the sub floor in the house, which was built in 1915. Matched interior and exterior trims and finishes. (Price quoted does not include cabinetry, fixtures, or labor for electrical, plumbing, ventilation or concrete.)

HELPED CORRECT BAD RECOMMENDATIONS BY THE TILE STORE. HANDLED LOTS OF LITTLE ''EXTRAS'' TO CREATE A BATHROOM THAT'S CLOSE TO PERFECT. CLEANED UP EVERY SINGLE DAY HE WORKED.
